If it were me, I'd probably go with the idea of making one.  $400 to $600 sounds like a lot of money for a costume.

Actually, it sounds like a decent price considering other prices I've heard. :-/

But I'd agree - give making one a try. Try Hancock Fabrics - they have a marvelous selection of colors, and you can pick up some "Stitch Witchery" tape. No need for sewing! Just double the tape and iron it for longer than recommended, and it'll hold strongly enough that the fabric is more likely to rip than the seam. A day or two of work can save you a load of money.

p.s. For accessories, there's a great party/costume store in Northgate whose name I forget at the moment.

my elk costume cost around that much....I ended up making the wavemaster staff myself.  But give makin it a shot, whoknows it might turn out better than the one you wanted to buy. Good luck!

Yeah, I made it!! --__--#

Anyway, (lazy friends aside) give it a shot at making your costume.  You'll save some money and learn somethings about sewing!!! ^__^

You could put that $400-$600 dolarrs to much better use. Save it for the con! It's so much fun to make your own costume. I did for the first time last yuear and the costume came out pretty good. All the supplies for it (i.e. paint, glue, fabric) cost me maybe $50.

... Leave me alone you damn horny drunk...*wrenches free from Shadofox*  Yeah, I spent about $100-150 on two costumes I made but then again I had a lot of the materials I needed at home so I saved myself a lot of money.  Lok around and shop for the things you need... try Wal-Mart!!  ^__^  Also Hankcock and Jo-Anne material stores have a lot of stuff as well... oh yeah, and craft stores... but try Wal-Mart forst... they're usually cheaper.

I don't really do commissions anymore, but I've sold a few in the $500 range and gotten comments back like, "Are you sure you changed enough?"  Some costumes really have a lot of details.

I'm paying 350 for my seras victoria outfit >.< but that's only because I'm getting it done in really high quality fabric from limebarb.com

the gun is expensive too...like another 150$ >.< i better freaking LOVE this outfit ;D

and i really think you do get what you pay for....i researched and emailed alot of custom costumers to get the ones that i liked. you don't want to get a costume done by someone who doesn't know what they're doing >.<

-pb-

p.s. i've sewed every other costume that i've made...so i do love sewing, it's just that seras victoria has a complicated collar, and all those patches and things. and boots. and orange hair :D

^^ very cool. Since I sew my own stuff, I feel like a whore for even thinking of buying from them. Hee hee. I really want to buy a replica of Tidus's Brotherhood sword. For my warrior Yuna ^^
