If we turned a panel room into an 18+ art show and sale for a few hours in the evening, how many artists would submit for it? Do you think out attendees would like to browse an area where adult stuff can actually be displayed?
This is an idea currently being floated. If you are an artist and would like would like to do something with this format, please let me know :)
-
I know people would be interested in it, especially if there's more than JUST yaoi.
I can talk to Cassie, the girl who ran the Art Show the past couple of years. There's a couple of other people that I know that might be interested in submitting art for this...
-
I would submit art for this. (Yaoi and Yuri)
-
This is a great idea, and Scrum's art is perfect for it. I don't know if Kasa and Rio are on the forums, so I will try to ask them. We had a lot of folks at our art panels and our adult art contest in the CS, so there will likely also be a lot of interest in this idea.
-
Oh yeah!! We did have several REALLY GOOD contestants in the adult art contest. Did we keep any of their contact info, Rem?
(PS--wait. Kasa and Rio are not the same person??! Are they sisters?? My mind is blown.)

If someone made a request that wasn't yaoi OR yuri, would you be up for it?

Am I the one who ended up with the art, or is Kasa?
Heheh, is that a joke because of when they crossplayed Fred & George Weasley in an HP fic for Adult Bedtime Stories one year?
Or did you really not know? How amusing. They used to be inseparable, and they've both been my Art Coordinators at various CS's in the U.S. & Canada, but, yep, they're in separate bodies :)

depends on the request :3

Ho shi--no, I really did not know!! I spent this entire past con thinking Kasa was Rio. And of course wondering why she was acting so weird! No wonder! (Where did Rio go? Not to offend Kasa, I just really like Rio)
Oh, and as for the art, now that I think about it I believe that all of the adult contest entries were picked up. BUT I think still have the winner list somewhere. I will see if I can find it :)

Rio Armare = Kayla Mayer
Kasa = Aislinn Smith
Kayla has had a table in the Artists' Alley, I believe.
I'm hoping she someday publishes her amazing manga.
http://rio-armare.deviantart.com/ There's her DA.
Kayla co-ran the Creation Station at Otafest in Calgary, Alberta, Canada this year!

Ranma Saotome w/ Akane Tendo - Ranma 1/2
Yusaku Godai w/ Kyoko Otonashi - Maison Ikkoku
Zelgadis Graywords w/ Lina Inverse - The Slayers
Yoshiki Yaegashi w/ Kome Sawaguchi - Blue Seed

Wow really??! Awesome!
Yeah, now that I think about it, I can tell them apart. I feel really bad! XD Maybe I'll see Kayla in AA next year and we'll have a laugh about it.
Ranma Saotome w/ Akane Tendo - Ranma 1/2
See, now, I was totally going to say "YEAH Ranma x Akane!!" and then realized that I was imagining Ranma in his girl form. ^^; So, yeah, I don't think I can do hets. Sorry ^^;
Although I must say, I do appreciate your taste in the classics :D

Thank you.
Depending on WHAT Akane & female-type Ranma are doing, I still might be interested...

Heya Guys,
Could you take specifics of art requests to PMs? I can live without knowing exactly what sort of adult art people would want to commission ;) Thanks.

Don't get your knickers in a twist. We've stayed PG. :P

Cool. If you have a # for her, can you please tell her about this thread for me? Thanks.
-
Sure; not a problem, Ellen.

@ Aaron: Thanks, hon.
@ Pots: Hi! I just noticed your post. While I am sure your art is lovely, and while I personally believe that freedom of expression for art that one creates solely for oneself should know no age bounds, if your art would fit the topic of this thread, then if the age listed in your profile is accurate, your post raises a valuable question for our dear execs.
To enter the room to purchase adult art, one would have to be 18.
Does one have to also already be 18 to provide the art?
I would consider this to be a question with potential legal ramifications.
Options would include:
(a) Execs declare that art for the Adult Art Show & Sale panel can be accepted only by those 18 +, with artists required to include a copy of their ID for proof at the time of submission.
(Of note: If we go this route, Execs should clarify whether the age requirement refers to age at the time the art was created, age at the time the art was first publicly posted, e.g., on DA, or age at the time the panel is held during the convention.)
(b) Execs create a permission slip that could be signed by a parent or other legal guardian explicitly (no pun intended) expressing that (1) they know the content of their minor's art, and (2) they permit that it be shown and potentially sold at this panel.
It might shape the dialogue to know whether the intended range of art would be limited to what would pass in an R-rated movie or allowed to include what would be limited to an NC-17 movie.
-
I will be 18 by the next K-con :D
-

Yay! Hope you have a fun con-year.
-
Yes, all people viewing and submitting must be 18+.
I will want at least 10 artists wanting to submit to go ahead with this.
Also, we will not be doing sales of anything illegal, so all government rules about character ages must be followed.
I'll have all this better written up later on, for now I am just seeing if there is enough interest from artists.
-
Great, thanks.
-

I can ask around some of the clubs at Clark College. I know that there's a few who draw this kind of stuff, even stuff with Star Scream. ??? I can show them this link at school next week.
Also, we will not be doing sales of anything illegal, so all government rules about character ages must be followed.
Oh yeah, huh? Well, I guess that would eliminate my first & third requests, eh?
Oh, I just thought of something...
Would something bloody and gory count for this show?
-
Also, we will not be doing sales of anything illegal, so all government rules about character ages must be followed.
(For reference: I'm only speaking personally, not speaking either as moderator or on behalf of Kumori in any fashion.)
In case not everyone has heard, the PROTECT Act specifies that child pornography includes fictional representations, i.e. drawings of characters that are under 18. The fan community tends to believe this only means "characters under 18 by canon". Legal opinions vary.
In some jurisdictions, it has been interpreted as "drawings of characters that look under 18 to an ambitious prosecutor" - which is pretty close to any H content in anime/manga, due to the fact that pubic hair is rarely drawn. However, I would think/hope we're probably safe from that in OR/WA, as long as you're not drawing an immortalized prepubescent like Evangeline from Negima.
YMMV on whether this law created the first official "thought crime", but that's another rant entirely.
-

We seem to be in the dark ages when it comes to nudity. However, I'm interested in knowing more about the adults in anime that this art has deemed as needing to depict "adult ages" in. It is quite odd to hear its necessary for drawn characters needing to be 18+ when every where I stumble upon "adult" anime I see is high schoolers, with the rare adult thrown in.
-
Does all art require nudity? :O
-
I don't think it should, but people tend to think that as soon as they hear "adult." Things can be of a mature rating for other things, too, such as intense violence (BLOOD! GORE! PARTY!!!). I guess this would depend on the artists in question, but that could be absolutely epic depending on what happens and whom is depicted.
-
I guess panty shots are not adult enough....
unless I chop her arm off ...
-
Depends. Lots of manga-ka specialize in panty shots that are more revealing than outright nudity.
Not to mention that the situation itself can make something sexual enough to be adult, whether there's revealed nudity or not.

uhhh, how so? What kind of situation?
-
I don't know if this would meet others' definitions, but I would think that art showing something intensely erotic is adult, whether it showed nudity or not. Just as a f'rinstance, two people tangled up in the sheets with passionate expressions, even if the sheets covered up exactly what they were doing.
-
OH so anything that looks seemingly erotic?
-
It would be really good to check with Rathany (the original poster) to see how she feels about it, but that's what I would think. At least in my opinion, people's "naughty bits" aren't nearly as adult as what they might be doing with them.
-
OK, I was just thinking that they put in anything that is too racey for the regular art show.
-
That would pretty much be my impression as well.
-
I know that myself & the 3 other people in my room would want to check it out...wouldn't stay interested for too long if it's all Yaoi but we would check it out none-the-less.
-
I would definitely check it out. Yaoi and yuri don't break me. The expressed emotions of the artist on paper are what draws me to them more than anything. <3
I drop an insane amount of money at the artist alley for this reason alone but erotic art? Weee! :D

Agreed.

Ok sooo my art style is super cutesy ... will that be a problem? I heard something about age depiction... so I was wondering if my art would be appropriate.

I'm a huge fan of adult art that has hints of cute to it. The walls of my room would surprise you. :/
-
I just noticed that one of the posts said this: "drawings of characters that look under 18 to an ambitious prosecutor"
I just don't want to be violating any rules with my extremely cutesy art style >:
-
I think it'd depend on HOW the cute is done. I've seen some really cute stuff that clearly had adult characters.
-
Sample of my cutesy art style ;| Is this adult looking?

-
It's cute and simple like some of the concept sketches on my wall. Not what I call adult. :/
-
Yeah, her face looks more minor than an adult. I'd recommend having her eyes a little bit smaller, and maybe have the hair up. Perhaps have her face a little less round, too.
-
>: but thats my style. I guess I just won't join. I don't want any complications.
-
Nice drawing pots, but I wouldn't call that adult enough. It could be in the regular art show.
-
^ Agreed.
-
Obviously, it is just a sample of what my art looks like. I wouldn't dare post anything racy in the forums.
-
It could come off as ether now that i put my dirty mind's side on your style rather then what you posted. Its hard to say. I would just submit them and at worst someone asks you to take them down, people will enjoy them I'm sure.
-
Personally, I love your art style & wouldn't be offended in any way. I agree with camname21...submit them & see where it goes. My G/F & I both would be interested in seeing them!
-
You could also PM or e-mail us a link to some of your racier stuff. My fiancee is intrigued, as well.
-

WTF someone actually uses SAI to draw their art...O_O
It looks good. I'm trying to picture the basic outline but it looks good. You really stick to certain character creations then run with them don't you?
All of my early art was random and oddly proportioned with bright annoying pokemon colors. To my knowledge it still is and that's why I don't draw anymore. I just can't break my own weird habit. :/
-
Ive had the same style for about 2 years now. I really like it but I lost most of my ability to draw manly men. >::: I LOVE SAI!!! THE COLORS AND LINES ARE SUPER SMOOTH. For art shows I usually use all traditional media (acrylic, watercolors, and copics).
-
I actually would like it more with the dress and stockings. Stockings are always good.
-
I say her dress should be green.
-
Whoo! Finally got my account activated. xD
I 'specialize' you could say in adult-themed art and would ADORE to attend this.
I usually do furry-based stuff, but am at this moment working on some more anime and human-themed stuff, so I will upload that once I am finished with it.
Anyone who is interested in the furry-smut though just say so and I will toss a few links up here; I just don't know if that would be considered on-topic for this panel or not.
Will update with the generic anime smut once I finish with it though. ^_^
-

Waiting is such a chore here. :/
Err...I look forward to your artiness and stuffs. I absolutely hate furry art but there ARE a few pieces up on my wall just because they're so damn beautiful(and the artist actually has taste). Take that infectious knowledge and interpret it any way you like. ;D <3

If I may ask, why do you hate furry art? I know a certain number of taboos usually go along with it (stuff I tend to avoid), but still?
Okay. Finished up one non-smut piece, moving onto the smut-piece. xD It isn't much, just a little pin-up, but I will post examples of everything I can do in a moment here.

Double-post Whoa:
Here is a finished piece of mine, non-smut.

My problem with it appears to stem mainly from furries themselves but I have no idea why. Furries used to freak me out a bit until I started seeing cosplayers in full body anime suits last year. I used to find it a bit creepy like pedobear cosplay but for some reason I just don't see furries the same way anymore. Either I'm thinking too much or not at all. For some reason I carry a latent hatred of furries and furry art. Sure it seems reactive but I just don't understand my problem with furries and I'll probably continue avoiding them until I figure some of it out. It's complicated with all kinds of screwed up to say the least. :/

Yeah. Your art looks good but I still hate furries. Furry bondage is a bit cute though. x_X'
I like your basic female concept sketch. The anatomy is nice, the eyes a bit sparkly but the style reminds me a bit of Toriyama. Something tells me you share the same problem of not being able to draw feet. Hah. ;D
<3
-

Aww. That's disappointing to hear, to be honest. I find furries to be very friendly people. :3
BUT, moving along. :3
I'd love to participate in this panel, if I'd be welcome. :3 I am building up my portfolio as we speak, drawing PLENTY (arthritis incoming) and already needing a new sketchbook!! I only do traditional work, it is very rare for me to do digital art, so I hope that wouldn't be a problem, too.
-
Your art is pretty good. As to your link that was removed, you can PM the image to me so someone can give feedback on it, as well.
-
I too like the basic girl sketch. Vary simple and natural, not slutty or erotic at all. Personal taste pick.
-
I would love to do something for an adult art show if this goes through. I'll keep my eyes on this topic. If this turn out to be a go, how will we know to submit for it? Is there some place we can look that it will be posted?
Thanks.
