Just curious, I wanted to know the percentages/ratio of males to females that cosplay at Kumoricon. Yup yup yup. So vote in the poll and post a comment if you want.
I'm male, by the way.
-
Hmm, this is pretty interesting, but you already know a great majority of cosplayers are female, right? :P
-
yes that is quite true alot of girls cosplay more then men but I think it makes it nice to have men in cosplay however even if there is only is a small mijority.

Oh yeah, I know. I just wanted the ration of how many males are there to females. Maybe 1 in 5? Or 1 in 3? Or possible 1 in 10? Me and my friend were arguing about this and I was like, "1 in 3." And she was like, "No, 1 in 5." So I decided to do a poll on the Kumoricon forums. I know it won't represent everyone who is planning to go to Kumoricon, but at least it's better than nothing.

Yep, it's nice to have both genders cosplay. It gives off a wide variety and it's more fun, in my opinion.
-
It is it makes it way better because if it were a group of just girls it would make me so sad.
-
Well on the forums there are more female than male cosplayers.
But at the con it's about 1.5 females : 1 males.
-
yeah it's about 1:5 it's what I have seen.

Cool. A new ratio. That's neither my ratio or my friend.

Ah, so approximately in six cosplayers who attend Kumoricon, one of em would be male. I can see that.
-
yeah saddly.
-
Sometimes its so hard to tell! XD :'(
-
And the majority of female cosplayers cosplay as male characters!
-
Annnnnnnnd the crossplayers come and screw up the stats 8D!
And the majority of female cosplayers cosplay as male characters!
Heh. It might be close, but I have to agree.
-
There is going to be a lot more girls than there are boys. It always seems to work out that way :P
-
Because girls just love to dress up and show their stuff!
Now, an interesting poll would be the age rang of cosplayers...

do it.
-
Yeah ^^
-
I am fairly certain I have an xx chromosomes.
-
LOL
-
I won't give a lecture on biased statistics..... :P hehe.

That would be interesting....I would say it is mainly girls ages 14 to 17 *nods*
-
I would have to say it's around there.
-
I knew, before I even voted or saw the results, that this was going to be a very imbalanced ratio, and I was right, haha. I've definitely observed cosplay as a female-dominated activity. I do it, and I'm male, but yeah, women run the show if you ask me.
-
I knew there would be too. I have been to enough cons and seen enough pictures online to be able to tell easily.
-
You're a psych major, Nikki. Tell us, why is cosplaying dominated by women?
-
I would say the attention...also roles that we learned growing up. for girls it was ok to play dress up but not for guys.
-
Yeah, that is interesting, being able to see the obvious results of those attitudes developed in childhood.
-
And this is what happens when you design your characters like that, Square-Enix!
... Yes, obvious male is obvious. And to think at least two of my cosplays have a very heavy shoujo demographic.
-
haha, Square-Enix with their wonderfully androgynous-effeminate character designs?
-
I just thought of somethin' - what about (but nearly impossible to gather since cosplays change frequently) the gender of cosplayer vs. the gender of the character cosplayed. If the gender of character was looked at would the proverbial scales be more balanced?
After all, Square-Enix does love it's male leads, no matter how effeminate they may be. :P
-
Hmm, interesting idea. I think in that respect, there are definitely more male characters cosplayed than female characters. Crossplay is almost like...one in three female cosplayers.
-
I can't bring myself to crossplay yet. I'll probably get there eventually. But so far I've stuck with female characters.

I cosplay way more males than I do females. I have three females I've done and...six males, so double the amount of female cosplays :P

XD. Yay. Another ratio to a different problem. Maybe someone should start this poll up?

Are you really going into psych major? That's pretty cool. And that would be a good reason why more females cosplay than males.
Though from where it stands. The ratio at the moment is 8:28 or approximately for every 4.5 cosplayers, there would be 1 male. I also think an age poll would be nice with genders included, maybe someone should start that.
-
Yeah I am a psych major. My last year will start in September then I will have my bachelors and I will go to work to make money so I can get my masters :P
-
There is far more females that cosplay than males, yet many males will complain about how hard it is to find a girl to date who is into anime and cosplay hehe. Alot of that might have to do with geeky people being generally shy about the opposite sex thou. Probably also depends on where ya live.
-
about that....I find that there is some issues with guys and knowing how to approach girls. Most of the time they come off too strong and that can scare the girls away :P
-
OMG I am only one of ten... :o
-
Man club, right here. *whoot* ^_^
-
LOL. u guys are funny~
maybe more females visit the forums that than males...
-
I think it's just a completely accurate depiction of the con attendance in general, heh.
-
that's is qute true.
-
LOL. only 41 cosplayers this year... so sad! LOL. :P
-
wow that is sad.
-
lol, I didn't mean this was all there was to Kumoricon, I meant it is a seemingly accurate representation of the statistics. ;D
-
True.
-
I know. I was kidding! :D BUT! How do ya know it's accurate? :3
-
It just seems to keep with what I've observed in my three years of Kumoricon.
-
LOL. only 41 cosplayers this year... so sad! LOL. :P
LOL. This made me laugh. If it actually came true and only 41 cosplayers showed up to Kumoricon, then it would be a pretty lonely convention.

XD. Man club. Sounds funny. Yeah, this seems like a pretty accurate representation of Kumoricon attendees.
-
Hmmm.........
Hmmmmmm......
Can I trust your observations, Monsieur? LOL. Just kidding! It sounds about right. I don't really pay attention to any cosplayer's gender 'cause sometimes... I just can't tell if they're male/female. ::) Although...sometimes, it's downright obvious! LOL!
-
heh, I've rarely been fooled, it's just something I tend to notice or pay attention to, I guess, lol.
-

Yeah, would be sad, but I would be one of the 41!! LOL. Even the first year of K-con had more people than that! :3
-
Man club, right here. *whoot* ^_^
YAY I am not alone!!!
-
I'm sorry, I'm a female crossplayer, stealing the males light. XD Shame on me, but yeah, like I couldnt find ONE male L cosplayer, it makes me angry! :(
-
wow, I thought the number's would be the other way around... But it's good that we have so many females cosplaying, I think it's because a women can usually pull off a cosplay of either sex better than a male can.
-
(Still sad about no male L cosplayers) Some anime boys would be better cosplayed as chicks, like the really girly ones or ukes in yaoi, at least thats what I think.
-
I know a boy L cosplayer ^^
-
That just brightens my day, I need more, once I was cosplaying Misa and there was a male L cosplayer. Kumoricon 09? We were in this tree filled with dn cosplayers
-
I wonder if the statistics are the same in other countries, or even if it varies from state to state?
-
Overall I've seen more girl cosplayers no matter what country the pictures are from, but maybe that's just the amount of people showing off are girls. That's a really good question though, it makes me curious.
-
I really wish guys would do more cosplaying, I personally liuke cosplaying as guys because I dont like most of the anime girls.
-
*cough* I'll just leave this here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6muLBxzITE&feature=related

I am suprised there is not a transgener option up ther,
