Title: KCon Lite '09?
Post by: Washougal_Otaku on August 17, 2009, 02:17:07 pm
I was just wondering if anybody was aware of the possibility of another KCon Lte, and when/where it was going to happen.

I hope it's in November. That way we have Kumoricon in Sept., Halloween in Oct., K-lite in Nov., and Mewcon. Not that I know if I'm going to Mew yet or anything  ::)

I think we'd be hard pressed to have it in november.  Have to elect a new board first.
Title: Re: KCon Lite '09?
Post by: DancingTofu on September 14, 2009, 09:49:09 am
November's already pretty busy with Aki Con and Orycon happening.  I'd say we should hold off on worrying about another minicon until May, so that we can use it as a trial-version of the real con, since a lot of key staff tend to not re-register until March or April.

Last year's Klite was run by the previous Board.  Things are being talked about.  It's still in the infancy stage now.  Expect some activity and questions on this topic within a few days.

But something to start thinking about... what school club can offer space and to spread the word? :)
Title: Re: KCon Lite '09?
Post by: nikkiolie on September 14, 2009, 12:22:58 pm
Sweet. I think what might be a good idea is have it at the hotel. Not sure if they would let it happen or nor but it would give people a chance to get used to the hotel as well as the hotel staff get to know some of us a little more as well become more comfortable with us.
Title: Re: KCon Lite '09?
Post by: Jamiche on September 14, 2009, 12:25:19 pm
The thing to keep in mind with having it at any hotel.. we would have to pay for space, which means we may end up having to charge admittance into Klite.  The advantage to having a school club partner with us is they can usually get the space, which means the event is free.
Title: Re: KCon Lite '09?
Post by: nikkiolie on September 14, 2009, 12:50:03 pm
Yeah that is true, but I would be willing to pay to get in if that means the staff could be exposed to us cosplayers more.

Why not have it at PSU again?
Title: Re: KCon Lite '09?

Why not have it at PSU again?

The school anime or gaming club will need to contact us and secure the space.  But the pretty much goes for any school club... if they want to have it at their school, they need to contact us.

PSU is one option.  We are hoping that people will come to us saying that their school can host it and provide [X] sq. ft. of space and let us know what rules for vending and food would be.  We need to at least be able to sell Kcon registrations and have space for our content.  Additionally, it would be nice if we could sell ramune and pocky to recoup our costs and be able to bring in 2 or 3 small vendors.  We do expect that the school club that works with us to bring in this event will help promote the event.  Usually, we design and print the promotional materials and the club distributes it.

My thoughts~

* Sooner is better. I'd prefer it in fall/winter over spring.

* I wouldn't want to pay to get in.

* I liked it at PSU b

I liked it at PSU as well. I liked the area it has been held, there is more than enough room for everyone there :D And I would love to have it fall/winter. Maybe it could be around the holidays with a Christmas (or general Holiday) theme?

So now for someone to get a PSU club member to check this web page, and then make them talk to the club and get back to us.  Sounds like the worst waiting game EVER!!  More active roll ideas?

I REALLY don't like the idea of paying in order to go to this. Especially since I'm trying to get comedians to come to this, and having to pay may hurt things.

Post by: nikkiolie on September 16, 2009, 02:34:08 pm
I would pay as well. And Patrick I would give you a ride, don't worry :P

Yea I don't mind paying around $5 either.  I liked PSU as well.  And I like the fall/winter time for those of us who aren't going to many more conventions until maybe spring or kcon next year.

I prefer Vancouver over Corvallis.  Less of a drive for us P-Town people

>> See?  That just added to mine and auricles points we were making through IM

We were discussing the simple fact that a lot of Kcon-goers probably don't drive (we are making rather large assumptions here) and prefer the TriMet/Max because it travels all through the Portland Metro area and we also made a large assumption that probably most Kcon goers live in the Portland Metro area so the closer the better we think.

yeah I take trimet everywhere my parents give me a bus pass so I can go to school so yeah trimet is my essential I think it needs to be close to portland too.

The only way I can get there is via Trimet. So I still have my fingers crossed for PSU.

I live in beaverton...

I wouldn't mind paying like $5, that's nothing. less then the gas will be most likely.

dec/jan is Mewcon, April is Sakuracon, so those seem like bad ideas as those are 2 cons that are close so kcon people might go to those.
oh.. and Nov has akicon. fanime in may. anime-expo in july.
so maybe... March or June?

I say early December.  :D But that's just because my birthday is in late December and I could talk my parents into letting me go as a birthday present. .

Five dollars sounds fine for admission.

No matter how you slice it... is about 3hrs of driving plus hotel expenses for my GF & I so cheap admission is always cool. If only my house would sell already so we can move to a big city :p

Guys, just FYI, we are not running a poll on when people want this.  We will do there when, where and if we get space.

If you want to help ensure that this actually happens, please look to the other thread.

Well, it's a little late for this thread but you have a valid question.

Kumoricon Lite is a small event that gives you a taste of Kumoricon. Each time we do it there are different things going on but usually we'll have karaoke, video games, and a viewing room. Sometimes we also have craft workshops, a couple vendors, costume contests, or panels. Even if there isn't an official contest you should still cosplay.

I have videos of the last ones on my youtube account, you should be able to find them by searching for "Kumoricon Lite". I walk into a window in one of them.

Now then, let's leave this thread be. Once the new board is elected and announces the next Kumoricon Lite we can make a new thread for that one.  ;)

Nothing has been planned as of yet... we need to find a school or club to partner with us.
