For those of you who missed Closing Ceremonies, our new macot is this one: http://www.kumoricon.org/images/galleries/mascot2010/aj.jpg
So, there is our basis for badge and website design for the next year :)

I saw this at the closing ceremonies... It looks very nice. Very nice indeed! I'd give anything to be able to draw anime characters (and other things) that well.
Though I have to admit it... there's just something about the eyes that bother me. I can't put my finger on what it is exactly, but there's just something about the eyes... :P

Ah, well, that's understandable. I mean, an umbrella isn't a very nice way to go...
Maybe you should start wearing umbrella-proof body armor, than these things wouldn't happen any more and our secrets could last for ages!

I think she's really cute! And stylish! <3 My friends & I agreed that we would totally wear that. I may have to wear that outfit as my casual outfit for when I'm not cosplaying at next year's con. <3 CUUUUTE.

Haha, I like that her eyes aren't gigantic puddly moe things. ^^ She has a very nice, smart look to her face.

When the new Publicity team is assembled, they will set the dates for the cover contests.
Publicity also designs the website, letterhead, flyers, posters and lots of other stuff. The Relations department will also need some design work done ;)

These have been selected by contest for the last few years, the same as the mascot, with staff voting. Usually these contests have been open from around April or May, to July. Here's the thread for the previous contests:

This one started as my #5 but slowly climbed up to #1 as I realized how it blew away the competition as far as detail was concerned. :) We had some awesome entries this year, but I'm happy to see this one win. The way it was drawn will also make for some really great printing. I'm a sucker for the light blue cloudy mascots, but if we're going to have a change, this is a good one.
By the way, about male mascots: I too would like to see one someday, but this year there weren't any that were detailed enough to make my #1. I think one of the male entries made my top 5, though. So if you've been thinking of drawing a male mascot, give it a try!

Also curious whether pairs are allowed in the contest. That way you could do a boy and a girl. I saw Anime North do that awhile ago. (Of course, they commissioned their mascots that year...)

I've been trying to suggest that people do a male version of our mascot for the cover guide contests ;) I think that would be pure awesome.

I think a girl + boy (or even family setup of some kind) might work better if it were also symbolic of some duality within Kumoricon. Since this is past 2010 for the new Mascott; maybe 2011+ we are probably looking at multiple hotels, and/or a convention center in addition to a hotel.

family would be good like minor badges have a kid/13+ have a teen/adult have a adult

There's also the 'unwritten rule' that the convention mascot has to have certain... appeal to those voting. Maybe it's best said as 'Fanservice ready'?

There are no rules that it has to be a girl. Some of the ones that went up for voting were boys.

We don't? I seem to recall that we used to. Personally, I thought it was a good requirement. It was a unifying factor.
But I guess it doesn't matter, because umbrellas always win points with the voters. Much like Sakura Con mascots usually have a sakura symbol or an actual sakura blossom somewhere on their person.

Definitely agree with this one. However, even though the current mascot isn't blue, she's got a bluish tint. So she could look good on a blue T-shirt.

So I have the sketches of my mascot, but I'm thinking of doing a collaboration with my friend cause she's great with Photoshop coloring. That way we can both get credit for the drawing. :3

People hated just walking across the street to the Hilton Tower...
Would they be like neighbors like the tower than? I don't know about others, but we're starnded in Portland during the con since we get dropped off. No car, and no money for other transport....
