Title: Moving Out
Post by: Gryffinclaw Princess on September 18, 2010, 05:40:08 pm
So, I'm trying to get out of my house (rawr, family issues).
I want to move to Portland but I don't know if I can until after the winter holidays which will probably end up being very awkward and tense.

But on to the main point of this!
I need to find good priced apartments (I'll probably be getting one with FateChooseMe cause she also needs out of her house) and a job in the Portland area.
I know it's like...really early to be looking for a job that I won't be able to start until around January or so but even an idea of where I could look when I get there would be great. [I have a food handlers card, too, so that's all good]

Same deal with apartments, it's early but I need some good places to look into.

And I'll take anything I can get so don't be afraid to suggest something peoples! I love you all~<3

Work: Fred Meyer's.  Do you have work history?

Apartment: Look into student housing and low-income housing.

I have no work history. I've always been too busy with school to ever get a job.
But I had a 3.86 Cumulative GPA and graduated 16th in a class of 575. So I'm hoping that will back me up a bit.

Yeah, try Fred Meyer's.  Safeway's also good.  It's crappy work but it'll pay the bills and there are openings all the time.

why not have me pay rent and you can still go to school
seems like that should work

The place I live is 800 ish a month for two beds... sorta in the middle of the price range, though, I think. : ? So maybe not. But there are lots of cheap apartments in my area, though they are about a half hour away from most con events.

Thanks Tofu. I'll remember that. ^^

Griff : D: I would feel bad if I did nothing to help out!

Invader : I live four hours away right now... 30 minutes would be nothing. >.>;

Check out Lovejoy Station (really nice, low-income, kind of on the high end of the price range but nice and good location), Multnomah Manor (dirt cheap; this is where I'm probably moving into), the Terrace at Columbia Knoll (in the middle of the other two I just listed), and look into Beaverton and Gresham if you don't mind a max commute to get to downtown.

Post by: Gryffinclaw Princess on September 18, 2010, 11:58:52 pm
Griff - Yes, I would... I would need to do something to feel like I was helping out.

Tofu - Kay! ^^
I don't mind distance as long as I'm closer than now and can get to a college for school when I get the chance to take classes.

Yeah, try Fred Meyer's.
I do not approve of this idea.
Well, depending on where the Fred's is. AVOID BURLINGAME AT ALL COSTS

also, i need to move out too, but i am in a similar dilemma.

EDIT: HOLY CRAP! I just googled "Multnomah Manor" and it's like, 3 blocks from where i live now

well the first step is deciding which part of town you are going to kove t. each are has a diversly different price range and group of people. My best suggestion is inner SE. The demographic is mostly lower middle class families and a lot of School goers. However that area is also flooded with Yuppies and hipsters especially along woodstock and Hawthorne. There is also deep SW and Beaverton. Out there you will find mostly upper middle class and a lot of richer families. Everything is spaced a bit too far apart though and jobs require a littlemore. however much can be said for the people in that general area. I'd stay away from deep SE as crime has generallly shifted from the interstate corridor in No Po to the long stretches of division andd 82nd Ave. There are a few up and comiong places in North and Northwest portland Most considerably the albina district which is becoming one of portlands best flourishing communities. However it's not the most estabilshed are and the demand is high there. There are however lot's of job opening in that area due to many new small businesses. As well there is much easy access to school in that are because of PCC cascade campus nearby and the Ywellow line max which goes Directly to PSU.

You can try looking up on craigslist.  That's how I found my current job.  There's also homes & apartments available there.

Yes~<3
I really want to work staff for K-Con so hopefully when I move down there I can be more involved. ^^

Today my mom was talking about time lengths
Two days until my step-dad's birthday. 15 until mine. 77 until...something... XP
104(?) until New Years.
And I slipped in, "100-something until I move out."
And she went on and then she paused and went, "What?! It better be longer than that cause New Years is only 104 days away. D<"

I'm going to try and slip more hints through the year and then drop the bomb once I know I have a place to live down there.

Do you know where on staff you want to work?
Title: Re: Moving Out
Post by: Gryffinclaw Princess on September 19, 2010, 06:54:23 pm
Thanks Wash! ^^

I don't really know where I would like to work.
Anywhere I am needed works just fine for me as I'm not really picky. As long as I still get time to cosplay and be with Griff, I'm good. ^^
I'm fine working with people or without but with is harder. I'm a leader type so when someone doesn't step up and do things, I get agitated and take over myself to make things work better. I'm a pretty organized person and I'm good at taking sloppy things and cleaning them up in both efficiency and appearance to attract people. Plus, I like being busy. Sitting alone somewhere and doing nothing makes me antsy...

Charity Auction staff.  You'd be gathering items for the auction, working at the table in the Dealer's Hall during the con, helping to move things to the auction location, and helping out (somehow) at the auction itself.  It's quite fun; plus, I'm running for Relations this year.  If I get it, the Auction will be one of the things I'll be responsible for.
Title: Re: Moving Out
Post by: Gryffinclaw Princess on September 19, 2010, 07:27:06 pm
Pft, you just want me to work under you. XD
But it sounds fun as long as I am not sitting alone at the table. I would needs my company or I would entertain myself which may or may not end up being a good thing. >.>

Anyways, even if I can't work staff this year, don't be afraid to come and drag me to help out with something if you need it. ^^
Title: Re: Moving Out
Post by: Washougal_Otaku on September 19, 2010, 07:32:21 pm
Sort of.  I just want to make sure that all of my departments (assuming that they'll all be mine) are fully staffed, and the auction is pretty fun.  I'm hoping to have enough people working the table so that there's never just one person scheduled to work at the table, thusly allowing possible bathroom or food breaks, and making it easier to answer questions when many people come to the table.
