Isn't Hendricks Park where Pluto used to be?
GAHH!! I have been so busy with school I haven't had time to check the forum in awhile. I was looking to see if there was an Asian Celebration thread and found this one.
Yeah, sorry people. I am the Anime Friday guy that Rem was referring to earlier. Feel free to PM me or check my profile for my e-mail. I will be having Anime Friday tomorrow as well as every Friday at 7:00pm. I will also be at the Asian Celebration if you want to talk to me about stuff there. I will be cosplaying Hohenheim from FMA. If you don't know who that is look for a guy in a long brown coat with a blue bow-tie and blond wig. I will usually be someplace making origami dragons and T-Rexes, so Check the craft room near the cat-ear workshop. I also like playing anime music, so I may be trying to get time on the sound system in that room as well.
What is Anime Friday? Well it is viewing anime every Friday. Duh! ::) I have been having viewing parties at my home every Friday for about five years now. I have download subs of just about every show to air in Japan during that time, as well as a lot of older shows. You name it, I probably have it, or know where I can get it. I have over two terabytes of stuff on drives that I can access from my livingroom. All anime is displayed on a 46" HDTV in the livingroom and played over a 7.1 surround system. I am as good or better than many of the theaters in town for audio quality.
If coming by LTD it is bus #40. Get off at the corner of Elmira and Fairfield.
My address is :

I am the only Pleger in the phonebook, so I don't believe anyone who says they couldn't figure out how to contact me. ;D
I almost forgot! If you want a good place for cosplay photo shoots I recommend Hendricks Park (http://eugeneareaparks.com/park.php?id=8). That is THE PLACE to take garden cosplay pictures in Eugene.
HOLY CRAP!!!! YOU'RE JENNY'S DAD! I USED TO LIVE NEXT TO YOU!!!! I USED TO LIVE AT 278 ANTON COURT YEARS AGO!!!!
HOLY CRAP!!!! YOU'RE JENNY'S DAD! I USED TO LIVE NEXT TO YOU!!!! I USED TO LIVE AT 278 ANTON COURT YEARS AGO!!!!
That be me alright. So who be you? (Check profile and Deviant art site) Oh! Hiya Kayla! ;D
Isn't Hendricks Park where Pluto used to be?
??? ??? ??? :-\
Is this some sort of reference to being way out there (as in the planet Pluto) or Mikey's dog Pluto or what. Sorry It is to vague for me to get it.
Hendricks Park is just off of Franklin Blvd, not to far from the U of O. If you are heading toward Springfield (East) then turn right at the last light onto Walnut (The right lane actually forces you to turn) and follow the signs on the left side of the road. I think it is Summit Ave. The park is easy to find.
All along the Skinner's Butte Bike Path heading towards Alton Baker Park(Where the sun is) there's models of each planet. It was part of the Solar System Project. Pluto, I'm guessing since I can't ever find it, has been taken out because NASA says it's not a planet anymore. How have you lived in Eugene and not known about the planets? They've been there for as long as I can remember.
@Ageha: 8D That would be like... SUPER SWEET. I can just imagine a mini crowd of Canadas taking over theworldday~ Talk about epic and appropriate! <3
@Ageha: Shall I put you down as a confirmed attendee? Pfft, I sound too professional. xD
Okies~ I'll just wait for any others who are interested in this, at least some of the locals who posted here in the first place. xD
July 1st (since it's Canada's birthday)
Plus, it's right dab in the middle of downtown which is nice. We could do that or meet up at Valley River Mall, get some grub and walk to Polk Park right across the bridge. It's the perfect place for photo opportunities. I take pics every time I go there. I personally prefer the latter but it's up to you guys. :3
oh! i have the perfect item you Canada twins can pose with! its a little stuffed bear wearing a Canadian sweater. X3 its so cute. i'll post a picture of it as soon as i can, that is if you guys want to use it.
Edward. Why did you burn down our house? >:(
PASTA! ;D
@Wuntvor: Oh sure, you're more than welcome to tag along for the awesome-tastic adventure. It's not like there's an age limit or anything. And thanks for being considerate of that. :3
And you don't have to bring your laptop unless you feel like it and if it's not too much of a hassle. *shrug*
I'll put you down as a maybe, ok?
To better enjoy the flavor of the crossover I actually took out from the library "I Am America (And So Can You)" by Stephen Colbert.
You guys were an entertainment to watch btw. xD
AC?!
Too bad I have work..
It would be so sweet to throw a party and have that be the meet, plus the trick or treating AND corn maze! Oh oh! And haunted house! : DD *is getting into it*
yes, lets! I'm at a musical theatre camp for the next two weeks, but after that... I'm free :DD
The idea of a picnic is wonderful! maybe at Hendricks park so we can have som shade as well :DD
@Sora: Musical theatre camp? That sounds so amazingly fun!! Musicals are the best! Enjoy that last week. ^.^Yeah! Y'all in Eugene should come to our shows! The first one is Wednesday at 2:00, in the south eugene high auditorium. The second is Friday, not sure of the time just yet. I'll keep you updated. They are two different shows with completely different numbers, so coming to both is encouraged.
Hm, I'm not as familiar with Hendrick's Park but it does seem like a more ideal picnic location with the heat wave and all. Yeah, Hendrick's Park it is. :3
Oooh yeah~ It's super fun. It's in Junction city over the weekend of August 12-15. The site is uuuuh here~ http://www.scandinavianfestival.com/ Admission is free and they have tons of fun stuff and Scandinavian food and yeah~ We went last year and had a lot of fun. <3
Omaigod. i sooo wanna gooo!! take me with you! ;A; would you guys be cosplaying or just be street cloths? I could don my Iceland cosplay, or maybe even my Norway would be here by then! : D
Sooo, uhhh... Has this topic turned from "meet-up in Eugene" to "which events are fun in Eugene?"?
A Eugene meet-up doesn't require any special event. In fact, considering it doesn't happen much, it might be better to do something more casual first. For instance, Toshi's Ramen and the Sushi Station are both good places to just meet and hang out and talk about fan stuff.
I wouldn't say that~ It's just cool to know what events people are going to because then you can plan to possibly go together if you're attending the same event. I'd say that qualifies as a sort of meet-up too~
Also yeah, I love Sushi Station and go there fairly often anyway~ It would be a great place for a meet-up. Toshi's is pretty good, too. n.n
I went to Terry's Anime Friday last night for the first time in years, & it was awesome. There are now 2 new shows I'd enjoy following, that I never would've heard of. Meantime I will be at the Sunday of Faerieworlds to see my pals' pirate band, Man Overboard. Radien, are you in Free Shakespeare again? Albeit that Macbeth is quite gloomy, I always go for AnnMarie's costuming & performances, & usually in garb.
Well on the bigger events, we were just saying, 'hey, thats coming up!' and then others were like, 'woah! sounds cool' but we werent really planning to all try and go, right? im pretty sure ._.
@Radien: I personally prefer sushi since it's a healthier choice but I wouldn't mind ramen either. They're both equally yummy. :3
We could do both too; first the casual meet, then the bigger one to celebrate the end of summer? What do you guys think?
@ Soramunesanzun: Hey wow I just realized you are the same gal from the Dr Who cosplay thread. Which means you live near me & maybe you could even help me with my intended epic cosplay of the TARDIS!!!
I have to bow out of anything involving sushi. For 12 years my best friend was a fish. A green severum, South American cichlid. She died in late May, may she rest in peace, be well-reborn, & find me again. I could handle Toshi's sometime, as they can make a vegetarian broth (I think).
less expensive,We are poor teenagers who spend what little money we have on cosplay.
Ugh. Not The Last Airbender, please. It hurts my soul.
I'm just gonna take the helm and say this is set for wednesday the 4th. meet at noon outside the wig store at vrc?
Oooh, I never saw monsters vs aliens :D
Hetalia has sucked me in so much that it has taken over my creative ideas for other cosplays of other series. >A<;
Then we can hang out and talk TARDIS!
Okay we should stop spamming this thread- pm me and we can figure out times and such. Then we can hang out and talk TARDIS!
*beams*
hmmmmmmmmm...... I may or may not cosplay. I need to ask my aunt and uncle.
If I do go, I have Ball-jointed dolls.... Any one care if I bring one?
so we're looking at the seventeenth or eighteenth?
*pokes his head in*
Would you guys mind if I joined in? I'd have to bum a ride from one of you maybe...if that's ok... 'cause I'll be getting out of class on the UO campus at 12:20. If that's too much to ask I understand >_<. I can bring Asian munchies.
I don't know how people are planning to travel to the picnic, but I will have my car. I don't have a problem driving over to the campus to pick microgamer up around 12:30. Where on campus is a good spot to meet, or to be more precise where is your class and what is close? Also, how will I know you when I see you? I will be driving a silver Pontiac Vibe. I will most likely have the windows down and the sound of anime music will be coming from the car. ;D I don't think I will be wearing my cosplay, since it is rather warm, I will most likely be wearing some sort of Anime themed T-shirt. I plan to start dying my beard blond this weekend, so I will have a blond beard and sideburns and brown hair. My beard is styled like Hohenheim from FMA, so I don't think you will have any problem recognizing me. ;)Thank you so much. My class is at Condon so does meeting at the corner of 13th and Kincaid work? I'll probably tell you what I'm going to be wearing that day, whether it be casual or cosplay. I'm willing to do either, depending on what everyone else decides to do.
Oh, please cosplay! I will definitely be in costume and so will be some of my friends. I am bringing several people who are not on the list for foods, as they haven't yet said what they'll bring. But... the count of people (including people on this thread) will be over 12.
Edit: Paper plates, cups, cutlery and bowls have been acquired~ 8D
Hey Wuntvor, I just looked at the weather, and though I was tempted to wear my Poliwhirl hoodie, it's gonna be upper 80's. So I'm just gonna be wearing a knitted panda cap, a black shirt with a white seal/emblem, and board shorts. I'll be waiting on the campus side of 13th and Kincaid, facing the traffic that's coming towards campus on 13th.
@Ageha: D8 WHYYYYYYYYY? Enough of that now. But really, it's super sucky you can't make it. We'll be missing you~
So I got done making the potato salad and according to my mom, it tastes amazing; so that made me proud. ^w^ I hope you guys will think the same~
I still haven't decided on a cosplay yet but I'll think of one by later today... right before the meet. xD;
So yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing everyone later today!! x3
'Sup, ladies (and gentlemen). (8
It's Reno from today. I got an account just for you guys.
Thanks for those pics! I'm excited to see the others too.
@Radien: Ahaha yesh! I love that picture~
And yeah! Cosplay next time if you can~ It'll be awesome!
AFTER KUMORICON PLEASE O: O: Maybe sunday the 12th or thereabouts?
Great group piccie, Wuntvor! Do you mind if I use it as the main pic for my Eugene Cosplayers group on FB? I'll of course credit you. :3
May I just throw this out there: a Eugene cosplayers get-together at con?
Just, yanno, sayin'.
@Wuntvor: I like the Emerald City Cosplay Corps. That may just be because I'm such a sucker for Green Lantern.
I've only ever played one of the Phoenix Wright games, and I didn't really enjoy any of the designs from it or any of its compatriots. I would suggest Trinity Blood but I'm pretty sure nobody wants to have to do that kind of crazy work. I would otherwise be all for forming a cosplay group here in town!
i second that motion
THE ECCC! SOUNDS VERY ECO-FRIENDLY! : D
The problem with Ghibli stuff is that we'll have to decide on a singular movie or else we'll be one big mishy-mashy group.
How about the complete works of Leiji Matsumoto, then? We could all be from different shows and still kinda be relevant to each other.
I liked both those suggestions. XD
I was also thinking about how we were talking about Studio Ghibli cosplay the other day~ That might be fun to start off with if everyone likes it~ n.n
Haha this is totally off the topic of what we're talking about right now, too, but is anyone else going to the meeting tomorrow? Er...today? 8D
@ name. I love that it could be ECCC...then ECCHI when appropriate *raises eyebrow & giggles*
Can't stop the signal~
Blue paint everywhere comes to mind. But it would be pretty awesome nonetheless. That's probably the only Leiji Matsumoto I haven't at least dabbled in, when I mentioned him I was thinking more Space Pirate Captain Harlock or Galaxy Express 999.
Or perhaps Cowboy Bebop?
Or one of us could don tweed and a bowtie and we could go have magical adventures in space and time.[/shot]
Haha this is totally off the topic of what we're talking about right now, too, but is anyone else going to the meeting tomorrow? Er...today? 8D
(I would tag along as you guys didnt kill me if I took one og my BJDs people like to call them anime dolls but they are not. *points to profile pic.* I take at least one with me every were)
Is anyone going to the Free Shakespeare in the Park at 6 pm at Amazon Park?
so wait are we still working on the group name? I am lost...
so wait are we still working on the group name? I am lost...
I think ECCC was approved?
Everyone I know is getting tired of hearing me talk about Doctor Who, Radien. When I suggest it the reaction it usually garners now is "Dammit, woman..." so you'll have to forgive my trepidation, yeah?Haha, my friends do kind of the same thing, but for me it's Doctor Who and Batman.

Radien: I'd be interested in doing a Crescendolls group sometime in the future. Build and size-wise, I'm best suited to the drummer. I'm not much for the tall, long-limbed characters. >>
so are we making different cosplay groups or one big one?
I am lost... Some one help me...?*Steals RozenMaiden_Girl back to HDC*
I would think it would make sense to stay one big group, but occasionally have specific theme photoshoots for particular fandoms.
i think our group should just be for random cosplay meet ups. :I but thats just me.
Yeah, this group doesn't have to have perfect structure or anything super special. It's all about having good, casual fun with one another as a group. :3
@Radien: Uhhh Sorry for the late reply. >.> I know one other person in this thread who has them. I just wanted to make sure cuz I didnt wanna them to scare any one...
@Radien: Uhhh Sorry for the late reply. >.> I know one other person in this thread who has them. I just wanted to make sure cuz I didnt wanna them to scare any one...
No worries.
Thanks for being considerate. :) I'm not scared of dolls as long they don't come to life and try to kill me. ;)
Yeah, this group doesn't have to have perfect structure or anything super special. It's all about having good, casual fun with one another as a group. :3Exsactly Brit it needs to be completely random. Why???
@Radien: Oh yeah, we can totally have themes if some of us felt like it. I wasn't putting your idea down; in fact, I support it all the way. I was just pointing out that the group could be flexible and do whatever without the obligation of sticking to only one theme. But that doesn't mean it's not an option. A portion of us who like the same series can get together and cosplay as a sub group. :3
Themed is fine and fun! because the people who dont dress up could help with photos...?
Just an idea.
Uhh so does everyone understand now?...One who thinks about continuously trying to perfect their current ones? :P
Thanks, GenkiIchigo. You put it better than I probably could have.
But just to reiterate: I am NOT suggesting we all put on matching costumes and go out in the woods to take pictures. We can go out in the woods, and costumes would be great. Photos may happen. But there won't be a dress code.
If some of us happen to be going to the same convention, though, we could do something on the side. Make sense? After all, what is a cosplayer if not thinking about their next costume?
One who thinks about continuously trying to perfect their current ones? :P
One who thinks about continuously trying to perfect their current ones? :P
I am very limited to what new cosplays I can add to my list. I will join a group if I already have that cosplay on my list, but I am NOT adding a new one.
I apologise that I came off as pissed ;o; I was totally not. Text is so impersonal -.-
Radien. I hear you. Eugene celebration isnt really that cool, I just haven't met any cosplayers here, so I thought I would see if anyone was planning on being there.
Yeah, I dont think anyone is going anyways. :)
Oh goodie~ ^.^
So, maybe we could have one the week after con or later, depending on how serious our con withdrawl syndrome is. (Mine starts a few days after con.) What do you guys think?
Anyone ever go to SCA events? Radien & I used to go to them together back in the day. It's basically LARPing in the woods with everyone in different medieval times themes.
I'm going to one in Corvallis area 9/17-19. That's my version of handling post-con syndrome!
Well, that's the best short-hand I know for telling folks about it who have never heard of it, & it certainly matched the flair of some of the events I most enjoyed (pirate-themed "unsanctioned" spin-off events).
Hendricks Park, 1pm would be fine with me for either 9/11 or 9/12, but, again, the Facebook says 9/11, & here it says 9/12...so...which?
*Where* in Hendricks Park?
Anyone joining me & Radien for my birthday (9/24) at Wuntvor's Anime Friday?
If so, let me know what kind of treats you like & whether you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions.
Ok, so it looks like a few people seem alright with the date (I'm very sorry to those who aren't!! D: ); so I'll just take it as a confirmation and set it as the official date. *is beginning to think there should be a new thread for this*
So now, let's talk about location and time. On the FB group, I set the start time for 1PM since that was when the last meet was held but we can change that if you guys prefer an earlier or later time. :3
As for the location... Hendricks Park was definitely lovely and perfect for the picnic/potluck; so do we want to do that again or something on the more casual side? Like, we can just hang around downtown and go out to eat... wait, it's after the con, meaning many of us might be broke by then. xD; Me especially!! So... ideas, anyone?
And cosplay-wise, do we want to go with a theme or just come in whatever we want? If that's the case, I'll probably be some version of Canada again. =w=
No bell peppers, noted.
And how did I miss that? Never been to the pool, per se, but all those years of free Shakespeare!
The dinosaur is on the Amazon Pool side of the children's play area. You probably can't see it at all from the community center because the big white and blue play structure is in the way. In fact, it's directly in the way. That explains it!
Gosh, I really haven't been to that park in years.
If there are still picnic tables and benches in the hedge areas we could set up base camp there?
@Radien: B-but... I FREAKIN LOVE TEH KETCHUP. D8 But I suppose I can survive without it for a day. =w=
Normies? In Eugene? That's funny. I went with my friend Misse to the Walmart on West 11th wearing our Zexion and Marluxia wigs. We didn't get any funny looks. Not one. Some old lady even commented on the color of our hair being pretty. Then some guy from the electronics department asked who we were cosplaying. Eugene is full of hippies and other strange people. I admit we're not up there with Portland on the wierd level, but we've got our share.Haha. That guy in Electronics was me =P
From what I've heard, all the normies are in Canada, not a single strange person. My goal of scaring normies is to go to Canada with a bunch of chick friends all dressed up in lolita and just walk around enjoying ourselves.
I also have a standing invite from Tammy (and would love to meet the other Kumoricon-legacy cat named after Kaylee from Firefly/ Serenity!).
However, I tend to shy away from game nights just because I tend to be the least-experienced player there & don't want folks to feel bogged down having to explain the rules to me.
So....fair warning, if I go :)
I loved Clue, the really really old school version, have no idea what the modern game is like. Do you want to drop hints & see if we can guess how (& where & with what) you'll cosplay it? ;) J/K
Thanks!
It's a childhood nickname, actually. My real name is Valeria, which sounds just like malaria. It sort of stuck to me, and I ended up adopting it as my online nickname out of convenience.
I made it to the Pirate Fest the last two years, but this year it's just bad timing. ><
@raiden, thanks for the offer, but I don't have car troubles ever, I don't drive, I just walk everywhere. I just didn't show because I don't like going out when i'm broke, I spent too much at con then had to pay rent haha. Also, if anyone can think of something cool for a present for rem pm me please.*squee!*
@radien, thanks for the offer, but I don't have car troubles ever, I don't drive, I just walk everywhere. I just didn't show because I don't like going out when i'm broke, I spent too much at con then had to pay rent haha.
Radien knew my old crew (actually I met Radien through people in my old crew) when we were the Ergh Pirates.
@radien i still appreciate the offer. Thank you.
My birthday isn't for a while. Ah cool birthdaysx2! Also Then pm me if you have ideas for wuntvor's birthday too.
Just a reminder! TOMORROW night! Anime Friday at Wuntvor & Shelley's, (PM, text, or call me for directions: (541) 606-0318); celebrating Wuntvor's birthday and mine. Hope to see as many of you as possible there, & in cosplay or Loli!
Shelley is making both vegetarian and meat gyoza (pot stickers), I'll bring something or other, & we'll be watching brand-new shows, including:
Gekijouban Bungaku Shoujo aka Literature Girl – This is a movie about a girl who, quite literally, devours books. She can tell how good a book will be by tasting it, and survives off of the books she eats.
Bungaku Shoujo: Memoire – This is the OVA prequel to the above movie. It is also a love story, sort of like Chobits, in that she is looking for the perfect writer who can write stories just for her.
Bungaku Shoujo: Kyou no Oyatsu – Hatsukoi – This is another OVA based off of the same movie, and occurs between the two. I won’t say much about it because that will spoil it.
Eve no Jikan Gekijouban – Speaking of Chobits, This is a movie created from a bunch of shorts. It is about “what do machines think of their creators?” Based totally off of Asimov, and taking place in what is most likely Japan, it makes you think of Bicentennial Man or I Robot. An interesting twist of thought, and worthy of some intellectual debate.
Kowarekake no Orge – This is a 30 minute OVA that also makes the watcher consider the connections between humans and machines. Again reminiscent of Chobits, the main character, a young man living alone, finds a female android in the trash and takes her home.
Please come!
@ Radien: I'd love your company on Fridays (well, anytime, but yeah, at Terry's). I'm also into the idea of sitting for less short periods of time in a row (this is not really about sitting, but about my eyes). So @ Terry, maybe occasionally we could mix it up, like, watch 1-3 eps of something, take a break together for ? snacks/chat/games/event planning ?

It's not about sitting for me either, it's just that I don't like focusing on the TV without talking. If I wanted to do that I could download it at home. Actually, I wouldn't mind if it turned into an "anime and game" night where we spend some time playing card or board games.... but hey, I like games, so maybe that's just me.
Well it's all Terry's call. He is the mayven of downloading & probably wants the chance to view & share all he's DL'd...But perhaps if it would increase turn-out he would vary it a bit? I'll ask tomorrow....and heck yeah I'll call/text you. :)
And yeah, I'm frequently free evenings, so feel free to give me a call or text, Rem. :)

Halloween party aaa May or may not be able to come. My best friend usually has a halloween party, and if she has one this year, I am obligated to go to that (see: best friend)
@ Terry, I've loved everything I've seen at your place this year! Great job!
BTW: When my roommate moved out (with no notice! screwing me over financially, but otherwise I am *so* glad he's gone) he left a bag of frozen non-vegetarian pot stickers. Figured maybe I would bring them Friday, one of y'all can make them, since I can't eat them....?
Hard to believe, given some of the programming I've run, but I've seen almost none...
If you are out and about, text me. Tomorrow I see Tron: Legacy! Tu and W, Solstice parties.
Wuntor read it that way, too, but no, I went today. I work tomorrow.
I won't be having my Anime Friday on Christmas Eve, but I am thinking I may try having a New Years Eve stay up till Midnight viewing party. Is anyone interested in attending something like that? Let me know if you are. ;D
hey! is anyone going to the Asian Celebration next weekend?
hey! is anyone going to the Asian Celebration next weekend?
Anyone going to the Asian Celebration (http://www.asiancelebration.org/) next weekend (19th & 20th)?
I am still trying to see if KumoriCon is doing anything there this year. So far I haven't gotten any reply's, to my emails, nor have I seen any threads on the forum. I plan to attend, and may even volunteer to work in the Children's Area doing origami.
*waves* I'll be at Wuntvor & Easilyamewsed's Anime Friday this week.
I think I see why Kumoricon left Eugene, eh?
I think I see why Kumoricon left Eugene, eh?
i saw a big group of Hetalia cosplayers at the Oakway Center on sunday. XDHeh, sounds like you caught sight of us... Didn't want to come up and say hi?
i don't know if i saw you or not. me and my friend Birdo were the ones standing awkwardly on that pedestal in the middle of the courtyard XDDD
