Title: The Anime I am currently watching and loving is...
Post by: jaybug on January 06, 2010, 05:10:27 pm
I'd like to keep this simple, and user friendly. Just tell us what you are watching that you really like. You don't have to give a doctoral dissertation, just try to give us some of the reasons why you love your show so much, and try to get us to love it too. Or just give it so many of something out of how many whatevers.

Here are some examples, I hope.
Kimi ni Todoke. Watch it because it's as good as His and Her Circumstances. Watch it if you love Production I.G. works. It's slice of life high school style. I'm liking that it makes me smile, if not guffaw. I like when anime makes me feel good enough to smile. You'll wonder if the movie the Ring, was a comedy.

Tales of the Abyss. I guess this one is more of a hidden gem anime. It doesn't seem to be generating the talk, but it's worth watching. I had to watch 3 or 4 episodes at a time. Darn cliffhanger seques!

And I've been watching these 5 minute anime, that are to me just some kind of art film projects. They can be just way too strange. But I did like Kotatsu Neko anyway. That cat is subtle. lol Having watched Health with Little Red Riding Hood, must be like watching Patrick run around in his robe, or something like that.

After I get more of an opinion on some others I have started, I'll let you know.

Please, tell me what you think is worth watching. And no it doesn't have to be brand new.

Speed Grapher. I rented the first volume with my friend while house sitting and now I'm really mad that I put off watching it for so long (I'm kinda dying from not watching it.) Umineko has been blowing my mind lately too. =]

Cobra the Animation: Just came out in Japan, and it is off the hook.
That's it for anything new from the winter season. Soon I'll start on shows I need to catch up/ start on.

Oh lord, some else has seen Health with Little Red Riding Hood? Probably my favorite retarded video of all time.

Umineko no Naku Koro Ni if you liked Higurashi at all you'll be sure to like that. I love how rediculous it can be at times and Beatrice is my favorite character ever.
 I also really enjoyed Trapeze. It's weird as hell but the little things they do in the show that seem to make no sense actually are well placed and connect with other things. Yeah, it's cool.ng.
Higepiyo. It's about a chick with a mustache. That's all I should have to say to interest you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-x57MUD3Yk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-x57MUD3Yk)

I haven't watched really anything but Kimi ni Todoke from time to time but you know what should be subbed in a few days? FREAKING DURARA! HOLY CRAP I'M SO PUMPED!

Denpa Teki na Kanojo is an OVA duo. I won't say two-parter, as only the characters are the same. I like it. I think my wife would like it too. I just won't place any bets on that. lol Anyway, it's detective fiction, and that is about all the spoilage I'm going to give on it. Um, and that it is for adults, not Conan fans. No one goes all chibi ever here.

 Ladies versus Butlers! 1
 Hatsukoi Limited Special
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu 1
Dance in the Vampire Bund

The above are ones I am planning to watch at least the first episodes to see if I really wanna go there. I dunno. Anyone seen these yet?

Ladies vs. Butlers was so terrible. It's really predictable, then again I'm just tired of the generic fan service harem anime.

I got all those, but have been trying to sort through Macross 7. I dunno, but I can't stop now! Nooooooooooo! lol Only 20 some episodes and one movie to go!. Or was there more. Man, that was one big file. The only thing I have to really complain about is the number of songs, too few. I suppose this would not seem as maddening as it does to me now, if I had watched the series at the rate of one episode per week, instead of however many i can cram into the time I have available.

I did watch Dance in the Vampire Bund. It seems somewhat interesting, but at only one episode viewed, I can't give a definitive opinion as to how I feel about this show. But, if you liked Speed Grapher, you may like this. And if you don't you can write about how wrong I was. lol Sorry it's been a while since I saw Speed Grapher.

Anyway, I'll probably continue with this series, until I feel as if I am forcing myself to watch it, or it ends, whichever comes first.

Durarara!! is amazing.

Go watch it everyone. It's got gangs and headless motorcycle cat women.
Oh, and Hanamaru Kindergarten is terrible. It's like Kodomo no Jikan, which is also terrible, in most everything except that doesn't have gratuitous amounts of pedophile fanservice.

K-ON!
Gloriously funny, bits of fanservice, good plotline, likeable characters...
It's pretty good.

I take it you haven't gotten the OSTs yet.
They have more Fire Bomber than you can shake a stick at.

Simoun, a sometimes funny, sometimes heart-breaking yuri series. I love the concept it introduces of being able to choose your gender, and how the plot isn't completely about the romance in the story. It's also pretty cool if you like a dash of mecha in your romance/drama.

It's really sweet, and emotional, and funny, and homg, watch it.

Hmm, yeah, they could have done with giving male characters male voice actors, but it's pretty interesting to watch an anime with an all-female voice cast. I happen to like yuri, so I can't agree with you there, but I'm sure you have your reasons for disliking it. You don't have to share them if you don't want to. = 3

I sort of remember Simoun. But I guess it didn't do enough for me. Maybe it was the way they organized their military, that left me cold. Poorly run military organizations that somehow seem to win anyway, or devastatingly wipe out the opposition every time, just ruins my willing suspension of disbelief. Other than that I really wanted to know how it ended.

But I liked Vandread a whole lot better! I guess that maybe you would call it yaoi/yuri. As both genders are at war with the other! But I guess it would be a shounen adventure. It has a little boing, but really doesn't seem to me to be totally oriented to fanservice. Well I bought the series anyway. Have watched it a time or two afterwards. Not enough to memorize but...

I saw the Macross 7 OSTs. I sort of lef tit running as I cooked my breakfast one day. I didn't seem to miss much though. Maybe the one with Mylene's spoileralert maybe I'll get back to that one. Later.

Would it be called foiled yuri say from A Certain Scientific Railgun?

Just finished watching Baccano! Loved this series a lot! There were so many characters to love in it, both good & bad. Was hard to pick a favorite for me honestly...they were all so awsome...but if I were to pick, its between Firo, Ladd Russo, & Claire Stanfield/Vino/Rail Tracer. Story was awsome too...loved how they did the opening & ending to it...leave it to your imagination! I want some Grand Panacea!!

I FINALLY made it almost to the end of Tsubasa, I have about 8 eps left, then the movie and I think there's ovas? I kept starting then stopping cause I thought they would be in that first world forever. Love the music, very much like .hack's.

Ontop of that I'm watching Loveless, Shugo Chara (which is weird but an AMV made me wanna watch all of it), Higarashi no Eden, and I got Kaleido Star next on my netflix list.

I'm debating on FMA Brotherhood.... :/ I LOVE the anime series, so a remake of it seems... pointless to me, and yes I know it's closer to the manga but I never read the manga, and I love the original anime series. But my friend pointed out that alot of people will be talking about it a K-con, and I don't wanna feel left out.

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo. this anime is so the bomb! the patterns on the hair and clothes makes the whole thing look like an acid trip! XD and the story is good too. its only 6 disks long but you all should check it out!

I've heard good things about that one.

Should we make another thread for anime you are watching, but not exactly loving, but just haven't thrown it away yet? I'd put Dears in that category. I think I like watching anime that would be called bildungsroman were we in literature class. Stories that mainly center about growth. So even if they are not good anime, I still watch them.

Tatakau Shisho-Book of Bantorra is a new one and came out in Japan like in September. It is pretty great and describes magic very well. It is based with the legend of the 3 gods from ZELDA OCARINA OF TIME except for one God. Magical books. It is great.

OKay, I saw the second episode today before going to work. Either I am viewing from a different sub group, probably. BUt the animation seems to be very goo and highly detailed. As in the key animations are pieces of art, instead of simple backgrounds.

I've only seen one Durarara! so far. Looks good also.

I wish I could recommend Something no Qwaser. BUt... you either get too much ecchi, or it is censored and you have shots of the sunset when you should be seeing something else, which makes it like watching the radio. But then I can't say that it strikes me as terribly original either.

I've now watched 3 of the Durarara episodes, and I think it's good, but not a masterpiece. I think some of my lack of love for the series is due to FLCL and Paranoia Agent being much better to me, while being somewhat in a similar genre.

Don't get me wrong, I am going to watch all of the episodes. I like it well enough. I just don't see myself doing more than renting this series at a later date.

So far the only ones I am close to thinking of buying from this season's selections would be A Certain Scientific Railgun,  and Kimi ni Todoke. And who knows I may be crazy enough to buy Oomamori Himari, or at least rent it from my Netflix queue.

I'm watching Evangelion. I have seen the beginning and I saw "End of Evangelion" but I haven't seen it all so I started watching it....and I must say, it starts off like any other mech anime and then develops this psychological plot in the middle/end. I haven't gotten to that point just yet but I know "End of Evangelion" is really messed up and a little hard to follow (could be because I haven't seen the rest of the series) but the first 11 episodes (where I am at now) are easy to follow and are a lot like any other anime. Like there is some psychological issues but it doesn't really address them (in this case it just doesn't address them YET). For example, the relationship between Shinji and his dad. I have seen similar relationships in anime but they just kinda want you to deal with it and not think of it any further than that.

I can see that the pot is about to be stirred though. I can see the issues developing, but I think if someone was watching this series and didn't know anything about it they would be quite shocked at the way things turn out x.x

I think next on my list is to rewatch Outlaw Star. I have it all on DVD and when I did see it, it was on Cartoon Network so a lot was cut out, including a whole episode. I also want to finish Gurren Lagann sometime and I probably need to download Brotherhood before I am done with college and lose my file sharing program, though I am sure I can find it....I actually know the site to torrent it >_>

So there is a lot on my plate XD

I just recently saw the uncut version of Outlaw Star after not seeing the series since back when it was on Cartoon Network, and I absolutely loved it. The whole added episode was awesome, and the show is overall more enjoyable unedited. =]

I had to go through a couple of series that more or less were just killing me to watch. It wasn't that they were bad, just so full og angst, I could hardly breathe. phew, all better now. One of those was Rumbling Hearts. Then I watched Triangle Blu, and found it to be a more "adult" version of the former. lol

What I just watched and finished that I am loving now was Sol Bianca. Movie quality animation in an OVA series of 6 episodes. Guess they didn't feel as if they could put out a 3 hour movie, so chop it up and call it a series. It was refreshing after so much angst and cosplay fodder, (Ragnarok).

CLANNAD <3

I want to check out Simoun some time.

Just finished Air Gear! The ending was pretty anticlimatic so I think I'll start reading the manga but overall it was a pretty sweet, as in sick, show- despite irregular animation, an absurd dub, and an incoherent plot I enjoyed it. If only ATs were real *A*

Durarara is sweeeeet. =]

DURARARA!! is absolutely the best new anime happening, and keeps getting better! Hey, wait, she's not a cat. Or maybe she is... who knows what will happen next minute in this series? btw the motorcycle's really a horse...

I love the Russian sushi place and the Dollars gang and the crazy blond guy with a temper... and the strange manipulative guy on the roof and the online blogging...  and the weird corporate experimental lab kidnapping strays off the streets... and the protagonist innocent country kid and his buddy at the heart of the action! AND the OP and ED are perfect!

DURARARA!! filled my desire for an anime that communicates the insanity and appeal of modern Japanese pop culture... but it also jacked up my obsession about wanting to go back to Japan.

BTW, SUMMER WARS is finally out, with two quality subs; don't miss it either! Hope it comes to movie theaters here.

Also watching: CROSS GAME, KIMI NI TODOKE. Waiting to marathon FMA Brotherhood when it's complete. And I just started rewatching RUROUNI KENSHIN. The Samurai X OVA Trust/Betrayal are my favorite anime of all time, but I never rewatched the TV series except for a few favorite eps. (So much pointless filler... I've counted nine in first 27 eps... and of course, all of 63 to 95. Will stop at 62.)

I just watched Yokuzakura Quartet. I liked it. And I think they kept it nice and short without drawing it out to be longer than necessary. The only thing wrong would be that I saw an over compressed version.

Maybe I'll have to learn more Japanese, so that the titles have some meaning to me other than a random mish-mash of vowels and consanants, which are of no mnemonic use to me.

Railgun ended! Wahhhhhhhhh! :'( :'( :'(

BOBOBO-BOBO-BOBOBO!

I like the classic anime's! These new ones can suck it.  There's only a few new ones that are good.

SHONEN JUMP series are my favorite.

And anything involving the youth fullfilling there dreams...   Like a pokemon master.. yeah..

I guess you much love Tegami Bachi.

I finally got started watching Sora no Woto. So far I'm just eating it up. I really like the viewpoint the creators took in looking at war. Even if it strikes me that anime writers seem as if it's WWI, which Japan never took part, having just had a war with Russia in 1906. (got started a little early I guess) It isn't quite the same humor as in Pumpkin Scissors, I think they are taking things a little more seriously.

I like both the series of the previous paragraph, but I guess I find the story of SnW more plausible than in PS. But then I wish there was a second season to PK all the same anyway. There was a lot of untold story there. I hope the same fate does not apply to SnW.

Catchy OP song though. hack hack

I just finished Rec. It was pretty good. It even has place number 159 on AnimeNfo's list of top 200 anime.

I am starting on  >:( I hate Japanese only names, they are so much harder for me to remember,, kind of like remembering new passwords! Anyway, its the one with Tenchi Muyo's 1/2 brother. Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari, good thing I remembered where I saw it! Anyway, it's up to snuff with the rest of Tenchi universe stuff.

Also, am in the middle of Gad Guard. I can't say I'm loving it, but I do love the OP song, Boomerang Boogie! But then I have always loved Boogie Woogie music. Which reminds me of a random fact.

I liked it enough to burn through all the episodes as fast as I could. But it isn't one to leave a lasting impression on me. That or I am just watching too many different anime right now. lol

I finished the 11th episode, and have to wait until someone puts out number 12 to complete the series of Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari. This is an "If you liked Tenchi Muyo; you'll love this." kind of show. I think they thought out their universe a bit before they started making the show. It's harem, but I can understand a bit better as to why, than I could for Tenchi. PM me if you want the spoilers, or to bash me for sexism, and we can discuss why I say that.

Finished watching Seikirei. Not too overly gratuitous fanservice. It felt compressed however. As if they thought they had 26 episodes to work with, and got cut short to 11, and a 10 minute OVA. The story wasn't quite finished, but it left at where you can probably guess what happens, so it doesn't suffer that horribly.

Of this Spring's new shows, I like the Ichiban Demon Lord, and the President is a Maid the most. They intrigue me as I wonder what happens next.

Can't help you. :(

The latest anime I finished was Maria + Holic. Thought it was quite funny, but some scenes dragged out for far too long, which I guess was the point since it was making fun of Yuri fanatics. Next up, I plan on taking down Bokurano, Excel Saga,  or Hellsing. Probably Hellsing though since it's kind of one of the big names.

Fairly. The plotline is a bit sucky at points, but it is overall a fairly good show to watch.

I just finished with Gunslinger Girl. I cried happy tears of sadness all over it.
I'm slowly getting through Revolutionary Girl Utena.
Durarara is rocking as usual.

All Purpose Cultural Catgirl Nuku Nuku OVA/TV/Dash. Y'know, it took me way too long to watch these.
I've also been enjoying Mobile Suit Gundam: Unicorn, though it's doubtful I'll buy the next volume until I can get the entire series as a boxed set. I'm already tired of paying $40+ for a Blue-Ray with only one episode and no bonus features.

Than there's Mahromatic. Took me too long to start watching this one as well, but I've been enjoying it.

If you watch Excel Saga make sure to watch it in Japanese with subtitles.  The English dub will have you running out of the room screaming SHUT HER UP! before the end of the first episode.

Hellsing or Hellsing Ultimate?  Ultimate is arguably the better one, but I still don't know about the way the plot is going.  I've never read the manga, so I can't tell you which is closer to the original story.

All Purpose Cultural Catgirl Nuku Nuku OVA/TV/Dash. Y'know, it took me way too long to watch these.

Nuku-Nuku TV made me barf.  I just couldn't stand what they did to the show.  Dash was OK, but seemed sort of indecisive.  Like they didn't know what to do with it.  It also didn't have the comedy elements that made the OVA so fun to watch.  All in all the original OVA was the best of all.

Mahoromatic rocks!  A similar show you might enjoy is Birdy the Mighty - Decode  It has a very similar feel to it, despite the fact that the show isn't anything like Mahoromatic.  Give it a try, I think you will be hooked.   ;D

I've been watching Ghost Slayers Ayashi the past couple of days. THe first couple of episodes I was afraid I was watching monster movie of the week, but it has gotten better than that. Although for some reason Godzilla keeps popping up in my head at some point while watching this series. I can see why some people love it, and others hate it.

I watched House of Five Leaves before work today. That looks to be good. I like the story so far, even if people are not the most attractive people in this series. The anti-bishounen anime?

I guess I'll muddle through another couple of episodes of Seto no Hanayome before bed tonight.

Oh dear gods... I finished Hellsing a while back as evidenced by my avatar, and so I began on Excel Saga watching the sub as suggested, however, no episodes past 9 are subbed on YouTube, so I noticed an episode 10 dub and figured, "it can't be that bad!" Oh hell was I wrong. That was by far the worst dub I've heard, and that includes fansubs. I couldn't even listen to it for more than half of the first part. Dear gods, I reiterate was has been said, watch the sub of Excel Saga not the dub, no matter much Vic Mignogna there is in episode 10.

On another note, Hellsing is very good. I thoroughly enjoyed it, although I enjoy any vampire stories that promote them to be contrary to everything that is Twilight.

Yeah,  Jessica Calvello does a great job as Excel, maybe to good.  They told her to be as annoying and whiny as the Japanese VA and she did her best!  She did so good that most of us can't stand to listen to her for more than 10 minutes!   ;D

You watch your anime on YouTube!   :o   You need to learn about torrents, and fansubbing.  There are also some direct download sites that are free.  PM me if you want to know more.   ;D

As soon as I'm better and on my laptop and all well, I'll be all over the place finishing up Excel Saga. The new shows are starting to come out now.  I have a few that look like real winners.
K-On!! season two has started!  So far I liked season one more.  I don't really like the new OP very much.  I have hopes that it will get better.
Senkou no Night Raid looks like it will be very interesting.  I am waiting to see how it will turn out.
Kaichou wa Maid-sama! also looks like a winner.  I like the characters so far.
Working!! is different.  I think it may get better.  I am waiting to see where they go with it.
Angel Beats! is another interesting show.  Similar to Haruhi or Railgun in the overall feel of the show.
Arakawa Under the Bridge is just plain strange.  I'm not sure I actually like it.  It falls in that Excel saga; FLCL; Kemeko Deluxe zone of weirdness.
Mayoi Neko Overrun!, B Gata H Kei, and KissXSis (2010) are the fanservice shows for this time around.  None are as bad as Ladies vs Butlers, but they still are all for the adult viewers of my Anime Friday group.
For the younger viewers we have three new shows.  HEROMAN, Hime Chen! Otogi Chikku Idol Lilpri, and Jewelpet Tinkle.

I think that Durarara is one of those series that hadn't completely planned on going beyond a dozen episodes, but had a continuing thread going forward just in case they were renewed. I say this because I thought the show was done after #12, and then 13 comes rolling along. What I had been thinking of as the main story seemed to be concluded in 12. And if the show died there, I would have been all right with it. Wanting more, but...you know. Glad I was wrong.

Very true.  I just discovered that FMA Brotherhood is now playing on Adult Swim.  :o  I thought they were still re-running the old series.  Grr..   >:(   Still quite a ways behind the fansubs (of course) but I'm surprised at how far along it already is, considering they are all dubbed!  Didn't waste any time on this one!

Now if they would just continue Bleach where they left off.  No instead they started over again!   >:(  >:(  >:(  Yeah, I am going to re-watch 150 episodes.  NOT

MORE AND MORE ARAKAWA~ So good.

This season I also tried out...

K-On! Season 2- It's not that I didn't like the first season...I just felt like I wasted a ton of time when I finished it. I know I can't take another 24 episodes of moe crap so I dropped it.

Working!!- Is the stupidest waste of 30 minutes I've ever spent. It's really generic...and I think I laughed once in the whole episode.

I need to try out Rainbow, but nothing else looks really interesting and jumps out at me this season. I need to catch up on DRRR!! and I've been watching some old anime DVD's that I have. We rewatched FLCL the other night (dubbed, first time in awhile I've watched anime in english. They just did a stellar job on that one.) and I watched all of the Nurse Witch Komugi OVA's last night. I'm trying to decide what I should pick up next. Either re-watch Escaflowne or try to get through Shaman King. I think the latter may be more enjoyable in manga format.

Anyone else check out Tatami Galaxy? Do you speed read too? lol Good grief the subs fly by, but then the protagonist must be trying to become an auctioneer or something. I like it, cool story, and cool animation. But I better be quicker with the pause click on my mouse, if I ever want to try to understand it, or at least not wonder wha' happen'?

Senkou no Night Raid has been interesting, in a Zipang sort of way. It makes me wonder if Stan Lee has been spending too much time in Japan though. lol

I think Mayoi Neko Overrun may have lost me as an audience member. It has become overly formulaic. And the title appears to have less and less to do with the actual show. Maybe is should be called Sunny and Tsudere.

Ookiku Furikabutte: Natsu no Taikai-hen I'm not a baseball fan. But this show has me interested, at least in the game being played in the show. I certainly know more as to why you do certain things at certain times more now. And it is much easier to take than the color analyst on televised games. And lucky me, the show hasn't felt the need to explain a pitcher's ERA, (Earned Run Average), and how to calculate it.

I have been totally absorbed watching FMA Brotherhood the past couple days.

It's almost like watching something completely different from the first series. It seems to move things along so much more rapidly than before. I'm saying to myself as watching, wow, didn't this happen in the other at like episode 30-something?

After this I am going to have to re-watch the movie.

Another series I am liking is Naburi no Ou. Take a slice of life high school drama, and replace angst with indifference. lol

Nabari had a well thought out ending.

I just watched the first two episodes of Valkyria Chronicles. I want more! It reminds me of Sora no Woto, and Sacred Blacksmith, but perhaps a bit better. THe characters are more realistic to me.

I found myself watching the clouds in the show a couple of times. I think the creators wanted that. THey looked god, and aided in the emotional set-up.

Episode 12 of Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari is out now! WOnder how long until 13.

I found the English sub file for Episode 13 of Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari and watched the JRAW episode with it.  The sub was terrible!   :P   Very literal and Babble Fishy.  I got the gist of the story though.  Still, I definitely will get the Hakubi sub when it comes out.   ;D

Maybe Hakubi can get 13 out sooner, as he lost his job. Trained his own replacement, he says. That's gotta suck.

I really should watch it, I've heard good things about it.
Though by what you're saying, I assume Clannad is sort of similar in a way to Kanon?

I would say, more or less the same genre, but they are not the same story. They are just both very very good, and deeply emotionally touching. 5 stars from me on my Netflix rating.

There are no foxes in Clannad. Just starfish. lol

I see. I'll have to check it out than.
Though I don't know if I'll be able to handle any more of it making me all teary-eyed. Ugh, I'm getting really tired of that. :P
But I guess that is a sign of a good series... drawing you in, being good enough to make you emotional about it. Making me feel like a little wuss rather than a manly man. XD

@ Wuntvor; Valkyria isn't making me cry...yet... Maybe I read too much military sci-fi, or my being a veteran, dunno. REally if anything it's reminding me of Union generals during the civil war. Now all we need is general Hooker to bring his women along, eh? lol

D. GRay-Man, well, Netflix didn't send me disc one. I have everything else they have but not number one. Sometimes that company can be real annoying.

I must be getting a little more used to common Japanese words, because sometimes I am wondering why the translator chose certain words over others. I think I like getting the more literal translations, rather than the American or Anglicized euphemisms.

Right now, I'm reading Eureka 7. It's pretty awesome so far, I have to say. It's definitely up there with my favorites. I'm also re-watching Cowboy Bebop and Case Closed. Moving on to Ghost in the Shell (Laughing man, I'm thinking) after I'm through with those.

I had to go to the Anime that made me cry thread to remember which episodes it was.  Valkyria Chronicles 18 & 19.  In episode 18, when Rosie starts to sing, I almost cried.  In episode 19, I cried with Welkin.  I am such a softie.   :'(  You may not have gotten this far yet.

Ah yeah, Isara.

A few episodes later when Landsaatz did what he did, I wasn't sad, more furious. Then it all gets explained why he did such an insane thing the next episode. whew.

Sometimes I just have a hard time with Japanese psychology. They do things Americans and most everyone else would never think about for a moment.

I also watched Black Blood Brothers over the last few days. That was good. Not a masterpiece, but it was good. I think it's own internal story logic was more consistent than some. It could have gone to 26 episodes instead of closing out at 12.

Arakawa: Under the bridge. I had only watched like 2 ep's before but since I'm not in school I started it again. AND OH MY GOD I LOVE IT.

And I hope to start watching Inazuma Eleven soon. Matsuno/max is so freaking adorable you have no idea.

I forgot how much I love Battle Angel Alita and I went and rewatched it. FFFFFF- So good. I also watched Afro Samurai, I loved the animation which is enough to pull me through a series (Animation student, I'm bound to be won over just by that) the story sucked though :\. But if you are looking for something with stellar animation and a really awesome soundtrack I'd say go for it.

And agreeing with Tofu, Arakawa keeps getting better and better.

Next on my list is Blue Submarine No. 6 (rewatching but <333333), Fist of the North Star, or Paprika.

I finally got Dennou Coil. I am only through episode 6. But I think this is one show for the whole family, so far. I makes me think what an anime series would be like if Miyazaki did a series instead of a feature length film. It hasn't been licensed, yet. By now I doubt it ever will.

Ended up watching an anime movie called Brave Story. It was pretty cute and sad. I'd recommend it and I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone talk about it before.

I also started watching The Tatami Galaxy and MAN, WHY HAVE I NOT HEARD OF THIS? It's super, super interesting. I'm not really sure what's going on in it at the moment though.

Someone has it on CR or something like that, so I haven't been picking it up. I only saw the first episode, but I liked it. I do want to see more. But the second episode I saw wasn't given the love, as a different group did it, just ripped off CR I think. You really have to speed read, or know Japanese very well to get through the rapid fire monologues, which to me are a big part of the charm of this series.

Lately, I've been seeing .ass scripts available for this series. Too bad I don't know how to deal with them. Anyone know how to do this?
Ooh, new topic!?! nah.

Yep.  That's the plan.  Watched it last night.  I agree, Brave Story (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=2879) is a great film.  The latest in my list of films I never heard of before.  I need to find a way to list just the movies on AniDB.  It would still be a lot of movies, but the list might be manageable.

The other movies or OAV series we have watched are:

Yobi ~ The Five-Tailed Fox (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=5303)
Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=6299)
Origin ~ Spirit of the Past (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=3385)
TO ~ A Space Fantasy (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=7185)
Summer Wars (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=6249)
Summer Days with Coo (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=5056)
Time of Eve (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=5132)

So have you heard of any of them?

Hey Wuntvor, Tales of Vesperia-First Strike. It's not quite 2 hours long. I haven't started watching it yet. I'll have to see if I feel like I am going to be awake long enough to watch it tonight.

Which reminds me, I doubt very much to be in attendance this Friday. But I think I get to go the second and the ninth.

I haven't been able to make myself watch the rest of School Days, yet. I have been tempted to watch maybe the last episode, see if I could do the ones I'd be missing afterward.

I've started watching D. Gray Man this past weekend. I can't get behind it the way some here in the forums have been. It's not a bad anime, but it is not one of my more favorite. I think in large part as it is episodic, and not so much progress of the characters has taken place in the first 14 or so episodes.

Character development can be a very scary place for TV show creators, let alone anime makers. The show may lost its path, and go off on a completely different direction that they had originally intended. Or it may suffer from having too many guest stars, and not pay enough attention to the core cast of characters causing viewers lose interest. Some shows have this problem, but few recover.

This series gives characters progress in dribs and drabs. In order to maintain viewership, and avoid the aforementioned pitfalls.

It is not a bad show. You may well enjoy it more than I.

Tales of Vesperia-First Strike was very good. I wonder when the second one will come out. Looks to be an occasional thing; which isn't terribly surprising as it's so long. But I am assuming there is more, as at the end, it looked like a trailer of what's to come in the credits. I recommend this one.

Also, I see Banner of the Stars has a third OVA. Someone liked it so much they have put it out again. Can't wait to go home and get it started.

Which makes me wonder if Ookiku 12 will be finished by then.

...Higurashi (English: When They Cry)
              Lately, I have been really into ultra violent anime (like Elfen Lied) and this is no exception. The show details the strange and bloody events of 1982, where a young man, Keiichi, moves to the rural village of Hinamizawa, famous for its cotton drifting festival. He befriends a group of seemingly innocent girls, who form a club with him. While it sound like your average Lucky Star or Haruhi Suzimiya, things take a twisted turn when a 5 year old curse is about to take another villager. keiichi's young friends suddenly show their true, demonic colors.
              The show is split into many arcs, that each detail a different alternate of the story. While at first very confusing, Higurashi is delectably violent, with a chilling story more frightening than any anime I've ever seen.

Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne. This is great thriller/mystery/sci-fi/film noir material. Kind of like Denpa Teki no Kanojo, only more otherworldly, sort of. I highly recommend this OVA series.

I think I saw Higurashi. It's the one that three episodes into it, it looks like the end, but.................................................................News Flash: it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings

Yeah, they're older, but I've been watching a lot of older series lately. I've got some catching up to do as I used to pretty much only focus on new series. :P

Indeed I did. Especially when the Gratan was hit by Gargoyle's airship I was expecting Grandis, Hanson and Sanson to shout "we're blasting off again!" But, unfortunately, they didn't. Too bad, too, I would've laughed hard at that. :P

As for the movie... yeah, I've heard bad things about it. I'll probably end up watching it anyway... It came with the set of DVDs, might as well watch it. I've watched some really, really bad movies lately anyway (not all anime) so I might as well continue the cycle.

...On a similar note I've been inspired to do a Gargoyle cosplay next year. That is if I can find a red suit with matching pants, I really don't feel like sewing one together, not after my current outfit. Heh.

So far of the summer series, most have been good enough to watch.
Good ones, or so I think;
Seitokai Yakuindomo (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=7532),
Asobi ni Iku yo! (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=7400)
Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=7381)
Amagami SS (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=7506)
 Nurarihyon no Mago (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=7404)
Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=7435)
Those are the ones I like and can admit to liking them.
Sekirei: Pure Engagement (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=6793) is one I am not sure if I could say I liked it to my um wife, say. yah. sigh
And Shiki (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=7268) is an anime I am yet to have a strong opinion one way or another. There are some things for me to like, and others for me to not care. Going to continue watching to see if I like it or not.

Other than that, i need to somehow catch up with K-On! season 2. I like the first 14 episode of the series a lot so far. I thought it was going to be too dumb.

I'm wondering if now that the Anime is out they'll continue with the manga, they stopped consistently adding chapters back in late 08  early 09. Then when they would put out new stuff it was almost always filler. I stopped reading after chapter 23.

Haven't had a chance to fully sit down and watch the anime, though from what i've seen, it seems to have more Pantsu and Fan service then the manga.

I'm really into it, I'm not a big fan of this type of anime genre, like Higurahi no Naka Koro Ni, I couldn't get into that, but I am really like this one.

I have acquired a series I didn't have yet, for some unknown reason.  I found out about it while looking at the Adult Swim lineup.  The series I am talking about is Kekkaishi (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=4574).  I did have the first 1 hour episode, but for some reason I never got any more of the series.   :o   I watched the first 8 episodes last night.  I really enjoy this series.  It reminds me of Shonen Onmyouji, InuYasha, and Ranma.  If you like those shows you should definitely look into this one.  I'll probably show a few episodes this week during my Anime Friday.

I've been watching Strike Witches. I like the story, but the upskirt shots tell me to never let my wife see this.

Or any FBI agent. (^_~)

It's really sad when the fanservice gets in the way of a good story (like Mahoromatic or Negima!)... but with that one, it got so blatant and constant that the full title should have been "Strike Witches: A Gynecologist's Perspective".

Yeah, they are kinda birds of a feather. It's true that Sky Girls (TV, not OVA) doesn't go nearly as far overboard on the fanservice as Strike Crotches... but that's an extremely low standard to set. (^_~)

I can't help it, though. I have a weakness for the sound of Kawasumi Ayako's voice (Otoha's seiyuu). And Sky Girls does make the wince-worthy closeups blessedly short.

Aren't Sky Girls pre-pubescent? I'd prefer ecchi to be biblically old enough, at least.

Officially, they're 15-17. Yes, seriously.   ::)

Except for Elise (I think that was the bratty nekomimikko's name), the characters do come off as being that level of maturity. Appearance-wise, though, you're right - Otoha and Elise look pre-pubescent, especially in promo shots. But in the series itself, they look the same age as or maybe a little older than Strike Pantsu.

For that matter, they're usually wearing clothes, the suits leave something to the imagination, and the camera spends most of its time focused on their faces rather than their, um... *cough* hips.

Gah. I can't believe I'm defending Sky Lolis now.  :P  It does commit the same sins, just not as brazenly or in as vast a quantity.

*wanders off to vigorously scrub his brain with soap and water*

It's just amazing what forum threads make a man do.

Well, I finished the first 12 episodes of Strike Pantsu Witches. Guess I'll have to watch the second season, to know what happens with the unpronounceable aliens.

But tonight I may go for more age appropriate ecchi. High School of the Dead or HOTD as it's written in many forums, and in the anime itself. You know they are older, they don't wear animals on their pantsu.

And I think I have a new Seitokai Yakuindomo, and Occult Gakuen. I guess these three are what I consider more interesting of the summer season.

I just started watching Kekkaishi. It's pretty good for a shounen action anime. It seems to have a well developed mythos. I assume it is more Buddhist based as opposed to Shinto based. I can just see little kids running around going ketz, metz and destroying their opponents. But really it seems to be aimed at a somewhat older audience than many shounen anime.

Oh, and even though i dont have much time with good enough wifi to watch every episode so far, I'm trying to keep up with Kuroshitsuhi II. The first series is one of my all time favorites, so i should prolly bump this season up in my list of priorities.

Ghost Hound. I'm giving this a 5 star on my Netflix rating. I guess there is not one thing Shirow Masumune has done that I don't love.

XXXHolic was good, but too short a series to really delve into the characters. But then it would have gone way too far ahead of the manga, and you can guess what would have been going on if they dared to do that. sigh.

Other than that Bamboo Blade and Chrome Shelled Regios were entertaining, but not ones I love.

I swear, K-On! was made as a secret plot to get me to watch anime.

It's got everything I like.  Literally everything.  Except for video games but I've got video games for video games.

I wish I was a lady so I could cosplay as Mugi with my sexy Roland Keytar (she plays a Roland Keytar...I don't have enough for a Korg keystation though :<) and BLOW PEOPLES' MINDS.

I'll have to look to see if Netflix has Seto Hanayome aka My Bride is a Mermaid. I would really like to know what is actually said in the last two episodes. Hey Mom did some of the worst subs I have yet seen.

I kind of fell off K-On! after season two episode 16. It just got deja vu all over again for me.

Tofu, better go buy Portland Music then.

I started watching Mezzo today, which I really am enjoying. It's nothing life-changing or uber-serious, but it is well-animated (exceeding my standards, anyway) and has that perfect combination of action and comedy. I just like how fun it is, it's memorable just for that, if nothing else.

Don't blitz through Katanagatari. It's deserves better than that. Sit back and enjoy the style of the animation.

HOTD may be really fanservice oriented, but it's still a cool story. I am enjoying it immensely.

Tofu, if that could happen I would have bought it when my account hit $24 last week!

Hanamaru, you too? Seems like you can't trust nobody in this show, sort of. I'm waiting for Abe sensei to find out she is his mother, for real. And that he was raised by an entertainment agent, or something like that.

I got the volume two discs to Bamboo Blade recently. I was tempted to just sned them back, but decided, after I had watched all the most recent episodes of HOTD, Mago, Maid sama, etc, why not watch an episode. Well, about two hours later, and time to get ready for work, I finally stopped watching it. The story has really picked up, and gotten me engaged.

The main reason I'm watching it is because our anime club is wanting to show it for our weekly showings, but there have been a couple of moments here & there that may cause us to not show an episode, or censor something,... (You'd think a COLLEGE wouldn't care so much about that sort of thing...)

I'm watching, but not loving Texhnolyze. I would say that they are trying to be too clever in their minimalist approach to storytelling. In a way it's kind of like watching a slide show, you only get information intermittently. I'm wondering if I really want to do this to moyself, considering it has 6 discs total, and 5 to go. Maybe it's for women???

Well all of the new shows are coming out, so I thought I would go ahead and have another First Episode Theater this week.  The new shows of interest are:

Shinrei Tantei Yakumo -  This looks like a real winner.  Makes me think of Death Note for some reason.  The main character has a special eye that allows him to see ghost and communicate with them.  He uses this ability to help the local police track down murderers.  I await the next episode with eager anticipation.

Otome Youkai Zakuro – Another winner.  It seems that the military and the demons have decided to try working together.  They team up three military men with four demon girls (two of the demons are a twin sister team).  There is a small problem though.  One of the men is scared to death of demons, and his demon partner makes me think of Akane from Ranma.  Is there any way this team can work?  It is sort of like Host Club meets InuYasha.  It’s a keeper

Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai – This translates to “My Little Sister Can`t Be This Cute”.  It is another one of those anime that Japan is famous for, totally far fetched, silly, and just plain wrong.  I can’t wait till the next episode.  I don’t want to spoil it for you by telling you about it.

Iron Man – This one is pretty self explanatory.  Based off of Stan Lee’s Marvel Super hero character Iron Man.  If you like your Marvel comics, you should like this show.

Bakuman -  The main character is a young high school student who likes to draw.  His Uncle was a Manga artist who hit it big with one a series that later became an anime.  Unfortunately his later works weren’t as successful.  Although he would like to become a manga artist the fate of his uncle lies heavy on him.  He accidently leaves his sketchbook and notes at school and goes back for them.  The school genius is looking through his notebook.  The genius tells him he would like to make a manga.  He will right it and the artist will draw it.  He also informs him that the girl he has a crush on wants to become a VA.  Later he confesses to the girl and they agree that if he becomes a successful manga artist, and she becomes a successful VA, they will marry.  Twisted story plot, but an interesting show.  I like it.

Super Robot Taisen OG: The Inspector -  This is a sequel.  I have not downloaded the original series, and I am not sure if I will.  This is a definite mecha war fighting anime.  We can decide if we want to continue with it.

Adult only viewing

Yosuga no Sora -  This one is based off of an ero harem style game.  It also includes brother sister love.  The overall style is similar to shows like Kanon, Clannad, and Air.  Nudity, Adult Themes.

Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls – We saw the Pre-Airing of this episode, but now the unedited version is out.  This one made us all think of Toradora, because it uses the same voice cast, and casts them in similar roles.  Alternate universe WWII super powered Samurai women, or something like that.   Panty, Boing, Brief Nudity, Adult themes.

Sora No Otoshimono Forte -  Well the Angels Ikaros and Nymph are back, and it looks like another Angel is going to be joining the party.  Get ready for some more crazy and perverted antics in this sequel.  Nudity, Adult themes, and humor.

Star Driver Kagayaki no Takuto -  This one makes me think of Mia Hime.  Students in a school on an island with an underground alien facility with super robots.  Brief Nudity.

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt – This one looks like something you would see on CN.  Reminds me of PowerPuff Girls or Invader Zim.  Of course the subject matter is closer to Ren & Stimpy, or Aqua Teen Hunger Force.  Two (fallen) Angels named Panty and Stocking help the Reverend Garter Belt fight against the evil taking over the city so they can earn Heaven Cents.  Will the city survive?  Adult themes and humor.

MM! – I am not sure about this one.  It is a comedy about a schoolboy  who is a masochist.  Who wants to try to cure himself and confess to the girl he likes.  He goes to a school counseling group for help.  Unfortunately the leader of the counseling group has heard about him and she decides the best way to cure him is to beat it out of him.  Sort of makes me think of Club to Death Angel Dokuro-chan.

Well that’s the start anyway.  More may be out by Friday.

I also have a couple of new movies we can watch some time:

Gekijouban Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works – Yeah!  The Fate/Stay Night Movie is finally out!

Eiga Layton Kyouju to Eien no Utahime – Based off of the popular Nintendo DS Professor Layton puzzle games, this movie brings the characters of the archeologist Layton and his trusty assistant Luke to the big screen to allow fans to enjoy more of the same.

I hope to see you all this Friday at 7:00PM for another round of fun.   ;D

I'm sure anime purists will probably be screaming in indignation at this one ("That's American! It's not an anime desu!"), but I've been rewatching Avatar: The Last Airbender, and goddamn, if that isn't one of the best shows ever made, live action or animated. I've been watching it with my parents, and it's their first time seeing it, my third or fourth on most episodes, and only my second time watching the entire thing through start to finish. In fact, there were two episodes in season two I'd never seen during the original air time, so that was really exciting!

I don't really watch much anime, but I've been considering watching Gurren Lagann, simply because Katie is like "WATCH IT" and I tend to if people say that to me enough. xD

With my unfortunate lack of money I've been watching a lot of anime on demand (thank you Funimation on demand). Currently the two I've been watching a lot of are...

-Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple
-School Rumble

Kenichi has been a blast so far and I've enjoyed it more than I thought I would, albeit I did miss a few of the earlier episodes. It's one that I actually plan to pick up on DVD, so that's got to mean something good, eh? :)

As for School Rumble... While it's pretty funny and I have been enjoying it, I don't think it's anything I'd ever watch again. For me this series feels like a "one-time watch", and after that I probably wouldn't ever touch it again. I've been enjoying it, but I just can't see myself watching it over again in the future.

I finished up Bamboo Blade a few weeks ago. This was another series I fell in love with. I gotta pick it up on DVD...

I bought Kenichi too! I love that rockin' OP music too! One of the best bildungsroman type anime I have yet seen. Excuse my German.

Sora no Manimani. It's even better if you love astronomy. It's good. It's fun. I like it.

I like most of the new season's shows. But there are exceptions. P&S w/G is one of those exceptions. I quit it after less than 5 minutes. I just didn't think it special enough. MM! is one I will continue with so far, but I don't know how much of this I can actively stand.

Star Driver has mecha that look too fru-fru to me. Mecha designed by Fiorucci! Other than that it doesn't seem so bad.

Soredemo something something might be all right. I got a lousy version, so they missed a lot by not having English as their native language. I think gg is doing it now. I re-dll'ed their version. I wonder if the dialog is Kansai Ben dialect, which may explain why so few groups wish to touch this anime. She reminds me of Osaka from Azumanga Daioh in a way.

I think Netflix sent The Third: The Girl With the Blue Eye. I'll let you know.

I'm only just recently getting a chance to watch the Higurashi anime, and i have to say, I'm impressed.
Any show that can open with a gruesome set of baseball bat deaths, then proceed to spend the rest of the episode on school girls playing card games and keep my interest definitely deserved my interest long before now.

I'm finally finishing off Dance in the Vampire Bund. Maybe it isn't exactly your cup of tea, but I like it. Better than The Third, the Girl With the Blue Eye. Not that that's a horrible anime. But...I keep thinking of Desert Punk and Trigun, but without it being either. No Vash, no Sunobozu. No boing.

Actually, I am liking very much most of the new seasons shows. At least I haven't decided to not waste my time on any of them at this point.

Edit;
Okay, the Third, the Girl With the Blue Eye is kind of growing on me. But I just don't have time to do a marathon and finish it off, yet.

There's this new old one coming out now, Strange Dawn. It's from 2000, I think. Anyway, it seems a bit older, by the art style. But it's odd, but maybe interesting. You have two high school girls who get transported to a parallel dimension to become the Great Saviors of the local village upon arrival. Too bad they don't know this. I don't think much will make me rave about this, I mean I hadn't heard of it until now, ya know? But it isn't bad enough to just toss away.

Right now, I've been watching Maison Ikkoku.  My club's advisor recently recommended a show called Mitsudomoe; it sounds very interesting, especially since I think my triplets (if I were to have female triplets) would be like these girls...

Started watching Kemonozume for something to watch when I don't have an episode of Arakawa, Kuragehime, or PSG.

So far so good. One episode in. The style of animation is super awesome (Like that one crazy episode of PSG where the style changed, my favorite one btw. I've known about Kemonozume for awhile, just seeing that was a kicker to finally start it.) And the story is pretty interesting. I can't wait to see how it pans out.

It's REALLY nice to see some interesting animation actually. Even though I like the stories for a lot of the newer shows, I'm getting really tired of Kawaii ugguuuu giant eyes.

I finished Special A.  If you liked Host Club give it a try.  I am really enjoying Kuragehime aka Princess Jellyfish. I highly recommend it to everyone.  I am also intrigued by Bakuman.  Not a bad tutorial for anyone who wants to be a mangaka.  My wife was agreeing with quite a bit of what they talked about, or arguing about it.  "You need to spend hours just drawing lines and curves to get used to a pen, you don't draw figures.  They don't use G pens in the US."  etc, etc.  At least she is watching something.   ;D

Wait, it took until episode 6 before your club started worrying about too much fanservice in Highschool of The Dead, aka HOTD? Really. facepalm. lol It was good, it was hot. I liked it a lot.

I like watching Otome Youkai Zakuro. It set 150 or so years ago. So it's a bit different in the historical type of anime, set later than Tokugawa shogunate period.

Psychic Detective Yakumo just finished off a cool story arc. The writing there was, well it twisted of the plot with the red strong of fate. Way cool, and a bit hard to follow, which made it more engrossing to me.

And for some reason I'm also keeping up with Super Robot Taisen. I don't know why. It's like if it has mecha, it must have continuity problems! Hello?

I think I'm following 9 different series this fall.

Index II is probably my favorite.

Have you seen The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie yet?  You definitely want to see the series first, or you won't understand most of what is going on.  It is also a massive spoiler, so don't watch it if you haven't seen the series first.

I just finished watching a bunch of older anime I have on my drives.  Shows I couldn't remember, or lost interest in.

Ray the Animation - This one is a spin off of BlackJack, about a female doctor with x-ray eyes.
Wagaya no Oinari-sama - A show about a fox spirit living with a Japanese family and protecting the youngest boy.  I enjoyed it.  If you like the InuYasha episodes where InuYasha is in the future with Kagome, then you have an idea of what this show is like.
Shion no Ou - An anime about shougi mixed in with a murder mystery.  A little far fetched, but enjoyable.
Ranma_-_Akumu Shunminko - This one slipped through my radar somehow.  I just love the opening scene!  Ranma, Akane, InuYasha, Kagome, Lum, and Ataru, all together and meeting for the first time.  I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.   ;D

I also watched the first episode of Rio Rainbow Gate.  This is another pantsu boing anime that is just silly.  It will be fun to watch, but not something I would miss.
I also saw the first couple episodes of Starry Sky - It is interesting, but not really gripping.  I'm not really all that impressed.  :-\

I am in the process of watching Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo!.  I am on episode 17.  Even I don't know why I didn't watch this series before.  :P

I also watched the first episode of Dragon Crisis! This show is a definite winner!  It may be surpassed though. I think that Kore wa Zombie desu ka may be even better.  Needless to say both are definite wins for this season.
I also watched the first episode of Level E.  It is good, but not on the level of the other two.
Beelzebub also looks like it will be a winner.  For some reason I kept thinking of Bleach while watching it.  Definite style similarities.
Wolverine also shows some promise.  I'll have to see a few more episodes to really decide.  Japan has an interesting way of handling Marvel comic heroes.
I am looking forward to continuing Kimi ni Todoke for another season.
I also watched the first episode of Infinite Stratos.  It has potential, but feels sort of forced.
Freezing Is a graphic, gore, pantsu, boing, fest.  It also is cropped weird for some reason.  The first episode has the OP and ED in HD and everything else in standard, but it looks like they took the HD and cut the sides off.  WTF  ???
Gosick looks like it will be fun.  We all need more goth lolli detectives.
Yumekui Merry and Puella Magi Madoka Magica just messed with my head.  These shows are going to make my head hurt.
Overall, it has been a good few days.
I'll be having a First Episode Theater during my next Anime Friday.  If you want to see all of these shows, just drop by.

Rating on the Wuntvor scale:
01. Kore wa Zombie desu ka
02. Beelzebub
03. Dragon Crisis!
04. Kimi ni Todoke S2
05. Gosick
06. Infinite Stratos
07. Wolverine
08. Freezing
09. Yumekui Merry
10. Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Who would of thought it?  Wuntvor rating a zombie flick as #1 and a Magical Girl show as #10.  :o

I got around to start watching Inu Yasha.It's a lot better than I thought. I wish I had it subbed. I have to have the sound up too loud to hear the talking over the mood music, so I can't really watch it after work. boo hoo Watch it before work! Watch Genshiken 2 after work!

I wonder if it would help to have everyone put Inu Yasha in their Netflix queue. They are missing most of the discs, and if of a sudden tons of people put it on their list, maybe they would get those holes filled. Yeah, right, as if anything ever gets filled in the Netflix black hole of doom.

Zone of Enders? Was this written by Orson Scott Card? lol Sounds good.

Clockwork Fighters-Hiwou's War, is what I started on last night, after burning through a disc of Genshiken 2. I'm surprised I was able to make myself stop. I really like this series. It is creative, and full of energy. And the main character is a jr. mad scientist mischevious (sic) imp.

Well, it has yet to be licensed, so there wouldn't be any legal issues (for now).  I'd have to present it to the Dir. of Prog., but I doubt she'd go for it,... maybe... ;D
Title: Re: The Anime I am currently watching and loving is...
Post by: @random on January 24, 2011, 04:54:37 pm
Technically, there would be legal issues anyway. Most fansubbers and fans consider it ethical to stop distribution once an anime is licensed, but copyright applies whether it's licensed or not.

(Whether it should is another matter.)
Title: Re: The Anime I am currently watching and loving is...

I'm looking at it from the perspective of college laws.  In our case, we can show things that aren't licensed by an American/Canadian company, unless we've gotten consent from said companies.  We have four, with a fifth saying they want to know about every time we show one of their shows.  I could care less about the ethics of fansubbers.
Title: Re: The Anime I am currently watching and loving is...
Post by: @random on January 24, 2011, 06:28:45 pm
Technically (again), colleges don't have laws. They have policies.

(I know I'm being picky, but confusion of policies with laws seems to be getting quite common, and it disturbs me more than a little.)
Title: Re: The Anime I am currently watching and loving is...

Then let's throw in regulations to the mix.

When it comes down to it, we have so many rules, regulations, laws, ordinances, blah, blah de blahs, that it makes you wonder how we can call ourselves a "free people".

Anyway, I'm liking Hiwou's War aka Clockwork Fighters. It's just a bit too much of a stretch of my imagination, but for its target audience, I think it would do wonders. Make kids interested in physics, and science, but without trying kind of thing. I think that's due to showing the applied physics, rather than demonstrating the math of it all.

I also like the OP song/music. It's a rockin' little number. But then the music is interesting to me for all the little bits and pieces for the mood. Mandolins and other instruments I can't think the name of off the top of my head, and more than one musical catch phrase are used throughout the show.

This would be a good show for American kids, but I wonder if it can't be brought to TV here, because of the killing taking place in the late Tokugawa shogunate era. Or if they think that it is too nerdy, or what...

Do you have a link for when these laws that apply only to colleges were passed and what they state?

If so, please PM it to me - this is pretty much a tangent now, but I'd be curious to see. I can't recall hearing about anything other than token relaxations of copyright law for quite a long time.

I have no idea where it'd be listed on the net.  This is in some books available at the college, as well as club handbooks on what we can and can't do, both according to college rules and state/federal laws.  If it were up to the college, we could show whatever we wanted, excluding hentai.  The best that I could do is remember to bring one of these books to a future meeting.

@randompvg - Have you been watching Fractale?  The whole dopple thing made me think of Dennou Coil while I was watching it.  It got pretty dark in the last episode.  I am still trying to figure out where they are going with the story. :-\  Dennou Coil got sort of dark as well, now that I think about it.   :)

I'm 1/2 way through InuYasha. I can't wait, so I can re-start this season's new anime. So how far behind am I? I saw ep. 1, and then dog boy since. WEll, some Netflix discs too.

Jay, I stated watching this after reading your post.  I just finished episode five.  This is one wacky show!  They tend to cut away from things, and then progress the story, without letting you know how the characters handled the situation.  I think the worst example so far was when they first activate the human form for Homura to get out of the swamp. They show Homura falling down while running away from the Wind Gang, then they cut to Homura in festival cart form being pulled by horses (which they later get to keep and never seem to care for) along with the important personage and his samurai guards.  Huh?  Then the kids leave their escort and go off on their own, and the adults let them!  In fact , I will assume they gave them the two horses.  Hello?  I don't think so!  Then they stay with a poor country couple whose two children died and decide to leave the youngest two kids with them.  Then the one kid leaves with the baby to find the others and the lady who was watching them doesn't notice?  What was she doing that she left the baby unattended long enough for the young kid to grab it and run far enough away that she never caught up to him?  An adult chasing a 5 or 6 year old carrying a baby.  I won't even go into the clockwork machines themselves.  I would have expected a big explosion when the super heated boiler in the large battle wolf hit the river.  I also question the actions of the one samurai who takes Machi off to get revenge.  OK boy why don't the two of us charge the enemy group head on?  He thought that was a good idea?

It is a fun show, just don't try to understand it.

I think I like Hunter x Hunter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunter_x_hunter) better.  A similar style of story, but it flows better.

I may, later... right now I'm just cheesed on principle about the stunt the producers pulled on Funimation - "We're not going to sue the people here who are providing the RAWs for fansubs, but if you don't sue the people who are downloading it, we're pulling the license." If they'd made provision for the English-speaking people who can't watch the Funimation sub (by the terms of the license) because they're in the wrong region, that'd be one thing. Or if they'd had the courage to do it themselves, that'd be another. But to strongarm Funimation into being their proxy left a sour taste n my mouth.

It's fair enough to think that everyone suing each other is the American way, as I've heard joked about in different anime and manga. But that doesn't make it right for the producers to demand something they're unwilling to do themselves.

~

Currently re-watching and loving: Shakugan no Shana. It gets a little bogged down in romance and loses its dark edge as the show goes on, but it's still a favorite.

I think the target audience for Clockwork Fighters is 10-12 years old. I guess. Never let a fact get in the way of a good story! Also, remember that here in Oregon the average age for a woman getting married was 12, and the men's average was 50. Do you think many people bothered to look after someone else's problem aka kids back then? They might have to feed them ya know!

Some of these impossible things, well I just take them as impossible things, and try to not let the elasticity of my willing suspension of disbelief to snap.

Wait until the last few episodes if you're worried about flow. But hey, it's got better continuity than Gundam. lol does anything have worse continuity than Gundam?

It wasn't the fact that they were kids.  I would assume they felt the oldest two kids were old enough to care for the others, no, it was the fact that they gave them two horses, that appear to be thoroughbreds, probably Arabian. They aren't plow horses that is for sure.  Want to guess the value of two horses in the mid 1800's?  "Yeah, we will just give them to you, you need something to pull that thing with right?  Oh and they murdered the entire village you say, gee that is too bad, well have a nice trip, we gotta head on to the next village down the road, we don't have time to go hunting mass murdering arsonists right now."   ::)  I'm sorry, I had a hard time swallowing that whole episode.  Do they ever feed and water those horses?  Were do they stable them?  They give the elephant a name, but they never name the horses.  I also am annoyed with the whole "let's not show how they got out of the predicament" bit.  They do it quite a bit in this show.  The story writer is a firm believer in deus ex machina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deus_ex_machina).   Well I just finished episode 20.  I'll watch the last six when I get up.  Good night.

I started on this season's anime. So far there isn't one that I have seen that I hate. Except I didn't enjoy Beelzebub as much as many of you. Perhaps it's too stupid to me. Just like most of what we get domestically.

As I got so far behind watching InuYasha, I started watching what I have alphabetically. Dragon Crisis, is so moe/kawaii as far as I'm concerned. I really want to follow this one.

Freezing is a guilty pleasure. If you don't have a problem with paper clothes, I think it has value. And for having women as the characters, I'd say it was a fairly manly anime. It has good military leadership lessons.

Gosick, I was 1/2 thinking I was not going to like it very much. And it did take a few more episodes to become involved with the storyline, than some others this season. However, I like this anime. Victorique (pronounced Viktorika), is not as annoying as I had originally feared. The hero guy is a bit cardboard, but seems to serve as Victorique's foil well enough.

Kimi Ni Todoke didn't start off well. I feel like, almost, they were retelling the story from square one. Whew, they weren't, not exactly. But we lost a lot of ground, and are having to re-do much of what we thought we had grown. But... I found I was out of episodes really quickly. I <3 Sawako!

Level E is nuts. But in a good way. Feels kind of like Durarara meets Men in Black, but with more left field insanity.

Oh Yeah, let's not forget Blade Break aka Broken Blade. Still lovin' that.

My Netflix stuff has been abysmal.

Just finished Avenger yesterday. It was a decent anime, certainly not the best. Visually it was somewhat basic compared to the other things I've been seeing lately (Origin: Spirits of the Past, Basilisk), but not distractingly so. The story was interesting, too, but again, not exemplary or anything.

I found a French dubbed camera rip of The Borrower Arrietty (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=7258), and watched it last night.  OH I WANT A  BluRay OF THIS ONE!  This show is everything I expect from Studio Ghibli.  I STILL haven't found a Japanese language version of this, despite the fact it aired in July 2010.  So why are we the last to see it?  Doesn't even air in English until June in Australia by MADMAN (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-12-01/australia-madman-entertainment-adds-ghibli-arrietty) then I think it hits the US in February of 2012 (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-01-27/arrietty-u.s-theatrical-run-set-for-february-2012) as a Disney dub (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-01-12/additional-arrietty-u.s-dub-cast-members-named).  We will probably have the DVD's about 2 YEARS after it's original theatrical release..  GAH!  Any guesses on how soon Tangled will be available, despite the fact it aired in theaters about half a year later. #@%*ing Disney!   >:(   At least the English subbed DVD's (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-03-17/english-subbed-arrietty-bd/dvd-slated-in-japan-for-june) should be available in June 2011.   ;D

Disney's been taking lessons from the folks who brought you the BCS. Corner the market, and rip everyone off. That's why they give such huge contracts to those folks over at the BCS. Nothing says ratings like controversy!

Confession time:

I have a weakness for highschool romances, but I'm pretty specific about them. This one show, "Kimi no Todoke" is super cute. The main character is portrayed to be very similar to the girl from "The Ring", but truthfully she's just very shy and modest. She doesn't have a lot of friends so she starts working hard to make new ones and end all the rumors around her. Then the love interest enters the picture, and he is a genuinely nice guy. There's some drama, but none of it is super wacky or overdone. The characters are adorable without being disgustingly cute. I really recommend it if you like that sort of thing.

To go further, another show "Kuragehime" is great since it's about a somewhat transformation of an otaku by a drag queen. More to it than that, but it's really fun. The age group of the characters is either post college or in college, too. It's more of a slapstick style.

So, yeah. I've been running up the romances as of late.

Kimi ni Todoke is super freakin' AWESOME! Hey Sadako, er I mean Sawako. lol I hop ethey go for their third year of high school, instead of killing it after this season. There are still hard choices to be made.

Jellyfish Princess was neat too. Kuragehime. It's just a little harder to find.

Fractale has been devolving into a more mainstream anime, it seems to me. But having it written by what was the guy, some social scientist, had me wondering what kind of psychobabble I was going to be subjected. Seems Japanese social scientists have a different idea than do American ones. phew.

I love how in episode two, where Hana could have gone all angsty as so many anime works have gone, she took the bull by the horns. She came to a point where it seems most anime characters don't have the courage to make a move, and their not doing anything constitutes running away. Well, Hana here has no clue as to what to do. She's ready willing and able to do something, because where she is, is not where she would like to be.

I'm calling this series a must see.

I rather liked to continuation of the story from a couple years back. But then I was never very fond of making every thing that was ever made into little kids doing the same thing.

I don't suggest that people are not going to like this show. I think they will. It's just not my cup of tea.

And if we are talking retro shows, I would much prefer to see Urasei Yatsura made over. Maybe stop the show before it becomes another 4 seasons of train wreck. Going by disc number, instead of episode number, by disc 76 is was (to me) just terrible. They couldn't figure out what to do with the characters they had, couldn't finish any continuing story lines they had already started, so let's bring in even more insane out of touch, clueless characters. Terrible mainly in that is was such a let down from the great show it once was.

I wonder what I would have thought of this show, had I been able to watch an episode live, when I was in Japan as it was airing originally.

I think Naruto fillers tell some good backstory. Unlike say Bleach, where it's just fillers using the same characters.

Have you caught your dad humming the little ditty used when Naruto is just walking around town, maybe Konohamaru is looking to surprise attack him? I do that sometimes. Catchy thing, innit?

Deadman Wonderland looks like it will be a big hit. At first I thought there it went to far and kept breaking my "willing suspension of disbelief" but as the show progressed, it got away from all the impossible things, and started to have its own sense of logic, so it became more "believable" and thus fun to watch.

I've never watched "Deadman Wonderland", but I did read the manga when onemanga.com was up. It was really gory, creepy, and overall pretty dang good.

It's not anime, but I just started watching "Dr. Who" starting at Season 5 at an arbitrary pick. Why... why did I not watch this show sooner? Those angel things are super freaky! Now I know why everyone was freaking out over that cosplayer last year!

The only problem I'm seeing with DW at this point is the fact that it's being booked as a 1cour, and that's not NEARLY long enough to even start animating all the content in the manga. Undoubtably, while it looks good now, it'll degrade to a crappy anime original ending.

Well, it's possible, and recent events have suggested it may be even probable, it will get a second season, just not consecutive to this current season. I know there have been a couple this past year. Not a good example, but there is going to be a Kampher season 2. Index and Railgun seem to be going one to the other, and back. So I would expect another season of Railgun. Maybe. Depends if there is enough story.

They don't really come together well until you read the VN, but I have to say, as far as coherency, the first season did far better than the second.

Heck, by any standards, the first seasons did better than the second.

EDIT- I guess to be relevant to the thread, I've been enjoying the Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai specials that have been coming out recently. The second aired some time yesterday, and I'm pleased to say the show is 100 percent more bearable without Kirino bouncing around being rude and infuriating.

What I mean is this: prior to lending me the DVD's, I've only seen a couple of random episodes here & there.  I knew that there were different storylines in the series, but if I only see one in one, one in another, and one in another, things don't make sense.  For example, now that I'm watching things through (and in English), I understand that Mion & Shion are twins, and stuff like that.  I've finished the second storyline, now, and have begun the third.  I'll probably get through the third one later tonight, and depending on how many episodes there are, I'll start the fourth one, as well.

Moshidora

Using Peter Drucker's business management principles to manage a baseball team. It was a good first episode. I can't wait until we get into this series to see how it unfolds.

C'mon, using business principles in baseball can be no worse than using the Art of War for business.

Okay, I am up to #3 now. And we are just getting warmed up!

Girls, you just might like this anime. And come to like baseball too. Maybe not...It's seinen enough for a guy to like, but shoujo/josei enough that women will "get it".

It does seem kind of weird to see Drucker treated as if he were a sage from olden days, and not a business manager. But it works so well here!

Oh boy, the spoilers I could tell over DW...

Seriously, it's pretty funny to watch, but Deadman Wonderland is the seasonal trollfood over on /a/. Copypasta spamming, ending spoiling, it's pretty much impossible to talk about for at least a few weeks now. I'm enjoying it, but again with them taking 1 episode/1 chapter, and only having 12 episodes to spare. At this point, they're going to have to skip loads midway through to even touch the Scar Chain arc.

I just watched this last night. Man was it great. Odd that is says it was released in 2010, but the copyright at the end of the show said 2000. http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=7884

(https://www.kumoricon.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg7.anidb.net%2Fpics%2Fanime%2F69587.jpg&hash=a04033438199c79acf42cc8cf35c53b466dfa834)

It's called Koi Sento. I wish it either lasted longer, or they had more episodes. 25 minutes was not enough. The way the 3-D part of the animation looked makes me believe the 2000 copyright date over the 2010 anidb provided date.

It's a romantic/action/comedy. You'll never look at deer the same again. lol

Darker Than Black...on the last disc in the series now. Have been meaning to watch it for a while now but just never got to it. My G/F & I are loving it...we have burned through most of the series in only a few days lol...& that is saying a lot considering we work most of the time & like to play video games in our free-time. Very good show!

Going to be watching Corpse Princess & Gunslinger Girl after we finish with it.

Toriko! GUTS, GUTS, GUTS!

Toriko is a dude thats a gourmet food hunter! He'll do anything to kill something and eat it for the taste!

His dream is to make his full course meal! It's like the latest Shonen Jump manga besides Psyren I think.

Anyway, anime just started and it's awesome!

When I saw the OVA for Toriko I was looking forward to it  so much. But once the actual series came out I was a little disapointed. The OVA is just ep. 2 but with way better animation. I saw the OVA two months before the series and when it came I was mad the animation was so much well...crappier.

Yamakan was here to save anime, but he couldn't even save his career.

Basically, he threw good visuals with his godawful plot and direction on a plate and expected us to eat it up because he was bashing Shimbo, but noone bought it. Literally.

I think part of the problem is when you write a story, and you don't believe the other side has any merit, so you write them as cardboard characters by default. I don't think he believes in either religion, or in freedom fighters. And so the boy's story was to be all and end all, but it seems he couldn't get the boy an answer until too late. He just whipsawed him into inanity.

Now Deadman Wonderland on the other hand....way cool.

I am losing love for Denpa Onna however. Too much time devoted to the ero-auntie. And the title girl is becoming cardboard. It may yet save itself, but...this is anime right? Once down the wrong track, they don't come back do they?

Shouwa Monogatari. It's like the live action film Sunset, Life on Third Street. Which no one from the forums went to see at the Northwest Film Center a few years back. Anyway. It's a look at post WWII Japan, coming into the 60s. It's just a look at family life from back then. Ordinary people who lived in Tokyo. What's kind of cool, is at the end, the show gives you walking tours of the area. What shops etc. are still around form back then. That's one awesome fruit shop in ep. 2.

Ever the one to show up late to the party...

Ah! Crunchy Roll + PS3 browser + 46" TV = solving all my streaming anime sub. problems! It's like an entire new world just opened to me, and I have soooo much anime I want to watch now. Started Deadman Wonderland tonight. Very cool, loving the surreal grotesquery of it, from art style to content. It seems like a very twisted world I have been introduced to with this one...and I like it.

FroZen /Frostii subs also released two new episodes of Yawara today.
Best Father's Day ever!

I'll be playing The Borrower Arrietty during my Anime Friday this week.  It isn't due to hit the states till February 2012 as an English dub by Disney.  It is the newest release from Studio Ghibli.  If you don't want to wait that long, come by and see it with us.  ;D

I guess I shouldn't say "currently" since I technically finished it last night, but I knocked out AnoHana in about two days AND I LOVED IT SO MUCH!!! It really resonated with me in a lot of ways, the characters each have their own particular struggle that I think most people dealing with growing up can relate to. Maybe it's because I'm at an age where I'm overly nostalgic about how things were as a kid, or maybe because I've actually dealt with losses similar to that in the anime, but this series really got to me in all the best ways. <3

SKET Dance, Nichijou, and Ao no Exorcist are still holding my interest.  I also enjoyed the second season of The World Only God Knows.

Honorable mention to Battle Girls and Softenni.

This is the first week for the new shows.  Here are a few of the ones that have grabbed my attention:

Kamisama no Memo-chou – aka God’s Notebook.  The story centers around a NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) detective girl named Alice and her assistant, a high school freshman boy named Fujishima Narumi.   This show is a definite win!  We WILL be watching this.

Ikoku Meiro no Croisée - The story takes place in the second half of the 19th century, as Japanese culture gains popularity in the West. A young Japanese girl, Yune, accompanies a French traveller, Oscar, on his journey back to France, and offers to help at the family's ironwork shop in Paris. Oscar's nephew and shopowner Claude reluctantly accepts to take care of Yune, and we learn how those two, who have so little in common, get to understand each other and live together in the Paris of the 1800s.  Another win. Feels sort of like Victorian Romance Emma.  I look forward to the next episode.  Yune encounters cheese.

Sacred Seven - In a port city within the Kantou region Tandouji Aruma lives a lonely and solitary life. One day, he is approached by Aiba Ruri who asks for his help, for the power of the Sacred Seven which resides within Aruma. However, Aruma turns her away. In the past, Aruma had hurt people with that power. Since that moment, he had foresworn it.  When the peaceful city is attacked by a monster, Aruma reluctantly decides to use the Sacred Seven. However, his powers go berserk and the situation becomes even more dire. At that moment, Ruri comes to his aid.  This show is actually pretty good.  Unbelievable in the extreme, but still fun to watch.  I like how Ruri has an entire female maid army at her disposal.  She also appears to have unlimited funds.  Aruma, on the other hand, is living hand to mouth as a hermit.  I’ll keep watching.

Blade - Whilst pregnant with him, Blade's mother was attacked by a vampire. As a result, he was born as a "Day Walker", with a mix of vampire and human blood flowing through his veins. He possesses the superhuman strength, senses, and regenerative abilities of vampires, but not their vulnerability to sunlight. By utilizing these strengths, combined with his skills in both armed and unarmed combat, he has vanquished many vampires.  Blade has now come to Japan where he is confronted by Deacon Frost, the vampire who attacked his mother. At Frost's command is "Existence", a vampire organization whose members have been modified by Frost.  The newest Marvel addition.  So far I am liking this one.  It feels about the same as Wolverine did.

Nurarihyon no Mago:  Sennen Makyou – At first glance, Nura Rikuo seems like nothing more than a normal middle-schooler. In actual fact, he is grandson of Nurarihyon, master of a youkai clan. Having only recently resolved the hostilities between the Nura Clan and the Shikoku Yokai, Rikuo finds no rest as an ancient enemy of the Nura Clan, Haguromo-Gitsune, resurfaces. After 400 years of inactivity, Haguromo-Gitsune suddenly sweeps through Kyoto with overwhelming power.  THEY’RE BACK!  The long awaited sequel to one of my favorite anime.  The first story answers many questions I had about things from the first season, as well as refreshes all of the characters and informs us of their intent.  A definite MUST SEE on my list.

Natsume Yuujinchou San - Natsume Takashi, with the help of Nyanko-sensei, continues his adventures to free spirits contracted by his grandmother Natsume Reiko in the "Book of Friends".  Another series sequel from another favorite anime.  I wonder if there will be anything left of the “Book of Friends” by the end of the series.  I guess I’ll have to just keep watching to find out.  ;D

YuruYuri - Four fun-loving schoolgirls take over the former room of a tea ceremony club for their own "Gorakubu" (amusement club).  OK, this show is the funny, slapstick, comedy, parody, sensation of the season.  I felt like I was watching K-ON, A Channel, Nichijou, and Lucky Star, all blended together.  It is fun to watch, if just a bit over the top.

Morita-san wa Mukuchi - Morita Mayu is a highschool girl who rarely speaks. The reason behind it is not because she doesn’t like to talk nor because she has nothing to say. The reason she rarely speaks is due to the fact she thinks too much before speaking, thus losing the timing to speak altogether. I have the OVA and the preview for this new series.  I like it so far.  Makes me think of another show about a girl who is misunderstood in school.

Kamisama Dolls - Kyouhei, after moving away to Tokyo from his old town to get away from the events that happened, is on a goukon with his friends, including his old neighbor, Shiba. After drinking for a whole night, he and Shiba discover a dead, bloody, body in the elevator. He is told by his younger sister, Utao with her Kamisama Doll, that Aki, an old friend, and his Doll, are the culprits responsible. (Scary music) BWA ha ha!  This is the dark drama event, running against Blade for that position this season.  I wasn’t sure what to think of this show, the art looks all cutesy, and the characters are lovable, but the antagonist, Aki, is a total amoral serial killer, and the village that everyone is from sounds like a fanatical religious cult.  I’ll watch a few more episodes, but this one is on my wait and see list.   :-\

Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel: Kyun Kyun Tokimeki Paradise!! - Minazuki Haruka and Kannazuki Aoi are two students at St.Cherine academy. Haruka is always filled with bubbly energy while Aoi is more mature and a top student in all her classes - but despite their differences the two are the best of friends. The two girls look like any other girls attending the academy, but the truth is they are hiding a little secret that they can't let anybody know about...  During the day they really are just students at St.Cherine academy, but by night they become the Twin Angels, and fight against the evils of the town!  The lovely Angels are back, and it's time for them to get ready for some action!  I watched the OVA a few years ago, this is a light and fluffy magical girl show.  Not really one I like.  To much like Nuku Nuku TV.  The writers just don’t have any imagination.  The story doesn’t make any sense, geared towards a very young audience, but with fan service for an older one.  This show has no idea who its target audience is.    ???

Nyanpire The Animation - An abandoned kitty is saved by a vampire by giving him a few drops of his own blood. Granted with eternal life, Nyanpire now lives a domestic life with a girl named Misaki.  This is a cute little 5 minute short series.  The characters make me think of The Pinky Show for some reason.

Well that is it... so far.

I have 5 more shows and 1 short to add:

Usagi Drop - Going home for his grandfather's funeral, thirty-year-old bachelor Daikichi is floored to discover that the old man had an illegitimate child with a younger lover! The rest of his family is equally shocked and embarrassed by this surprise development, and not one of them wants anything to do with the silent little girl, Rin. In a fit of angry spontaneity, Daikichi decides to take her in himself! But will living with this overgrown teenager of man help Rin come out of her shell? And hang on, won't this turn of events spell doom for Daikichi's love life?!  This is one of the favorites for this season.  I really enjoyed the first episode.  Can’t wait for the next one.

Blood C -  * A new original animation based on the Blood franchise and featuring popular mangaka collaboration Clamp as original character designers.
Ukishima Shrine is located in an old, picturesque lakeside town. Shrine maiden Kisaragi Saya lives there along with her father, Tadayoshi. By day, she lives the life of a normal high school student at Sanbara Academy. By night, she hunts the Old Ones. Possessing supernatural physical prowess, the Old Ones prey on humans, and only Saya has the ability to defeat them.  Not sure what to think of this one.  It is pretty strange.

No.6 - * Based on a science-fiction novel by Asano Atsuko.
The story is set in No. 6, a future model city in 2013. Raised as a top-ranking elite since the age of 2, a boy named Shion lives in an exclusive area in No. 6. On the night of his 12th birthday, he rescues a boy who calls himself Nezumi (Rat). Nezumi ran away from the city's Special Security Area. From that moment on, Shion's life is changed forever...  I enjoyed the first episode.  Shion and Nezumi are interesting characters.  I want to see what is going to happen next.

Mayo Chiki!  - Konoe Subaru is a beautiful boy who serves as a butler to a classmate named Suzutsuki Kanade. However, another boy named Sakamachi Kinjirou accidentally discovers Subaru's secret — Subaru is really a girl.  This show will be fun.  Has a bit of fan service in the first episode, but I don’t think it will be a regular occurrence in the series.  A school romance comedy.

Uta No Prince Sama - Due to her admiration of popular idol HAYATO, Nanami Haruka dreams of becoming a music producer/composer. For this reason, she enrolls in the music producer course of Saotome Academy. At this Academy, she will be paired with someone from the idol course. Together, the pair will work together until graduation.
When she arrives at Saotome, she soon discovers that there are six extremely dashing guys she can potentially partner with.  This is a reverse harem series geared towards females.  I still enjoyed watching it.  It has a bit of an Ouran High School Host Club feel, although that isn’t a good analogy.

Double-J - In a school where after school activities are mandatory among all students, Hajime and her friend Sayo come across a new club that they have never seen before. The club is called "The Cultural Activity Preservation Club." The two enter the room to find all kinds of analog jobs and activities, such as handcrafting mats and toothpicks. This is a unique cultural manga mixed with comedy so as not to bore you, this is Double J!  This is another short like Nyanpire.  I am not sure if I will continue getting these, they aren’t as interesting as I hoped they would be.

As more shows arrive I will continue to keep you informed.

Here are the last couple shows for this week:

The iDOLM@STER - Anime adaptation of the Idolmaster series of games in which players assume the role of producers and lead the Idols under their care to fame and stardom.  This show is actually done like a dating sim.  The Producer is the viewer and the characters react to him.  All of his speech is text only.  It may change after the first episode since they show the Producer at the end of episode one, and he speaks.

Mawaru Penguin DrumThere isn’t a description on AniDB or ANN, so I will tell you about the first episode.  The threeTakakura siblings, two boys, Kanba and Shouma, and their sister Himari, live alone, it is implied that their parents are dead.  Himari is diagnosed as chronically ill with only a few months at most to live.  They all decide to spend what time she has left doing whatever she wants.  They all go to the aquarium to see the penguins.  While in the gift shop Himari finds a cute hat of an Emperor Penguin Queen which they purchase.  Soon after Himari collapses and dies at the hospital.  While the brothers are crying over her dead body and arguing at each other about what to do next, Himari suddenly sits up and starts to talk!  Alien penguins have brought Himari back to life, but at what cost?

I've been interested in it since seeing it's commercial ads on my Gurren Lagaan DVDs and was pleased to see it on Netflix a bit ago. I got around to watching the first episode, and was hooked after the first minute.
(blah blah blaaaah~)
While it may not answer every blooming question they pose, I don't believe it's intended to and instead is geared toward making the viewer use their brain some. With a mix of mystery, action and random romance, this anime harnesses conspiracy theory ideas since WWII up to 9/11 and the "present" with a "game" forced on 12 Japanese citizens. There's pretty funny humor in here, as well as the needed god-complex going on. After watching Death Note and getting annoyed at Light, this was a nice fresher tone and I have to say, Death Note doesn't make the cut. Too many episodes and too many characters are in Death Note. It's great for what it is, but this anime takes out the supernatural aspect and puts it more into the realistic joint of humans today.

LOVED it~!

I've been switching off between Fate/Stay Night and Durarara!! I like both of them a lot for different reasons

DRRR- It's just so... out there and over the top. I only started watching it because Baccano!! is in my top five favorite animes, and I'm glad I did. The plot line is all but not there and the pairings always make me go "What the heck?" but it's enjoyable and fun to watch.

F/SN- Only started watching this because I kept seeing pictures of Rider all over the place and wanted to know what she was like. I instantly fell in love. I'm only on episode 10, but it's an amazing anime and way worth my time. The art is absolutely gorgeous and the voice actors are superb (watching the dub)

My anime club is currently watching Durarara!!, Gunslinger Girl and Eden of the East

DRRR is something I've watched before (see post two posts ago), but I hadn't seen the other two. I hadn't even heard of GG. Gotta say, it's underwhelming...

HOWEVER, Eden of the East? SO. COOL. I'm SO glad I'm watching it (and I was the one who suggested it xD). Can't wait to finish this (probably WAY too short) series!

^ Lord knows I'm not a fan of disrespecting my beloved Ayako Kawasumi (who was one of the Queens Blade VAs)... but while I usually try to watch a full episode, to me the fanservice was so over-the-top that I couldn't watch a full episode. Did I give up too quickly, i.e. is the storyline in Queens Blade worth watching if you can make it through the first episode?

(And thanks for the warning about MoMH.. I was curious about it when I saw the title in passing the other day.)

~~~
Currently re-watching and loving: Argento Soma. It has its weaknesses (a plot that drags, odd artwork) - but it's one of the better stories about loss and recovery. Not quite Kanon, but still good.
Cross Game. I would've never suspected I would like a baseball anime, but this one's got me hooked pretty good. It's right up there with any shoujo or josei anime for realistic interactions and emotions, and it's kinda sweet without being sappy. (^_^)
Just watched Canaan, all in one sitting (only 13 episodes). Wow, really enjoyed it. Beautiful animation, an excellent balance of humor and intensity in the story, and some really great character/relationship development, complete with a couple tear-jerking adieus. Had my eyes glossing over at multiple instances. A beautiful, well-paced anime. Highly recommended.
THis Spring has been good. There are about two shows each day that I like to watch. Some more than others, some just depend on how I feel that day if I want to bother/deal with watching a particular show.
My "A" list for this Spring; Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, Hyouka and finally found out about the name today, oooooh..., Kids on the Slope I might become a jazz fan, not just a Jaz fan, Tsuritama,
Call this the A minus or B plus list; Space Brothers, Bodacious Space Pirates this one almost gets the A listing but I think the writers need more story telling ability as well as all their knowledge of space related trivia, Mysterious Girlfriend X, Medaka Box.
And then there is always Naruto Thursdays...
Recorder And Randsell do not get on the Spring A list, because it was on my Winter A list, and it just continues.
Nyarko-san get a C. It's just too been there done that sort of show. I am more interested in actually reading Lovecraft's novels than watching this show currently.
^ I'd echo the recommendations for Dusk Maiden of Amnesia and Mysterious Girlfriend X, and will have to give the others a try. :)
And I'd give it a B-, but you're right about Nyarko-san (or Nyarlko-san, or Nyaruko-san, or whatever)... they rely too heavily on worn-out material, especially the "hypersexual girl chases uninterested partner" motif. Wonderfully weird at times, though.
I have compiled a list of anime that's available on Netflix that I either want to watch or have seen a couple of episodes and never finished.  They are:
Desert Punk
Fruits Basket
KenIchi: The Mightiest Disciple
Rosario Vampire
Sgt. Frog
Shuffle!
Soul Eater
Witch Blade
xxxHolic
Does anybody have any recommendations on what to watch first?  (Oh, yeah, I'm still trying to finish off 5 other series, 2 of which are getting close to being done, and one of which will take quite some time to finish, so this probably won't be happening for a while yet).
Finally watching K-On! for the first time and have found it surprisingly good - I'm usually leery about things that get really popular, because then can be hit or miss for me.  This is one of those times where it lives up to the popularity.  Or whatever.
Also, Boogiepop Phantom.  After reading the light novels first, it makes a heck of a lot more sense than just watching the anime alone would do.  Confusing at times, but it's interesting to see when and where I'm able to pick up on 'hey, that's so-and-so!'.
I apologize in advance for the length of this post.
I am currently watching on Hulu:
1) Princess Tutu - The story is more complex than I thought it would be.  I haven't watched all of the episodes yet, but, I did watch the ending already.  For me, personally, it has one of the best endings to anime that I have seen.
2) Accel World - I like this one quite a bit.
3) Eureka Seven: Astral Ocean - It's disappointing that there are not much of the prior Eureka Seven characters in this one.  However, imo, it is still one of the better animes that I have watched this summer.
4) Romeo x Juliet - I am actually watching this series in both subtitled and English dubbed forms.  So, it is taking me longer than normal to get through the series.
Shows I watched earlier this year on Hulu:
1) Ouran High School Host Club - I liked it okay.  It wasn't as funny as I was hoping it would be.
2) Guilty Crown - I had a real love/hate reaction to this one.  There were some great parts to the anime, but, there were also so many contrived coincidences and characters sometimes seemed to randomly behave in whatever way that the plot dictated.  In other words, it was more of a shock-and-awe, plot-driven anime.
3) Is this a Zombie? - The lead male character was a pervert.  I found three of the lead female characters annoying.  They were constantly accosting the guy even when he wasn't doing anything wrong. However, some of the comedy moments worked for me.  I thought that the main magical girl outfit in this anime was well-designed, fashion wise. Also, after having to watch so many magical girl transformations in animes over the years, I found it amusing to see a male character have to do the magical "girl" transformation. As well as, the lead male character can be downright sweet and caring some of the time.
4) C3 - The fan service/ecchi was annoying, but, the lead male character wasn't a pervert and the premise was intriguing.  I really liked this one, overall.
5) Ultra Maniac  - I liked it okay.
6) Darker Than Black - Season 2 - I liked the first season better. I didn't like that there was so little of the season one characters.
7) Pandora Hearts - I actually saw the first 3 episodes of this at the 2011 Kumoricon.  So, I was happy to see that this anime title was on Hulu.  I had a somewhat mixed reaction to this. Not really the love/hate reaction that I had to Guilty Crown, it was more that I was just disappointed some of the time. In general, I liked it overall, though.
8) Future Diary - A really brutal anime.  I did like the ending.  The way that they resolved it worked for me.
9) The Legend of the Legendary Heroes - This had some really great plot points.  I loved the tragic friendship between Sion and Ryner.  However, to me, Ferris was a very annoying, unlikable character.  She was constantly attacking Ryner, calling him a pervert, when he a) wasn't a pervert and b) wasn't doing anything wrong.
Shows I tried but couldn't get into:
1)Binbogami Ga! - I found the two lead characters annoying.
2) High School DxD - Lead character is a pervert and the anime seems aimed at guys.
3) Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine ---- Fujiko has a clothes issue in much of the 1.25 episodes that I watched... In that, she's not wearing any, much of the time.  It's really rather distracting, annoying, and it takes away from the story.  As much as I liked the Castle of Cagliostro, I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in watching nekkid Fujiko.  I do wish that there were more anime's featuring adult characters.  But, not in this way. So, definitely not in this way.
4) Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere - Aimed at guys.
5) Maria Holic - Really unlikable lead male character (who dressed as a girl). For me, personally, one of the most unlikable lead characters that I have seen in any anime. He was just such a cruel, mean-spirited character.
^ ...is that one High School of the Dead?  If so, it's not that it's aimed at guys, but fans of zombie movies, shows, and video games.  Aside from the somewhat-stereotypical fanservice being used, such tactics were used because the guy who created the series is more known for hentai.
5) Maria Holic - Really unlikable lead male character (who dressed as a girl). For me, personally, one of the most unlikable lead characters that I have seen in any anime. He was just such a cruel, mean-spirited character.
Personally, I thought this series was great, partially because he's a jerk.  It should be pointed out, as well, that he's not the main character; that would be Kanako.
High School of the Dead is a different anime series.  I haven't watched that one yet.
5) Maria Holic - Really unlikable lead male character (who dressed as a girl). For me, personally, one of the most unlikable lead characters that I have seen in any anime. He was just such a cruel, mean-spirited character.
Personally, I thought this series was great, partially because he's a jerk.  It should be pointed out, as well, that he's not the main character; that would be Kanako.
For me, personally, one of the things that I tend to like about anime series is that in many of them, the characters tend to be more complex than the characters in U.S. TV shows and movies. In other words, characters in anime series are often times more "shades of grey" than their "black-and-white" U.S. counterparts.   A good example of this would be Martian Successor Nadesico which has some of the main characters' enemies behaving in normal, human ways, like in the Nadesico movie, where some of the women in the opposing army demanded that the guys put clothes on Yurika out of basic decency.  Or, when the opposing military leader surrendered and stated, "Can you guarantee the safety of my men (troops)?" --- Paraphrasing, don't remember the exact dialogue.
So, for me, a seemingly black-and-white villain and/or jerk in an anime is a bit of a turn off. Though the writers in Japan tend to think up reasons why, so-and-so, behaves the way he/she does and the reasons are usually well thought out explanations.   However, it is usually revealed late in the season or series. Personally, I prefer it when they reveal it more early on, like in Gosick.  The lead female character, Victorique, is a bit of a Sherlock Holmes jerk type.  However, you know, early on, why she ended up that way, because of the way her family had treated her.  She hadn't experienced much love in her life.  Kujo is her first real friend and companion.
Anyhow, I finished watching Princess Tutu. While the cat character was somewhat annoying (and creepy), I enjoyed the series for the most part.
I liked Accel World's 24th episode.  It worked as a season ender or a series ender because it wrapped up most of the most important and pressing plot points. I hope it gets a second season.
I have gotten up to episode 14 of Gosick, and really like it for the most part.  I am also watching Glass Mask and am trying out Campione!
Oh, also I pre-ordered the funimation version of hellsing ultimate.  I've already watched it with subs but I liked it so much it would be a nice thing to add to my collection to show off to friends (not that many visit me anymore )
Oreimo 2 (Ore no Imōto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=14208), or My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute) has been the best show of the season thus far, but it needs more Kuroneko. (^_~)
Anyone else have a favorite for this season?
I know it doesn't count as an anime, but I've been watching Beast Wars lately.  I love the innuendos, and was shocked to find out that Blackarachnia was voiced by Venus Terzo.
- Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro. I can't get enough. The manga was also incredible.
- I'm also a very casual fan of One Piece. But, I'm always watching that.
Same here.  They've just started showing it on FUNimation on Demand, the free section.  I've only seen the first three episodes.
^ I think it counts enough.  By the way, I agree, but the male protagonist (name escapes me) needs to get a reality check.
Ahaha, everyone seems to be watching Attack on Titan this season. Been seeing fanart of it pop up EVERYWHERE.
My personal favorite this season's got to be To Aru Kagaku no Railgun S, though. So far it's shaping up to be even better than the first season, which I already consider one of my favorite anime series.
Tried to watch Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko, but just couldn't get into it. It had an interesting premise, but wasn't as good as I expected it to be.
Requiem! Woo! Love that one!
Since Crunchyroll is missing episodes of everything I want to watch, I am rewatching stuff I own on DVD. Currently watching Origin: Spirits of the Past. One of my top animated films. So gorgeous and interesting.
I really want to watch Attack on Titan though. I watched one episode and really dug what I saw. Anyone have recommendations of where to see the full season?
I've been doing that, too, but for different reasons.  I just watched the episode of The Slayers (first season) where Gourry is forced into crossplay for the first time, and there's a gay sea dragon that they have to "vanquish."
...now I wanna watch some Maria Holic...
Well, I'm not technically watching it anymore seeing as I finished it, but I finished it recently, so... Tiger & Bunny. I enjoyed that series a lot more than I thought I would.
I've also been watching Galaxy Express 999... finally. That's one cool little series, too. Well, I guess it's not so "little" considering it's over one-hundred episodes long...
Zettai Karen Children has been surprisingly good as well. I've also been enjoying Place to Place and Chuunibyou.
That's one I need to watch. The movie 'Adieu: Galaxy Express 999' was my first anime as a kid, and I didn't realize until a long time later that there was a show too. I should really have watched it by now. Loved the movie.
Oh, and I found a way to stream through Crunchyroll, so I've been watching Attack on Titan. Really blown away. It takes a familiar outline and dresses it in such unique, refreshing musculature. Very interesting show.
I'm not sure it meets the "and loving" standard, but Golden Time has been the most interesting anime I've seen this season. It reminds me of college days, of being young and being guided by the heart rather than by reason. Which is appropriate, since it is a romantic comedy about college kids*. (^_^) But that doesn't keep me from wishing the characters would stop and think things through a little more sometimes.
* An anime that doesn't center around high school... can you believe it? (^_~)
Kanon. Does it count if it's not currently watching it? I finished it in one night. Had work the next day. I think it should count. No regrets.
It starts off as stereotypical anime, but then it just. It just. Guys. It justs.
