Title: Invading Fright Town!

People think we're crazy for dressing up any other time than Halloween, than why not cosplay on Halloween?!

Fright Town is a series of haunted houses in Portland. A few people and myself thought it would be fun to go to this in cosplay! It wouldn't be bad, since I've gone there in costume before, and they didn't say anything. We can even have a mini photo shoot right outside beforehand.

Halloween versions of characters is very encouraged, but not required, and nor is cosplaying.

Tickets are $20 for all three full haunted houses. And you can print this coupon out to save $5: http://www.frighttown.com/coupon.html
You can also pick them up at some places like the Spirit Halloween superstore, and Dairy Queen. I will be bringing extras if you need one. Just look for the girl with long green hair and pink and purple stripes.
And if we get 25 or more people, we can also get a discount there.

Who: Anybody who's up to the challenge!
What: Attending the Haunted attraction FrightTown
Where: Rose Quarter Coliseum (has a MAX stop there)
When: October 30th, meet @ 6 for pictures, FrightTown @ whenever you want
Why: Because that's what's Halloween is for!

And also, my girlfriend (Kistiene) is planning to hold a cosplay/costume chess for those of us who are staying outside and have nothing better to do. So please, if you are interested, go sign up in her forum! We still need Pawns!!!!!!!

And a quick note...Please do not bring weapon-like props! They will not allow you in, and large props will just get in the way in the houses. So, if you plan to bring a prop for the photoshoot, please either make sure it can fit in a bag or don't plan to go through the houses. Those of us who won't be going through the house and will be hanging out, may be willing to watch your stuff. But please just be smart. Thank you.

Yeah. I know it's about two months away. But, it's better to start early. We'll talk about dates once it actually gets closer.

I think doing it the night before Halloween would be cool!

Exactly!

Wondering...What do you people think about the times?
Meeting at the Rose Quarter around 6 to take pictures and then heading down there between 7 and 8?

I'm just trying to not have people out so late, so younger people can come and not have to worry about riding the MAX in down town portland late at night...

And we could possiblly take some more pictures when we're done, if it's not too late, when it's darker.

Well I could come as Goku or, since Emperor Palpatine is considered dead but so strong in the force, there's no reason why he can't come back as a zombie and continue his reign of terror. He'll just leave his force lightning silly string at home.

I (and two other friends of mine who are also K-con attendees) volunteer at Frighttown as a monster. If you guys showed up any Friday or Saturday while it's open, I'll be there, probably in Elshoff Manor. I'd cosplay with you guys, but I get there at 4pm and spend the time until opening getting assigned to a spot, made-up, and costume'd.

^^ If I recognize any of you while you're cosplaying, I'll make your experience extra-scary, though~!

Oh! And on that note, NO WEAPONS!!! They might not let you in if you have weapon-like props. So, if you plan to bring any props, make sure it can go into a bag or something.

Tobi!!! I wants you to go!!!!!!!

If people would like, we could have a sepreate group that stays outside, so people who'd like to come to hang/photo shooting could and wouldn't have to worry about being alone. And people who are going in, could take brakes between the three "houses" to hang with them, and maybe do shifts...?

I'd be willing to do this. I get scared very easily, and sometimes have panic attacks...So, I might end up just not going through the houses and just hanging around in the area with others who don't want to go in.

Taking turns standing outside, if there's a group that doesn't want to go in, sounds like a good idea. It's all about having fun with friends anyway!

Exactly! There's a large open area that's also inside that we could hang out in. You only have to pay if you're actually going into the houses, so those who don't wouldn't need to!

I'm actually gonna have to debate with myself...Last two years I went and got too scared to even go through all of them, and so sorta wasted my money.......I think if there's a large number of people who don't want to go, I'll just hang outside with them. And by "large" i mean like 5 or more people...

And I'd like to make sure I have at least a couple of your phone numbers, in case the "outsiders" decided that they/we want to go up and take some pictures or something...Just so those who are in the house don't get lost trying to look for us...And we'll just do this when we meet there.

Decided to search through the Frighttown website and found this:

"Q: What isn’t allowed at FrightTown?

A: There are a number objects and activities that we ban at FrightTown in order to maintain a fun atmosphere and a safe environment for everyone, patrons and monsters alike. We expect all our guests to adhere to the following.

No running or pushing.
No confrontational behavior or harassment of the actors or other patrons.
No touching the displays or the actors.
No weapons of any kind.
No flash photography.
No video cameras.
No pets.
No lighters, matches or smoking.
No alcohol or controlled substances of any kind.
No Halloween masks, false beards, hoods, prosthetic makeup or anything that obscures your face.
Violation of any of these rules may result in you being escorted from the premises."

So, when dressing up, be aware that extreme amounts of make up on your face may get you turned away...If you plan on wearing make up that isn't normal (something other than blush, eye shadow, etc...), make sure you're not wanting to go inside...
If your cosplay includes you wearing some kind of make up and you want to attend FT, there is a bathroom inside that you could probably use to wash it off before going through the houses. Since we'll be taking pictures beforehand, it'd be nice if you could have a complete cosplay ^^

Also, video cameras and cameras are encouraged, but just make sure not to use them while inside the area.

Red the ninja...cannot wear his mask then, but still should be able to wear red LEDs on my glasses for red eyes. Emperor Palpatine is out, because he requires a mask.

So my backups will be Goku Super Saiyan or SS4, or Jason Silverheart my pirate OC.

Well, a bunch of us will just be hanging outside and that's free...I guess the only cost would be how you get there.

And as for makeup and masks and weapons and stuffs...I say bring/wear them, but just make sure you take off masks, clean off makeup, and leave props with those of us staying outside before you head in. Cause we're gonna be having a photoshoot, so wouldn't want you guys to not have your whole costume!

Also, I'd like to know who all is actually going inside and who will be staying outside with me? And all of you people who are still "maybes", I'd like to know by the 25th of October if you'll be coming or not. Please and thank you!

attending and going IN the haunted house...

We just need a few more people to get a group discount?!?!

Yes. Any of you who don't like haunted houses or just don't have the money for it, you may still go for the photoshoot and just hang with the rest of us who won't be going in! And I'll probably bring some activities to do, and all of you can as well.

So there's three haunts and they're all different.

Elshoff Manor - 8 This is the one where they go all out. There's dark rooms, fully animated rooms, and plenty of experienced staff to scare you.

Baron VonGoolo's - 4 It's mostly weird. It really is more of a fun house than a haunt. You walk around and look at stuff and every now and then there's a BOO moment.


The Chop Shop - 7 Slightly less scary than it could be. The third haunt always has some sort of specific theme. It's got lots of well built rooms that keep you moving but there always seem to be little gaps here and there where they let you catch your breath.

The big downfall of Fright Town that keeps them from getting to be a 9 or 10 is the crowd control. A haunt isn't nearly as scary when you catch up to the people in front of you.

I'm about to post about Pocky Club's own meet up over at Fright Town!

Actually Tom, we do have a form of crowd control. We scare people so bad they go to the nearest emergency exit.

And Elshoff Manor this year is AWESOME! I'll probably be working in there tomorrow night.

Okay.. now thats got me worried! I am a tad bit of a fraidy kat myself!

Do the actor people grab you? or Stand in your way of running away to the point where
you can't escape? I mean... I'm asking this of the people who work there but...

How likely is it that I'll end up cornered with a guy coming at me really fast with a knife?

Thats probably the only thing that'd really get me, I can deal with chainsaws and decapitations
and freaky stuff... but... If I don't have a way to run away... I might actually pass out! ^_^

I want to be surprised and scared, but I don't want to cause myself to go into a panic attack!

And I'm pretty sure, if you'd like, you could just buy how ever many "tickets" you'd like. So, if you only want to go through Baron VonGoolo's, you could, and not waste your money. It might be safer to just do that. Cause, I've wasted my money by going through all of them, and the two scariest, running out at close to the begining...

And, nyahaha, I'll put you and your friend as a maybe!

few years ago i ran out on their scariest attraction, it was just a room. it had furniture and what not and a lamp was swinging over our heads. Walking through it I just kept expecting something but when it never came for some reason it got my asthma going out of fear : / had to leave the attraction. Thankfully it was the last house we visited.

That's not necessarily the case. The actors might touch you, but if they do, it's on accident (happened with me last night). and the roamers : o forgot about those. Last years fright town we lost one of the girls going through with us, and shes the type who will go clinging to my arm with her eyes closed. I knew she would be scared as ****, so when we asked the actors they told a few of the roamers and they were looking around the house for her. One eventually found her for us and brought me to where she was xD though the people who work in these things look scary their often VERY nice

Thanks for all the re-assurances guys!

I am a huge horror movie/ survival horror game buff so, I can prolly handle most
things, I was just worried about maybe having a panic attack if cornered in the
haunted house! Sounds like thats unlikely and/or if happens, there are escape
options available to me. I wouldn't be tooo worried about being bumped into or being
jumped out at, that isn't a big deal, part of the experience I suppose! It'll be
interesting to see what all they do!

P.S. My friends and I are planning som super cool costumes, not anime but we are going
to be realistic versions of Batman villians, I am gonna be Harley Quinn, so there is a good
chance I may change my cosplay to that for this... unless I really get ancy to be Heather.

Okay, so I was talking about this with my friend today and I have a quick question about the Photoshoot-like-thing.

Where is that going to be? Because if my thoughts are correct Fright Town will be mega-crowded and you'd have to be crazy to try and get us even a small, not even worrying about if its good, place to take pictures. Yet if it's somewhere else we'd have to make sure everyone finds it.

Then to add onto that it's going to be dark by the time we get there, or near dark. Does someone have a good camera, or anything like that? Sorry if I sound like a weird person but I just wanna know. xD;

The Rose Quarter is a huge place. And even if there are a lot of people for FrightTown, there will still be a place for us to take pictures. And to meet up, I'm planning on being fairly close to the MAX station, b/c most people will be taking that to get there, and then we'll probably move.

And as for it being dark, I think there's light on around the area, so it shouldn't really be all that dark...And if all else fails, we'll just forget the pictures and just run around until we feel like setting up the chess match.

Also, if someone has a video camera, that'd be awesome for the chess match!!! I have one on my camera, but I don't know really how well it'll do.

Okay so, I wanted to ask. If we're not going into the Haunted Houses but are still going to the place, would you still have to pay the 15-20 dollars? I mean, I'm considering going in but if I have to pay that much money to just stand around (aka play Cosplay Chess xD) then I'd rather not even bother. I know this is a last minute thingy but still. That's a lot of money. xx;

O.o Romo...why would you pay to stand around? The fee is only if you go inside because they don't own the whole area. The money is to pay for the frights and decorations. They cannot charge people for standing around. However, they can have a no loitering rule but I doubt they will.

Unless I can find another long black wig, I won't be coming as Melfina. XD Kind of disappointed a bit, because I had worked so hard on this cosplay to get it finished for this meet-up, and it pretty much is, but Coco and I started making Yuusei's hair out of the wig, and we didn't finish. So I can't do either. :/

Maybe I'll come as Yuusei's Crow, though. Since I can't think of any alternatives. XD Maybe I'll even attempt to do my markers if I have time~

I think I might end up not going in. since I didn't get to work today I got no tip money and lost what I would have got at work. but... I don't know.... I might...

I can't find my cat tail or red sash (which I where as a headband thing.) For my costume. no cosplay... unless an OC for a cheap flip camcorder movie I will be making with my son counts as a character cosplay....
but... I could deal without the sash maybe, but she needs her tail.

belly rings are cool. I sadly lack the belly needed. But it's my own fault. I eat healthy and in a range to loose weight. But I get lazy and do not move around as much as I should and need to to loose weight. But I am getting better so thats good. I can fit in the shorts and top now for my future space pirate alien kitty outfit so I am happy, I couldn't fit it in it last year so had to modify it. Although I am going to wear the modified one tommorrow for the trick or treating thing downtown. ^^:

I'm sorry I was in a bit of a bad mood the whole time. xx I'm truly sorry about that guys, next time around I'm sure it'll be different. I thought this was pretty cool honestly, aside from not having a board or half the pieces. xD

When I went into Fright Town it was really wicked too. I thought it was going to be much scarier than it actually was. (Though I'll admit I screamed pretty lamely down there many times. ><) The lines took FOREVER though.

And Chibi-chan, wondering if you could find where that rule is stated, b/c I have never heard of it, and couldn't find it...

If was fun, for the most part...We had a lot more fun when we did the improve games than the chess match XD Kisi, Fate, and I were thinking that we'll do a meetup sometime that's for improve games and such.

Also, if we do chess again, we'll make sure we do it earlier, and actually make sure we had a board/players...

Fatechooseme; yes the plushies were fun but it was to much of a hassle. Its a lot easier just to have actual people instead of stuffed things. The improve is our best bet for next time. People were more into that then the chess.

And I know I saw you in there too. Unfortunately, I hadn't got a routine down, so I wasn't able to do that particular scare as well as I could have when you all went through. Plus, after I saw the first two people in the group, I thought you were a group of emos. But I did get the two of you that were in the back when you were leaving the garden.
