Hmmm.... you guys have been surprisingly patient this year.... still interested in Cosplay Chess? :)

We are looking for 32 pieces and a couple of chess masters. You do not have to know how to play chess to be a piece (it is much appreciated if you are wanting to be a chess master, at least the basic moves, since they are controlling the game.)
This is an unscripted, just-for-fun game. My preference is that every one gets to participate, so don't be expecting the best game of chess ever... just entertaining ;)
This is Cosplay Chess, so you character cosplay will be the deciding factor in who gets to participate. This is not a first-come, first-serve sign-up, so you don't have to worry about submitting your form right away... it is more important that your cosplay is complete, and preferably well-known characters. This is a separate event from the Cosplay Contest, so you will not be judged on the quality of the cosplay, or whether you made it yourself - you just need to be a recognizable character.
To sign-up to be a chess piece, you need to do the following:
- Read the rules (http://www.kumoricon.org/cosplay-chess-rules)
- Fill out the registration form (http://www.kumoricon.org/files/forms/2012/cosplay_chess_2012_registration.pdf)
- Submit the form and photos of your cosplay to chess@kumoricon.org
You must include photos of you in your cosplay, or of your cosplay itself (I can't reiterate this enough, guys... if you don't send pics, you don't get to play). Images of your character will not suffice. Since this is not first-come, first-serve, you have time to wait until your cosplay is complete... there is no penalty for being one of the last ones to register. You are also allowed to submit more than one cosplay (just submit a separate form for each.)
Also... if your "piece" is more than one person, please submit one form for each person, but indicate on your form that they are one "piece". Due to space constraints on the board, I will limit the number of such pieces that will be accepted, and no more than 3 people to one "piece".
And another note... things got a little crazy last year during the game, and I'm going to crack down on that. More detail later, but just keep in mind this is not a free for all... there are rules, and if can't follow them, you don't get to play ;)

Sign-ups will be open until August 22nd. Players will be notified of their team and position the week before con, and will be required to attend a pre-meeting before the event, which will be on Monday. Please keep in mind.. the timing of the pre-meeting is usually during hotel checkout, so factor that in to your plans.

This sounds and looks like it's going to be the most fun thing at the convention. I hope it is. I will soon be sending in pictures of my Kaito cosplay, but not soon enough. I want to be a chess piece, but am willing to be a substitute chess master; I know how to play chess, I am good at playing chess, I love playing chess, but I'm not the best at improv acting. Or making up witty jokes on the fly. Mostly, I'd just be playing chess and laughing at/with everyone else.

Its usually on day 3 (at least ever since I have gone) since it is a main event the last day and the other two days are packed with really popular things. Otherwise there isn't a whole lot going on the last day other than closing.

I am curious if I'll be heavily penalized if I submit on the 23rd on my second application. The thing is, I am stuck in Alabama till the 22nd(get home at 11pm then two hour drive). I'll be tired blah blah.
I have half my cosplay assembled at my house in Oregon (undershirt, Marshmallow prop,hat, wig, shoes), and the last half I am working on here in Alabama (pants, gloves, and vest). And it's impossible to assemble the whole thing prior to the 23rd.
So I like staff opinion on this matter.
But like I said earlier that'll be my second entry, since I like two entries minimum each year. I don't want to cheat and Resend some pics that I took last year.

I'd say actually email them. That way you'll be able to talk to the head and get an answer from them.
Also, Su Lu, Crona is a guy. It says he is in both manga and anime.

I know you're planning on entering Ice King, and I know Adventure Time is coming out with a video game in October, so maaaaaybe that could be smudged enough to count? I want to enter Finn, too.
But I don't know what you would do for Anti-Cosmo. I'm not sure if they made a Fairly Odd Parents video game with him in it or not.

Yes, as long as you include the info asked for, and copies of your cosplay, that is fine.
I have accepted non-anime entries before, but preference will be given to anime/video gaming entries.

No promises, but go ahead and submit your form for consideration. As long as I get the pics before I make final team choices, you should be okay.

Submit your cosplay :) Well known cosplays make for some interesting battles (people know what to expect from the character), but it's always cool to see a new character once in awhile. We choose based on your cosplay (how well done is it), not how popular/well known your character is.
(And I happen to like Sakura Wars... can't wait to see your cosplay ;))

I'm still sad I wasn't able to have my new costume done in time. :/ I had a lot of things come up this year (including the passing of my mom in February) and financially I wasn't stable until last month, so I threw one of my old cosplays back into the mix. I hope to be playing for my 6th year.

Well I put in my app today, but looking through this thread I haven't seen anyone say they want to be a chess master yet. While I would prefer to be a piece myself, I'll be happy to be a chess master if they are still needed! The cosplay I entered in is Soul Eater Evans, so I'd probably use him as my character for chess master too. I also have Ichigo Kurosaki, Hope Estheim, Ragna the Bloodedge, and Squall Leonhart at the ready too that I could use for chess master if any of those would be better fits for the master plan. Just let me know :D

Heyo fellow chess-piece hopefuls! Here's a little something to think about while you wait for team postings!
This is a chess I made especially for unscripted cosplay chess - *attaches* - now wouldn't it be cool to see your characters picture there instead of just a name? Then print and bring along a doubled version of your cosplay and we'll slide it into the frame~
EDIT: Pic size should fit within 3 1/4" high by 2 1/4" wide (double the width/pic & fold in half)

The entries look good, I think there were only a couple of duplicates. Nice variety, too :) I will crunch the numbers and see what kind of teams we are going to have. Teams should be posted be Weds, so if I asked you for additional info please get it to me as soon as you can.

I've been staring at the Coplay Chess topic index, and my email, for about an two and a half hours now (basically since I woke up)... refreshing the page every ten minutes or less... hoping every time that team assignments will be posted, and that I might get an email informing me that I was chosen.
