Title: Gundam 00
Post by: Washougal_Otaku on November 16, 2010, 12:08:48 am
So, I just watched a couple of episodes of Gundam 00, and have been for a few weeks now, on SyFy, and I gotta say...

WHAT!?!

I can't tell who's fighting whom; I can't even tell who I'm supposed to be rooting for!  Am I the only one?  There's just two things that make sense to me... I can recognize Richard Ian Cox's voice, and there's a lot of hot females in this show.  As nice as those are (especially the second one), I'd like more.  What the heck is going on?  Someone help me, please?

I watched this series subbed and liked it quite a bit.  Then again, I'm a Gundam fanboy so that really doesn't say much.  I don't know where SyFy is in the showing though, but I'm pretty sure from the scenes I catch here and there that you're in the second season.  It'd take a lot of explanation to get you up-to-speed on the show at this point.

Setsuna who was once all about fighting to end war, due to his childhood and how he was raised as a terrorist is starting to see that he can change.  This is due to *spoiler* Lockon's death at the end of season 1 (the current Lockon is the origional's brother).  The guy in the bushido mask was once a pilot for one of the three factions on earth (prior to their merger at the end of season one to combat celestial being - the focus of the main characters group was to unite the world through their terrorist activities) - who is now driven by his need to compete with Setsuna.  There is a behind the scenes faction who are beginning to move, I would talk about them more but I don't know how much has been revealed at this point.  Needless to say most of the main characters have already undergone major character arcs and changes during this season and over the course of season 1.

I doubt my explanation helped, but it was worth a try.

Hmm... well, thanks for the attempt, but it's sounding like it'd be better if I watched it with someone familiar with the series.

Start from the beginning and then your troubles will disappear.
Also the second season kinda sucks, in my opinion. The first season was just stronger.

If you want Gundam-y goodness just watch the Unicorn OVAs.

Honestly, the only reason I had it on was because I finished watching RAW and wanted to support anime on TV; I'm not really a big Gundam fan; not even really into ANYTHING mecha, to be honest.  It's just been kinda bugging me when I've been paying attention, last night in particular.  (They've started showing Tokko this week, and THIS ONE LOOKS AWESOME!!!)

If you're watching the second season than Gundam 00 really wont make much, or any, sense at all. The second season really builds off from the first, so if you didn't see the first, you wont know what's going on or why.
The first season really needs to be watched before the second, no doubt about it.

I've seen both the first and second season of Gundam 00 and I liked it a lot. Though I'm a big Gundam nerd (it's kind of an obsession), so maybe I'm a bit biased. :P

Not sure which one it is, since it's being aired on SyFy.  Maiku believes it's the second season, which makes sense, since it's been on for a couple of months now (feels longer though).

I believe it is.  I was flipping through and heard Setsuna mention Lockon and changing.  I'm pretty sure original Lockon died at the very end of Season one.

Hmm... well then, I guess I shouldn't really care about what's going on with the show until I start from the beginning then, huh?  Oh well; it's good enough for background noise between wrestling and Tokko, at least for now...

If it has this Gundam, the 00 Gundam, it's the second season... :)

Uh... I remember seeing people in the cockpits (or whatever they're called), but I don't recall well enough if I've seen THAT one before.

Scifi has been airing 00 for over a year now. It was one of the shows they started the Animondays block with.
Just saying.

^I know that this isn't the case; during the summer, they didn't show this at all.

Back to the Gundam image, I saw it last night; plus, the Comcast description said something about a second whachamacallit.

They didn't show durring the summer since the second season wasn't dubbed yet or they didn't have the rights to broadcast it yet. It is a rotating schedule, they wont just show the same shows all year, ya know.

...which isn't quite what you said the first time around.

Also, prior to the Summer, the job I was working had me working Monday nights, so I didn't watch it back then.  In fact, my current job, which I picked up just prior to Kumoricon, has me working Monday nights from time to time, especially in the beginning.
