So i was thinking.
You know how there is like 9 or 10 forum goers (off the top of all of our heads) in central oregon?
Why not go down there and have a party?
Details will be added as the thread progresses, as i have no idea what to do as of yet, but i think this could be fun!

I am always interested in road trips. I think we'd need to wait until the weather is better though.
Unless we just go down to Eugene or something. Do you consider that "central" or do we need to cross the mountains?

The Santiam (spelling?) pass is usually covered in snow from I believe November to February or March, and it is the most direct route to Bend.

Well if you are gonna do it make it quick cause the pass is not fun to drive in when a blizzard is blowing. Plus they usually will have the road closed if it is not safe

i don't think we an plan something like this that quickly.

I actually have snow tires for the mighty van. There's no way I'd bother puting them on for this cause though. Sorry. The van is awesome but it is not that dependable mechanically.

Best Time to Drive: July-October, McKenzie Pass is closed in the winter months. Gas is only available in Sister--make sure you fill'er up!
but... that is the best time for "scenic" driving. March should be a safe time. Mar 22st to March 26th is spring break so maybe arond then? and I can bring 4 people, my son's dad has him for spring brake so no need to worry about a space for him. And maybe we could like stay the night at someones?? I think a sleepover would be fun!!!!

My sis lives in bend, not an anime fan type, but she maybe might let me and maybe one other stay, maybe if we like promise to watch her sons at night so her and Mat can do something, ^^;; but... Yeah.. looking to see if any hotals are cheap enough. if there is I can reserve it and people just chip in. I'll post as soon as I figure it out.
oh, and I love my nephews they are too cute! them yeasterday.

If it's in march, I wouldn't want to drive. I have a tiny Kia rio, if there ends up being snow it can not handle it. Also, getting that much time off work seems something I can't do. (that much being both for then and the beach trip all in the same week.)

If we can find another driver, and you COULD get the time off, then we could do it in march, but i do understand your concern. I happen to find you a key part of this trip, and it would suck if you couldn't go.

Ok, let's clear the air a little here...coming from a Central Oregonian that travels and has lived here most of my life. The best way to go in bad weather is over hood by gov't camp. This pass will be open & is typically the most travelled in winter since the other routes get closed most of the time. Hood can get bad though, & if you are not an experienced driver, you should get someone who is. During the winter, you should always at least carry chains over any pass to avoid getting turned around by a state cop.
As for the weather here, don't plan to only visit if the weather is nice because Central Oregon weather is un-predictable. If you don't like snow...then I would say June or later since we never know when our summer is gonna start for real here lol.
And if you guys are coming, you get to put up with all of us! Oh yes...that includes me *evil grin forms* seriously though, it would be fun & as long as someone has the driving experience & well maintained car, shouldn't need to wait until next summer.

I think I'll be in Central Oregon already for my Spring Break (I think it will be something like the 26th-1st), if something is going on with Griff or Katie I'd be happy to hang out with them. In fact, I'll be finishing up cosplay for Sakuracon so if you two want to get together for cosplay making's I'd be alright with that too.

And the scariest thing that has ever been on this earth.
During the winter, IT IS SCARY!
Last winter Nikkiolie was having a Christmas party and Irene and I were going to go as Christmas near and L and the pass snowed over.
It sucked... SO BAD.
I wanted to go to that so much.
But I would advise like.. not coming during the winter.
Or spring break.
Me and my friends go to California for most if not all of spring break.

Planes aren't bad I think, BUT WHO WANTS TO FLY. I went back home for Christmas on a bus though. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THAT PASS.
4 hour bus ride took 9 hours. I wanted to kill myself. A hippie gave me a cliff bar so I didn't die of hunger. Yeah, don't do the pass in the dead of Winter, it's kinda scary.
And no problem Katie. Let's make up for not hanging out on my Summer break and hang out on my Winter break, k? :D

I'm not sure if the plan has changed at all(time, date, place, etc) but I tried reading some of the stuff on the last page and 1/2...but I got lazy. XD

It would be hilarious to do the beach trip one weekend and then this trip the next and then Sakuracon after that..... There should be some sort of Salem trip as well so that Portlanders go every direction on the compass!
(countine Central Oregon as East because really most of us don't cross the Cascades too often.

It'd be cool if you all showed up for an epic party of epic. Was thinking of maybe heading up to Kahneeta or something The 10th is a Thursday, so maybe we could plan on the 11-12th for that weekend? Of course, we could always push it around a bit to make it longer if we wanted xD
@ JT & Charlie: Cleared it with roommates that you guys could crash on the floor/couch/wtc at my place for the trip.
