I realize this has absolutely nothing to do with Anime or J-Rock, but if homophobia and bigotry get under your skin you might wanna know that Monday (the 24th) on SW 13th and Market the Westboro Inbred Church led by Henry Kane looka-like, Fred Waldon Phelps will be protesting Portland State University. I think it would be rather comical if a group of otaku could get together and do to WBC what these fine folks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Apn4HL_iWAE) did to a random group of preacher-tards at Fanime '08.

The reason the link didn't work is cuz there is a bad word in there (y'know, the one which also doubles as slang for "cigarettes") I didn't wanna leave it in and risk getting bannz0rd. Also, I think the most comical thing would be to get a group of people to do Caramell Dansen across the street from them, either that or Rick Roll (but that's beginning to get a little played out, IMO) Miko Miko Nurse would be fine too, lol...

I can't copypaste some of the crap they are saying there to here as it is rather offensive, sorry.

Wouldn't it be more intimidating if you took pics and notes, as if compiling dossiers on people who show up? Then find out who they are and where they live and then send them lots of junk mail, or gift subscriptions to oh hmmm, dunno, but I'm sure you can find something repellent.

grrrrr...I wont even get started here. To many not nice things to say. Cant make the protest but I am also apauled by the protesters for the Silverton mayor. He is the first Trans-gender mayor and he is getting religous anti-gay groups protesting. HE ISNT EVEN GAY! He is a man who is with a woman, but he believes he should be a woman. Even if it appears to be a lesbian couple, they both are straight! To a degree... :)
If it were up to me the supreme court should say that this is unconstitutional. If we are going to put so many state-wide benifits for marriage than we shouldnt discriminate. If our country is still using the religious aspects of marriage than do they not realize that MANY MANY people are turning from religon. Organized religon is on a downfall, our government should remain neutral. To represent everyone.

LOL. I guess I got carried away with a different tangent.
What is unconstitutional is that we are discriminating against a miniorty of people. (example) What is the difference between a Gay Black man and a Straight Black man? Should one have more rights than another? If we, as a nation can look back with regret for discriminating against African Americans in the past than wont we feel just as terrible when we look back at the Minority of Gay people that we are not allowing full rights too?
It makes no since why we, as a nation, are allowed to discriminate against Sexual Prefence, and not Race.

My Fiance use to grow up in silverton and Stu, the individual in topic, use to own the movie theater there. He would always dress in womens cothes and be very open in his choice of wardrobe/language. I dont believe he openly talked about it but I could be wrong. Stu has been with a woman and it was after he was elected mayor that he started making serious physical changes, implants and such. Stu is still with the same woman and is supported by her and many in the comunity. He was a very excentric but played a huge role in Silverton politics so he was voted mayor. Even after the change (which isnt compleate) Stu is recieving support from many in Silverton where he has made a difference for years.

I got this in a e-mail from the PSU WRC
at SW 13th & Market from 7:30-8:30am to protest the PSU Queer Resource Center, the inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity in PSU?s Equal Opportunity and Nondiscrimination Policy, and PSU?s gender-neutral bathrooms.
The PSU Queer Resource Center honors Freedom of Speech ? the concept of being able to speak freely without censorship. We also recognize that the Westboro Baptist Church and their message of ?God Hates Fags? may be disturbing and evoke an emotional response. Freedom of speech allows us to engage in a dialogue about sexual and gender identity, and the QRC strongly encourages PSU students to do so.
In response to Westboro Baptist Church?s protest, the Queer Resource Center will be hosting a counter demonstration at SW 12th & Market to showcase the PSU and Portland community?s support of GLBTQ individuals. People are invited to congregate at the PSU Queer Resource Center (in room 401 of the Smith Building at 1825 SW Broadway) starting at 7am on Monday, and at 7:15 we will walk down to the site together. At the counter demonstration, there will be resources about how to advocate for the rights of sexual and gender minorities, listening tables for people who need to talk about their reaction to the protest, and opportunities to connect with other individuals who are saddened by the mission and values of the Westboro Baptist Church. We will also be accepting donations on behalf of SMYRC, Portland?s Sexual Minority Youth Resource Center.
We highly encourage students to not fuel the negativity of the Westboro Baptist Church by engaging in their protest. There are more constructive ways to combat homophobia in our society. Those bigots don't realize that their arrival actually helps unify people against their hate. Don't let the early hour allow them to win the news coverage. Get out there and show that love, not hate, is what Portlanders believe in. See you there.

*chuckles* iv tried "pretending" before at other rallies, and honestly I always break. I'm straight to the bone, tho I have absolutely no problem with any sexual orientation. Growing up in a halfway house kinda gives you a fresh perspective on things and teaches you acceptance and tolerance.

And about the Silverton mayor, I heard on the news that she's been Silverton's mayor for many years, this is just the first term that she's ran (and won!) as openly trans-gender (at least, I think that's what the news article reported). She must've been doing something right for Silverton to get re-elected multiple times- changing her gender is not going to change how she does her job. Further proof that a woman can do just as good a job as a man ;D.
Well, we have freedom of speech in this country, and that means listening to the bad alongside the good :-\.

Arg, I missed the whole thing due to the fact it was all too dang early, and me and my mate were putting the down payment on our apartment across from Clackamas Towncenter. Oh well, maybe next time they'll come and protest at a viable time and more easier to get to place. Then I'll bring my Guy Fawkes mask and a boombox blasting high pitched J-Pop and happy hardcore techno, lol. Did anyone from this forum make it, and if you did, did you atleast take pics or post a Youtube video?? ^^;

But HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That is the funniest protest I have seen in LONG time. That totally made my day. And made me laugh histerically. I laughed so hard the baby started kicking!

These folks are seriously pathetic. We talked about them in GSA today; they're an anarchist, racist, sexist, anti-christian cult. In simple terms, they are the Ku Klux Klan. Fortunately, our society today is far less bigoted as a whole than society was when the Klan was at large, so their protests are merely a farce.

They don't even have a consistent message. They say God hates fags/America/Canada/Sweden/Unions/Germany/you, but they don't offer a way to allow God to love, like how most Christian churches say "God doesn't like gay people, so stop being gay". WBC just says "God hates fags, haw haw".
God hates America supposedly, but what country is paying for the tax-exemption rights for their church?
