This meetup is about Bagels, because bagels are tasty. Please bring the following:
-Money to buy bagels with
-Clothing
-Board games, DS/PSP, card games, stimulating conversational topics, et cetera
Chaos Cafe and Parlor (http://www.myspace.com/chaoscafe) is a hole-in-the-wall establishment that produces, in my opinion, some of the best food imaginable. Their bagel sandwiches are filling, delicious, and artistically crafted to dazzle the bagel enthusiasts' senses. The address is 2620 SE Powell Boulevard, Portland, OR 97202, across Powell from Cleveland High School.
Afterwards, we can migrate to Kenilworth Park on 32nd and Holgate to enjoy a fine summer day. Bring your frisbees, hacky-sacks, guitars, or whatever you feel complements a pleasant day in the park. There is a Trader Joe's Grocery Store a few blocks east of the park where you can go if you would like to pick up EVEN MORE BAGELS (at quite the affordable price), beverages (remember: no alcohol in public parks), chocolate, or whatever else happens to suit your fancy.
MAN, TYPING THIS MAKES ME FEEL SO BOHEMIAN. I JUST WANT TO HUG YOU ALL. :>
Oh, also, please let me know if you'll be there so I can inform Chaos ahead of time.
RSVP List:

Let's go somewhere with-
Wait, why the heck are you having a bagel meetup? ='O
-
So that we can bask in the presence of
one another bagels and enjoy bagels.
-
August eh? Hmmm~ I'm not sure when I'll be free for meetups but I'd love to do a BYOB gathering at the convention, maybe on Pre-reg 8~D
-
A random bagel meetup. Huzzah!
I'll go, just pick a day to bagel-tize.
-
That's a good idea, although I may be pretty pre-occupied on pre-reg day. Depends on whether or not we run into problems with equipment going to the wrong place again. Assuming we don't have any problems there, I should be free for a late evening BYOB meetup.
I'll take a look at some calendars and try to have a few candidates for when this might happen.
EDIT: i have returned from my epic journey to determine some candi-dates for this, and I have achieved the following:
Saturday, August 8th
Wednesday, August 12th
Saturday, August 15th
Tuesday, August 18th
-
Late night bagels, yum~<3
If it's BYOB maybe I'll try and bring a bunch from the local bagel place, and we can all share our exotic bagels with each other.
-
I WANT.
-
This is fantastic! XD
-
Anyone want to give some input on dates?
Just say which ones you can make it to, which ones you can't make it to, and pick one or two that you'd prefer.
-
I vote for the 12th. I think I'm busy later in August, and there are like four meetups already planned for the 8th.
-
The 12th sounds possible for me too.

What's the 4th meetup?
1. Harry Potter Movie
2. North Clackamas
3. Bowling at Sunset Lanes
4. ?
-
OHGEEZ D:
I couldn't find any on the 8th when I looked (which kind of surprised me; I guess I didn't look closely enough), so that means the 12th is winning thus far. I agree that sooner I better than later, especially for something like a bagel meetup, because people don't have to plan ahead of time to have cosplays and such prepared. :P

That would be why I said like four. In that sentence, I was using in the same way as "somewhere around." There are a lot of meetups planned that day.
Tofu:
I'm pretty sure I'm free on the 12th, but I'll need to check. For a bagel run, I'll probably just wear lolita. Is there a "dress code?"
-
As long as it's clothing, we're kosher.
Legally, we could probably get away with less, but that might get sketchy. I'll probably just wear something vaguely pleasant-looking. Definitely not my suit though.
-
I'll be free on the 12th.
-
So, location is still up in the air. Is anyone partial to anything in particular? I'm pretty open, although I do tend to lean towards Chaos, since I can pretty much roll out of bed and I'm there. :D
-
Oh yeah, I'll be wearing clothes.
Maybe I'll throw on my mask and call myself a spy.
-
THIS SHOULD BE SOONER THEN LATER.
:3
-
So, for the record, I'm open to the 9th, 10th, and 11th as well.
I'm actually open to pretty much any day in August. :P
Or really pretty much any day of any month of the year.
Or any year, really.
-
Then I vote December 6th 2010.
-
Okay, sweet! I'll look forward to it! I can't wait! :D
Can you still make it on the 12th though?
-
Do it at Sunrise bagels. It's a small walk from the Sunset Transit center :D
-
I shall come, but not for the bagels, only......
The Cream Cheese!
-
I want a berry bagel. :3
Kay, thanks.~
-
*Can't go on 12th.* Darn it.
-
You should make this on Friday Charles D: I have work and school on most weekdays.
-

Chaos is about 20 times better (conservative estimate), and a lot closer to downtown. I can respect that it's conveniently close to your house, but it's really not practical, especially if you're not even going to be able to make it.
Also, in case you haven't noticed, I'm busy on Friday.
-
No need to sound like a jerk about it Charles, I was just actually suggesting somewhere. Considering that a few of the people that are coming to this live in the Beaverton area and the Max is not far away, I think it's pretty practical. Please don't act smarmy towards me because you don't like what I said.
-
Sorry if I came off as snappy. The friday bit got to me. :/
I personally wasn't impressed with Sunrise bagels when I was there. The point here is to enjoy the best bagels we can. I've heard from a lot of people that Noah's Bagels are the best in town, and I know for a fact that all the food at Chaos is of an absolutely fantastic grade. Again, Sunrise Bagels simply doesn't exude top-tier quality, which is what I'm aiming for here.
-
Yeah, only bagels I've had in the area are Sunrise and Whole Foods so I just suggested what I thought was best in my mind :P A bagel is tasty either way though. We should go to this epic bagel place sometime so you can show me what a real one tastes like apparently.
-
Alrighty.
So, since nobody is speaking out for Noah's, and I haven't had a chance to check it out personally, at this point it is looking like Chaos is the place to be.
Just a quick run-down, bagels at Chaos are $2.50 for just a bagel with a spread (cream cheese, tahini, hummus), or $6-$7 for a Sandwich. They don't use any meat or meat products in any of their food, and most items are vegan or have a vegan alternative. They're on 26th and Powell, which is accessible via the 9, 10, 4, 33, and 75. It's also easy access for bikes via Sellwood (from South), Hawthorne (from North or West), or Division (from East).
If you are going, please make sure to let me know, so I can let them know we're coming, rather than just showing up with a group of 10 or 15 people. It's a small establishment, so anticipate a reasonably long wait. Remember to tip well and be respectful of the venue.
-
Okay, I just checked, and I will be in town on the 12th! I will most likely be able to go, but I need to check with a couple of people to see if they can come with me. I will end up bringing two or three people with me, the same ones who came to the nickel arcade meet.
-
Alright, I added you to the RSVP list as "fleur_fraise (+2 guests)", Let me know if you need me to make changes to that listing and I'll do so. :>
-
What time on the 12th?
-
Well, since nobody else has had an opinion thus far, how about 1pm-5ish? I generally don't wake up until 3pm, but I can make exceptions. Would that time work for the majority of people? All of the people?
-
Seems like a good time as any.
-
Unfortunately, it looks like I can't go to this >: Sorry!
-
1-5 sounds cool. This can be a good reason to test out my modern Inuyasha cosplay. Or, since vash does donuts, why not have a red ninja do bagels?
(>>)
(<<)
(^^) Yum!
-
TSJ and MotP, I've added you both to the RSVP list...feel free to confirm or deny as is accurate. Fleur, I've removed you as well as the +2 guests from the list. Let me know if this is not accurate.
If you're going to cosplay, just make sure it's not obtrusive and don't expect photoshoots. This meetup is occurring for the sake of good food had in good company. If you do cosplay, please don't attend "in character".
It's raining now; if it's doing so tomorrow, I'd recommend this become a bagel and soup meetup (their house soups taste amazing on a rainy day...everything about the café is actually really pleasant on a rainy day IMO), and we nix the park.
-
Red the ninja will come along to the bagel shop. Why? Because I need a bagel, I know I need a bagel, and the cheesy cheesy creamy cheesy cream.
-
Ok I will come ^^ But I would say we should do this around 2:30 ish. I also will bring my girlfriend
1-5 is kind of a wide range of time
-
Well, I certainly wouldn't mind having a chance to sleep. How would other folks feel about pushing the time back an hour or so? If the conversations are fresh and the company is good, I could certainly see myself remaining there for 4 hours, including a few minutes waiting for food and ordering, and an hour or so of actual consumption.
-
Sorry Charles but something's come up and I can no longer make it.
And I was looking forward to having some bagels too.
-
Well this will give me two more hours of sleep before I come down. So I'll be arriving around 2, meaning I'll be an hour late or a little early.
