This looks interesting.  What kind of artwork are you looking for?  Original, fanart?  Lanscape, portrait, both?

I was wondering if you will take multiple submissions? And if female characters have a better chance of winning, seeing as it has been a female character on the cover every year.

I think Nightblade means a full animal/human hybrid, not just ears and a tail.  (Although I could be wrong since I can't read NightBlade's mind)

New poster here, if we enter the Mascot Contest does it enter us for this one as well o.o? I'm curious because it seems like they'd all be about the same sorta entry.
Title: Call for artists!
Post by: Darkerlight on March 31, 2006, 08:31:14 pm
The mascot will will not nessisarily be the front cover art for the program guide. The winner will have the option of drawing one too but will be very busy on their own right... ie working with our graphic designer and myself to create the posters, badges, bumper stickers, flyers, ect. and will be listed in the mascot gallery page in the program with art as the winner.

This was for last year's contest any way :3

Last year we had the regular Kumori girl as our mascot and Ms. BurkoTheBeerMan @ deviant art won the cover contest for the brochure.

the rules of last years contest apply for this years, the deadline is less urgent than the mascot deadline.
Title: Call for artists!
Post by: Cherry on April 20, 2006, 10:23:33 pm
By less urgent do you mean that it will be needed sooner than the deadline that was posted for last year? Becuase i really want to enter, but it would be nice to know when you need them by roughly =P
Title: Call for artists!
Post by: Darkerlight on April 20, 2006, 10:29:21 pm
Less urgent: May 30th 2006
Voting: June 1st-5th

Prize may not be the same.
We cannot garentee the table this year since the alley is pretty full up from what I understand.

<edit>
Artist alley is still excepting forms:

I assume we are only allowed 1 entry to the contest?
Title: Call for artists!
Post by: ScrumYummy on April 27, 2006, 09:18:25 pm
So, wait. Is there currently a cover contest? Are the guidelines basically the same?

I'm confused o.o
Title: Call for artists!
Post by: Cherry on April 28, 2006, 07:37:30 pm
Yeah there is one for this year as well.  Although i believe its been said that they are unsure of whether you will get a table in the artists' alley or not this year if you win.  Or that's what ive been lead to believe xD;;
Title: Call for artists!
Post by: Darkerlight on April 28, 2006, 11:50:41 pm
Yep, artist alley will not be part of the prize this year.

Rules are the same for program front contest, this contest is one entry per person unlike the mascot contest and jpg format please.

Voting will begin <edit> June 1st.

Email completed entries to Kumori_girl@yahoo.com

<Edit>
Artist alley has space left but we are still uncertain about being able to offer a table this year for the prize.

So, when entering the contest, you want us to send in a .jpg file, and send you the .tiff if we win? Or do you want the .tiff off the bat?

Personally, I'd rather send you a preview image in .jpg format.

And just so that I have this straight--this is for the cover contest, deadline May 30th, 1 entry per person, email submissions to Kumori_girl@yahoo.com, and the .tiff file needs to be 8x11, 300 dpi, and CYMK color?

Streight on, you got it.

I'd like the submissions in jpg for preview, if you win I will request the .tiff  8*11 and 300 dpi. our box just can't take all those .tiff's and I don't want to sacrifice quality for quantity :)

not nessisarliy.

It would be nice to have our mascot on the front but its not nessisary. The cover is after all a totally seprate contest.

If you would like to add her email me and I can send you her clean image.

Oooh!  Is there a page I could go to with the rules?  Hmmm.... July eh?  Nice!

Well, if I get some time between then with work, our manga part (which you are all invited to), my other two internships and getting ready for the con, yes!  I will enter.  I'll put something together, hopefully intime.

Curious: Is traditional art accepted?  I use Copics and don't like using digital media for my work.  I just dont feel comfortable using it.

Actually I have a scanner and I can send it at a CMYK format to one of the admins?  I will look again to make me not look like a dumb blond.... who just got off work about 30 minutes ago.  *tired.... must.... eat.... chicken rice bowl....*

But thanks!  I'll try to make it to the meeting but this month's looking pretty full.  I have a manga party to plan for and a possible inker who might speek.   He's got some idea's and tips for helping young artists.  Hehehehe.

Quick question, Are you guys looking for a full cover page or do you guys want to add text and stuff that would be on the cover?

For example i was thinking of putting the logo on mine and writing the date of Kumoricon... Should I just leave that out and submit the artwork only?
Title: Call for artists!
Post by: Darkerlight on May 11, 2006, 09:03:05 pm
It's up to you if you want to make text or not. Of course we reserve the right to add it if you choose not to.

Ah!  Great, I thought so.   I don't see how text could be added right now to my design so that saved me some time.  But there is enough room for text on mine... just not now.  Gotta finish it.  I hope to complete it this weekend.  Wow!  I can't beleive how fast this took me to get this far.  I'm in my coloring phrase.  *gonk*

Okay, then what kind of text are you guys expecting? So far I just have just the standard "Kumoricon September 2-4th".... is that okay? and do we need to give you the font we used if you need to add text?

Just wondering so I can get everything right before I submit my entry.

Artist alley is where artists pay for a booth and sell their wares and the art show is where artists display there work and sometimes compete in various catagories, they do not have to pay to place a piece in the show.

ok. so when they win in the catagories, what do they win? a trophie? money? poky?? and why was it cancelled this year? i personally think it sounds better than the artist alley in my opinion......
Title: Call for artists!
Post by: Darkerlight on November 15, 2006, 03:12:12 pm
It was canceled due to lack of entries, I never knew what (if anything) they won anything but they had a bid sheets were pieces could get bid on in silent auction style. I'll ask programming to see if they will run one this year or maybe it can be submitted as a panel...

See, this is the thing I hate about the Kum forums. This is a con that goes on yearly, so thought maybe after some time after the con - like a few months, or with notice - the old threads would get deleted. Because then people get excited about these cool things and want to get involved ¬¬ and find out that the thread is a rotting, stinky corpse!

Are they doing this for 07 as well, or not? Because I really need an artists table, and may not be able to afford one. Trying my changes at it would be great
Title: Call for artists!
Post by: ScrumYummy on May 15, 2007, 11:35:22 am
I agree. The contest forum especially should be cleaned out after every con, and someone needs to come along and lock/delete all of these user-made threads about the contests and start "official" ones, and use the first post as a holder for information. Or maybe sticky the official topics and announce information there instead of in user-made topics.
