What are some details on game room staff?
What would i have to do?
how long would i have to do it?
where do i sign up?

Not an actual staff (yet) so take this with a grain of salt, but as has been
conveyed to me;

- Sorry, don't know anything on specifics, but I imagine a good knowledge of
game systems and there set up as well as ability to keep track of multiple small
controllers at once helps. Also, gaming staff takes turns maning the bag check, which
requires standing for a good amount of time and taking and returning bags, so
accuracy and speed of transaction is important!

- See above answer, basically, you'd prolly end up being a super awesome grunt that
takes down, sets up and cleans up all the gaming areas, or the specific one you are
designated to. This all depends on the Gaming/Programing staff's leaders and the director
they decide what you do and where you do it.

- Volunteer work is just that, voluntary, so any amount is kosher... but... for the specific
designation of STAFF; it's the same as any other group, which is a minimum of 16 hours
throughout the convention. Anything less than that is just a volunteer and does NOT get
the discounts a staff gets. Be forewarned that lack of staff has required many to pull
double or even tripple the regular amount of shifts so, unless there are a healthy supply of
volunteers, you may need to work more than the minimum hours!

-You can sign up for staff at the staff sign up meeting which should be in november, or I
believe at any meeting after that!

This is an email I sent to the Secretary as my interpretation of the duties of gaming staff.

Also...
minimum work hours required from all staff (IIRC): 16 hours
expected work hours of gaming staff: 30-40 hours, plus potential pre-con/post-con work (edit: be aware that we won't force you to work terribly long hours, and generally won't ask you to do so unless you seem willing; it's just typical that Gaming Staff aren't as abundant as they need to be, and so we spend a lot of time working.  I logged 63 hours at con last year, but I think that's fairly well above the mean)
To sign up as staff: attend a general meeting, speak to the Programming Director and the Gaming Manager to make it sure it's the right job for you, fill out a staff form, have the Programming Director sign of on your staff form, turn it in to the Secretary along with staff dues ($10 in previous years, possibly subject to change), and you're done.

Duties (for the 2009 con year):
-Operate bag check
Acquire bags from attendees entering the game room which could be used to take equipment belonging to or loaned to Alto Nimbus Entertainment.  When the bag is claimed, the attendee is given a clothes pin with a unique number, and a sole matching clothes pin is attached to the attendee's bag(s).  The bags should be placed neatly within the enclosed area such that the bag is visible to the attendee and the number on the pin can be read by staff in the bag check area when the bag is claimed.  When bags are claimed, both pins are retrieved and clipped to one another and the pins are laid on the table in an orderly fashion so as to avoid damage or confusion.
-Operate game check
Attendees seeking to use a game, controller, or system which is not currently set up may exchange their con badge for such equipment.  When an attendee does so, their full legal name as entered on their con badge is entered into the spreadsheet, accompanied by a full list of items checked out to the attendee.  When the attendee returns all of these items, that entry is deleted from the spreadsheet entirely, and the attendees badge is returned.  Attendees may not enter or leave the Gaming area without a badge.  If an attendee's badge is missing, that attendee will be escorted by Yojimbo staff to the lost and found area to retrieve it.  If an attendee wishes to use his or her own equipment, that equipment must be checked in first, then it can be checked out.  If an attendee wishes to leave with equipment that he or she brought, that attendee may request that the equipment be removed from our database.

-Watch in and out doors of the Console Gaming Room
Badges are observed at both doors.  Those who do not display a badge may not enter or exit the room without a Yojimbo escort.  Minors may not enter the room during hours of curfew.  Attendees whose age is questionable may be asked to present photo ID displaying that they are at least 18 years of age.  Entry to the room may be limited at any given time to maintain fire code, or to provide room for tournaments.

-Patrol the Console Gaming Room
The room will be frequently patrolled to deter theft and vandalization of equipment.  Theft and Vandalism are crimes.  Those caught vandalizing or stealing equipment may face criminal charges and should be promptly banned from the convention space.

-(optional) Organize and Run Tournaments
Staff and volunteers are responsible for running all of the tournaments which occur in Console Gaming at Kumoricon.  Those wishing to organize and/or run a tournament should contact the Console Tournament Coordinator and/or Console Gaming Manager.

an addendum to what tofu said, if you don't know how to do something, ask, then you will know. I say this cause i know way too many people who get put in a position that they do not know and are too shy to ask how to do it.

Wow, thanks for all this info; this will be a great help! ^_^ I know I'm not the one who posted this thread, but I, like Cthul, am kind of looking into becoming a game room staff.

There are also other cons that you can staff at before K'con next year if you are interested (Mewcon, Akicon, Orycon). Staffing for the first time at a smaller con helped me get the overall feel of being con staff. I know Mewcon is looking for more gaming staff  too (as well as other positions).

im totally already planning on going to the mewcon meeting this month, and signing up for panel staff
