This year's 34th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine will announce next Wednesday that an Inuyasha Kanketsu-hen (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=10970) (Inuyasha Final Chapter) television adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi's manga has been green-lit. The anime will broadcast on Japan's YTV this fall and cover the story in volumes 36 to 56 of the manga — the final 21 compiled book volumes. The original staff and cast will reunite for the new anime adaptation.
Yes! They are going to finally end the story! ;D

Inuyasha being one of my first anime, I might watch this.

my fbest friend steph was the biggest fan of inuyasha but after seeing how the anime had ended, a promo for the manga, she apoligized to her family for wasting their time but now they are actualy going to finish it i wonder if she will give it a try

Much as I love the series...I kind of hope they annotate it a bit for the animation. The first anime series got, what, about a third of the way through the manga? Good lord, if they animate everything it's going to be at least another 200 episodes just to finish it out.
Personally, I'd like to see a few more Ranma 1/2 OAVs. Not holding my breath--though they did apparently animate another of the manga chapters as a stand-alone short for her 30th anniversary in the manga business--but there are a few of the final story arcs I'd really love to see animated. Not asking for a whole other series like this, just 3-4 OAVs.
I am pretty happy about the news, though. Looking forward to Viz getting it out quickly. With the instantaneous releases they're doing on Kyoukai-no-Rinne (Takahashi's newest series, manga started in April), and the fact that other current shows like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood are getting official subbed versions not long after hitting the air in Japan...I'm betting they're going to try for something similar with this. Inuyasha's still got a significant fanbase here. Sounds like the Viz staff's pretty excited about it. Check www.therumicworld.com, they'll keep you posted there too.
Just hope the animation's closer to the original tv series than the movies. The character designs were more appealing.
Also looking forward to hearing Yamaguchi Kappei again in this role. Nobody else could be Inuyasha...even Takahashi herself thought so!

I just saw that Toshifumi Yoshida will be at KumoriCon again this year. I wonder if he will have any info on the US release of The Final Chapter. If anyone would, it should be him. I wonder if they will try to get the original English VA's to do it, like they did the Japanese seiyus. Of course it would mean a long term employment for Toshi as well, Nobody else could translate all that as well as he did.
