Title: Questions from possible Yojimbo
Post by: benjamin.riker@oit.edu on April 25, 2010, 11:27:26 pm
This is a list of question that I have been answering to the best of my ablity but if any one with more than one years experiance as a Yojimbo or in the know could pitch in it would be helpful in my recurting efforts.

1.) "There are a couple of events/panles i realy want to go to will i still be able to go to them"

2.) "So how do you know what hours you work, it sounds like you worked every hour you were not sleeping"

3.) "Whens the last day i can sign on to be a yojimbo"

4.) "Why do i have to pay to do work"

For the most part the rest of the questions could be answered out of the staff handbook, if a link could be found for that or PM'd to me so i can provide those answers that would be wonderful. More questions to come in the near future.

1. If there is an event that you really want to see you can either get scheduled to staff the event or plan your time off duty to attend.

2. Hours are requested and then assigned based on what we need at the time. Many of the Yojimbo get on shift and have so much fun they decide not to go off shift even when told to do so. *laughs* We do not force people to keep going by any means and actually would prefer if our staff did get plenty of off time and rest.

3. You will need to speak with Brandon (Operations Director) for a good answer

4. The staff fee helps cover costs for certian equipment or items we may use as well. The $10 staff fee is an incentive to get into the convention at a cheaper rate but with the promise that you will work, not just take advantage of it.

Thank you Kylite. i was pretty sure on 1 and 4 but i didnt want to give out bad info, and number 2... ill keep telling them that.

new question

"i was reading about the possiblity of escorting people to public transpotaion spots and other places near the hotel during the later hours. i know this would be completely aside from yojimbo duties and in no way officialy part of the con but would we be able to help out with that around the time we were susposed to be on duty *insert furtive nudge here*."

also if any one else has question about being a yojimbo feel free to ask.

Answer:

Officially, We cannot offer escorts off property. Liability fot the convention, the person, and for our own personal safety.

Unofficially, Many of us Yoji are often off duty and loitering about and usually looking for something to do to amuse ourselves. Im sure most would not turn down a request. Again Nothing official or advertised.

Personally I try not to mix business and pleasure. but thats me.

I would say wait till your off duty unless it comes up in casual conversation.

Yes. People do, shall we say, 'make connections' at conventions.

i made some of my closest friends at con.  And yes, i have asked some of them to go out with me at con. (i would never do that on duty)
