Title: The official thread for the VonDan’s Leather Panel
Post by: Vondan on April 24, 2006, 07:08:04 pm
I’m going to do a workshop on using leather for cosplay outfits and accessories.  I have not decided what the demo or project will be yet

What would you like to see done bearing in mind we have 2 hours, one for lecture and one for hands on practice?

A few ideas I had

A Naruto Head band in leather and steel (with etching demo)
A Link Vambracer from Twilight Princess

Hey...there are some leather detailings that are on my costum this year that I was just going to reproduce in cloth, but I would gladly offer my services as a model if you would make them for me!

show me what the costume loks like, are there picttures of the character on-line

A couple of the people  I am and may do work for said they would swing by my workshop to sashay around and model the work if they don’t have a game tournament scheduled at the same time

They asked if I wanted a Yojumbo and I said yes to model the samurai Armour, I tried to get Kylite to volunteer for it but for some reason he don’t want to.

I would think any kind of holster that could hold a weapon that needed to be peacebonded would be popular.

I can make just about any holster or sheath if I can see the weapon to be housed and then get correct measurements AND if I can not barrow for a few days find a toy gun or real sword laying around or make a something close from a block of wood to use in a wet mold.

I used a piece of 2x4 and some closet rod to make the mold for this one, let it dry over night and assembled it an hour before the party.  I have heard of actually wrapping a real gun in saran wrap and suing that when making a holster but no one has let me do that yet.

one of the last chances to ask what you may want to know about.    And every one bringing an aunt gets extra credit

A Thank you to every one who came for my panel on leather in costuming.

I had 12 guest (more than beginning cosplay, I’d woot but I’m to old and dignified for that) and no one walked out until I was running over the time (un like all the other panels I visited ware guest left partway into it.  At the panels ware I realized I knew this all already from art school or hobby experience I still stayed to be polite)

I would certainly welcome any feedback or questions and suggestions.   As I had said this was the first any thing I had taught since first aid in Scouts 20 years ago.  I had very little time in the month before the con to prepare (really I had 10 months but who does real preparation until the month before the con) and if I do this again I hope to be more structured and build a more organized setup for demonstration and doing projects on site.

I did not get any ones name or forum handle during the class so I have no idea who to thank or ask individualy for comments.

Hey there kids.  Now we only have a little over 2 months until the next con and I'd still like any input for my Panel for K Con 2007.   I know they are short of panels and may take anything but I'd like to know if there is still any interest and what you alls want to learn.

It has been suggested I should think up a snazzier name to promote the class.  Last year THEY just used the first line of the application description and called it making costume stuff with leather or something like that.  Any ideas for a name here are a few I had

“VonDan Hates seeing the kids spends hundreds of hours and dollars making a fantastic costume and then use cheap vinyl boot wraps and accessories”

“Working with Beast Flesh”

“If animals can wear it so can you”

“Leather accessories last forever”

"Pokemon Skinning: You gotta Wear them All"
