Title: 18 classification of cosplayers for con attendies
Post by: nikkiolie on July 01, 2009, 10:16:55 am
Alright someone posted this on cosplay.com and I thought I should share it will all of you. I did not make this in any way shape or form so don't get mad at me :P

http://www.firstagent.net/cons/cosplay.htm

Out of that list I think I would be a Diva XD

lol, I still don't fit into any of them. I think the closest one I would fall under is Chick Magnet (although let me clarify that doesn't ever actually happen to me, nor is it my intent, lol).

If there was some category for FF side characters or cosplayers who like to make big bulky props and weapons...that'd be me, heh

Don't worry we can be the The Cosplay Mafia together :P only with more than average costumes XD I know! We can be the other group that comes along that does it better XDDDD

Ah, I don't think I fit into any of those. D':

Actually maybe Jailbait-Chan. x.x Because I do have some really short skirted cosplays that my mother certainly does not aprove of..and I'm in highschool next year...and I'm planning a Chii cosplay sometime in the future. -Shot'd multiple-

Haha, we'll both be in cosplay mafia when we do our Higurashi and Vocaloid cosplay, because of the huge group. :33

The reguler otaku:

likely to cosplay as: -anything from D. Gray man to tengen toppa gurren lagen to kuroshitsuji, something not too popular but not too obscure

defining traits: -Cares about their cosplays and puts actual effort into making it or busts there butt to buy it, and then in the end sometimes has a REALLY hard time finding the right hair for the cosplay (don't you hate that?)
 - RAIDS the vendors hall either buying every cute/awesome thing they can get their hands on, or not having enough money to get anything because they spent all of their money on their wicked awesome costume so they just drool.
 - is stopped by people at LEAST every 5 to 10 minutes to get their photo taken or being flirted with by a dirty old man
Can I take a picture?  REALLY!? I LOVE you SOOO much!

Do: go up to them and ask for a big hug from their fandom raped adorable butt

Do not: wave pocky in their face and expect not to get bitten for it

P.S. Now hows that? this is more of what I would be, I thought I'd make my own seeing how none of them fit a lot of people this actually among us is probably the most common. My sister is sooo cute and whenever she sees this guy we first saw at kcon 07 cosplaying as Jade from Tales Of The Abyss she cutely yells out "jaaade!" and goes and hugs him...now whenever she sees this guys she does the same things even when he's not cosplaying as Jade....=_='

Now that is an accurate description. I can see why it wouldn't be on the list, though, because it isn't an extreme description, more a collective of all of them (thus its accuracy, heh). I like that one, and see a lot of myself in it too.

The walking musical:

Likely to cosplay as: Vocaloids, Gravitation, Lucky Star, The Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, or anything with a catchy song/dance.

Defining traits: -They can usually be found randomly inside, or outside the convention area, doing some sort of dance like Hare Hare Yukai, or Motteke Sailor Fuku.
- They'll often be found in the karaoke room for large amounts of time, and usually compete in choreography contests.

Can I take your picture? Most of the time, they're happy to pose with their michrophone, or in a dance pose.

Do: Stop to watch or record the dance they are preforming. ;3

Don't: Video tape it and put it online without their permission.

Yeah, I thought this one was needed, because so many would fit. xD

I don't really feel like any of these :/

rofl, this is pretty funny xD I think I would fit into...Jailbait-chan, LOL. Especially since I will be Rikku from Final Fantasy X-2 for a good portion of the con weekend, haha.

If I had to make one specifically for me though, it would say...

The Hardworking Cosplayer
Likely Cosplaying: - A variety of characters in the same day
Defining Traits: - Actually pays attention to character detail
May I Take A Picture?: Please do, ask first
Do:  Ask for hugs, she loves them
Do Not: Hug too long, your stalker trait is showing

lol, seems like a really boring category but, there are lots of people like me whose one and only hobby is cosplaying! I wear my costumes to conventions to meet people who like the characters and series I cosplay from; it's a great way to make new friends~ I wonder if anyone else here fits that category? :3
Title: Re: 18 classification of cosplayers for con attendies
Post by: EveofAbyss on July 01, 2009, 01:17:13 pm
Hm, does Jailbait-chan refer to the age of the character being cosplayed or the age of the person cosplaying? I don't think I understood that one, lol
Title: Re: 18 classification of cosplayers for con attendies
Post by: iluvshijimi on July 01, 2009, 01:21:30 pm
Hmm, well it said, "Defining Traits: - A high school girl wearing something mommy definitely did not pick out for her", so I just thought it meant anything risque-looking on young people, haha.

Applying that critique to my Rikku cosplay, I'm not a high school girl, but I still look like one, lol, and I showed the costume to my mom and she frowned at me xD Still covers enough skin to be admitted to the con though, so yaaay! :D

"Myriad of characters from various yaoi series and/or Yu-Gi-Oh."

...That's just sad, fandom. XD Those animes shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence. XDD!

Post by: iluvshijimi on July 01, 2009, 01:28:49 pm
Haha, I saw that xD If they subtracted the Hot Topic stuff, I would probably fit into that category too, lol *currently cosplaying Junjou Romantica and will be cosplaying Seto Kaiba in a few months, HAHA*

I'm... Partially Post-Modernist ('cause I plan to do genderbent characters...), Chick Magnet (because I cosplay from Ouran and Hetalia), and Cosplay Mafia (because I'm part of a group), and I've got a little brother who's the Adorable Kid.
._.

I like the categories that people posted here. I'd fall mostly under Regular Otaku, but I don't get stopped that often for pictures.

I'm none of those. If I had to make one up I'd be the obscure cosplayer. I usually dress as things that people don't normally know about and get excited when people actually know who I'm supposed to be. I would write a description but I'm lazy.

Etto... I don't know if I'd fit under any of those (though I've seen them plenty of times xD), but I would probably fit under The Old School Tribute. Slayers is pretty old school, right? I think that's unfortunate. D:

I say I'm part Crossplayer(worse) and part Cosplay Mafia.  Rather interesting overall I think

Well, with the categories listed... I may be post-modernist/cosplay mafia this year but all past experiences have been the reluctant "chick magnet" with no intent... and it wasn't primarily chicks, either. o_O

I would adore one con to be "the walking photoshoot" though, always wondered what that would be like. XD

None of the real ones fit me but I like the one Shay made.

The walking musical:

Walking musical, ho yeah~

Very bizarre and really pretty insulting that all the ones specifically identified as crossplay were given as bad, and were all male to female.

Anyway, think there's a term for someone who goes as supporting-to-obscure characters from popular franchises?

You're a Crossplayer (worse), except without any negative side-effects.

Me?  I guess I'd be exempt from classification; I'm a gamer. :P

For me, it'd be...

The Sore Loser
Likes cosplaying: -Characters from obscure games.  In English.
-Cute things.  In English.
Defining Traits: -Appears to be in extreme pain when not near close friends.
-During rare bouts of only minor pain, exhibits "attention whore"-like tendencies.
-Is seen eating American food, or crying softly while eating anything else.
May I take a picture?: Yes!  Yes, please!  This is my favorite game and I'm soooo glad someone recognized...You do know who I am right?
Do: Speak English clearly and calmly.
Do Not: Pretend to be Japanese, or yell, particularly about anything Japanese.

It's gonna be weird cosplaying as Karren because of her skimpy outfit, I've never cosplayed as a girl before, and I have...-sigh-....very large breasticles.
Title: Re: 18 classification of cosplayers for con attendies

I don't fall under any of them, but I still found it amusing. ;D

@sekitan bun - O_O... Don't come near me while I'm in my Wario cosplay.

Oh wow, that's awesome.

I'd be under a few of them combined, but not just one.
Title: Re: 18 classification of cosplayers for con attendies
Post by: leonmasteries on August 03, 2009, 11:58:53 am
I don't fall under any of them, I wish I knew which one I would fall under tho. I am glad I don't fall under the narutard catagory. I will read naruto, or bleach, but that's about the extent of it, I refuse to cosplay as something overly popular for a searies that's alright, but not the greatest thing in the world. I tend to try to go for outfit's I would actually look decent in, try to make sure it look's close enough to the character, and make sure it won't be used bye a lot of people.

Closest I would fit is post modernest or Diva. But I'm not fully like either of those. :/

It is a really funny list though. XD
Title: Re: 18 classification of cosplayers for con attendies

Now that I think about it, I know several people who fall under Diva Delux. (SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO unapealing, and seriously don't do the character they're cosplaying, justice. That's one reason why I cosplay as Wario.)
Title: Re: 18 classification of cosplayers for con attendies
Post by: leonmasteries on August 03, 2009, 12:11:24 pm
I know what you mean, a lot of people tend to just half do the outfits... as for me, the outfit I have this year, I changed the boot's for him (because I own a pair of boot's that I think would look much better on him then his actual boots) and his boken (because I couldn't find his actual boken)

wow, I dont know where I fit, I mean I've cosplayed; Isshin Kurosaki, Dr.Stein, Katana of the Turks, and now I'm attempting Ashitaka

I didn't see any that I really thought I fit under in particular.... I am doing a Pokemon Gijinka though so I guess I am a bit of a "Post-Modernist"

XD

Well, you can keep me off the Narutard list because I only went as Naruto once to lure in Shriekers for laughs. That said, hmm... Ryoga one year and Kunio the next... I'd say that's Old School Tribute. But this year I'm going as Dr. Insano from the Spoony Experiment's videos, sooooooo I suppose that's Mr. Irony.
Title: Re: 18 classification of cosplayers for con attendies
Post by: Kumi-chan on August 13, 2009, 02:13:21 am
Already posted on cos.com, but most definitely Old School Tribute. When Ranma 1/2's your primary cosplay obsession, it's hard to be otherwise.
I do cosplay from Inuyasha, but other than the series most definitely do not fit the category that one's stuck in. It's Rumiko Takahashi, therefore I have a cosplay from it. My fixation on prop detail for Kagome is more of a defining trait for me than the fact the series was super popular about 3 years ago.

I've had a few recent projects from series less than 15 years old...Princess Mononoke and Escaflowne are both still over the 10-year mark at this point. Modern classic status, at least.

There really needs to be a category for those of us who are fanatical about fabric choice/detailing/construction.

"The Craft Masochist"?
Likely cosplaying:
- Super-elaborate artbook version of that one outfit the character wore in season 2
- Clamp-anything
- Historical/military/fantasy characters...actually historically and culturally accurate, or with fantastic weapons and armor
- The one really, really kickass and spot-on accurate [insert popular character here] at the con

Defining traits:
- Plans out each "project" like the military invasion of a small country
- Protective to the point of neurosis about their trailing skirt/handcrafted weapon/beading/elaborate wig/etc.
- Willing, able, and likely to have shed blood in the process of creation (just not on the fabric, please, god...mental breakdown)
- Willing, able, and likely to shed your blood if you damage their masterpiece
- Probably spent more on fabric than on the hotel room, con pass, and dealer's hall combined
- Everything they're wearing is custom-made...yes, that includes the shoes. Let me tell you about those...

May I take a picture:
Yes. Multiple angles. Say, do you want a close up of this section?

Do:
Compliment their material choice/resin-casting skills/talent at embroidery/welding.

Do not:
Touch! maybe with permission...probably not
Ask where they bought it.
