I would post this elsewhere but this is my home turf and i'm lazy! :P
was great to see you all at con (<3) blah blah, now down to what i want to say:
I'm a Japanese tutor who is in need of some work. I've done some tutoring for PCC and have had a few independent students as well. I'm pretty well versed in the basics of japanese both written and spoken and I CHARGE VERY LITTLE FOR ONE ON ONE PRIVATE LESSONS!
Here's a link to my Craigslist ad! I'd love to teach anyone who is interested!!

just so you don't worry i'm some kinda creeper kinda thing, I'm 16 and i usually let MY parents meet my students before One-on-ones to make sure THEY aren't a creeper :D
-
so, anyone else interested? ^^
-
As someone who has been taking Japanese for years and still cringes when people butcher the language, I applaud you.
People who read this, take her up on this offer!!!
-
I so would do this if I had more money. but I don't even make $10 and hour at my job.
-
craigslist says the post has expired. how much do you actually charge?
-

Not to spoil anything but...GO GET A DS AND BUY MY JAPANEESE TUTOR! WEEEEEEEE
-
I have the DS Japanese tutor, and it only takes you so far...
-
hehe...True..True...
-
i think real tutors are lots better than a silly DS ;;>_>
-
That, and the My Japanese Coach for the DS does nothing for your conversation skills. Trust me, practice speaking and listening. And kanji...

Are you conversational in japanese? I may consider taking you up on this after I brush myself up
on the stuff I already know (In my head I've got most of the hirgana and katakana and even a few
basic Kanji down but.... my mouth and hand don't remember that right now) I just don't feel comfortable
in conversation, my sentence structure is atrocious but I can understand (for the most part) what
other people are saying... Or is that more advance than what you are offering?

thats exactly what I do! ^^ I'm very comfortable speaking, and thats what i really have fun doing. I've been taking Japanese since i was 12 and have been to japan, so I've had a lot of experience. I tend to advertise as a beginning tutor because I don't want to intimidate people, but I'd love to help you with your conversation ^^

I wanna learn, just been too busy to take a class

i know :/ i'm that way about a lot of things

I wonder, if you hosted an anime night, and turned off the subtitles, how well you would do as a translator.
Fansub groups need translators every now and then. I don't know what they pay, but I saw one group looking for exactly such a position last week. Just before I broke the computer.

thanks for the tips ^^ I'll look into it. My only problem with that is that i've been pretty formally trained so i'm not super up to date on slang and stuff :-\
But i have done that before and I have at least a good understanding of the action (and pretty good translation for the most part)! ^^
-
Then after you master slang, you can work upon improving your regional dialects. Like Osaka's from Azumanga Daioh! Or Tina's island dialect from Ai Yori Aoshi.

I do Tokyo, and I can talk a bit like old people from the north! :D (its lots of fun and i sound silly ^^)

I've been told by people from japan that when I talk I naturally sound like I'm from osaka, the way I say certain words and the way I pronunciate things... though that may be just because I'm slow...

it usually has to do with just how you hear and stuff, but especially if you have a certain pace of talking, of you like to clip off words or something, it can sound like a different accent! ^^
