Title: Any anime and sports fans here?
Post by: garfieldelric on April 06, 2010, 08:08:28 pm
OK, guys. Some of us like the two great things in life, IMO: Anime and sports.

I know that some of you guys will say that it's tough to like both, but I have no difficulty in being enthusiastic in both fields.

My fave sports are baseball, football, soccer, hockey and tennis. I also like to attend sporting events when I can, and even with the slightly high prices, they are worth the money to attend.

How about you guys? Any sports/anime fans among us?

Okay, even though I watched the NCAA final last night, it had been a really long time since I had done that. Basketball is not my thing. It just hurts too much on my knees. Although it is certainly my brother's life! But then he actually gets paid for it too, not to play however.

My fave sport if football. Even though I didn't play it beyond 6th grade. I went to a new school that had soccer instead. sigh

To me we are coming up on the doldrums of sports, the NBA finals are  months away, and the only thing there is available on a daily basis is baseball. Although I do like Ichiro! But then I have always admired a guy who can always get on base. I like that better than homeruns.

I have been watching NASCAR races more this year, in order to have more to talk with my co-workers. Actually I would like to go to Bristol, Tn. in August for the race then. Yeah, right! It would be about as easy to score tix to Lambeau field to watch the Packers play.

My favorite hockey team is the Detroit Red Wings! Even if they are too long in the tooth.

I'm currently in a sport if that counts. I'm on the Track and Field team at my school.

It counts! Without them, what would the summer Olympics look like? And Oregon Women's team just won the national crown for the indoor season.  And Eugene is hosting the NCAA track and field finals this year.

I love to play and watch basketball.  I frequent a basketball message board.  I'm an op on the channel #basketball on EFnet (er, IRC -- Internet Relay Chat -- in case anyone is unfamiliar.)  I'll watch the 2 worst NBA teams face off.  ;D

I love playing a hard and competitive game of basketball, softball, kickball, floor hockey, soccer.
Though I do enjoy watching college football.

I thought you were gonna be a Beaver. hunh.

If motorsports don't count, then why do 160,000 people go see a race in Bristol, Tn.? And you can't get tickets to it for like a 3 year waiting list.

I've always been a fan of sports, long before my love for anime came to be.  For me, the top sports I enjoy watching are wrestling, football, baseball, and hockey.  In fact, I just watched the shootout win for the Boston Bruins over the Washington Capitals, which is significant, because I believe that Boston is the only team in the East that has a shot at preventing Washington from making it to the Stanly Cup finals this year.

Yeah, but Boston lost their best scorer for the season last month. Can they keep those kind of games going against Ovechkin (sic) in a 7 game series?

How about horse racing?

I'm a fan of college sports, specifically football and basketball.  Not enough to give stats and whatnot but enough to at least know the rules of the game.  I prefer college because you know that every 4 years it's a totally brand new team and you don't know what you'll get.

And when they're on, the Olympics.

I'm sure everyone here has seen some sport over tv, if not at school or in person.

Personally I like sports but watching, or going to games is not worth it unless the company is good.  I would much rather play sports with people I don't know and make friends and have fun, then go to some game and sit and watch, even with people I knew.  I enjoy playing soccer, tennis, basketball, football (flag) frisbee, golf, and just about anything with a ball (baseball is still stupid boring while playing it however), even if I'm not particularly good at that one, I still like playing.  Not being good at a sport doesn't mean you cant have fun playing.

If anyone near Gladstone/milwaukie/clack area like/wants to play tennis let me know.  I've even got an extra racket, and just hopping for someone to play with once in a while.  You can suck really bad too :D  I'll even teach you what little skill i know ^.^

Anyone else watch Ookiku Furikabutte, about High school baseball?

Trying to get to Tennessee for the Duck game on 9/11. It's to see "family". lol No srsly, lil' bro' lives in Nashville now.

I just did a chibi commission involving Momoe from Ookiku Furikabutte playing a recorder. Hahaha. Looks like a cute series.

As for sports, I am a fan of the Blazers. It was a travesty that they traded out Steve Blake. Pretty funny because most people thought I was talking about Outlaw when I mentioned I was sad about the trade. He was amazing in the Playoffs of '09. Camby is an awesome addition so it has worked out to the benefit of the team. We should've gone for Durant when we could have rather than Oden. Oden is a great player, but he's made of glass. Besides, he's three years my younger and looks thirty years older. There's something genetically wrong with him, I suspect. He shouldn't look that old for someone so young and fit.

During the Playoffs this year, I rooted for the Celtics. Kobe is the only player on the Lakers. I don't know what they'll do when he retires. The last win of the Celtics, he had scored 33 points where the next four highest scorers on the Lakers scored 8 or 6 points. He's an amazing player, but that's a horrible statistic for the Lakers to have.

I look forward to the Timbers starting the MLS. I'm not much of a soccer fan, but this is really cool. The FIFA cup has got me pumped for soccer. Go Italy! Too bad I work each time there's a game.

I hate Vulcan for firing Kevin Pritchard! And so I am not going to root for the Trail Blazers this upcoming season. They keep the garbage that should be thrown away, but fire what we love.

It's called customer service.
Title: Re: Any anime and sports fans here?
Post by: lychee-twist on June 24, 2010, 11:26:10 pm
Hmm. I guess we'll see what happens with that. Honestly, with players like Wallace out of the way, I don't think we'll fall back into the "jail blazer" era again just because Pritchard was fired.

Jay, you confused me at first since I was thinking I had just seen Pritchard on TV a few days ago. I didn't know he had been fired.

Really, it's best for the team Blake was traded. He was really horrible this last season. I think Fernandez is gone this year, too. That stinks because he was my second favorite after Blake. I guess I'll move on to Batum then.

Batum is stinking awesome. He's gone most of the season and comes back with a game like he's a seasoned player. Hard to believe he's as young as he is. Go Frenchie!

I'm an anime fan and I'm into the following teams:

NBA:
The Portland Trailblazers (Surprise, Surprise)

NFL:
The Seattle Seahawks
The Washington Redskins
The San Francisco 49ers.

MLB (Major League Baseball):
The Atlanta Braves
The Seattle Mariners
The San Francisco Giants

How's that for sports talk?
Title: Re: Any anime and sports fans here?

Vulcan, why the Seahawks go to the super bowl one year, and into the toilet the next, why they don't own the Rose Garden anymore, why paul allen almost sold the team or moved it elsewhere, yadda yadda yadda.

Well USA lost out on the world cup. At least it was by being beaten, and not from shenanigans by the referee. Nice no calls in their last game, for both sides. He let them play, which is how it should be.

Seems like the Eugene Emeralds are gonna suck again this year. Due to lack of run support. This isn't going to help me become any sort of baseball fan.

Is it football yet? Didn't get to watch the Les Schwab bowl much today.

I watched the first half of the world cup final and thought it was a joke, didn't bother watching the rest.  I see better game play in college soccer.  What I saw today (and have been hearing about from friends of most the games I didn't watch) seemed like they were back in high school trying to  prove who was the cooler kid, or some thing like that.

BTW, Kobe still sucks. He sucks in his fabulously talented way. Let someone else win, Kobe!

Ughhhh... My heart broke on that day.

Not only is my mom half-dutch, but the game was on her birthday and they STILL lost. I had to go straight to work right afterwards and I felt so defeated.

First the Canucks fail to make it to the Finals for the Stanley Cup, and now this! I have decided that 2010 is going to be my year of "almost wins" for sports. lol. XD

I personally don't give a whoopdty doo.  Soccer is boring, and it was somewhat predictable that 3 of the 4 final teams would be European.

Not a huge fan of it, either.  I hate the Lakers, especially because of Kobe.  I also can't stand the attention LeBron James has received, or the nickname he gave himself (arrogant little jerk...).  Besides, there's no more Seattle SuperSonics, so I have less reasons to care about the sport.

I used to be into basketball when I was much smaller. Of course, that was 1st grade, and I was obsessed with Space Jam. And I was all "OMG, basketball is so cool! I wanna play basketball too!" I actually have *2* glow in the dark stars in my bedroom.  I think I put them up there when I was like 13 or 14, heh.  The rest of them fell from the ceiling on their own.  And I don't think these even glow anymore.  D:  Or if they do, it is very faint.

Y'know, hearing about all the glowy stars has made me want to share a story about that time earlier this year when a couple friends of mine lived with me for a few months because their parents were being big meany heads. I'd blow $20 at a time on glow bracelets and the like, and we'd stay up late in the dark with all the glow sticks on, being completely obnoxious (and maybe playing truth or dare, but I'm not supposed to share those stories. xD) and just having a grand old time. When we got tired, we'd hang them up everywhere and pass out on the floor. Good times, good times.

Oh yeah! This topic is about sports! Um.....I take Kempo! ^^

Quit your crying.  It's not like there's a game every day of the week.

Seriously?  Can I meet him?  I love the Bills!

Haha. I didn't think there would be any Bills fans here to be honest. He doesn't talk about his football days much (only once have I heard the story) so I'm going to have to respect his privacy and say no to that, Washougal. Sorry.

And seriously. You don't mess with my mom and football. It's pretty funny.

Jay, he played back in the 70's. He's not any young sprite any more. I will say my neighbor's a huuuuuuuge duck fan.

My brother and I just switched over from Comcast to DirecTV.  I am so going to get myself into trouble when basketball season starts up.

(One downside.............. I can't watch Blazers home games that air on Comcast SportsNet.)

@ Lychee, I think we can rule out O.J. Simpson then. Not a Duck fan.

And I think I vaguely remember him being an honorary captain at a Duck game a year or two back.

@Reppy, you can get football now with Direct TV. As if the Blazers are not going to do something else stupid, real soon.

Well, Batum is definitely something to watch. His first game back after injury was bloody amazing. Roy wasn't nearly as impressive last year, and I don't think that Pryzbilla will be back because he injured his knee again back towards the end of last season. We'll see what Oden does, but when you look like you're mid 40's when you're actually 23 or close to, there's something wrong with you on a genetic or hormonal level. That's not a healthy sign.

I think I am going to watch more hockey this year too. The Olympics were awesome for hockey. THe Stanley Cup playoffs were too. I even noticed that Jeld-Wen, an Oregon company had ads on the boards of the rink for the Montreal Canadiens! huh. That, and there's Mom's Snak-Shak in Creswell, and the owner is from Quebec, and so hockey is spoken there. I think he once had something to do with teaching NHL goalies too, but I haven't asked if I heard that right.

But, I don't know if I should be a Detroit Red Wings fan still, or switch to the Canadiens. Blackhawks, because Marion Hossa was once a Winter Hawk?

So, I just got home from work.  I was planning on just looking at how Ichiro is doing (since I forgot to watch the game yesterday).  He only needs two more hits!!!  His next game is today, and I was hoping that it'd be soon enough to where I could watch it & not miss work; I can!  However, the game starts at 9:37.  It's in Toronto, so it'll 12:37 over there, but still!  I hope I'll get to see history, especially since I'll be missing some deserved sleep!

I never cared much for soccer.  The worst part of the game is the many rabid fans around the world who riot just because the opposing team scored a goal.  They ruin sports in general, almost to the point to where I start feeling bad for soccer fans.

Unfortunately, I think the Giants will win it all this year, too.  The only thing about that that I like is that they did it three years after "the great" Barry Bonds retired.

I'm also looking forward to the Houston Texans/Indianapolis Colts game on Monday Night Football tonight, too!  (GO TEXANS!!!)

Hey. Going back to basketball, what does everyone thing of the Brandon Roy situation with the Blazers?

I'm on the fence. His abilities, while still a strong Blazers player, really wasn't all-star material for the past season. With him out, Aldridge gets the light and has stepped up, and Patty Mills is really a pretty darn good player now that he's been given a solid chance. My 70-year old coworker always told me he was, but I didn't believe her. Never doubt a 70-year old nurse named Gladys. She's so awesome and I marvel at her NBA knowledge.

Who? lol

I live in the Eugene area. It's all Ducks, all the time. Especially with the new arena. Women's BB just set a Pac-10 record for game attendance today. I only heard that, and not the actual number.

Basically this year was a bust from the get go. Might as well get BR out of there sooner rather than later. Maybe he'll be ready to go sometime mid-year next year, and be something like 100%. BUt then Greg Oden could be having an All-Star year next year too!

Aaron, you called them right. Pack-vs. Pitt. I think it's really cool to have those two original NFL teams to be contending for a title. Hasn't happened since they started the super bowl, and/or Pittsburgh went over to the AFC from the NFC.
Title: Re: Any anime and sports fans here?

This is going to be a GREAT game, provided that both teams will play to their full potential.  I'm expecting a lot of blitz plays with many miraculous throws & catches.  Also, you've got the team that's won more Super Bowl titles than anyone (Pittsburgh has 6: SB - IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, and XLIII) going against the team that's won more NFL Championship titles than anyone (Green Bay has 12: NFL - 1929, 1930, 1931, 1936, 1939, 1944, 1961, 1962, and 1965; SB - I, II, and XXXI).  This will be absolutely EPIC!  (Except for the Half Time Show).

So do you know if or when the last time these two teams played for an NFL championship? I'm thinking it was back in the 40s. Dunno.

I'm hoping for a classic, to be talked about a long time. Except that by definition, I don't think it will be well remembered. But it will be a great game to watch!

Roy is working out tonight. So says my mom, who is watching the Blazer game.

Personally I'm putting my money on the Packers. Mainly because they share a lot with the Seattle Seahawks...(Including players and a a coach.)

I am, too, but not for that reason.  I'm doing this because they've overcome great challenges in the playoffs, and they did it strongly.  Pittsburgh made a great showing, too, but only because they're opponents weren't the best.  They beat Baltimore; fine.  The Ravens aren't Super Bowl quality yet (but they might be in a couple of years).  They beat the Jets, who were fortunate enough to defeat a division rival, making the WOW! of their victory less WOW!-like.

I think the Packers do a better job blitzing AND avoiding the blitz; this will be key, because the Steelers are still pretty amazing with defense.  I'd be surprised if either team gets past 23 points, (unless it's like the Raiders/Buccaneers match-up; that one made me smile).

My mom is from Wisconsin. Most of her family still lives there. It wasn't until I married my wife and suddenly had to be a Vikings fan. Not that I particularly wanted. I hated the Vikings in grade school. I liked their front 4 on defense, but...I liked the Steelers, Dolphins and Raiders back then. Now, I like good football games.

I need to think of who will wiin next year's Super Bowl. Co-worker is going down to Vegas for the NASCAR race there in March. He'll place bets for us. I won $48 by picking Pittsburgh a few years ago. Big Ben's first ring. Kind of hard to do when you haven't even had a draft yet, or a pre-season. I just had a feeling back then. I don't seem to have one now. Maybe pick the Ducks to win the Natty next year.

Bungles? Srsly? No way dude. Maybe the Iggles. I think maybe next year we will have more .500 clubs than the NFC Worst division. Just because of parity. I think teams like Buffalo and Detroit will win some of the games they lost this past year. And maybe teams like Tennessee and Oakland will not be the drama queens they were this year either.

I'd like to see if Indianapolis drafts some defense. If so, um no. Not next year.

I think which ever team gets more of the O-line from Wisconsin should be a much better team offensively. It'll help the run game at least.

Could you imagine Detroit drafting Nick Fairley to side along Ngdamukong Suh? Ouch for da Bears. Except Cincinnati gets first pick, right? They need O-line to give Palmer more time in the pocket. UNless they pick Newton.

Honestly, I couldn't really pick an AFC rep; WAY too early.  I'm really torn between the Jets, Jags, Colts, Raiders, and Ravens, so I chose a team that I felt bad for.  (I know, illogical, but funny).  The Eagles is a serious prediction, though, but things can change...

Anyone see the Pro Bowl, or the senior bowl, or the east/west games? I was wondering how guys from Oregon did in these games. Locker seemed to have not done that great. Marecic from Tigard won a brand new award, the Paul Hornung award.

I will say this.

This was my first Super Bowl...( or atleast one I actually saw from beggining to end.)

It was funny how pretty much most of the stars come in fancy clothes, then Adam Sandler comes in with an Orange Jacket and sun glasses, that amused me.

I'm quite pleased, too.  What's really funny, though, is on Saturday I made a prediction that the final score was going to be 30-24.  I was off by one point for both teams, but in a way to where I had the spread correct.

I'd disagree about the half-time show.  I can't stand the Black Eyed Peas, and I'd prefer to never hear an Usher song for the rest of my life if possible.  It was better than The Rolling Stones were, though...

Well, I think we know Boston can keep going. Makes my co-worker happy. phbbbtttt.

Cam Newton #1 to Carolina. Jake Locker #8 to the Titans.

THe Titans are mad. Sure they need a quarterback. But not a rookie quarterback, who has yet to show a really excellent season. Yes, it's hard to know how good he was as the Huskies stunk up the place again. Well, they did okay in their bowl.

So, any predictions on who's going to play for the Stanley Cup?  Since the 2nd round of t he playoffs have yet to start, I thought this would be a good time to make predictions for it.

West
Vancouver def. Nashville in 6
Detroit def. San Jose in 7
East
Tampa Bay def. Washington in 6
Boston def. Philadelphia in 5

If I'm right...
West - Vancouver def. Detroit in 6
East - Boston def. Tampa Bay in 7

...then...
Vancouver def. Boston in 6

I think it might play out that way in the West, but your East picks, seem....eh. Boston in the finals, maybe/probably, but....I don't think Tampa will oust the Caps.

Need to go check on the draft now...

So, right now, Vancouver is leading the Stanley Cup series over Boston 1-0.  I'm hoping that the Canucks win it; they've been there only twice, and were unable to win it both times.  I hope that the third time is the charm for them.

Not a good day for the Seahawks..... they got pwned by San Francisco, 33-17.

And the marquee matchup of the week- wow. The Ravens just whacked away at the Steelers, 35-7. Something tells me the Steelers are gonna be in for a rough season....

I don't like sports in general because I find them boring, but I do like rally racing and drifting Initial D style. Some day I hope to paint my third gen Celica up for a cosplay like the AE86 in Initial D despite them being somewhat different cars.

Oh, and I somewhat like Nascar for the strategy involved, but it is still pretty boring watching them go in circles 200 or so times... Not to mention the ammount of fuel that is wasted on that event it is no wonder we have an oil shortage lol.

Oh, and thanks to Hajime no Ippo I have a respect for boxing, but still feel it is pretty brutal. Certainly makes for good exercise though.

Week 2 of the NFL season is in the books, and just as I thought, I wrote off the 'Hawks against Pittsburgh, and I was right. 24-0, that is PUNCHLESS on the Seahawks part.

And, interesting to note, EVERYONE in the AFC North is in first place with a 1-1 record. How crazy is that, now? :D

Oooh...I love me some sports.  Love NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NCAAFB, and NCAABB...

Just gotta say, the NFL season is shaping up to be another fun and crazy year. (Then again, when isn't that the case?)

As for MLB, as someone who has picked the Phillies to win it all this year, their current six-game losing streak is quite concerning...However, both NL and AL wild card races are still fairly close, so it'll make a heck of a final week.

BTW, how about college football and stuff?

NFL Week 4 Update....
Aw, crap! Seattle lost a CLOSE on 30-28.

In other news, the Ravens are now in sole possession of first place in the AFC North, with a 34-17 murdering of the Jets.
Also, the Packers and Lions are now the last two undefeated teams remaining in the league this year. :D

Just went to the Maryhill loops on the 1st for the first time. On the way up I got stuck behind an SUV so it wasn't much fun (but I got the chance to enjoy the view) but I got some nice pictures from the top and had some fun going down hill  ;D

I couldn't go all out Initial D style with traffic on the road though... I might be crazy enough to drive sideways, but I'm still a responsible driver.

Got some good pictures of the car show at the Maryhill Museum shortly after as well.

Well, week 5 is done and over with- and the Ravens and Rams took the week off.

Hard to believe the 49ers are on top of the NFC West. However, we have found out that the Seahawks are NOT as punchless as we think- by beating the Giants 35-26 today, we know that we could be contenders. We think.
Title: Re: Any anime and sports fans here?

Agreed.  Plus, if they scored the possible game-winning field goal against Atlanta, then Seattle would have a winning record right now.  Oh, well.

Favorite things about the season thus far: Detroit and Green bay are both still undefeated, Buffalo is on top of the AFC East, Houston and Tennessee are leading the AFC South, and Indianapolis is winless.
Title: Re: Any anime and sports fans here?
Post by: garfieldelric on October 16, 2011, 08:24:00 pm
And so, week six is done and over with. The Seahawks took the week off, so no news from them.

The Lions finally took one on the chin to the 49ers. As a result, the two teams now have the same record, but one is in first, the other is second in their division. :D

The Packers are still the Packers, and now stand alone as the league's only undefeated team this year. On the other side of the coin, I think it is safe to say the Colts are now dead men walking. There's also a very good chance that they could finish 0-16. How sad.

The Ravens- what can we say? They are NOT letting up. They are starting to put more distance between them and the rest of the AFC North. So, if you want to make bets, bet on them to win their division. :D

I don't think it's sad; I think it's hilarious AND proves my point that the only reason that they've been good in the past is because of Peyton, who was only as good as he was because of his front line.

Time for our week 7 report!

The Seahawks and Browns- darn, that was rather pathetic and pointless. That score is what you'd see during a Mariners/Indians game, not this! *sigh*

Packers are moving on up, still..... Rams, Dolphins are still pathetic...... and the Colts hole is only getting deeper. Reality is starting to settle in them. They just might get Andrew Luck in 2012. You can take THAT all the way to the bank, now.

Ravens/Jaguars tomorrow, I'll post that in an update.

10/25 UPDATE: *sigh* That was NOT what the Ravens had in mind in that game. What an utter disappointment. Still, I think that they are for real.... I wouldn't let that loss get to them.

Oh, and today is the 25th anniversary of Game 6 of the 1986 World Series!

It's really odd to think about the fact that we MAY have not one, not two, but three 0-16 teams this season! That has got to be an epic first, in all the wrong ways, should that happen. *shudder* It also begs the question; should those three teams (Rams, Colts, Dolphins) end up 0-16, who gets the first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft?
Title: Re: Any anime and sports fans here?

Well, the first thing to look at would be if any of them will be facing off this year; they are not.

Next, they would base it off of the tie breaker procedures, only in this case, the "loser" of the steps would be #1.  The first step that would apply, though, would be "Strength of Victory."  In this case, though, it'd be "Who got their butts kicked the most."

Time for another ticker from me, Garfieldelric....

Inspired by World Champion St. Louis Cardinals, Rams finally put it together and win first game over Saints, 31-21...... Lions steamroll Broncos 45-10, in which the Tebowing craze strikes again...... Ravens escape with their lives over Arizona Cardinals, 30-27...... Seahawks disappoint against Bengals, 34-12...... Colts might become a story on 1000 Ways to Die after loss to Tennessee, 27-10...... more news later......

Week 9 update!

Seattle sunk again, as usual, to Tony Romo and his Cowboys, 23-13. Some of us like to bring back that memory of what happened in the playoffs close to five years ago. Aah, memories.

And Miami finally won one! It looks the Colts have Andrew Luck in 2012 in the bag. Congrats! :D

Pittsburgh..... heh-heh. Their fans suffered a collective heart attack when the Ravens snached the lead with 8 seconds left! Final Score: Baltimore 23, Pittsburgh 20. :D

I wish the Portland International Raceway were less expensive to get into for participation, plus the hoops you have to jump through are rediculous.

Week 10 has ended.... and here we go.

Wow, the Seahawks sure surprised everyone with their win over the Ravens. I kinda expected Baltimore to win, but for us, a win is a win.

Green Bay and Indianapolis are one more step towards 'perfection', one in the right direction, the other, not so much.

Washougal_Otaku, I was gonna attend the Hawks game this past Sunday, but I had a read-through (play) to attend to, and I thought I was gonna be disappointed, but eh well....

Okay I will admit I am in complete shock over how the Detriot Lions have been doing. I mean this was a team that was NEVER on the radar and now all of a sudden they've turned the NFL Upsidedown. Things have gotten crazy in Pro-Football. All we need now is for Rod Serling to come in and do his Twilight Zone intro and things will be complete.

Watching the Seahawks destroying the Bears; a little payback for the playoff defeat last year. ;D  The score just went up 31-17 with 12:39 left on the clock.

Okay folks here in thsi thread I'm introducing a new  aspect to make it more interesting. The EPIC FAIL award. The award given to the s[ports team, or athlete who has pulled what could be considered an epic fail.

And the first winner of this dreaded award is:   The Pittsburgh Steelers!

On the first play of their overtime game Tim Tebow QB for the Denver Broncos throws a pass 70 yards for the Broncos to get a touchdown, with not a Steeler in reach of the reciever. So to the Pittsburgh Steelers for letting your guard down and getting overconfident that you left yourselves wide open for a touchdown..THIS EPIC FAIL AWARD IS FOR YOU!!!!!!

So, the conference finals are determined, and one hell of a shocker is part of it!

The AFC title will feature the Baltimore Ravens playing on the road against the New England Patriots!  My pick: Baltimore 31-24

The NFC title will feature the surprising New York Giants in San Francisco against the 49ers!  My pick: San Francisco 27-21

Well, the Super Bowl matchup is set. And it's deja vu all over again, as Yogi Berra said. It's back to 2008 with the Patriots/Giants! Wowsers. I bet the Pats must be seeing blood after what the G-Men did to them then.

Oh, and while I may not be interested, I am pulling for the G-Men again.

On a more serious note, Joe Paterno, known for being the face of Penn State football for 47 years as its head coach (and who was forced after a TERRIBLE scandal involving one of his right-hand men) died Sunday morning at 85. May he RIP.

I, for one, was quite pissed with how the playoffs went this year.  However, all that matters now is the big game.  To be honest, I'm somewhat ambivalent on the subject...

Reasons why I would like to root for the Patriots:
1) I've liked the Pats since Super Bowl XXX against the Packers.
2) I was cheering for them in SB42; they lost, I got sick... :P
3) I do like the Pats; I've never really liked the Giants, especially after they lost to the Ravens.

Reasons why I would like to root for the Giants:
1) Eli Manning.  Though I'm not a huge fan of him, if he were to win two rings, it would make him look more successful than Peyton, who only deserved 2 of his MVP awards (in my opinion).
2) The Dallas Cowboys.  These two division rivals met in the final game of the entire season, with a Win Or Go Home atmosphere, situated to be 4th with a 9-7 record; not looking good, right?  Well, if the Giants win it all, that would be an extra sting to Tony Bore-mo and the Crap-boys.
3) ...not sure if I can come up with a third one.

I'm a little sad. :(

I was hoping the 49ers would get in. But oh well, The Super Bowl's sure to be a good game nonetheless and i plan on watching it with my stepfather. And I wonder what kind of crazy ideas for commercials they'll come up with this year.
Title: Re: Any anime and sports fans here?
Post by: Washougal_Otaku on January 26, 2012, 08:34:06 pm
I haven't really given much of a crap for the commercials lately; they've been getting more and more boring to me.  The only thing that I've heard so far is that there's a Go Daddy commercial, which is supposed to be the most risque one that they've ever had.  Didn't the NFL try to censor the Super Bowl as much as possible?  Why allow commercials like that if they're going to condemn Janet Jackson for having Justin Timberlake rip off her chestpiece during HIS song about stripping off the clothes of women?

I definitely think The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) is  cool and I'd love to meet him someday or have him be a character is a piece of writing turned into a movie someday. But I must admit I'm a card carrying DX (Degeneration X) fan. They were wild crazy and out of control and they drove Mr. McMahon crazy with their shinnanigans.  I'll always cherish the memory of i think it was shortly after i turned 30 when they made an absolute fool of Mr. Mcmahon on RAW after he'd banished them from the building where RAW was taking place. I know WWE is keyfabe (Scripted or fake) but still it was so much fun. I guess that's the sadist in me talking. >:D

News items:

On June 8th, history was made. The Mariners used not one, not two, but SIX pitchers to throw a no-hitter! They beat the LA Dodgers 1-0, first no-hitter for the M's since 1993.

The LA Kings have won the Stanley Cup, over the New Jersey Devils 4-2. First cup for them.

On a personal note- I may attend a Seahawks game! But which one? The 9/24 Monday Night tilt over the Packers, or the 10/14 battle of the Patriots? Hmm.....

Let me ask everypony out here: If Portland ever got an NFL team, what would it be called? In 1998, I thought it would be the Pokemon. But then again, it wouldn't fly IRL because of licensing issues. :D

^ On a slightly related topic, I took a Public Speaking class this past quarter.  As part of our exercising, we had to do a quick 1-minute speech on a random topic based off of a pre-submitted list of topics.  I had to once do one on ideas on how to make the NFL more popular while making the speech funny.  One of the ideas I said was to change the names of all of the mascots into various Pokemon; the Packers could become the Pikachus, etc., but I pointed out that since the NFL is anti-Seattle, the Seahawks would be forced to be the Psyducks.  ;D

Chances are that if Portland were to get an NFL team, it would be a team getting relocated.  Teams that I could see being "contenders" for relocating to Portland are: the Rams, the Browns, or the Jaguars.  Assuming that I am right, I would think that the Rams would keep their name, the Browns would probably stay the same...?, and the Jaguars would possibly change.  For the Jags, perhaps keeping the mascot something cat-related...?  The Portland Bobcats?  The Portland Cougars?  The Oregon Pumas?  The Portland Pumas?  The Oregon Bearcats?

IF there were a brand-spanking new team made for Portland, I'd take on the guess that it would be an AFC team.  Why?  Because the AFC West has two Californian teams, and Los Angeles would be more likely to get a new team, which would go to the NFC West, or they would get the Rams, which is already in that division.  Now, I could see one of the driving forces to getting a team in the Beaver State being Nike.  Therefore, I can see them wanting to play with: the Portland Ducks ( ::) ), going with another Disney animal in the Portland Dogs...? ( :-\ ), going with another bird in the Oregon Ospreys ( ;) ), or running (PUN!) with the Greek theme in the Portland Hydras, the Oregon Minotaurs, or (my favorite) the Portland Chthonics.

Well, the 2012 MLB All-Star Game is in the books, the National League will have home-field advantage in this year's World Series- thanks to three SF Giants' big hits in the 8-0 win. Their win streak stands at three now.

NFL Training Camp stars in less than a few weeks now..... who do y'all see taking the Lombardi trophy? My money is on the Ravens, again.

That All-Star game was a joke... did the AL even try to win?

Well, for me, it helps to analyze who I think will win the divisions, first:
NFC: Falcons, Giants, Packers, 49ers + Saints, Cowboys as wild cards
AFC: Texans, Patriots, Ravens, Raiders + Steelers (>:(), Dolphins as wild cards

Hmm... I'm gonna say... I think I'd agree with you on the Ravens, over the Falcons or Packers (kinda hard to say at this point, though)

Time to update this thing.

As many of you know, as of Monday, July 23rd, 2012, Ichiro Suzuki, our stalwart for the Mariners outfield for 11 years, is no longer with the team. He was traded to the New York Yankess in exchange for two pitching prospects. He had a wonderful style at the plate that earned him a reputation as a hit machine for a decade; and many in the PNW loved his excellence in the outfield, and how Superman-esque he was for those feats. We'll miss ya, Ichiro. It was one hell of a ride.
---
My thoughts: I'll be frank. I kinda knew this day would come, it came as a very small surprise to me, however. I later found out shortly after the trade went down that he approved of it; more power to him, I guess. I really wish it was with some other team. The Dodgers I woulda appoved.

I'm quite pissed that he's now a Yankee.  I would have been fine with any other team.  On the bright side, he has a good chance at winning a World Series ring now.  Unfortunately, I now have a "reason" to root for the Yankees... :P (I was rooting for the Nationals...).

I'd like to have LeBron, Chris Paul and Kevin Durant on a team. Man, they know what they are doing. It also looked like they tried to teach Carmelo Anthony how to play b-ball as a team sport, to limited success. Glad that guy is not a Blazer.

NBC coverage is nutty. That and I really would prefer to see sports than Bob Costas so much. Although Missy Franklin was a fun interview segment. I think she will be doing all the late night talk shows when she gets back. She's funny.

Well, even though they did go undefeated in the preseason, I don't think they've shown anything deserving of the label "Super Bowl Bound."  They are quite possibly playoff bound, however, I think it'd be as a wild-card, with a possible first-round victory (depending on where they go).

Ya know, the one game I want to see in person the most this year is the matchup between the Patriots and Seahawks on 10/14. The only home game for the Hawks in October. I am still seething at the Pats over the Spygate thing. Cheaters NEVER Prosper. (Remember Super Bowls XLII and XLVI.)

Meh, I couldn't care less about it, especially since they were spying on the Jets...

I like how all of Seattle's home games in December are division match-ups!

Oooohhh.... looks like the Seahawks, who started the 2012 NFL regular season where they ended the 2011 season, have stumbled out of the gate, losing a heartbreaker to the Cardinals, 20-16. Let's hope they can pick up the pace when they come home next week.......

Two Monday Night matchups tomorrow, and they will both be ragers: Baltimore/Cincinnati and San Diego/Oakland. I am sooo looking foward to those.....
Title: Re: Any anime and sports fans here?
Post by: Washougal_Otaku on September 10, 2012, 01:10:58 am
That Seahawks game was terrible... which was what I sort of expected.  I think that if Arizona had started off with Kolb instead of Skelton AND Seattle still played how they did, the score would've been more lopsided...

I still think Seattle has a good chance against Dallas next week, provided that Pete Carroll works out the two major flaws the Seahawks had this week: not protecting the QB and too many penalties.

Though I'm upset by this, I also find it funny that Seattle lost to Detroit.  Reason: beforehand, every loss the Seahawks had was a division match-up, and everything else was a win; by this logic, Seattle should have won.  Oh, well.

Not only that, but they might be able to win the division!  This could be the best thing sports-related I've gotten wrong in a long time!

                         Now      Week 15                Week 16
San Francisco .... 9-3-1    @ NE = L      9-4-1  @ SEA = L   9-5-1
Seattle ............. 8-5       @ BUF = W   9-5     v. SF = W   10-5

Once these three games take place (which the end results provided are quite possible), a Seattle home victory against the St. Louis Rams OR a San Francisco home loss to the Arizona Cardinals, and the division goes to the Seahawks!

Final score yesterday 50-17. Seattle triumphs over the Buffalo Bills.

SOMEBODY TELL ME WHAT KIND OF WHEATIES THE SEAHAWKS HAVE BEEN EATING. I WANT SOME OF IT!!!

50 to 17 Seahawks win that's just insane. i love it, but that's just an insane rout.

And I'm happy to see the Redskins and the 49ers are now in the playoffs.

Actually, the Redskins haven't clinched jack.  They are just currently sitting on top of the NFC East, but only because of tie-breaker procedures.  Dallas and New York have the exact same record.  However, I do believe that the 'Skins have the best chance at winning it.  (Which is what I hope happens).

UPDATE!!!

The six AFC teams have been determined, now they just need to sort out seeding.

Predictions:
#1 - Houston, #2 - Denver, #3 - New England, #4 - Baltimore, #5 - Indianapolis, #6 - Cincinnati  (In other words, no change)

Four of the NFC teams have been determined, but only two divisions have champs.

Predictions:
#1 - Falcons, #2 - Packers, #3 - 49ers, #4 - Redskins, #5 - Seahawks, #6 - Bears

With these being said, here's how I currently see the playoffs going.
Wild-Card Weekend: Colts @ Ravens = IND by +9, Bengals @ Patriots = NE by +13, Seahawks @ Redskins = SEA by +2, Bears @ 49ers = CHI by +5
Division Weekend: Colts @ Texans = HOU by +12, Patriots @ Broncos = NE by +2, Bears @ Falcons = ATL by +8, Seahawks @ Packers = GB by +5
Conference Weekend: Patriots @ Texans = HOU by +8, Packers @ Falcons = ATL by +3
Super Bowl: Houston Texans vs. Atlanta Falcons = Atlanta Falcons by +4

Though I don't think Seattle will make it to the Super Bowl this year, I do believe that Russell Wilson will take the rookie season record for touchdowns thrown.  The current record is 26, set by Peyton Manning; Wilson is currently at 25, and will be facing the Rams this final week.

We'll just have to wait and see Washougal_Otaku. But with the way the NFL season has been so completely unpredictable my sense of incredulity has left the building so to speak. In short I think anything is possible right now.

Technically, yes.  Anything is possible, but probable is another.  i.e. It was possible that the Browns could have reached the playoffs, but the probability was (even at the beginning) virtually non-existent.  I think the same can be said about the Hawks reaching the Super Bowl this year.  Next year... who knows? 8)

THE SEASON IS OVER!!!

Schedule

Wild-Card Weekend
Saturday @ 1:30 - Cincinnati Bengals @ Houston Texans (3)              My pick: Cincinnati by +5
@ 5 - Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers (3)               My pick: Green Bay by +3
Sunday @ 10 - Indianapolis Colts @ Baltimore Ravens (4)                   My pick: Indianapolis by +9
           @ 1:30 - Seattle Seahawks @ Washington Redskins (4)          My pick: Seattle by +2

Division Weekend
Saturday @ 1:30 - The game @ Denver Broncos (1)
             @ 5 - The game @ San Francisco 49ers (2)
Sunday @ 10 - The game @ Atlanta Falcons (1)
           @ 1:30 - The game @ New England Patriots (2)

If we assume that I am correct, Denver will host Cincinnati, San Francisco will host Green Bay, Atlanta will host Seattle, and New England will host Indianapolis.  In this case, I favor the hyped-up Manning/Brady rematch for the AFC, and the Falcons hosting the Packers.

Conference Weekend
Times to be determined

If my prior predictions are correct, I see the winners being the Patriots and Falcons.

Super Bowl
Sunday, February 3, @ 3:30

With this prediction, I'm leaning in favor of the Patriots to win it all.

Oh, yeah, and two key things that I think deserve to be talked about, outside of the playoffs...

^ NICE!

Well, I'm a little late for this, but the Division round is half-way over, and I'm overjoyed by what's happened!

The Denver Broncos eliminated themselves from the playoffs, thanks to an overtime interception thrown by "the great" Peyton Manning, leading up to a game-winning field goal for the Baltimore Ravens!  Now they will be watching later today to see if they will be flying down to Houston or up to Boston.

Whoever the winner in the Green Bay Packers/San Francisco 49ers bout would be was guaranteed less assurance.  The victorious 49ers will either to Atlanta, provided that the Falcons can overcome the Seahawks, or host their division rivals, should Seattle be victorious.

After falling behind, it's time for updates!

San Francisco defeated Atlanta to reach the Super Bowl for the first time in 18 years.  They are 5-0 in the Super Bowl, looking to be the only 6-time winners with no losses.  Will they be successful against Baltimore?  New England?  Let's see what happens in today's AFC title game!

Wish: Baltimore def. San Francisco by +5
Predict: San Francisco def. Baltimore by +9

Um, this is their second title.  They won it 12 years ago against the New York Giants.

So, I went to the Seahawks' website this morning.  The list of their opponents for this upcoming season is out, and it looks TOUGH!

Home games: Saints, Buccaneers, Jaguars, Titans, Vikings.
Away games: Panthers, FALCONS, TEXANS, COLTS, GIANTS.

Despite the tough list of opponents, I think Seattle has the potential to reach, at least, eight wins this season.

Wait a minute... how's that going to impact the scheduling?  I would think that every week would feature (at least) a few inter league match-ups, so that everyone can still play their full 162 games...
Title: Re: Any anime and sports fans here?
Post by: garfieldelric on March 07, 2013, 03:46:43 pm
Interleague play will now be spread across the whole season. It was designed to give all 30 teams a fair chance (read: a 1 in 5 chance) of making the playoffs.
Title: Re: Any anime and sports fans here?
Post by: Washougal_Otaku on March 09, 2013, 02:40:18 pm
I think it'd be a good idea to have each league create a 16th team, though.  That'd make it better for scheduling purposes, I think.  Of course, MLB would most likely have to redivide the teams, much like what the NFL did in 2002...

Hmm... what cities would be good candidates...?  I'm gonna play with this idea for a while.

Vancouver, BC
Portland, OR
Salt Lake City, UT
Calgary, AB
Oklahoma City, OK
San Antonio, TX
New Orleans, LA
Indianapolis, IN
Nashville, TN
Birmingham, AL
Jacksonville, FL
Charlotte, NC
East Rutherford, NJ
Montreal, QB
Quebec City, QB

Okay!  Here's my theoretical division realignment!

American
- East - Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays
- Central - Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, Tampa Bay Devil Rays
- Mid-West - Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers
- West - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners, (either) Vancouver Captains (or 86ers) (or) Portland Greens (or 59ers)

National
- Atlantic - Miami Marlins, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Washington Nationals
 - Northern - Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates
- Southwest - Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants
- Southern - Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, New Orleans Pères, Tennessee 96ers (or Atheneans or Francs)(New Orleans is the previous San Diego Padres)
Title: Re: Any anime and sports fans here?
Post by: Washougal_Otaku on March 09, 2013, 05:39:50 pm
So, for fun, I've been working on other theoretical ideas for this.  (Man, I miss having time to kill...).

If Houston stayed in the National League:

National
- Southwest - Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Giants, Padres
- Mid-West - Astros, Brewers, Cardinals, Rockies
- Central - Braves, Cubs, Pirates, Reds
- Atlantic - Marlins, Mets, Nationals, Phillies

American
- Great Lakes - Blue Jays, Indians, Tigers, White Sox
- Eastern - Devil Rays, Orioles, Red Sox, Yankees
- Middle - Rangers, Royals, Twins, either New Orleans Rogues or Tennessee 96ers
- Pacific - Angels, Athletics, Mariners, either Portland Greens or Vancouver Captains

If there were no difference between American & National:

Eastern
- Southeastern - Braves, Devil Rays, Marlins, Nationals
- Northeastern - Mets, Orioles, Red Sox, Yankees
- Ohio/Penn - Indians, Phillies, Pirates, Reds
- Great Lakes - Blue Jays, Cubs, Tigers, White Sox

Western
- Southwestern - Angels, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Padres
- North Central - Brewers, Cardinals, Rockies, Twins
- South Central - Astros, Rangers, Royals, either Rogues or 96ers
- Pacific - Athletics, Giants, Mariners, either Greens or Capitals

If no differences at 30 teams:

Eastern
- Southeastern - Braves, Devil Rays, Marlins, Nationals, Orioles
- Northeastern - Mets, Phillies, Pirates, Red Sox, Yankees
- Great Lakes - Blue Jays, Brewers, Indians, Reds, Tigers

Western
- Californian - Angels, Athletics, Dodgers, Giants, Padres
- Central - Cardinals, Cubs, Royals, Twins, White Sox
- Big - Astros, Diamondbacks, Rangers, Rockies, Mariners

This was fun!  I should do this for the NBA & NHL...
Title: Re: Any anime and sports fans here?
Post by: Washougal_Otaku on March 09, 2013, 06:51:53 pm
Okay!  Here are my selections for the NHL!!!

Eastern
 - Northeast - Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators
 - Southeast - Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Washington Capital
 - Mid-Atlantic - New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers
 - Erie - Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs

Western
 - Central - Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, St. Louis Blues
 - Southwest - Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Houston 45s, Phoenix Coyotes
 - West Canada - Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets
 - Pacific - Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Seattle Wizards

Now, onto the NBA!!!

Eastern
 - Atlantic - Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers
 - Southeast - Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Bobcats, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic
 - Central - Chicago Bulls, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks
 - International - Buffalo Emperors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Toronto Raptors, Washington Wizards

Western
 - Northwest - Golden State Warriors, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento (or Seattle) Kings, Utah Jazz
 - Southwest - Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns
 - Red - Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs
 - River - Kansas City Independents, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Orleans Hornets

...this was a lot easier on account of these two leagues already being separated by geography, rather than rule set.

The M's season has started! Could be worse, could be better, but one thing that made me gag was the Mariners loss to the Astros 16-9. At one point however, they were trailing 13-0! WOW.

Meh, it happens.  What matters most is the final standings, and I doubt that Houston will surpass Seattle.  Heck, from what I've seen, they might even have a shot at being better than Oakland.  It's still really early to tell, though.

It's May now, and all of a sudden....... the Mariners are now close to second place in the AL West. :D

In other news, the Canucks got bounced by the Sharks in four straight, and now the Kings will face off against the latter team in the next round of the playoffs. Who's ready to watch?

GO MARINERS!!!

Honestly, I hate the Sharks and the Kings, but between the two, I'm cheering for San Jose.

As for the other Western series, I am most definitely rooting for the Chicago Blackhawks over the Detroit Red Wings.

With the East, either Pittsburgh or Ottawa would be fine, so long as they beat whoever wins between the Bruins and Rangers (which I'm hoping for the Bruins).

NBA - I'm upset that Miami defeated Chicago, but happy (and sad) to see Memphis defeating Oklahoma City.  I'm hoping that Golden State beats San Antonio, but I don't think it will happen, and couldn't care less about the rest of the Eastern side of the bracket.

So, the NHL Eastern Conference Finals have their teams determined: The Pittsburgh Penguins vs. the Boston Bruins.  As for the Western, the two participants could be determined as soon as Monday, and as late as Wednesday.  Currently, the Detroit Red Wings lead the Chicago Blackhawks, and the Los Angeles Kings lead the San Jose Sharks; both series are at 3-2.  It looks like for me, unless Chicago can win two more games, I'll be rooting for the East, no matter what happens in June.

The NBA Conference finals are already in full swing.  At this moment, the San Antonio Spurs are leading the Memphis Grizzlies 3-0 (no surprise there), while the Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers are tied at 1 each.  This one will have me cheering on the West (most likely the Spurs) come June.

I am also hoping to introduce a game for us to play relating to the NFL.  To put it simply, it will be akin to a betting system on the games throughout the season.  Every week, we say who we think will win each game; the one who gets the most points wins the week.  After 17 weeks,  the season champ will get some sort of advantage in the playoffs (not quite sure how that'll work yet).  The entire game ends after the conference finals.

At this point, assuming that we do this, I would like some feedback on how to make the game better.  I'll probably post what I have planned in the near future.

The Miami Heat have won their second-straight NBA title with a close game 7 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.  As much as I hate the Heat, I will give them props for a great series finale.  This is the third overall title for Miami.

Meanwhile, the Stanley Cup finals are tied up at 2 a piece between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Boston Bruins.  This has been a great series overall, and I'm personally pulling for Chicago.

The Chicago Blackhawks have won the Stanley Cup in 6 games!!!  This marks the fifth Stanley Cup victory for the team.

Since I really want to do a contest/game/thing with the NFL season this year, I have a little prediction game that I made for the playoffs.  I'll be using last year's standings as a guide.

Every team that you pick to be in the playoffs gets you one point.
i. e. Patriots, Texans, Ravens, Broncos, Falcons, Packers, Vikings, 49ers, Seahawks = 9 points

For each team that you select to win a division and they succeed, you get another 4 points.
i. e. Patriots, Texans, Broncos, Falcons, 49ers = 5x4=20  -  29

For each team that you select to be a wild-card and they succeed, you get another 2 points.
i. e. Seahawks = 2  -  31

For each team that you select to be a wild-card, but they end up being a division champ instead, you get 3 points.
i. e. Ravens, Vikings = 2x3=6  -  37

For each team that you select to be a division champ, but they end up being a wild-card instead, you get 1 point.
i. e. Packers = 1  -  38

You can get and extra 2 points per conference if you correctly predict the #1 seed.
i. e. Falcons = 2  -  40

The one with the most points at this point wins the playoff challenge.  I would also like to do one that follows the playoffs as they go along, but let's see how this idea goes first.

The first game of the regular season is on September 5, which is the first Thursday after con.  Hopefully, there will be at least 3 people willing to play this game, or some similar variant.  I do have a similar system for the regular season, based on a week-by-week basis.  Heck, I'll post that here, too.

Each week, we will go over the games about to be played.  We will pick who we think will win each game, eliminating those that we all agree on.  Those that correctly select a winner get 2 points.  If their victory is in overtime, 3 points.  If the game ends in a tie, 1 point.  In the event that the game is between division rivals, an extra 1 point is given to the winner.

Let's use last season's week 1 as a guide.

DAL @ NYG  - Larry and Moe pick Dallas - They get 3 points
WAS @ NO - Curly and Moe pick New Orleans - Larry gets 2 points
STL @ DET - Larry and Curly pick St. Louis - Moe gets 2 points
JAX @ MIN - Larry and Curly pick Minnesota - They get 3 points
MIA @ HOU - Curly and Moe pick Houston - They get 2 points
SEA @ AZ  - Larry and Moe pick Seattle - Curly gets 3 points
SF  @ GB  - Curly and Moe pick Green Bay - Larry gets 2 points
SD  @ OAK - Larry and Moe pick Oakland - Curly gets 3 points

Totals for week 1 - Curly=11  Larry=10  Moe=7

For this week, Curly gets 2 season points, Larry gets 1, and Moe gets 0.  This keeps going throughout all 17 weeks.  Whoever has the most overall season points (which is a max of 34), wins.

What do you guys think?  Good system?  Does it need some tweeks?

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PORTLAND THORNS!!!  THE FIRST EVER NWSL CHAMPIONS!!!

The championship game took place during Day 1 of con, with the Thorns topping the Western New York Flash 2-0!

Well, Week 1 is (mostly) in the books, and the Seahawks are off to a flying start, beating the Carolina Panthers 12-7.

As for the AFC North....... talk about your wasted week. All four teams in that division are 0-1, so you might say they had a crappy week! XD
Title: Re: Any anime and sports fans here?

True, but you can also look at the AFC North like this: two of those losses were expected (Cleveland and Baltimore), and one was funny (Pittsburgh).

Ladies and gentleman, if what I've heard is correct tonight the Seattle Seahawks not only beat the 49ers but they've also put the NFL on notice. And to those at NBC who have been dissing the Pacific Northwest, to them for their open disrespect of our neck of the woods all I have to say are three words, IN...YOUR..FACE!

Week 3 is mostly in the books, and to nobody's surprise, the Seahawks steamroll over a team that many people have questioned their existence lately, the Jacksonville Jaguars, 45-17.

In other news, the Seahawks are on top the NFC West @ 3-0; everyone else is 1-2. :D

As the NFL completes one quarter of the season: WOW. What a victory by the Seahawks. Down at one point 20-3, they made a furious comeback to force the game into overtime, thanks to a late Richard Sherman interception to even things at 20-20. OT was furious, but the Seahawks ended it with a field goal to win, 23-20. Their toughest challenge yet awaits next week vs the Colts.......

I really doubt I was talking to you during the convention in the video game section about Seahawks. XD (There was one guy with a Seahawks hat and as a fan of the Seahawks myself, I just had to talk about them!)

But yes it is the playoffs! And as I predicted, Seahawks made it into the Playoffs! (Yay!! ^___^) With that, here is my current predictions:

Seahawks vs Saints - Victory: Seahawks

Despite the Offensive Line troubles lately with the Seahawks, I am completely confident that the Saints will blow it as this season their Road Games was just horrible. And though they won their Wild Card Game against the Eagles, lets face it, the Eagles been horrible at their Home games for some reason this season. So it was kind of expected. With that said, if Percy Harvin does play on Saturday however (Which they will probably rotate him in and out with other receivers), their Offensive Line should be strong in the Passing Game! (But we will most likely still go with the Running Game for most of their plays.) If Harvin is not in, the 12th Man should be more then enough along with a Seahawks "Legion of Boom".

49ers vs Panthers - Victory: Panthers

As much as the 49ers went to the Super Bowl last year, this year I think they will be stopped here. Cam Newton has been a remarkable QB for the Panthers while Colin Kapernick is not consistent. If I have to describe what the game might be like on Sunday, I imagine lots of scoring from both sides. But it will be Cam Newton and the Panthers that will make the most points by the end of 4th Quarter.

Chargers vs Broncos - Victory: Chargers

Yes you read that right. Despite Peyton Manning being an outstanding QB this year (I rank him 1st in my book this year), its the randomness that is the Chargers that will beat the Broncos on Sunday. Remember, no one expected the Chargers to make it into the playoffs. Yet...they did. Secondly, it was the Chargers that was capable of beating all the top seeds in their conference in the regular season. Broncos, Chiefs, Colts. All defeated by the Chargers during the regular season when it was thought they would lose. In fact, if the Chargers manages to defeat the Broncos on Sunday, I expect the Chargers to be in the Super Bowl.

Colts vs Patriots - Victory: Your guess is as good as mine...

Got to admit, the Colts surprised me last week. Andrew Luck literally saved his team. But...its hard to say if he can pull it again off against the Patriots. I haven't been following both these teams during the regular season so I don't know very much about them in terms of stats. If anything, if Broncos manages to beat the Chargers this weekend, I don't think it matters whatever team wins here. They will be defeated by the Broncos in the next match and it will be the Broncos that will be in the Super Bowl.

And those are my predictions for this weekend!!

I make it no secret i support all pacific northwestern teams. All of you will please excuse my exuberance while I get this out. it's nothing profane but this just has to be said.

ODDS MAKERS, WE FOOLED YOU!!! WE FOOLED YOU!!! WE FOOLED YOU!!!

The odds makers were saying it would be the Broncos by 3. Me, I was hoping beyond hope that Seattle would win. But oh lord have mercy! 43-8 that was one the most thorough trouncings I have ever seen in all the Superbowls I've watched. Last night Seattle sent a message loud and clear to the rest of the NFL "WE'RE SERIOUS!!!!"

So from this 12th man (Seattle Seahawks fan) here in Portland, Oregon all I can say is congratulations Seahawks for proving the odds makers wrong and showing you have the heart and fighting spirit of what it takes to be a champion.

While we await the Seahawks title defense, the NHL Conference Finals are set. It's the Kings/Blackhawks for the second straight year (cheering for the Kings) for the West and the Canadiens/Rangers in the East- both teams have not been to the Stanley Cup Finals in 20 years (when yours truly was just a kid)! Calling it now: Kings/Canadiens (rematch of 1993) with the Kings winning in 6.

As for the Mariners, so far, it's been an up-and-down season. They are in third place with a 20-22 record. Eh, things will get better as time goes on, I hope!

I saw something a few days ago about some "predictor" program calculating that it thinks this year's playoffs will be almost a perfect copy of 2013's, with the key point being Seattle vs. Denver again (with a different winner).

The NFL is about to kick off another season!  Sunday, there was the first preseason game, the Hall of Fame game, as the Minnesota Vikings def. the Pittsburgh Steelers 14-3.  The Seattle Seahawks will have their first preseason game this Friday at home against the Denver Broncos, beginning at 7pm.  Their first regular season game will be Sunday, Sept. 13, in St. Louis to take on the Rams; that game will be at 10am.

The Portland Thunder have made it into the AFL playoffs, but not on account of their record.  In a strange turn of events, the Las Vegas Outlaws and New Orleans Voodoo have folded.  This made Portland the 8th and final team to represent their conference.  They will face off against the San Jose SabreCats this Friday at 8pm.
