In 2006 there were a couple of people who held what was my first Cosplay Church. It was a pretty unofficial event, so I don't think it would have been on the schedule. Now I'm just curious if anyone knows or has heard if there will be a Cosplay Church this year? Like I said, I doubt it would be on the schedule because it probably would not be official, just a meet-up in a hotel room. I really liked the concept of it and if I had a chance to attend again, I'd definitely want to.
-
I was so sad that I missed that last year, I had something unexpected come up, I hope they do it again this year too so me and the Fam can go.
-
I would love to go but the fact that the Naruto shoot is at 9am Sunday morning.....
-
Yeah, could interfere. If I find anything out, I'll be sure to post it here, though.
-
Alright, that would be nice.
-
Ah, I hope they have one this time too o.o
I was so bummed that I didn't make it last year, due to the fact that I slept in a little >.<;;
-
Did they even have it last year? I hadn't been able to find or hear anything about it. But yeah, hopefully they come back. I found some old post from 2006 and Mercygraves (the person who led it) was saying they would aim to be back in 2008, so yeah...hopefully they will be, heh.
-
Is it self explanitory?
-
Pretty much, heh. If you're curious, there's the old threads where people were describing and discussing it: http://www.kumoricon.org/forums/index.php?topic=2317.0
-
I think it would be a lot of fun
-
Yeah, it definitely was last time I went.
*And by the way, your avatar is awesome. I love the red tint! And sorry for totally being in the background and potentially ruining it, lol.
-
I could always do an "unofficial" on Sunday morning. It be from 8 to 9AM because I have the Host Club Tea Party to run after that...
If you wanted to or ended up hosting one, I'd mos def come by.
-
Sunday 8 to 9 would be great that way I wont miss the naruto photo shoot.
Thanks Eve. I also took another one and gave it a blueish tint. It was one of the ones in front of the cave thingy so it's kind of like an ice cave picture now. I couldn't do a whole lot with the pictures with the software I have now....and I can barely see you in the background XD
-
Ohh that does sound like fun. I can't stand church, but Cosplay Church sounds much more entertaining.

heh, which aspect of church, if not just all of it, do you not like, if you don't mind me asking?
-
Well, the past year covered Christian images and references in Fullmetal Alchemist. I know there is already a panel on Religion in Anime, but maybe a more focused (or broad, whatever you feel) look at themes of Christianity of salvation in various anime. That could definitely be interesting and leave you a lot to elaborate on, possibly.
And I know you're always kind of full-to-the-brim as far as your schedule goes, Mustash, so if this is too much, by all means don't feel like you have to take it on for any of our sakes. It'd be a nice thing to attend, but definitely not at your inconvenience. :)
-
They talk about things I don't understand and am not interested in, and then they SING. That's another thing that gets me. The lectures are just so boring, especially since I'm not religious.
-
Ah, gotcha. Yeah, if you have no background in it I can see how it would simply lack appeal. That's the cool thing about Cosplay Church is that it puts many Christian themes and concepts in a context that the otaku could easily understand and (hopefully) find some sort of interest or understanding in. ^_^
-
Yeah Cosplay Church definitely sounds more appealing then regular church. I know there's religion in some Anime's, and that part I'm okay with.
-
Also: Does anyone have an idea that would be appropriate for my sermon?
I have always been interested in the history of christianity in Japan.

That could be really interesting. If it isn't too heavy or extensive of a topic, it could definitely be one I'd be interested in learning.

oh, I guess I meant the year before then...?
lol either way, I still really wanted to go xD
-
Could always try explaining Evangelion... now thats an anime loaded with christian religion, and yet warped into gigantic robots, gigantic monsters, and emo-ness.
-
Also: Does anyone have an idea that would be appropriate for my sermon?
Jesus :)
-
^ Can't go wrong there, heh.

That beats my idea.

lol I'd say that that's a safe way to go xD
-
well, you could talk the (mis)perceptions of christianity in japan along with its various protrayals.
@sayda
my mother's church was always like that since it was a korean one.
although, I actually have to say the church I had while in basic training(for Air Force) was the best. At least the Protestant one. they would put the whole thing in a more modern context.
-
so this is something for Christian im guessing or any Religion???
-
The message would come from a predominantly Christian standpoint, yes, but that does not mean only Christians are welcome. Anyone is welcome to attend and listen, discuss, and enjoy. ^_^
-
i think i will pass Christian have been very mean to me my Religion beliefs clashs with the Christian beliefs i kinda of scared of most Christian now cues of how i was treaded i have VERY few Christian friends cues of that
-
As far as I'm concern, christianity has many many ways of interpreting the bible, so it I consider it of one's personal opinion that can be debated. just that some people don't want to debate <_<. I suppose I may have been influenced by dogma and believe God has a sense of humor. like I'll comment to my roommates that I believe the platypus is God's prank on humanity.
-
Alright, well I'm sorry you've had bad experience and poor exposure to Christianity, but if this event does actually happen, the door is always open. (Even if the event doesn't happen, the door is still open, lol, you know, for talking or whatnot). ^_^

lol, there is no question God has a sense of humor. Look at the creatures of the world, heh, as you mentioned, the platypus or the baboon, haha. There's some goofy ones out there.

ok thanks thanks to them i cant walk 50 feet bye a church i to scard that its all going to start happing agin
-
This sounds pretty interesting. I'm not religous but I am open to the various trains of thought that are brought to the table by different religons. I might go to something like this to further expand my horizons :)

Ah, that's lame. Whatever happened, I hope you can get past it someday. I hope you can get over your fears and let yourself meet someone who can be your friend and believe in Christ. There are scary people in all factions and sects of life, but that rarely represents the whole of the group, you know? We're not all scary, heh. ^_^
And I'll just throw this in: try not to let your past experiences with Christians shut and seal the door in your mind to the possibility of God. One can't judge the perfect by the imperfect (meaning that humans are forever going to be flawed and even the best Christian is never going to be able to fully represent God to anyone), so yeah, just keep that in mind.
But anyway, hope you can meet some people to lay those fears in your mind to rest.

ya most hate me alot think im the devils daughter with is weird cues Buddhist and like more then half the school has tried to kill me cues i read a book about evolution in class once and when they ask me if i believe in it i said i did and then half the school tried to kill me
-
Hmm, scary. So you said your school (which is Buddhist) showed a lot of hostility to you when you read something about evolution? Sorry if I didn't get that right (kinda hard to tell what you meant, lol).
-
no im Buddhist my school is public school and half are super Christian Russians(really half are) and are really mean
-
Oh, okay, gotcha. Sorry about the misunderstanding.
And, again, I'm just sorry you've had such a bad experience with Christianity. I hope you are able to feel welcomed by and, likewise, welcome Christians into your life at some point.
Anyway, since this thread is about the event, I'll just say hopefully if the event happens you feel led to come by. I can promise you you wouldn't be treated as your schoolmates treated you. Either way, ^_^
-
i think i will and i will never be come a Christian im very committed to my Religion i have a shine in my room for mention and every thing i go to Temple almost every Sunday
-
I suppose I should point out that I'll be crossplaying a High Priestess(Ragnarok Online) and I'm thinking of wearing it to this(for the irony and it fits). And yes, I am a christian so I think that says something.
I'm pretty open minded and laid back when it comes to religion. Part of my open mindness is has to due with my beliefs, but I'm not going to go into that here.
-
i really want to bring my nenju (VV i wish i could spell that right i know how to say it but not spell) cuse i would bring it if i was really going to Temple
-
Hmm...I never heard of these, but If I can I'll drop by. I don't really have a religion myself. So if anyone asks me if I believe in God, the Devil, and all that, I'll probably wont answer since I'm not sure myself on what I believe. So I'm staying Neutral for now. I'm ok with whatever other people believe is there life, but I think it would be interesting to hear other peoples opinions about cosplay, and all that.
The only 'bible' I have ever read has been the 'Gothic & Lolita Bible' Best Bible ever out there for me. :D
-
wow Seraph you're back from the dead. I haven't seen you on in ages ^_^ Glad your back
-
@nikki
hehe yeah its been a while. I tend to come and go on the forums.
-

There is actually a religion in anime panel too might wanna check that out as well.
-
Okay, a bit late, but any update on this? I haven't been to church in a few weeks due to everyone in my family vacationing except me (what?), and I enjoyed 2006's "panel."
It's sad how many awful "Christians" there are these days. I mean, even if the Bible does say some things are wrong and we aren't to go down that path, it's SUPPOSED to be teaching love and acceptance. Also, after taking evolution, I can EASILY see how that fits into the Bible and makes sense... I won't start a huge discussion here, but if anyone is skeptical and curious, then can PM me. 8D;;
But yeah, I'd love to go again this year, especially since I've become a lot closer to Jesus recently. Oh, another thing... If this is organized, could I be told what room to go to in advance? We'll be leaving closer to 8, so I might get there after this starts. I know in 2006 they had a guy roaming the halls with a sign, and I just followed. 8D;
-
I kinda spaced on this a bit, mustash said he was planing a speech for us sunday at 8 - 9 not sure where the meetup is going to be?
