Thank you, everybody, for making the photoshoot such a success.  Please post links to wherever you've uploaded your pictures from the shoot, and I'll catalog them here so that everybody can enjoy the fruits of our effort.   ;D

Yes, I'd love a thread for this year. The other one is so old and so cluttered, I have no idea who's actually coming and who's dropped out. It made my eyes cross, haha.

If we're scheduling a shoot, I'm up for any day but Saturday.

I think that would work for me. I have to get in costume+makeup and drive over from Hillsboro, which always takes longer than I expect it to, but I'll just be sure to get up early enough to actually be on time :Pb Should've splurged on a hotel room this year.

XD I kind of know how that goes, but we live 13 minute walk away from the conspace, so its quite a bit more convenient.

The only thing about Sunday is my group and I have a private shoot from 8 am till 9:30/10 ish, so 11 would be about the soonest we could do a shoot. (Food is important. I forget that sometimes)

Alright, folks, I cleaned up the post accordingly and started an attendance list.  I also commented to the official photoshoot thread so that they can add us to the schedule, since it sounds like nobody has a major problem with 11am and there are no big conflicts on the existing schedule that I can see.  (Unless there are a lot of people cosplaying Avatar and, uh, Soul Eater.)

So, yeah!  Sound off with your cosplays, guys!  It's lonely being the solitary one-and-only on the list, and I'm speaking as a frickin' Mai cosplayer here.

Or if we wanna be awesome, we could head to the Ira Keller Fountain. We've got a little greenery there plus the best fountain evereverever.

The Keller Fountain is friggin awesome, but a little farther from the hotel than the park blocks. But if everyone else is willing to go, then I vote there. : D

Second season Katara here saying that 11 should be fine with me, and yayyyyy more Avatar people! And seconding the though for Keller, because even though it's a bit farther away it is AWESOME. (plus lots of water = awesome waterbending pics AMIRITE)

Sorry, I didn't know it was an issue anyways! About the photoshoot, does anyone have any Idea's as to where we could going to the waterfront because it has a fountain (water) awesome trees (earth) Its windy and has neat sculptures and XD it can be spacious.

The waterfront is cool but keep in mind its the weekend, on labor day weekend. The waterfront is a huge tourist attraction. However, once we do decide on a place we can always go in a group to different locations.

We're kind of edging really close to the date of the con, and so far no one's come up with a good reason not to go to the Ira Keller Fountain. Mostly because it's beautiful and awesome, I'm sure. Anyway, I'm putting up a notice in the photoshoot post. Sunday at 11 at Ira Keller. If that reeeally ruins anyone's day, it's still up for discussion, since I can request an edit in that thread.

I'll try to make a map. Its not.. terribly far, but still a walk, so we may need to think about an initial meeting place before walking there. Its at SW Clay and SW 3rd, across from the Keller Auditorium.

So yeah. its the opposite direction of most shoots. Its a perfect location for a good avatar shoot, but we may want to consider meeting up and walking over together.
(btw it takes maybe 5 -7 minutes to walk there)

I want to do something similar, but for the different avatar nations, and 'supporters', like a fan video or sorts. Its kind of a big ish project, well, Im hoping I can get it big, but would you guys be interested? I need to rally, it could be in cosplay, or just dress in that nations colour scheme, anything to show support. If we get enough people I can make this video. It obviously wont be the size of all of Europe, but I think it could be really really awesome. if we get enough people. Im also going to post this on some LJ communities since, it doesnt so much matter we're all in the same place, just that we have people participate.

Each nation group would be responsible for making a dance, or it could be just random cheering, whatever your group wants.

What do you think?
It'd be like
Water Tribes, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation and Air Temples, and even Freedom Fighters, Swamp Warriors, ANY group in avatar you want to represent.

EVERYONE:
So Malaria and I have been talking about the horrors that occurred last year, as well as the fact that suddenly a lot of groups are re-planning their photoshoots due to Pioneer Square being off limits.

Adding to the fact Ira Keller may be confusing to get to for some people, heres a solution.

If you have a cell phone, or a number I can get a hold of you at, ON THE PHOTOSHOOT DAY, if there are any emergency changes or lost people, we have a solution.

I can PM my cellphone number to everyone whose posted in this thread and then if you could send your number back to me, thatd be awesome.

If you are not comfortable sending me your number, please at least write down mine, or tell me if you'll be with someone who has my number.

This may seem like overplanning but, honestly the photoshoots are heading toward a frenzy and Sunday is the biggest day. Anything to make things go smoother means more fun, less stress and better shoots.
This also means, if Ira Keller is packed with tourists, we can inform any late people where we may be moving to.
In addition, if you do not meet us before we GO to the fountain, youll have my number to call, and we'll know you are on your way.


I know this shoot isnt as big as most, but I still think its a good safety measure. Especially since we're so small, it'd be kinda tragic if one of us missed out due to miscommunication, you know? Its easier to keep track of a smaller amount of people.

*chuckles*  If we're taking videos and dancing, I have one request.

Half a dozen of us need to form up and do our best parody of that hilarious "earthbending" hip-hop dance from the Movie That Shall Not Be Named, complete with gorilla scream at the end, at which point somebody needs to jog past the camera holding a small rock.  Preferably with the word "FAIL" written on it.

(Yes, I know it was the other guy who bent it, but the fact that 90% of the internet thought otherwise is still a sign of a major cinematic error.)

Mal, how much do you still need to do for your Toph? I JUST finished her yellow tunic this week and ehr headband yesterday. I still need to finish fitting the pants and hem them. SOOO excited!

haha Im glad! I dont think I'll be painting them until this weekend though. swords are a bit more paint heavy than my armor so I may need to go get more spray paint...

Azula's wig is almost done, I couldn't get the bun as high as it is in the show :C. But it still looks AWESOME. All I need to do now is add the collar on the armor and paint some stuff on the tunic.

Hey, sewing machine, you know what would make working with you easier? If you didn't periodically knot the bobbin thread around a couple dozen times while I'm stitching. That would be lovely.
That said, the pants are finally done despite them taking twice as long as they should've.

On it!   ;D  And thoroughly amused at the number of Zukos.  We may finally solve the shipping wars simply by having enough of them to hand out one to everybody who wants one!

(I definitely have to get Mai/Jet pics, though, if that's all right.  A friend of mine loves that pairing, she'll squee her brains out.)

Also, I honestly dont think with our photoshoot we'll have much shipping war issues. We all seem like pretty cool cats.

And I can say I ship a pretty non-mainstream pairing. (Jet/Zuko) So..YEEAAAHHH.....

We should just make a list of everything we want. Personally I'm fine taking pics with anyone haha.

I only have 2 suggestions off the top of my head. :>

1)The front pieces seem a bit long, though it could just be the wig head making them seem so.
2)The wefts are showing on the side near the top. You could either buy a pack of extensions to fill it in, or I would suggest making sure your wig cap is a very dark black, and maybe pinning some of the bangs/front pieces back just enough to camouflage it.

Other than that it looks really good. I saw your comment earlier about not being able to get the top knot up high enough but I think you made it work.

Hashi: I still haven't added the wefts Naru is coming over to help me on those. The wig head has a really small neck but on me the end a little above my shoulders. I am going to smooth it out with hair glue once I find it.

I styled the wig, The wig head does make the side peices look long, but they will look good on saya's head.
I'm sewing in wefts I made under the wig so that problem is eliminated. ^^

Just saying, this wig took like 2 hours. *dies* thats the longest I've spent on a wig. XD

@Saya: If the top is sticking up(Im assuming its the pieces that were swept back at the crown of the head in the photos?) Try combing out the hair, so the gel/spray loosens. Itll help the hairs possibly lay flatter and pin them down. Then, I suggest put it on your head, grab a headband or bobby pins, lay them flat, and while wearing it, spray so it molds to your head, and not the wigheads shape.(this is how I make my germany wigs and general swept back wigs.)

Sidenote: If you do comb out some of the gel/spray, it helps to have a comb you can dip in warm water. It shouldnt be soaking but just enough so it moves through the wig fiber, like a reeeaally gentle washing. Also, if it knots, dont tug too hard, but stroke the knot, and hold it at the base of the weft affected.

In terms of the top knot, it's probably too heavy. I dont know how the knot was made, but I have a few possible solutions if it can be described better.

(Sorry Naru if you wanna fix it, Im just offering what I can atm! )

Okay, look. Her hair isnt so much a knot as a loop of hair surrounded by the ornament.
Example, that the hair at the crown of your head, think sokkas wolf's tail. wrap it around your finger and secure it at the base with a hairtie type thing. Thats..essentially her hair.

You dont need a lot of hair, and it makes it easier to get it 1)at the right height and 2) a lot a lot lighter.

Can this work possible with the hair you have in the wig? it'll flop down some but you can support it with bobby pins when its ON your head, and it should hold up fine.

for the lower part of the hair, keep it swept up, but slide it UNDER the weft where the top knot thing stops. So its both concealed, secure and helps the knot look more realistic.

No problem! Honestly, I love styling wigs and I've dealt with so many odd scenarios, Im just happy I could offer advise when you needed it! Let me know if there's any more problems or if part of what I said doesn't make sense, because even Im not sure if what I say makes sense half the time.

Also, your armor looks awesome! I also cant help but note how, we're all going to die of heat stroke this con.  So many long sleeves and multiple layers.

Your photos are better my cell phone pics in the dark. Or me trying to balance shoulder armor, arm armor, hold my hip armor and take a full body shot while holding my laptop at odd angles so the webcam works properly. I guarantee you.
I really like it so far though, your colours seem accurate (which is saying something. I was in Joannes for 4 hours trying to find a good colour scheme for jet) I do believe it looks better in real life though XD EVERYTHING looks better in real life.

F-Five layers? ...I am so sorry. Im kind of envious of the water tribers now, the ones I know are doing the tank top style tunics..

No kidding! And I dont know whats up with Jet, he has clothes from almost every nation, but at least its fall in his main episode so maybe that explains the many layers? ..I should stop trying to apply logic to the character designs.

If theyre irritatingly long, you should have someone pick things up for you. So they dont break. But otherwise, just practice picking up things and doing things with only the pads of your fingers. It should make things easier.

As to the latter question, it gets tedious putting 'so-and-so's friend' on the list, but it seems a shame not to mention that we have them. You could always list the people without forum names at the bottom, along the lines of 'we also have these characters but the cosplayers don't have forum names'. That way they're still included without cluttering up the list.

Hashi, tell her I made them myself out of like..faux fur fabric. Just fold it in on itself and dew it to the headband. I was having the same problem with the pompoms, not finding the right size, so I made them myself.

Yeah! it helped so much! Took a while to get everything the way I needed it to be, I also styled my Zuko wig and Saya's Germany wig.
XD that was around 8 hours all the together, just working on wigs.
But every thing looks awesome!
I'm going to try out the scar again and see how I can do! Wish me luck! I'll post pictures soon!
We wanna take a mini photoshoot tomorrow!

Wow! 8 hours is quite a long time! But then again, I spent probably 4 on Toph and I'm still not done, so 8 hours for three is extremely reasonable XD;

Malaria had to sit for so long, she began having deep conversations with a foam head while stabbing it with a wig pin. In the end, she became very defensive over her new best friend.

I'm thinking tommorrow I'll have pics of Katara (styling her wig) and Goatchild gets back so there may be some Sokka too. Basically, just a busy day tommorrow, but maybe some progress pics will result from it.

Hey guys, this is actually Hashi using Goatchild's account for a second.

Our dorm's internet decided to die. As in the school decided to block all independent internet sources. However, my dorm doesnt get my colleges wireless because of its location, and our wall socket only works once in a blue moon (hence this quick post). I dont know when I'll be able to post progress pics but it may be tommorrow or thursday, if not, I guess I'll see you at the con! Im going to do a photo request update tommorrow night and it may be the last update until con, so ..

If you have anymore requests post them now, or just wait until the shoot and shout 'em out.

Sidenote: I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone! We also need a secondary location in case of rain. For now, I'm thinking Director Park, its not nearly as sexy a shoot location, but what can you do? Hopefully it wont rain, but if it does, I sent everyone my phone number so if there are any questions feel free to text or call sunday morning.

Okay, I think that's everything. Now, back to 2 am costume making and wig styling!

I suppose I could have covered pre-made boots but making the shoes from scratch was so much more fun! (Is it bad that I want to cosplay Zuko so I'd have an excuse to make another pair of these?)

Seriously, that was an amazing shoot.  I had a fantastic time (and no, I did not lose my voice afterwards, thank goodness), and I hope you all did, too.

Hey guys! I was the tinier of the two teashop Zukos at the shoot, and season 3 Zuko for most of the rest of the con.

These photo posts are fabulous! Everyone looks so awesome~ And I'm seconding the hope that someone got a picture of the dramatic birds behind Sokka and Yue. That was the most amazing timing.

Thank you to everyone who came for making the shoot super epic, and double thank you to the people who put the effort into making this thing so organized! It ran super smoothly, I had a blast hanging out with people, and I hope to see some of you again at whichever con I end up at next. <3

Hiya! Shorter-haired Suki here!

I do not have any pictures to post, but I just wanted to thank everyone for being superawesomely fantastic at the shoot - I'd never done one before, so I was a little nervous, but everyone was really nice and relaxed about the whole thing. Also, one of the Sokka's (I believe you shaved your head for it,) asked for pictures of herself with the two Suki's. I'd love to see those! ..unless they were in the pictures already posted and I just failed and didn't see them. One of the two. Anyways, thanks again!

I dragged Hashi with me to Wigland (it's over by Lloyd Center here in Portland) and we picked out a decently thick, past-the-shoulders black wig and a couple black hair extensions. I wouldn't actually recommend using the wig I did 'cause it has a teeny wig net and it doesn't quite go from my front hairline to my nape. But in general, you want something thickly wefted and with a lot of bangs. Thin wigs like Cosworx's Ivy are no-go, despite their convenient full-face bangs. How long the wig should be really depends on a lot of details, like how you plan to construct the bun and give it its volume. For specifics, you really have to discuss with someone who doesn't suck majorly at wigs. -cough-

AX is the one in july, right? I might be studying abroad this summer, and I might not have money... I have to see.

There's always next Kumori too, but that depends on what the rest of the PoSms are doing. I think we're doing AtLA again but if not I'll probably have other things I want to do instead.

We could do it for Kcon. I was just planning on doing the Wolf painted Sokka outfit then, but if you'll do DoBS Aang, I'll be Wolf Armor Sokka with you. : D By which I mean Hashi will make it cuz she really wants to and I will help and model it and get awesome pictures for her since she'll be in Denmark. As long as it happens sometime next year, all is well. XD

That was indeed me. We had been helping out Roget with his body painting panel by being his models. But we had to leave early, so I was the only one who got painted. Though I've been planning to do the wolf makeup version since we started cosplaying A:TLA. So many Sokka outfits, so little time...

For the sake of being on topic, the weather will also determine whether I wear Season 2 Sokka or wolf-makeup sokka. The wolf-makeup outfit is long sleeved, and even if it's only 1 layer+armor, long sleeved is still long sleeved, especially in the sun. : \

@yagi- Cooler weather in my cosplay situations would really be appreciated, but for others, like Felix not so much, but you never know with the weather these days, so the best you can do is prepare for the worst, and hope it doesn't snow, or that it isn't over 100 degree's. :) hopefully, my Wig for zuko won't kill me. XD and I wont have to wear a pair of leggings as a wig cap. *cosplay emergency.*

Apparently I'm always the PoSm with the fewest layers. Both my versions of Aang, and then if I have Syaoran done for Sak... I should just give up on the whole dress-according-to-the-weather thing. xD;
(It also depends on whether I have time to finish the glider by Sak. If I can't I'll feel less inclined to do Black Sun.)

Saya and I plan on having a little game (avatar style) while we're at sakura con, and we would love as many people as possible come and play.

how it works, is, I will be tea shop zuko, and I will have a tray, or 3 by 4 grid of tea cups, on each of the 4 rows will have a symbol for each nation.
:) you pick a cup, and we ask you a question about the nation you chose. the questions get hard the farther back the cup, and inside of each will be a little packet of Ginseng tea. (Iroh's favorite)
8D and you get to keep the cup if you get the answer right, if you get it wrong, you can ask for an easier question.
We will most likely be doing this the whole first day of sakura con, and during the photoshoot for sure.

I knew they needed it, I just ran out of time to do anything about it. xD;
But yeah, if your bootcovers aren't close-fitting they'll sag, unless you make them out of a really stiff material... and even then it's a good idea. The way I made mine, they're like gaitors that cover part of the foot as well, and gaitors are structurally similar to corsets. Hence the boning.
