Title: Artist Meetup Anyone?
Post by: TurboSaiyanJason on December 23, 2008, 09:08:02 am
I'd like to call a cosplay meetup for anyone, but specifically for anyone who likes to draw and wants to try putting it to use. My question is when would you like to meet? I'm aware of the barrage of events happening in December and January, but would somewhere around January or February work? I am a manga writer looking for artists for my first story which I've been planning and tuning for years.
Is there a way we could squeeze an event or two in?

That sounds fun. I'm not really an artist but I'd love to see your manga's plot line. I too am a writer so I'd like to come. January or February would be good :D

A good start. My major plot points in the story have more to them than at first glance. It's like approaching the Death Star. You think it's big enough when as you get closer it seems to have much more to it. I also have an anime in this dream story to be worked on after the manga gets released. I was going to run 3 seasons/volumes and then let the fans decide if they want it to continue.
So yeah I'll share the story plot at the meetup, but the story is a modern day sci fi/superhero love story *whew* it's as passionate a story as I am about the work I put into it.

I'm an artist I guess. but not the best there is.  :-\ I'd still sort of love to come though.

There's always someone better than you even if you're an ace. Bring samples if you can of what you're best at. Faces and expressions, bodies, backgrounds, vehicles, whatever works.

Of course. This isn't just to benefit me. Though I would like to recruit one or more people into working with me, I did say this was an artist meetup. Even I might try to learn a thing or two. Maybe we could do a group comic. Sit in a circle and pass a blank notebook around. Each person draws one frame then passes it on. I did that back and forth in my Japanese class last year and it turned out quite funny. The classmate I did it with just did it for fun. She didn't even think of carrying the story so long. If I can find the pages I'll bring it along.

that sounds like a fun activity. ^_^ that should be a thing to do in an art/comics class. it's a bit of practice and fun to cool you down.

The first part was a stick figure story between me and Link fighting over a girl's heart, then after that's settled, sephiroth appears ready to fight, but gets attacked and carried away by rabid fangirls.

Well unless no one is buys on the 14th February is pretty much packed, so when in January could work?

I might be up for this depending on time and place. I'm going to Art School and should practice more I suppose...

EDIT: Is this just sitting about and drawing though or critiquing and stuff as well? I think a group critique could be grand.

It can be both. I know what I'm looking for, but this is for everyone to come together and talk about what they are looking for and give tips to others and bring in some best works.

That sounds decent then. Do you have a date or a place set up for a meetup?

Well I'm a noob organizer, so I'll ask where's a good place for everyone to go to that won't be mauled by rain or crowds so much? I know somewhere between noon and 2 are good times. other question is when is a date that a lot of people can make it to? I know if I throw a date down half of everyone will say "I can't make it that day." I am hoping to go to MEWcon so I might see some people there and talk about it.

Possible MEWcon cosplays:
John Cena (WWE)
Red Christmas Ninja
Trunks (Dragonball GT)
Jason the Silver Pirate (Amtgard cosplay)

I'll throw in a possible idea for a place to meet and say the library since I hope we wouldn't be yelling or being disruptive. On a date I would say weekends or a time after work and school. For me it'd preferably be Thursday-Sunday of any week after the 10th. Just ideas though.

Sounds workable. I'd say Sherwood Library but I don't know how many people are willing to drive or ride the bus there. What other library or place works for everyone? Maybe the new Tualatin Library or one of the malls.
