Hi everyone, this is Fox your live programming manager for this year. :D
So after much discussion and agreement it has been decided that we will in fact be holding the Kumoricon ball once more! This will be a semi formal event so you will need to be in either a cosplay or a nice outfit. No jeans, no tee shirts, etc. I will be posting a more detailed dress code on here as soon as we have all the details hammered out once more.
But I need some help!
Although the ball will be ultimately hosted by us, I need some friendly, fun loving cosplayers to act as hosts at the ball. Your main concern will be in helping us to encourage other attendees to kick up their heels and enjoy the dance. Also if you know how to properly ballroom style dance and are interested in helping others learn, please drop me a message either here or in pm, that way maybe we can work out possibly holding a panel prior to the dance for those interested in learning.
Thank you so much, and I hope to hear from all of you wonderful attendees that are interested in this soon!
-
The ouran cosplayers had put in a request to 'host' the ball this year. I'll direct themhere.
-
I'd be up for helping out with the dance lessons. I know swing, basic waltz moves and a little west coast. Just let me know!
-
Well preferably ballroom style, so the waltz would be helpful. Let me see if anyone else is willing to bite on the idea. Thanks for showing interest!
-
Would love to join in, but I'd need dance lessons first!
I'll check into that, and if the other Ouran members will join in, it would sure be fun!
-
I'd offer to help, but I'd like to be one of the people just enjoying the ball this year. I do have a suggestion though, that if your hosts are just random cosplayers, and are not from one specific series, or even if they are, to have some sort of identifier as the official "go to to dance"/"official hosts"
Also, will masks be a requirement this time?
-
This is definitely has my attention. I am planning on recycling a cosplay from last year, which includes a floor length evening gown, perfect for a ball! I was upset about the ball's absence last year (I had an EVENING GOWN, come on!) so this is very exiting news!
Oh, and how do I go about volunteering to host?
-
Ooooh this means I can wear my black lace dress and use it as my District 12 Opening Ceremonies dress like I did for the hunger games midnight showing. Mmm flame make up and body paint. This is gonna be awesome.
-
I'm glad, I'm a girly girl who likes having my nerdy Disney Princess moments.
I only know the Waltz box-step, but if someone teaches me I catch on quickly and wouldn't mind teaching others
-
i some time really think That Black butler cosplayers should host the ball o.o. i love ouran and stuff but be kinda cool to do that :p BUT AGIAN YAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY -dance- The ball is a good think to those who can not go into the rave due to medical Resons I am so telling my friends :D ^^
-
I would think either Black butler or Ouran Highschool host club cosplayers should double as host for the ball. But I wouldn't mind being a host and dancing with people. I can learn to dance the different dances and catch on quickly.

Ouran has already hosted a ball once, back in 2010. I think Black Butler would be pretty cool.
Ciel, Sebastian, Alois, Clause; Lau and any dressed up Grim Reapers would be nice~
*Ronald Fandom*
-
if so i have Ciel and Sabatsion and alot more! :D
-
I can do Ciel and Sebastion as well as Claudie :3
-
ok so i have this victorian type custome and it comes with a
rapier sword its just for look it stays on my side its dull and
made from stage steel would that be ok to bring
p.s. %40/60 chance i can teach some pepole how to dance
i havent been to a ball or anything like this in a while so i need to practice first
the waltz i know is Viennese Waltz. hopefully its like riding a bike
-
For heavens...
I am not going to choose a specific type of cosplay or group. I simply need a few cosplayers that are socially friendly enough to encourage people to have a good time. If the people I chose want to coordinate and make it a group, by all means, but the group will not be hosting it quite the same way the Ouran group did.
The dance is not a masquerade, only semi-formal.
-
:O it still sounds fun !!! I m in ! you can soo count me in to help :D
-
I can help some people with waltz and tango. But I'm not like super good. I've done both lead and following with waltz and following with tango.
-
Id love to learn :D
-
This will be fun to do tho and entertaining to have a ball. n.n and elegant ball
-
Hurray~ gives me an excuse to dust off those Prom/Snoball dresses.
-
Sweet deal! I'm looking forward to attending this!
-
I'm interested in being a hostess. I have experience dancing the Waltz, Rumba, Tango and Foxtrot.
I don't currently have a "fancy" or semi formal cosplay yet, but I'm sure before the con I'll have an acceptable cosplay for the event. (:
-
I'll let my friend know about this. She's the kind who might be interested in hosting.
-
OmG. FInally !
Depending on whats going on for me ..
I;ll try and make it !
not sure who i'll wear for it .. I could slap on my jack vessalius cosplay or maybe someone else
-
The KumoriBall has been my best experience out of the many Anime Cons I've been to, and though I can't help out hosting it, I really hope it turns out great this year! I missed it a lot last year, and can't wait to attend again!
-
I would love to host! It sounds like lots of fun~ Although I'm not cosplaying from Ouran or Black Butler this year... And it also depends on the day and the time~ ^^
-
you know kumoricon can do a vitorian type ball o.O that be kinda cool. keep a theam to it. kinda to a steam punk victorian style
-

We are looking for any cosplayers to help out.. there is not a specific theme :) It will be Sunday night, after the Cosplay Contest.

Depending on how much energy I have, what is the age limit (If there is one), if all the stars align, I'd love to be a part!
-
As far as age limit goes, the ball will probably be during curfew.
-

Why restrict the age like that?
-
Ohmygosh that'd be awful. Would it be held after 12? I was looking forward to going. Restricting age would not be a good idea by any means. I know that I would be sorely disappointed, and mildly upset. As would 11 of my other friends who are very much looking forward to the ball this year.
-
yeah i disagree with the age thing.
-
She said during curfew, meaning that minors can go in. (Though I personally would prefer the opposite, but it's not that big of a deal to me, so whatever works...).
-
Oh, thanks for clearing that up! : )
I"m just happy we'll have a ball this year!

Whoops, sorry I got confused like that. Sorry that minors bug you, but I hope everyone has a great time there this year - I'm so happy the KumoriBall is back!
-
Well, I took some ballroom dancing classes a few years ago and remember some of it if that helps. Might be a little peculiar if I tried to impart said knowledge to others whilst crossplaying, but meh..
-
I have a question about admission? Is there like a ticket system or anything?
Just wondering.
-
I would be willing to help out. c:
I can help teach people to dance and encourage others to dance.
I know a couple dances, such as the waltz, the quick step, and the foxtrot.
So I'd love to help out. c:
I do believe that I'll be as Jane Crocker (from Homestuck) in her Prospit Dreamer outfit; fancy version.
-
SO i def' wanna go to this since ive missed them twice.
NOt sure what cosplay i want to wear.
-
It would be before curfew, so all ages.
-
What....no line dancing, pop'n'lock, beak, dubstep, honkey tonk, jitterbug, swing, freak, ummmmmm aomeone help me out here ^_^ just kidding, id love to go! Anyone need a suave dance partner thats not suave at all? I CAN dance tho!
-
Ill totally be your dance partner Seph ^-^ And we can line dance if you want lol I've been line dancing since. I was three lol
-
Lol, sounds like a plan. We can show 'em all our wicked line dancing skills! Mwaaa haaa haa @_@
-
I'm really excited to have the ball back again this year, but I have some concerns about the dress code. It really wasn't enforced at all back in 2010. The staff just waved people through, and I remember seeing people walking in jeans and cat ears, and other clothing directly on the 'What not to wear' list. Will the staff do the same thing this year or will the dress code be more heavily enforced? Because it kind of sucks when people put effort into following the rules while others can get away with not doing so.
Also, I realize this should've been brought up during the rant and rave back then, but I wasn't able to stay late on day 3 and I didn't join the forum until last summer.
-
Being a ball, I think the dress code needs to be strictly enforced. Prom has a freaking dress code, and people follow that. So think of this as prom. Dress up nice and all formal like.
-
I will be having the staff outside the doors more heavily enforcing the dress code this year, yes. I am sorry it was not run that way previously, but this year we will be trying our best to keep it from being a repeat.
-
I agree with the dress code becuse it is a ball after all

Excellent! Thank you for clarifying.

It's not that minors bug me, but there are times that, as an adult, I personally prefer being in situations where there are no minors around. Even though this is a con (therefore making the next thing I'm going to say not really being applicable), to me a ball ought to be for those that are mature regarding their relationships, or not rambuncious hell'yans all over the place. (No offense to the minors out there, I know that not all of you are like that, and that some adults are). Since it's a con, and there are exceptions, the lack of an age limit is understandably fine for me. Besides, I'm not even sure if I'll be at it or not, simply because of the dress code...
Speaking of which, has that been posted, yet? I haven't seen them...
-
The dress code for the KumoriBall is here: Dress Code (https://www.kumoricon.org/kumori-ball-dress-code)

Sweet! Thanks, Jamiche!

I have a tie you can borrow. (Red, black, or piano print?)
-
I'm excited to see that this is happening again! I haven't gone to the Kumori ball in the previous years, but my friends and I are going to go this year. My only question is is it a ticketed event?
I'll be going as the 2012 Kumoricon Mascot to the ball :)

A ball gown is perfectly appropriate for this event, and the cosplay you linked to is fine as well.

No, this will not be a ticketed event. At dances, many people come and go, so we will not be restricting it by ticket. In the event there is a huge turnout for this, you may spend some time waiting outside the room until people leave, but hopefully there aren't any issues for people getting in :)
-
^ cool becuse i got a group cosplay for that one we all wearing simular out fits but one whos in a dress i find it funner 2 girls are crossplaying as guys adn the guy is crossplaying a girl >3
-
Would Lust, from Fullmetal Alchemist, be considered sufficiently formal? It's not a ballgown, but it is eveningwear, and I'd love a chance to break out my foxtrot. :D

That would be perfectly acceptable :)

I keep getting ask by other con goers who are not on the fourms they ask me if it they have to wear mask and i dont know what to say ? so
-

Would this be alright for the Ball ??
( includes white pants and black dress shoes. )

I can probably guess the answer is no but would a water tribe cosplay (the winter coat and pants) be acceptable? specifically the coat worn by the masked waterbenders in this photo. http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb57525/avatar/images/6/60/Northern_Water_Tribe_warriors.png
-
So to answer the last three questions:
Masks are not required, but if you choose to wear one you must be able to see just as clearly as if you were not wearing one. Any cosplay that is obviously a cosplay and not just something like a cat ears and tail accessory is acceptable.
And quite frankly I would love to see a Mephistopheles. xD

Lol ! well you will seeee him at the ball ~~

Are there any times or days known for the ball yet? : )
-
I think I heard somewhere that the plan was to have it on Sunday night.
-
I doubt it'll start really late in the night. They'll probably have it Day 2 around 8pm ;)
-
^ Sounds about right. If they're going to have it open to minors, it would make sense to start it relatively early, rather than later. I think they were planning a second dance afterwards, too, like a rave, or something...
-
Hey guys! Just to let you all know that we have the playlist set up and the dance is good to go! It'll be Sunday Night at 8:30PM in the Main Events (Heritage A/B/C/D in the Hilton). We're looking forward to having you all attend our dance. This is a semi-formal event, and proper attire is required—if you are not properly attired, you will be turned away at the door!
Footwear
Shoes are required, so please choose something you will be able to dance comfortably in. Flip-flops, sandals, and sneakers are not appropriate, unless they are part of your cosplay.
Attire
Non-formal fabrics such as flannel, denim, and mylar shall not be allowed. At least half of your body must be covered in fabric—bare midriffs or bare chests are not allowed. Formal/semi-formal attire from Asian countries is acceptable.
Female attire: Semi-formal attire includes prom dresses, evening gowns, cocktail dresses, and dressy separates. Skirts should be no shorter than knee-length and at least an inch off the floor (for ease of movement).
Male attire: Minimum of a button down shirt, slacks, and a tie are required. Suits and tuxedos are encouraged, and highly welcome.
Cosplay attire: Cosplay must be of a recognizable character or character-type: a generic shinigami or school uniform is acceptable; generic street clothes are not. Cat ears are not considered cosplay.
Large props, wings, and weapons will not be allowed as they will be an impediment on the dance floor, and may be broken or harm others. If any part of your attire restricts your movement, you may be asked to remove it.
Also, there will be classes for the ball room lessons! Yay! Thanks to our talented team of dancers we will be able to put on classes for you all to attend!
Sun 1:30pm - Sun 2:30pm – Panel 3 (Heritage E – Hilton)
Sun 2:30pm - Sun 3:30pm – Panel 3 (Heritage E – Hilton)
Sun 3:30pm - Sun 4:30pm – Panel 3 (Heritage E – Hilton)
So don't be shy! Attend and learn to dance and impress that Man/woman you'll be dancing with!
(Date fix - @random)

I doubt it'll start really late in the night. They'll probably have it Day 2 around 8pm ;)
The ball has always been open to everyone, and been on day two before the rave, and lasts about two hours, and since the rave starts at 10, makes since.

What about men in crossplay? I was thinking about possibly doing a formal Michiru...
-
What kind of music is going to be played? I mean, is it just different kinds than what's played at the rave, or is it ball music? Will there be jazz, boogie, or rock and roll? Or is it just "ball" music (waltz classical etc)?

Crossplay is allowed, you just have to follow the dress code for the gender you are crossplaying.

It's a ball, so it will be geared more toward ballroom dancing: waltz, foxtrot, etc.

YAY!!!

Without saying what exactly is on the playlist, the styles of dance are going to be swing, waltz, 2 step, tango, foxtrot, and a polka for fun.
-
A friend of mine had a question. Her dress is just barely above her knees and she wants to know if that's okay or not since she did look at the dress code and it said the dress needs to be below the knee-level.

If it's just barely above the knees, it should be fine. If she's still concerned, send a pic to kumoriconball@kumoricon.org and we can take a look and let her know. :)

Just to clarify, the Ball is on Sunday, right? All of the event schedules show it on Sunday from 8:30 to 10:00, although artamisalbrya stated that it's on Saturday? I did notice that artamisalbrya also stated that the dance classes are on Sunday, which would only make sense if the dance is on Sunday as well - I'm just making sure so I can be positive I won't miss it! :)
-
It is on Sunday... thank you for pointing it out; I'll fix it now.
-
I may or may not have misprinted in my post. Yes - the ball is on Sunday!
-
I was pretty upset about the person cap. I heared from my friends who got in that it was capped with PLENTY of room left.
What was the deal with that? was it so there was more room to dance?
Can someone answer me when they have the time, please : )

Hey there! I was the one who personally set the cap on the room. The reason why I capped the room when it wasn't quite all the way full was because I wanted to have plenty of room for people to dance. I knew that as the ball grew in size that people would quickly lose room to dance. I didn't want to have people running into each other while they tried to tango or even do the simple box waltz. I know that myself personally, I had a problem trying to dance with the partners I did dance with because of lack of space.
However, I did notice that over time people where cycling through and they where letting smaller groups come in. Next year I will petition to have a larger dance area, however, the chances of that happening aren't very big considering that we had the largest room in the entire hotel. So I apologize that you may or may not have gotten a chance to attend and we'll try better next time to have more room for you all to attend.

HI! Thanks for letting me know!
I was kinda bummed, but not getting in didn't ruin my con. My friends who did get in had a blast so thank you guys for hosting a great dance for those who got to go! : )
-
I was sad that I didn't go but me and my friends danced like idiots happily in the park
It was nice to see that everyone decide to have their own fun
