They have all the manga in the children's section, and there are some pretty pervy manga there o_O
I did a little research and found out this (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-08-21/oregon-man-says-son-borrowed-mature-manga-from-library) happened, although the manga was in the adults section.

See I like it when they just put it all in one section or into the different ones. As in either Comics in general or entitled to their own age groups.
Wait, battle vixens is 18+? that's a lie. It's not porn, sure it's mature but definitely not 18+.

Yeah they used to have manga in the children section of our library, then they finally wised up and moved it a few years back to the young adult section.
And reading that article I think the parent is stupid for not watching his kid, but I also think the library should have some type of system where if something comes up mature on the check out they person checking it out should have to show I.D

A bunch of the bookstores are lax with the age stuff as well. I had a friend (who was fifteen at the time) buy yaoi that was very much 18+. Then show it to me. Because honestly, my thirteen year old mind needed more scarring. I don't really think manga is taken as seriously, because it is a "Cartoon" or some childish classification like that.

The stores down here keep it simple. They just don't sell any Dark Horse manga. One may find some old unsold copies of Ah! My Goddess! But that's about it for D.H.

Gravitation is more shonen-ai in my opinion. I consider Sensitive Pornograph yaoi. Sukisho is debatable either way.
The scale of porn to plot is a steep one in most cases. Which is why the checkout dude in Borders should probably ask for ID.

I don't believe in restricting anything, but if a parent wants to keep the kids from 18+ content they could have an option to not give it without permission. This having to be requested when they get the library card, seeing how they can not get a card without the parent. I also think the parent in this article is retarded, and should not be slacking on his fatherly duty. It is his own fault.

This reminds me of the time I found the Inuyasha art book in the children's section at the public library...It obviously didn't belong there with the naked pics and stuff...I complained, but the employee shrugged it off...

That sucks, my yes, the parent should have noticed what he was getting for his kid.
I hate when they put the manga in the childrens section. >:( Then I feel stupid for getting it. My library (Gladstone Public library) FINALLY about a year ago moved all the manga to it's own section. So it's kind of cool, cuz you feel epic going into an area just for manga. Hahahha

It's VERY easy to sneak books out of a library without your parent's knowledge- they're not very big, easily hidden in a room, and in a purse or backpack. You'd have to be a Nazi parent to catch a kid doing it, which isn't healthy parenting IMO. So I don't wholly sign on with the "it's the parent's responsibility to know what the kids are reading" thing. Libraries are famously against any sort of restrictions on who checks out what, but putting manga that's clearly rated for adults in the adult section seems like a no-brainer.

I remember hearing something just like that quite a few years ago, but it was with Playboy magazines. If these libraries were stores, they'd be VIOLATING THE LAW!!! For that, I support the father in his pursuit of a lawyer.

If the father was good at being a father he should have a good enough relationship that his son would tell him these things. He might even get a nudie mag for his son if he felt he was responsible with it. Though I'm not quite sure how one is responsible with such a thing, hmm....

Everything is awkward at some point. But after a little while you get used to it, and don't think about the things you say as silly or aggressive. You just talk and discuss. If only parents were all open to ideas, we might just have a nice(er) lil planet here to live on.

That's not true. Many teens will do whatever they wantwhenever they get the chance, no matter how much parenting their parents have done.

I tried to give a 15yr old some of my old Inuyasha manga, and her mother got upset... O_O; I just took the books back and will hold on to them until she is 'older'...sometimes parents can be good about watching what their kids read...but they can go overboard...

I can understand InuYasha, too, honestly, especially the older chapters in the series. I don't see the mother going overboard in this case. Besides, it's better to protect the princess with thicker walls than no walls at all. Am I right?

The princess should be told how to fight just like the rest of the men. If you add a castle moat and walls too, that is up to her and her parents.

Technically, it's up to the parents and the parents alone, since they're the ones in charge. However, that is an interesting point about teaching the princess to also defend herself.

It's odd, though...she was allowed to watch Inuyasha with me before the dub was even finished...it was a lot of my subbed collection. She now pretends to not like anime and manga....and enjoy it in silence and with her friends. Her mom was convinced she didn't want to go to Kumoricon, and told me this when I invited her. She does want to go...but also doesn't want to choose one friend over another to hang out with. I'm the aunt, so this makes this whole thing even more awkward, ne? Keeping secrets from my sister... (Her dad bought her yaoi once...not realizing what it was....'ooo cat ears!', her dad said... is how I heard it went...poor girl told me she was mortified! But I think her dad's more lenient on manga and the like)True, some of the older chapters have content not meant for younger eyes...but I inked it out, looked it over, and seemed alright...

Well, the anime's content is significantly tamer than that of the manga's. They've removed all nipples, there's less blood, and some scenes were modified to be less graphic overall.

I have not seen much of the anime but... LESS BLOOD HOW?????????????????? That show was filled with blood. And I'm talking about the first 2 seasons.

I dont recall many heads being ripped off in the anime...true, some of the chapters were more violent than their animated counterparts, but to be honest...the only things wrong with the volumes I tried to give my niece that I can remember had the nipples (which I inked out..making Kagome look like she was wearing a bra/swimsuit/whatever when peachman stole her clothes because he wanted to..uh..eat her?) and when Jakotsu hit on Inu... (Heck, I thought Jakotsu was some messed up chick when I first watched horribly subbed bootlegs! :o )
