Title: "So you want to be a Host?" 2012

Want to learn the ways of being the perfect Host? Then join the Hosts of Ouran as they teach you the basics (with special surprises ;)).

This is an idea that I played with and others wanted to do it, so we're gonna try!

Since we can't have a tea party, we decided that a regular panel would still be fun ^^

Basically, we want to have it like a class where the hosts will give pointers and demos on how to be a host. There will also be Tamaki torturings and other surprises throughout the panel.

This is just for fun and laughs! And would love feed back on the idea, ideas for "lessons" and anything else ^^

But of course, how can we have this without any hosts?! So, fill this form out to be a host for the panel~

Something we need to think about is what kinda theme we wanna do instead of wearing the uniforms???

I think we need to come up with our own theme so we don't have to worry about trying to copy an outfit they already did.

Right.  XD  Well...  If we want to be as Host Club as possible, it'd be something elaborate and wild and such...  Over the top but still simple enough so we don't have to spend tons of money.

Some ideas~
Pirate, Steampunk, punk/visual kei...

Another thing that would be cool is to do something with rain and umbrellas and such, so it's like Kumoricon themed.

Punk/visual kei would be fuuuun.  I have tons of outfits for them.  I have a couple cute dresses I could wear for Haruhi too.  I wasn't sure how to use them.  That'd be a cool way to do it.

I'm working on making my own clothing as well, so I could use those.

Some other ideas~
7 sins, Themed "types (little devil type, Prince type, etc), Angel/Devil, original Wonderland...

The types could be fun too.  But some would be difficult to portray.

Yeah, I agree.

Another idea would be their colors. That would give people more freedom with style of clothing.

I think the biggest things is looking like the character and staying in character.

Everything I have is pink but I can probably buy some red before then.

Well yeah we'll be in character.  Any time I cosplay I'm in character.  I hate when people aren't.  Drives me crazy.  I even stay in character sometimes without meaning to.

ok, i can do hunny as a drag pirate (it would hilarious) but i think we should the little angels/little devils idea. i dont really have anything as visual kei... sometimes i get lucky and find something at ross though. and staying in character with hunny should be fine. wait, kori! we could do the twins! wait, kristi are you and taikei being the twins for this?

Yeah, they got the twins.  That's fine by me though.  I've never tried a character like Haruhi though so we'll see.  I'll just practice lots...or switch with Emily but she's SO tall.  And she does flamboyant so well...

I was hoping I could be deh Haruhi since I've done it before but..

Teddy, that's fine. You could talk with Kori about it. I might feel more comfortable having you be her since you have been Haruhi before. But we'll see.

Everyone, we should start talking about dates that we can all meet up. At the meet we can talk about themes and even do mini auditions for the characters. And even get comfortable acting with each other.

The weeks between the stars are more or less maybes, except the first weekend.
The first weekend depends on if I get a ride and have a place to stay, because the YCAP bus doesn't run on weekends from MAC to HILLSBORO.

EVERYTHING depends on if I get a job and/or have money for the busses-
considering I dont have a place to stay.

the bus from Hillsboro to Mac is only a dollar each way, so really, it doesn't matter.
Normally I spend a couple days in portland when I come like this.

So Emily and I can go to the meet-up.  We sort of wish it was a little earlier because we want to head home for spring break as soon as possible but no big.  We did a mini shoot earlier today.  I think you'll be pleased with her Tamaki-ness.  I was fangirling EVERYWHERE.

Kori, I feel the need to have all the hosts have accounts here so I can reach them if needed and so we can all share ideas and such, so if Emily could please get an account, that'd be wonderful.


Everyone, we really need to start talking about what we want to do in this.

Savanah and I already have an idea of how to start it: her and I will open saying "Welcome to 'So you want to be a Hoe'" and Tamaki will jump adding "st" to make the last word 'Host'.

But we need more ideas about things we will talk about and teach and such!!!

Yay!! i get to be Kyoaya!! and i am hoping to be able to go up to Portland some time this summer. i know i will be in the area the 15th-17th of April, but i will mostly be there on the 16th since i arrive on the 15th and leave on the 17th >< plus i will be at a weekend retreat >< so i don't know if i would be allowed to escape for a couple hours. even though they have let me do it before.

I figure that this way, even if we don't meet up for a while we can at least begin to memorize our lines. Wigs will probably have to be seen in person if we think they need minor fixing but outfits should be easy to see in photos.

We can even kind of rehearse online by typing out our lines to eachother on chat without looking at the script if we want. It's not a replacement for a rehersal but it's adequite practice, yes?

does it really matter if the uniforms all dont match? I mean, i kinda found my jacket at goodwill and some people bought theirs online. If you want, I can have kristi take a look at my hunny wig at some point before con (just not the next couple weeks. anything after april 17th is fine). I see no reason why we cant just make a page on fb and just communicate that way.

And it wouldn't matter if the uniforms were fairly close to eachother, but I have a feeling that that wont be the case. That can be something do is take a picture in our uniform with different lighting so we can get a feel for what they'll look like.

Though, we could probably just not wear the blazers, that way we wouldn't have to worry. The worse is that our ties wouldn't match (unless I make them all >>).

well, if you make them all, i can help out with at least putting the stripe on or something. im basically free labor. if everyone pitches in and gives enough money to at least pay for the ties, that would help. I bought mine at ross for like $10.

I actually painted the stripe on mine. It looks more apart of the tie that way.

And yeah, I'd ask everyone to get their own black tie. Either giving me money to buy them or get one of their own.

As for lines.  I don't think we should have line-lines.  Maybe just a rough outline of what we want to do.  Other wise it goes from being improve and fun to being more a chore to do a performance.  I know for me at least, when I try to memorize lines, I over think things and just mess the whole thing up.

Well, the thing is that all of the improv host clubs I've seen have been sloppy D: I figure a little improv is okay..but that would have to be between the lines of the script. We want to look professional right? Would it look great if all of were standing around stuck on what to say? I think we can have fun with the script, since we're all contributing...but I paid to go to a host club, and the firt half of it was just them running around and talking to eachother about what the hell to do.

 This is a 'performance' kind of panel anyway. It's supposed to be 'teaching' people how to be a host instead of just doing an actual host club panel, so I think at least moderate to maximum scripting is neccessary to get things to move along smoothly. You might not have to say the lines word for word..but something along the general lines would be great.

It might be an added effort to write and learn a script, but the performance would be much better for it.

That's kind of what I was saying.  We don't want it to be just a 'show up and go' kind of host panel.  But I don't want us to get so wrapped up in lines it becomes not as fun.  Especially for the funny lines and such.  Say a funny lines so many times and it becomes less funny ya know?  Plus the more improv it is (in my opinion) the more fun it can be.  Instead of us sitting there being all 'oh yeah and in five more minutes this person will say this line and I'll have to react like this...' it's more a 'they're suppose to be saying something like this and we're suppose to react like this...' 

It's hard for me to really explain it.  I just don't think it would be as fun for anyone if we're so strict on things.

I agree with Kori about the not strict lines. Having an outline of stuff we should bring up, and then the rest improv would allow more freedom and make everything feel more natural than having to memorize every line and reaction.

Pretty much what all of you are saying. We'll plan out how it will go and maybe figure out some lines to start topics and reactions and such.
The biggest problem with improve is you might get too many people trying to talk at once.

It doesn't have to be 100% improve.  I just think it's tough to expect people to know all their lines and what not.  We're not all amazing professional actors.  If someone misses a line or changes it completely, the others might end up lost and confused and then we'll be just sitting there looking like idiots while we try to figure out what line we're on, ya know?

But I think if you're in character enough, you shouldn't have to like...constantly be trying to entertain them.  So long as your in character the whole time, I don't think it'll matter what we're doing.  Script or not.

I wish we could read minds...

I'm not saying not have a script and follow it.  I just don't think we should be so wrapped up in them that we lose the point of having fun and such.  I went to this panel at Kcon two years ago that was the ultimate Naruto fan or something.  And it was a TON of fun and none of it was rehearsed or scripted or anything.  They were just comfortable enough with the characters and situation that everyone had fun.

Not saying that we'll have a full script that we will follow word for word.

We will create a plan on the topics we want to cover and how long we want to stay on each topic, and under each topic we'll have some lines that people can say or work off of if there is an awkward silence.

And I say we need to script the opening, but that's it.

It sounds like everyone is all thinking of the same thing. just a basic outline with a few key points for the whole panel. specific subjects, which host leads which subject. that kind of thing sounds like it would be best. and of course just cause one host is leading a topic doesn't mean the rest are sitting in the back looking bored. it's just so we the actors know what the subjects are we are talking about in the panel and teaching the people who want to be a host. even improv professionals always have a outline to fall back on in case they get stuck. it will give the panel a more natural flow and we have a safety net. Just an idea.

black moakana is almost done for you all just need the hoddie done anyways. I have a amp and mic if we need it i just need to know incase. I thought it would be a good idea incase we haev some load fan girls and what not. just tell me before hand if we are using it. so i can mark my stuff and what not

We just didn't have the time, and the forms were due at the beginning of this month. We just felt like we weren't ready and wouldn't be.
