Okay, this morning, my mom discovered a bunch of lice in my hair. We don't know where I got it, but because the incubation period for lice is two weeks or so and I've apparently had it for a couple days before we found them(I thought it was just my dandruff like usual) that means that... um... early con goers may want to be a little cautious. I was there, though wearing a wig and probably got it after that, but yeah... Better safe then sorry!
Also contacted the people I wasp lanning to stay with during con...
But does anyone have any tips on getting these little buggers outta my hair before the con?!

Wow, that's weird...I'm sorry to hear that. I've never had them myself, but after doing some research I found this, and it seems to be supported by quite a few others.
Using a shampoo that has coconut milk in it will help, from what I heard.
But tried and true--Head & Shoulders. If you wash your hair with that it keeps lice away.
But to kill them all now--mayonaise. Believe it or not.
You have to take room temperature mayo (not Miracle Whip) and spread all over your hair and scalp. Put a shower cap on over that and wear that for 2 hours. It will smother the lice and condition your hair really good! After the 2 hours, wash your hair (with Head & Shoulders, if you have it). It takes a couple of washings to get all the mayo out, but it's so worth it and much more cheaper than the other stuff. Plus the other stuff burns your hair & scalp.
You'll need to make sure you wash your bed linens too, and check for lice in your room, carpet, clothing.

My niece--Has 4 kids in school and they have had severe lice problems in the past.

there is shampoo to actually kill them, I don't know because I've never had them... But you can take the extreme route by shaving your head... Don't know if you want to do that... but any way, here's a website that might help:

Use the stuff to kill them, you can get it at drug stores, it is about $10 and should do the trick in one or two tries. Make sure that when you are using it that you are washing your sheets and pillow case in HOT water to get rid of any that may be there. You wig may also be a problem but I am not sure. If you haven't worn it since the early con then anything on there should be dead.

I AGREE WITH EVE! That's what I did last time I had lice and it went away waaaaaaaayyy faster then trying to comb it out or using store bought shampoo stuff! So yeah, Mayo it up! I would do it a couple times just to make sure though. ;)

Nix, I think it's called. You can get that at your local drugstore. And wash all your sheets and clothes.

Oh boy... thanks guys! Just got back fro mthe drugstore and I plan to pretty much do everything suggested. xD And now, I haven't even touched the wig since early con, so it should be fine. I also talked to my friend's mom, who's a hairstylsit and she said that hand sanitizer and tea tree oil shampoo help too~ Graaaah my head itches! *goes to get her mom the treat her*
This is the first time I've had lice that I haven't gotten from someone else *we think* xD

Oh, oh, definately tea tree oil!
That and mayonaise like others have said works.
The best way is to cover your hair in it, then put a plastic grocery bag over your head and let it sit for an hour or so.

It was so hard to get rid of them on me, I had to get my hair cut supeh short and crap put in it everyday. Ugh.

I would do nix then do the mayo treatment to be extra sure.

I'm pretty sure I know who you are, Serika. xD At the moment Ive got my hair up and saturated with hand sanitizer; then wash with tea tree oil shampoo, then the mayo, then wash, rinse and repeat. Then blow it dry and go through it with the electric Robi comb to kill the rest of the little bastards >: D
And don't worry, hopefully they'll be gone by con, but if not, I'll be ultra careful about it.

Yeah... surprisingly, I think they're nearly gone. Maybe because I've been obessively mayoing, picking at, scratching, washing with tea tree, blow drying, hand sanitizing, and zapping with the Robicomb all day. xD *still obsessively combing with the robicomb.*

Another thing to do is to take HOT showers and use a hot curling iron or straitner after blow drying it. That will kill the eggs. Keeps the lice from comming back and it works. (I was a nanny and the kids got lice and boy was it a process every morning and night to take care of their hair)

ya, it's stinkey, but it's supposed to kill a lot of them, because they are ingesting the juice that's on your scalp.
