Title: Nominations for Member-Elected Board Positions
Post by: JeffT on September 06, 2012, 12:39:30 am
This thread is for tracking, posting, and replying to nominations and seconds for member-elected board positions. This first post will be updated as the status changes. This post will only list candidates who have either accepted or deferred. (A candidate who declines, or has not responded yet even to say "defer", is not listed.) Candidates nominated at the Rant and Rave meeting will be listed in the second post, for historical purposes. People may post in this thread to nominate or second candidates, and candidates may respond to a nomination. For discussion or questions to candidates, please use the designated Q&A threads (https://www.kumoricon.org/forums/index.php?board=52.0) for each position.

The rules for nominations have changed this year: Nominations must be seconded to be valid, and self-nominations and self-seconding are not valid.

Accepting a nomination after being nominated and seconded means you will be listed by name on the ballot, and be given time to speak and Q&A and comment periods, at elections. However, formal eligibility to election by write-in is not restricted to the nomination list as any eligible person may be elected by write-in. The only restriction on eligibility our organization imposes is to be age 18 or over.

The elections will be held at the Annual Meeting of the Membership for Altonimbus Entertainment on Saturday, September 29 (meeting notice and details (https://www.kumoricon.org/forums/index.php?topic=17365.0)). Nominations will be closed at Tuesday, September 25, at 11:59pm. At that time, ballots will be printed containing the candidates who have accepted (not including those who were still in defer status). After the deadline, newly-accepting candidates can still be elected by write-in.

Persons who have been nominated and seconded may change their status (accept, defer, decline) at will, prior to the deadline. (You can re-accept after declining, for example.)

Candidates are listed first by those who have accepted, then alphabetically by last name.

Suggestions for board-elected positions are listed in this thread (https://www.kumoricon.org/forums/index.php?topic=17352.0).

The nominations deadline has now passed. This post now only lists candidates who accepted prior to the deadline. Candidates who were in "defer" status as of the deadline are not included. Candidates who accepted will be on the printed ballots. There will also be a write-in space by which any person can be elected.

...so, can we make nominations here, or will that be done somewhere else?

Yes, you can make nominations here.

Sweet!  In that case...

...I'll have to think about it.  (I'm too tired to think about names at the moment).

As much as I enjoy a competiton, I will have to reverse my decision to run for Programming.

As a reminder, I will add nominees to the list once they have been seconded, and when they either accept or state that they defer.

With a lot of thought and consideration, I have decided to reverse my decision and decline my nomination as Director of Operations

I also want to thank those who nominated me and supported me on this but I believe this is not the right time for me to run.

Last year showed that someone can totally skip all the forum discussions and questions and still win.  Good discussion happens here and the candidates put a lot of work into answers many never see.  Perhaps these year the discussions could be printed out and made available at the meeting?

That's a great idea but it would take way to much time at the meeting. People that care enough should be reading including the ones voting. Though if it were just there so people could just read it then yeah but at that point you could just go online

The meeting has a lot of downtime.  Would those who want to go online and bring laptops have internet?  It was just a suggestion to have a few copies so people could read them if they wanted to.

Although I am humbled at the fact that I was nominated for the position, I feel it is best at the current time for me to decline my nomination for programming director. I feel I would serve the convention better in a lesser role until I have a much more complete view of the tasks that go with programming prior to seriously running for director in the future.

Also, for this position, I'd like to nominate Kristina Anderson.  (I think that's her last name...).

I agree this would be a good idea. Toneing it down to a few printed copies or a computer or two with the information saved would be a good solution so those who don't or can't keep up on the forums can have a chance.

Thank you to both of you for your faith in me, however I am putting all of my support behind T.J. and will hope you do the same at Elections.

So at this time I respectfully decline the Nomination to Chair.

I noticed I was nominated for Operations and Relations at the Rant and Rave (while I was busy helping pack up main events).

You probably all have already figured this out, but to make it official: I respectfully decline both nominations. With such quality candidates in both pools, it would be silly for me to run :)

I would like to decline my nomination for Director of Operations.

Until I see how more of the department works in other capacities I believe there are more suited people for the job.

Although I am honored to be nominated for a directorship, I respectfully decline my nomination for Publicity.  I feel there are other areas in the convention that my specific skill set would be able to serve better, and that there are other people with a much greater breadth of knowledge than myself, in terms of how Publicity works as a department.

Though I am very humbled in the fact that convention goers and staff a like have faith that I can be Operations Director, I feel with running other conventions (Sak and Newcon);I would not be able to put in full amount of energy for the position. Though I do believe that I would make an excellent assistant if there are any takers after elections. Thank you all for this wonderful opportunity
