I just went ice skating with some friends and their Japanese exchange students - about 30 people - and I admit that it was extremely fun. <3 I'd like to go with such a big group again.
Cosplay is not a dress code here for the people who do not want to risk their costumes on the ice.
WHERE: Ice Skating Rink @ Lloyd Center
WHEN: December 27, 1pm
ADMISSION AND SKATE RENT FEE:
$9 per person.

I just wanted to comment on something, at something like this where you are meeting in a public place I don't see how you can put a cap on things. People can show up if they want and you can't turn them away. Now if this was at someone house it would be much easier to do that.

I've really wanted to go ice skating for awhile. As long as I'm not moving into our new apartment at that time I would probably go and try to bring my boyfriend.

I can stand on ice; can even run and fight and play video games on the ice.
Can't do any of it with ice skates on, though. Leg just ain't that good.

I'd like to come and try. If I come as Red the Ninja, I'll be cushioned from any falls I take, and the cold ice. I'm much better at walking on ice when I play Curling there.
Actually Lloyd center ice has enough skate marks on it to be unpredictable when throwing a curling stone down it and hoping it'll go straight, compared to smooth ice at a curling clubhouse.

there is a pokemon cosplay meetup on the second saturday of november, so i don't suggest doing it then, as there will most likely be a decent sized group going to that.
although, the original plan was to go to lloyd center, we have pretty much decided against it due to peoples past experiences with that mall.

True, True...That mall is a bit..yeah...Didnt Clackamas used to have a skating rink...They like took it out because of there money business with it was being sucky..well..

Well, me a couple others went there in "cosplay". It was more, we wore casual clothing and our wigs, and we had no trouble. But someone should probably call just to make sure. Or at least know what we can do. B/c we might be able to just wear our wigs and do a casual type cosplay.

Yeah the casual thing may be all we can do unless we fill out paperwork and get premission.

Agreed. I'm not totally sure about this, but I've heard that they've been having problems with shootings, etc. in the past. But I think as long as we don't have anything that could be mistaken for a weapon, or wear tons of makeup (like covering whole face) or masks, we should be fine!

At Clackamas When I was cosplaying Snake people actually asked me if I was in the army.(Courtesy of my mini mustache and puberty) Im 12...
What I am saying is they are nice at clackamas...
But I am fine with going to Lloyd Center...Im not going in cosplay though...The casual thing is a good idea.

There is the Valley Ice Skating Rink...That's the only one I can think of right now. And it's right next to the Bowling Ally and Theater!!! And buses do go there as well.

Anyways, we need to pull together one date so put a range of dates that's available for you people.
EXAMPLE- the 3rd to the 20th is fine for me.. (Thats not really my date range...)
Im good on Saturdays all the time. Sundays too, but not all the time.
So any weekend I think is great... Or a day when people dont have work and school!

Though it's a long stretch for some to get to, what about the Sherwood Ice Arena? It's a walk down the street for me, and I doubt anyone there will mistake us for a badly dressed gang with scary masks and fearsome weapons.

As long as no one goes and runs around, screams their heads off and bother regular mall folks, I'm sure we'll be fine.
I repeat, I don't see how cosplayers don't have a right to access the mall.
i don't see it either, but i have heard things about cosplay meetups going awry at the lloyd center.
its obvious that one or two cosplayers isn't a big deal, especially since con-goers went there for food while it was at the double tree, but we were warned more than once in the pokemon cosplay meetup thread about it being an issue there.

on a side note, knowing some of the people from this forum, cosplay meetups can get pretty rowdy, whether the numbers be small or great.

I still am not sure about Lloyd center but hey the worst then can do is just kick us out right. And yeah I agree that it's not fair to not let cosplayers in but I can kinda understand it if people are wearing like cloaks and heavy stuff that can hide lots of weapons and stuff but just normal cosplays is kinda overkill.

When I walked in there, it looked like a couple of hobbyists came up with twenty grand, enough to open a store there, and I don't think they'll be able to pay Lloyd Center rents for much more than two, three months.
By the way, Lloyd Center's monthly rents are in the $15 - $40K range. Where their store is positioned, it's around $20K.
EDIT: Per month, mind you, per month.

The only reason why nothing's really there as much. Because all the fans in Portland keep jumping on the merchandise. When I went there they said they had a whole bunch of Dragonball Z keychains, and someone came in and grabbed a whole clump of them. I bought the last three they had while I could.
But there's also Morning Glory to check out.

The only reason why nothing's really there as much. Because all the fans in Portland keep jumping on the merchandise. When I went there they said they had a whole bunch of Dragonball Z keychains, and someone came in and grabbed a whole clump of them. I bought the last three they had while I could.
Because selling DBZ key chains is totally enough to keep a business afloat...
...And t-shirts, and model kits. Speaking of DBZ I might finally decide just to bring my SS Goku cosplay along. Also I have two friends hoping to meet me up there. Picking cosplays to wear is like picking which hot rod to drive, you can only pick one. >_<

Anime Asylum was quite depressing, empty, and devoid of merchandise when I went there last week. I wouldn't be surprised if it's gone in two months.
Ya I feel the same. I want the story to do well so badly but they don't really have a wide range of audiences to come in just anime fans
When I walked in there, it looked like a couple of hobbyists came up with twenty grand, enough to open a store there, and I don't think they'll be able to pay Lloyd Center rents for much more than two, three months.
By the way, Lloyd Center's monthly rents are in the $15 - $40K range. Where their store is positioned, it's around $20K.
EDIT: Per month, mind you, per month.
Have you even talked to the owner? Last time I was there I was chatting with him and while his rent is rather high, it's no where near 20k a month, and the store was doing great business wise. I expect it there for at least a year.

Well that I decided after a midnight episode of missing bus after train to get home, instead of struggling against the cold and wind up to Portland one more time, to just stay at my home park and fight in cosplay (Amtgard).
There's always next time.

It sucks that I lot my sweater though...Can't believe why someone would want it though...IT'S SO UGLY!!!!!!!!! But it's for me cosplay...
