Pretty simple games but really gimmick heavy. I play these more (like once a month? lol) than any other pokemon game simply due to the time commitment in this being much less than that of the later incarnations. As a kid this game sucked because it was all Mewtwo and Mew locally :/

Yellow wasn't that bad if you waited until pikachu put the bucket on his head you had a nice place to sit while fishing.

Of the first generatiojn of Pokemon games, I've only ever owned and played Yellow. It was so damn special to me and had a special place in my heart. BUT I LOST IT MANY YEARS AGO. ;____; PKMN Gold/Silver is also real special to me too. Too bad my file was destroyed.

i had red and blue when they came out, and i had yellow when it came out, and i still prefer red/blue.

Red/Blue gave you some options, and some chance to have an advantage against the first few gym leaders.

In yellow its like
first gym-BAWWW. ITS ROCK AND ALL I CAN FIND ARE BUG TYPES AND FLYING TYPES.
second gym- I WISH I COULD EVOLVE PIKACHU
third gym- BAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWW
fourth gym- I GOTS ME A CHARMANDER

BEST GAMES EVER!
Well... my first was silver, but whatever. I always have red in my Gabe Boy Color so I can play it.
Why?
'cause it's BA!

Yellow was my home, even through the waves of gold/silver/crystal and beyond. Even now, though some of the new ones are evolutions of old favorites, I still favor the original 151 over all others, even in cosplay.

i like red/blue better than yellow.
it allowed more freedom, and playability, rather than  just getting stuck at the first gym w/ 3 or 4 not very effective pokemon.

ButterFREE

ButterFREE

Butterfree wouldn't be that great of an option.
although, sleep powder could come in handy, he will generally rock throw.

Considering how few options you have at that point in the game, I'd gladly take Butterfree.

in a way, pikachu is a better option than butterfree.
butterfree takes 4x, where pikachu takes 1x from rock throw, and 2x from quake.
i much prefer those chances.

even if pikachu can't do any real damage.

But this is why i liked bulbasaur >.>

Why not use a sponge that could status affect the enemy? Even if Butterfree does get KO'd it's better to have a Pokemon at least try to inflict a status effect than to have Butterfree come out last and get KO'd to have no one capitalize on a possible few rounds of free damage.

this is a good point.
Does anybody remember if you can trade yet at that point? if you can, you can always do it that way?

I'm just wondering if butterfree is the only option there.

I can't clearly remember what other Pokemon you can catch at that point asides from the vunerable and oh so cute Pidgey.
Either way, not being able to do damage is a serious issue this early in the game due to resistances... I like to muse that the only reason Ash beat Brock in the TV series was because Nintendo wouldn't make any money (or a new season at that) if he lost :)

i small arrangement of bug types, and if you are lucky a nidoran, in the grass outside of pewter city.

it shouldn't matter though, because everybody knows red and blue are the better choices.

BULBASAUR FTW.

My pokedex on yellow was full and everyone was level 100, but I forgot the heat wave last year killed the memory. I turned it on today wanting to fight the elite 4 and remembered I had to start over :I

Weather effects, such as heat often don't bother gameboy cartridges, unless it is really really extreme.

If it got hot enough to wipe the memory, it would more than likely break the game.

It is more likely that the internal battery within the cartridge died, and needed to be replaced, which would leave the game working, but erase the memory.
