Title: A few random questions
Post by: nerdtastic on September 05, 2009, 01:17:27 am
1. Can we bring backpacks or bags with us?
2. Can we bring food/water bottles?
3. We can leave the con and come back the same day with our badges, right?

1. Yes
2. No
3. Yes

The hotel sells food and water, by bringing in our own it starts a conflict of interest. We essentially take business away from the hotel by bringing in food.

I know everyone does it anyway. Just keep it out of sight and you'll be fine. Did you notice that staff preservation wasn't around as much after Saturday? That was why.

ok, i can understand the no to #2 for that reason, but how many people con goers and non con goers ordered pizza and had it delivered to their rooms? i travel quite often for work and have never had an issue bringing outside food and drink into a hotel. why do you think they provide a refridgerator in your room. if they only wanted you to purchase their stuff, they would not have them.  However the k-con staff bringing in food and drinks does create a conflict of interest. If the hotel wanted us to only purchase their food and drinks, they should have set up more booths for that instead of just the one downstairs in the ballroom that was open a few hrs and the gift shop.  once these were closed there was no place to get anything inside the convention except the restaurant (which is not owned by the hotel).

Haha well I brought my water bottle, there's no way I wouldn't have had that in the heat that was the con.

A water bottle can be brought to con.

We just can't SELL bottled water to the attendees.

Bringing food into your private hotel room is fine. The convention (or its vendors, programming, and other officially affiliated agents) selling food without permission from the hotel, is not. That's the difference.
