If you submitted and don't see your name here, you are on the alternate list (also known as the Red Team.) If there is time, we may have a second game.
As a reminder, all players must attend the mandatory pre-meeting at 10:30am Monday morning unless you have made prior arrangements with me. If you are not there by 10:45, you will be replaced on the board. If you have special attacks, they must be present as well.
If you are not on the list, and are hoping to be a part of the Red Team, this is the time for you to be waiting outside the door (pieces will be selected by 11am, if we are to have any). Remember, there are no guarantees there will be a second game.
If your cosplay is not complete, you may be replaced.
I will be emailing notifications out tomorrow.. most likely tomorrow night. If you have any questions, or decide you no longer wish/can participate, please let me know via e-mail or PM, or you can talk to me at con (someone is bound to know where I am).

Alright sounds good. I was like "aww I planed out attack for the wrong one" but that is perfect. I'm supper excited. I am going to finish up my blades and practice a lot with them :3

VOCALOID is a voice simulation system (for those who don't know) and have never been made into an anime. The characters are designed in anime fashion as is normal for Japanese merchandise & advertising. American VOCALOIDs have the same look so they don't stand too far away from the more popular Japanese ones.
However, there have been a few video games created based off of them. The most well known is Project Diva in which a lot of PVs are played. The characters are even sometimes given respective outfits. JBF is one of the songs played and the dress from that PV can be worn. (Here's a proof link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HX7A5da0epg )
Again, I'm not trying to be harsh or mean. I'm just trying to inform. I'm not saying she has to change it or anything. Just informing her that there is a category for them since I know in past years they were confused as to where to put VOCALOIDs because the Video Game had not been widely known.

The anime category is inclusive of manga, anime, TV... basically anything not video game... just easier to say anime :) An no, it's not strictly an anime cosplay.... but it is a well-done cosplay, which is why it was was chosen. It is also one that has not been in Cosplay Chess before... this year, I tried to include cosplays we haven't seen in action before.
But what character am I alting as ?
I did not list the alt characters, mainly because it was really late :-X If people prefer I list those, I can... it will probably later tonite, after I send out the emails.

Super tall? I'm 5'11" without my boots, so I'll be over 6'... the Aerith will be the deciding factor xD My friend's is a mini hat, cause she can't figure out the whole big hat thing

Edit: Also, on the subject of VOCALOID - I'm preeeetty sure I selected Manga for mine (I could have chosen anime ... I'd have to double check my app, but if you say I put anime then I'll believe it), since I'm cosplaying from the Aku no Musume series of videos and that plays out as a story on its' own. VOCALOID does have Hatsune Mix, which is insane and unofficial manga by the character designer for Miku, and the Aku no Musume series has official novels out in Japan, which influenced my decision to select in the anime/manga category for this. To be fair, there really isn't a great way to categorize VOCALOID, since it's kind of one of those things that are all over the place. However, because of this, it has the unique ability to be placed in several different mediums. Which is pretty darn awesome.
Either way, I'm very grateful to be a part of this, and I hope we'll all have a lot of fun. : )

I'm excited to be back this year! Although I think it would have been funny to have the mokona on Wheetly's team considering that are (sort of) Portal devices. I'm excited to be a Knight though!

I'm trying to figure out what I should do for attacks, taunts, special moves, death sequences, and stuff, so I'm looking around here for second opinions.
I have some special attack ideas:
1. Borrow Ada's gun and double wield.
2. Call in a RE buddy and shoot.
3. If I can find and convince a Chris Redfield to do so: Piggyback on him and CHARGE opponent.
I've got one generic taunt, but if I get to taunt Luffy: "So you're made of rubber. Whatcha gonna do? Snap a rubber band at me? ;D"
I'm not sure what to do against Undertaker or Grell, any ideas?

As for myself and Grell (who is part of Jack the Ripper. They're my sister and her roommate >.>), you could make some crack about death. Undertaker and Grell are Shinigami, after all. And Madame Red is a serial killing socialite... You've gotta get something from that xD

Aw Wheatley, you are so sweet admitting that XD. I enjoyed our match very much and will be signing up for Chessmaster again if I decide to go to Kumoricon again next year. (It is looking kind of iffy) or I might just go for day three to participate in chess.

Man upset me that I was the first one killed, I didnt even get to really play I took two steps then was killed T_T, I also had picked out two people to help me do two of my spells and I didn't even get the chance to use them, I felt like I was killed off the bored on purpose, not sure if I want to join again next year it was just lame.

Well, that's the unfortunate circumstance as a pawn and as well just a factor of the whole game. SOMEONE has to die first and I don't think anyone would want it to be them. I can at least assure you I did not kill you on purpose. In fact, nothing in this game was on purpose... Except maybe pelting Demyx with the potato, but that's another story. As well, be lucky you made the board at all. One of my friends applied for a space as Hollow Ichigo with one of the coolest masks I've ever seen and he didn't make the cut. Not to mention we had quite the collection of alternates who didn't get a second game to play in, The best I can encourage is don't lose heart. You never know what piece you'll get or even how much you'll do. Last year, one on my pawns was the decider of the entire match. With things as unscripted as they are, one never knows what will happen.
Anyway, on another note, I just wanted to thank all you awesome pieces for all the work you put into this game along with the chessmasters, the hosts, the tech crew, and Jaki. Without you, our jokes probably wouldn't make sense most of the time. Especially Statler and Waldorf's. You also really helped in making this to be even funner to be chessmaster than last year. After checking my financial means and location as of September 3, 2012, I can say I'll be returning next year and see if I can't return as the White Chessmaster once again. I absolutely love doing this each year, and I'll be happy to take it on once again. :)

Sadly that's just how it ends up being sometimes. I've been in Cosplay Chess 3 years now, and the same thing has happened each year: I'm a pawn, I move once, and I die in my first fight. Last year I even got killed twice by the exact same piece since they ended up being used in both games. Yet every year I still sign up because like Shout said, with unscripted games you never know what will happen. Someone has to die first, and sadly you just happened to get picked. My advice is talk with the other team, especially if you think you're going to not last very long(like if you're a pawn for example). Say that you want to use your special attacks in a fight, and most people will gladly oblige. It will mean that we get more fun by having a larger battle and the audience gets more enjoyment out of the struggle. Plus it'll be a nice change from the standard "run away until I'm cornered" or "take one hit and fall to the floor".
In short, don't give up just because of one bad experience. You never know what next year will be like, and communication between you, the chess masters, and the other pieces of both sides will ensure that your next experience will be more enjoyable.

Second, I know what you mean. I think it should just go without saying that if you're taking someone out who has yet to have a battle, draw it out. This was my first year of cosplay chess so my first battle was rough, but my second one was a great length. And if you see the battle coming, talk to the piece. That's what the girl I battled the second time did (I can't remember her naaaaaaaaaaaaaamed D8 She was great, though!). Maybe if we'd shut up during the meeting we all would have been better informed...

Hello! You know, you might find this interesting... I almost got a job on here at Cosplay Chess. But guess who the foreman went with? Only some strange doctor who looked exactly like him. Nepotism. Stuck me on the bloody White Team. Wait, that's still Cosplay Chess? YES! I'm looking so forward to chessmastering again! I promise I'll be way funnier than last year. I have so much more material to work with as Wheatley. And (against all forms of stupidity) we'll win it! We're White Team!
You're going to be a chessmaster next year, too? MAN. Now I wish I were going to Kumoricon next year. I would totally resurrect my Perceptor costume just so we could have a team of science obsessed British robots. Alas, I don't know that I'll have the money.

I had a few inappropriate jokes I had to hold back... ;D
Also, I don't know if our characters style of comedy works in a situation like this. We have some pre-written jokes (not enough for 2 hours it turns out :-[) but our comedy relies heavily on funny situations or quick, funny retorts. Filling a 1-2 min gap of time while the chess masters decided on there next move( btw, both of you did awesome!) with quick one-liners is difficult and not very appealing after the first 30min. We work best when we say our lines, get the laugh, and the attention shifts. Also, we were kinda tired and off this weekend... Including at the Sightly Anime Dating Game, which was also awesome.
But it was a blast and thank you for wanting us and allowing us to perform our "shtick" for everyone. If you want us to come back next year (including just at the convention) we will be happy to! It's as fun for us as it is for you! Minus those lights... We were baked crispy... Plus, we are working on a twist for the costume for Sakuracon. :-X

@ Blizzara- First, might I just say you had a fantastic costume? It was quite fabulous :)
Second, I know what you mean. I think it should just go without saying that if you're taking someone out who has yet to have a battle, draw it out. This was my first year of cosplay chess so my first battle was rough, but my second one was a great length. And if you see the battle coming, talk to the piece. That's what the girl I battled the second time did (I can't remember her naaaaaaaaaaaaaamed D8 She was great, though!). Maybe if we'd shut up during the meeting we all would have been better informed...

Honestly, this year Cosplay Chess was kind of a mess. Alternates got way too jumpy and jumped in when they shouldn't, no one really listened, and the battles were just kind of haphazard. It seems like people are trying to turn what should be a fun game into unorganized dribble that anyone in a costume can join in on. Sadly if this keeps up Cosplay Chess might become a thing of the past...

Scared??? I found it hilarious it was awesome to see white mokona with all those weapons. She just kept getting more and more excited with all those weapons.

It was hilarious...last year. This year it went waaaaay too far. It'd be one thing if it was only the other pieces, giving her their weapons once they were taken out or handing her a weapon when she got into a fight. When audience members get up, walk into the middle of the stage(some of which could've damaged the chess board by wearing improper foot wear, but that's beside the point), and interrupt the show just so they can feel special is going too far. At one point it became a safety hazard with Inuyasha's sword! Like I said, if you are a teammate and want to help out then fine, but alternates and audience members who shouldn't even be participating in the game unless summoned should not have anything to do with it.
In short, it's acceptable to a point and this year went to that point, spit in its face, and kept on running.

On the weapons thing: It was okay when the Mokona's were getting weapons from our team. Roberta had a suitcase full of them; why not use them? It made sense. Our team had enough weapons for both sides as it was. I ended up giving my weapon to Grell when Jack the Ripper was getting taken out because you can't fight Terra with a pair of safety scissors (Though Madame Red ended up with it). As soon as people came up and gave their weapons to Mokona, it got old fast. Plus, it was an interruption.
Next year, something should be said right before, directed towards everyone: If you are not the pieces involved in the battle, you are not allowed on the board without their permission. This includes alternates. If you get on the board without permission, you will be removed from the room and not allowed to return.That should keep people off.

The statement/questions that made sense were things like you, luvan, who said your weapon was fragile, or like the scarfs being used as magic. Those are important things. People should just know to stay away from wigs and costumes. It is, after all, a con

Hehe, it's what I do lol. Seriously though, safety is the top concern, not how many people we can use in every single match or how awesome of a weapon we can get a Mokona to wield. People seem to take safety as a second to having fun, but in reality they need to be hand in hand.

You'd actually be surprised how quickly people can forget some of that stuff, but at the same time we didn't need to spend that much time on it. A quick reminder is good, a lecture on it is not. The big thing though is making sure these get ENFORCED, not simply mentioned then forgotten.
I actually ended up making a thread on what went wrong and what we can fix if any of you want to check it out.

Also, the thing about people running on the board has another issue: The audience can't see anything. It makes it hard on those nearer to the back with only the camera to see. I even had issues and I was in the front row.

The camera was at an odd angle. I was watching it at one point (I swear I'm borderline add) and all I saw was a pile of fangirls on Japan. I mean, they saw him kill himself, but probably got confused otherwise.

The little video thing? Yeah... though doing that wouldn't be that bad if they had one on the masters and one on the pieces, since then they could have the masters big during a move with a little one of the pieces, and then the pieces big during a fight with the masters as a small. Then it'd feel like sports...

Yeah, I absolutely love a good chess game, so it was really hard for me to back off at some points and completely re-write my natural programming for Chess while paying attention to what was happening and getting to move all the pieces while leaving nothing in reserve for defense. I want to be a Chess Master again next year if possible because I really did enjoy it. I hope I did well and you guys want me back.

-The person who fought my friend (who was Ragna) stole her sword and hit my friend with it, injuring her and breaking the sword in half. I was a very furious Death the Kid.
-The chess board was really hard to see.
-There wasn't really a pre-meeting...it's was soooo disorganized. Chess people basically got pieces last-minute for the most part, and rules weren't discussed.

You did do well, especially since you were new to being a chess master and like you said having to re-write your brain. If you want to come back I'm sure most people would love to have you back. Oh wow, that is...just bad. I can feel your friend's pain, since in 2009 I got kneed in the stomach and nether regions(still don't know if it was on accident or on purpose) during a game of chess and couldn't really walk right for a while afterwards. If a costume or a prop ends up being damaged during one of our games though, you can be sure I'll do what I can to make sure the person who caused the damage at least makes it up to the other person somehow be it through paying for damages or helping to repair/remake whatever got damaged.

The cameras/screens were a new thing for us this year, so it was a bit of experimentation for us. We are hoping to work out the kinks so it will be better next year... it can be hard to see the action if you are not close to the board, and we want everyone to be able to enjoy the event.
Yes, rules will need to be announce before the start of the game... the weapons for Mokona were cute, but excessive. And the dance party on the mats at the end made for a very unhappy Programming Director >:(
The question/answer during the pre-meet is a time for people to discuss concerns regarding costumes/props/etc, and while you may think everyone should be aware, it can be forgotten in the heat of the moment (I believe the Black Mokona had an issue with her jewel piece, even after asking people to be aware of the issue.)
And I'm going to have to agree.. it felt a lot more unorganized this year. Maybe it was because it was Monday, or because everyone was excited... but having to repeatedly ask people to quiet down and pay attention so we could get through it was a tad frustrating :(
There were a few hiccups, and we will hopefully fix those next year. All in all, I think you all did a fantastic job, and it was a good game (even it was long :P) The chessmasters did as I asked, and went against their natural inclination to play a game where everyone participated, which is all I wanted. Thanks guys, for taking the time to participate, and for all your great cosplays... without all of you, we wouldn't have had a game at all.

I noticed the biggest difference from the last years to this year, was the audience...
This year it was a lot bigger, and especially with the cameras, it probably made people feel special and so wanted to show off, or get their chance in the spot light.

I still suggest an addition panel/meet up for those in chess and Alts. And rules stated for the audience prior to the actual start of the game.

Yeah, this year the audience decided that apparently the game just isn't going to be good unless they get involved themselves. We need to go over rules with the audience beforehand to make sure this year stays an exception rather than the norm. Maybe a Yojimbo or two to help make sure people who aren't supposed to be on the board stay off of it too.
@Jamiche I apologize for participating in the dance party. At first I imagined it was supposed to be just the winning team celebrating, but obviously that took a major turn away from that. I at least made sure I didn't have anything that would damage the board, but still what we did was wrong.

I agree with having the chess masters say the rules to the audience. I already have ideas for what I could say if I get chosen, since I'll most likely enter Soul or Ventus as a chess master next year.
Another thought I had would be have an entertainment announcer. I just pictured in my head having someone like the narrator from DBZ announcing the rules and adding in epic commentary to the end of each fight or right before each fight starts.

i agree with having the chess masters state the rules before the actual game, and the yojimbos guarding the board, cuz i don't want that to happen again with the crazy crowd. made me very very scared throughout the whole game. i kept hugging my keyblade close to me cuz i didn't know when they would come out!

Yup. In many regards, he was like a sports announcer and not... Well, Statler and Waldorf. I believe he even tossed out some playful warnings to people who were pushing the rules which was helpful. If we could get the humor and continual interest of this year, and the organization of last year, I think we'd be back to a pretty good chess game.

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed that game. My one regret was that the miniskirt was too small for Roy. And that by the end of the match I was braindead and had to face a 2 person team for the 2nd game.
And I agree, having a story behind the match helps motivate both the players and keeps the audience's interest.

Maybe it's because I've been watching too much Soul Eater lately, but my first thought for a serious/comedy duo was Black Star and Tsubaki. There are a ton of different pairs like that in anime and video games though, so we should be able to find something fairly easily.

People could submit pairs. They don't necessarily have to be the funniest pair, but if they had banter, it could work. They'd have to submit some examples, though.

That would be excellent.
I think that Ganondorf would do a good job knowing the names of the characters and interesting statistic while Bowser would make funny observations and non sequiters.
