Ok, lets try it one more time. :) 2010 metal gear solid! I haven't seen any mgs group cosplays, and I think it's about time we did some thing about it. Oh my gosh, I am so in for Where's the Snake and crying!! Can't be Otacon without the near-constant tears and panic. XD
And if we have another Gundam or Eva at next year's con I'm so getting a picture of Otacon like, worshipping it or something!!

I think that if we get a big enough group we should consider a skit. We have enough witty people in here already! I have stage fright but pre-recordings make acting so much easier, haha.

LOL. I love all the ideas that are already coming out. This group is going to be the best! XD I like the idea for a skit if people are interested, and my bro-in-law has recording equipment. We should wait awhile before we decide, and to see if more people are interested. But not too long. Just let me know if anyone's interested in a skit. we can powwow on the forums, or meet to discus ideas. just a few things to keep in mind. :)

Sadly, I think we would get in trouble at the Hilton if we played that box game in public space. :/
I could be wrong though. Maybe we can find some place out of the way -or- find ways of being creative.
But moving on, @Hisuji - I tried to see if Josh wanted to join and he hasn't answered me every single time, so I'm assuming that he won't dress up (although I wish he'd just say no, so that I wouldn't have to assume). We need to find a Snake. I'm pretty sure that's an important character in MGS XD

Heh, yes, it is very early. I am not continueing my work on Otacon until next year.
As far as knowing others who would cosplay from MGS... I'm not too sure. But I'll ask around. Posting on other sites that have activity year round would be a good idea. Coscom for example has a large MGS thread that is constantly active. The trouble there would be finding K-Con attendees. =/

I agree with mattstotts46, a list on the front page would be very helpful and present a more organized group. =) And oh my gosh, I love that scene, haha, it's hilarious!
makichan - Wow, that'll be a task... The only gun I ever made was Irvine Kinneas's shotgun and that thing was like, chunky and totally not based in reality. I'll search around for something that could be used as a base for that though. Tricky thing about guns and cons though - too realistic and you're gonna get mobbed by authorities. x_X

Make the base out of wood then as rubber or some kind of moldable plastic to make the edge of the shoulder butt, the handle, etc. Use very short nails or screws to put in the place of the screws on the gun, possibly get an actual scope to attach to the top, maybe use hard lastic tubing for the muzzle, and learn how to paint it very well; study pictures of it.

A good idea would be to cut out the guns outline in wood, then either add on the rest of the pieces on top or carve into the gun-shaped wood to get the lines and design, then adding the things like screws, scope, muzzle, rubber, etc.
You could probably find some good tutorials online~ That's what I did for my Yuna Wings and when looking up how to make Leon's Chicago Typewriter.

Granted, the only character I'd want to be, would be Snake, but I don't think a girl running around with facial hair, would be a very convincing Snake...o.o;;

Hey - never say never! There was this cosplayer from Team Fortress 2, I think the character is called a Sniper, and we all totally KNEW it was a dude - facial hair and all - then BAM, female voice. Coolest thing ever. I give insane props to that cosplayer and wish I had gotten better pictures. XD
So, this video is a little slow paced but just the sheer number of MGS cosplayers is awesome... And the time paradox is amusing - Naked Snake, Solid Snake, and old Snake all in one setting? Not to mention all the others they have!!! And the fact they had the balls to do this in a MALL! I dunno about where they're from but pull out that many guns (fake or not) in a mall here and you'd be getting the red exclamations from security before you could find your cardboard box! Okay, okay, I'll stop rambling and give the vid. XD

I am going to try -TRY- to do Raiden... not sure how that is going to turn out especially since I can't start it until I get back from Japan. Eva is my fallback person. But I will do metal gear in 2010, and if I can't do Raiden this time I'll be him next time.

When I was sick with the con cold (and wanting to practice my Sniper Wolf accent), I had a really raspy voice and I'd lay in bed saying, "I am lung-shot. You cannot save me." After which, My boyfriend would turn to me and tell me to knock it off. XD
And then I'd continue by saying something like, "I was born on the battlefield..."
It was hilarious.

I know a whole family who take place in theater related things, so it shouldn't be too hard for me to come up with something for the facial hair.
But it's still currently up in the air, until I find out if I'll have the funds to complete a Snake cosplay.

I personally think that you should go with MGS2 if you don't want to be frantically putting it together as soon as you come home. Better that than another rushed costume. :-\
As cool as he looks in MGS4, I know that it would be a total pain and a lot of cash. It's all up to you though~

I found a wig, that if cut shorter, it would do great for Sunny.

And dude - Japan? That is cool! I don't think I could survive in Japan for an academic year but ya better take pictures!! Or at least have some awesome stories!!! I'm pissed at Japan right now though. There's a series I really like (read as: love, it's up there with my love for MGS) called Baccano! and they're not exporting aaaany freakin' merchandise. The only things you can get to America are the DVDs, a few of the novels (though they're in Japanese) and some random DS game. o_O But I know there's a shop in Japan that has awesome merch because I found their website and they're all "*shows the drool worthy merchandise on website* Come to our store!"

Thankfully I have a friend who will be returning to her home in Japan for about a year and she has promised to grab me stuff. XD Yaaaay for having friends who were born where the merchandise is!

I love Baccano, too. I was psyched when I got to see the extra three episodes. Right now I've been kinda heeping my eyes open for MGS stuff (like pins and keychains) But all I can find so far is Calorie Mate (which doesn't actually count as MGS merchandise). I haven't had much of a chance to do any huge exploring yet, but now that it's silver week we get a five day weekend. Gonna go to Osaka (and Kyoto) and keep my eyeballs peeled.

Yeah, haha, it is going to be interesting! Glad I have quite a while, though! The only stuff that needs to be made is the shirt, pants, and keyboard straps so this really should be a fairly easy costume. Just super expensive, but I am a sucker for accuracy (or at least as close as I can get).
I don't envy you for making your stuff at all, that's going to be a lot of work o.o

LOL, I totally found that call two nights ago and almost put it up, but the internet at the dorms was way slow that night and I was impatient. Also, I found a place in Osaka that I might hopefully be able to find MGS merchandise. Some friends and I went exploring today, we went to Osaka castle and Shitennoji temple. We were supposed to explore Namba, but I kinda got sick from I'm guessing dehydration. It was kinda funny because, when I mentioned it we we decided to stop and eat, and while everyone one was looking at the plastic food, Casey looked over and said we should probably sit down because I looked like I was going to die... And then I passed out. Luckily Veronica has great reflexes and caught me, plus I was only out for a second. So I didn't get to search all that much but I plan on going back (with a water bottle) to hunt down MGS stuff.
Those little girl dolls of the characters wig me out though, well only snake really bugs me. When I see snake I think facial hair... I think I might actually like it more if it had some stubble, girl or not...

There's some people who have made that stuff, but from what I've been reading it is super hard to do, because of what the stuff will need to be made out of to look accurate. Also that number was just for my specific costume, Meryl would probably be quite a bit cheaper, since it looks like she has less pouches on her.

CloudStrife32 I liked the first one the best, but I saw this wig and I thought a slightly different color and it would be perfect. Around the same price as the one you are looking at. The best part is you CAN change the color! If you did go with this wig I'd change the color to one of the light blond, browns near the grays. 2m-ish. just a suggestion.^^

Yeah, I love that place! <3The thing to remember is order ahead. they release most of the wigs at certain time. for example, "we need 7-12 days to send product", but they only ship once a month or so, so if you miss the dead line for that month then it takes longer, so It would go out with next month's order/shipment. It's weird, but there good quality!^^
Makichan I'd prefer a bit more blond(if they had it), but honestly it looks pretty darn good. yeah, I'd go for it. I can help you cut it to your face, if you need help. :)

Ah, haha, I was about to say I'd prefer the green tint since everyone usually does the blonde and I think the green is a pretty prominent color for Sniper Wolf.

You can always go with cheaper shoes that look close enough. The gloves you could probably make fairly easily (they are like $50 otherwise). Those two items alone cut $150 off the pricetag (minus whatever the other options you go with cost). She only has the plate carrier, belt, two holsters (three if you do the quick draw on the left side), and it looks like two pouches on the belt on her right side. I haven't been able to find a holster that is close enough yet. I asked one of the guys on cosplay.com and the one he is using they don't make in the color we need anymore so I get to keep looking for something I like.
But not counting the holsters, you're looking at about $150 for your tac gear. [url-http://www.diamondbacktactical.com/Fast-Attack-Plate-Carrier-P46C0.aspx]This[/url] (gave you that one already), this belt is what I am using (http://www.diamondbacktactical.com/BattleLab-BackpackAssaulters-Accessory-Belt-33-42-P279C0.aspx), and some type of ammo or grenade pouch, I can't find a clear picture of it anywhere.

Trumby, Yeah, the last couple night's Ive been researching what to make and what to buy. I'm making: gloves, shirt, I have the pants, and maybe the chest gun holder, because I cant find it. things I'm buying:shoes, plate carrier, belt, one thigh holsters(I think she only has one:x), ammo pouch, knee pad's, and of course the foxhound patch!(maybe the bag she has too, not sure yet) Oh, and her guns! I'm doing some searching to find out what exactly she uses. mainly for me it's the holster I need to keep an eye out for, because the one the site has is a different from the MGS one. The sucky part is I only make 120-170$ every two weeks. witch sound's pretty good, but once you factor in school & car stuff, it's not so hot.><Your right though, Johnny will cost more! Also if air soft gun's aren't allowed next year then I have a LOT of work ahead of me! I'll probably start buying stuff end of next month. I will start the shirt soon too, cuz I know I'm going to make mistake's. Thank you for all the help! I appreciate it, and I need it.^^;

@Hisuji: Well, she has the holster on her right thigh (drop down leg holster) and another on her left that is just a quick draw holster. Though I've only seen one cosplayer (the Japanese girl) that had it. One of her guns is I believe a desert eagle with a scope on it. I'm not sure what the other two, haven't seen any references of them yet (I haven't actually played MGS4 yet..lawls. I really need to buy a PS3). I'm not really sure why her shirt isn't full length..I think with the shirts they wear, the sleeves are able to come off. Looking at the ends of each, they look like they attach. Who knows! As for if they are wearing gaiters..I think those are part of their pants. And y'know what, it's been a while since I played the games but I watched the MGS4 game (some gameplay + cutscenes) on YT the past two days and I am painfully aware how much my screen name resembles Mei Ling now. XDDD I made this screen name when I was like, 13 or something ridiculously young like that and it had nothing to do with MGS.
So, I've seen all of MGS4 but haven't gotten to play it either. D= And a part of me wants to figure out how to make a MK II... that'd be so awesome... but totally out of chronological order with my cosplay.

Also I agree...she had good intentions but rather indifferent or bad means. Tbh, the one who I felt the most sorry for in the game series is Otacon. He's the one who gets hurt the most. Though I have to admit, he's got relatively quick recovery speed especially taking into account all the things he and Snake need to do.

@Hisuji: Both of those look good, though airsoft isn't going to be allowed next year so I'm not sure what to do regarding the weapons. Think I might try to make a mold of one for my rifle and experiment with casting some. That first one is like perfect though for what you need <.<
@Maki: Yeah, like the figure shows you can tell it is there, as well as pretty much every Sniper Wolf cosplayer I've seen always has the writing on their patch. Even if it weren't, there is a patch without the extra writing on that site that is the same size and color so they'd still look the same regardless :P

Yeah. I've got her dark slacks and shirt from MGS4, her undershirt and pants from MGS2. All I would need is the jacket, which is what, ten bucks at goodwill? xD And my ahri is the same color and length then hers in MGS2, pretty much.
But I'm booked this year; four complicated cosplays for the con next year plus a very complicated fifth for only a single panel. xD
If I go to Sakura or Mew I might drag it out, though. No one would recognize me without a Raiden. ^^;;

Definitely makes MGS seem more realistic... thus complicated. Though there will always be one, simple truth: A cardboard box is the perfect hiding place.

I think it's just the side effect made from generating the individual hairs for Raiden's eyelashes where the individual hairs gather at his eyelid's edges. However... dude totally looks like he's wearing eyeliner. XD

Please, all you need is a long wig, then some silver hair spray to use on the side's, and eyeliner that's a light shade of brown to make wrinkle's. :) lol, how about young ocelot? :P

But I will probably be cosplaying as The Pain at K-con 2010. If I do, I may even have speakers embedded in the costume that will play the sound of bees. And to be honest, this will be a hell of a lot easier to do than say, The Fury.

All of my friends who cosplay, are girls (Maki being one of them), so no. And to make a good quality The Fury cosplay, you would need a good chunk of change and/or MAD fabrication skills. The other problem would be getting someone to cosplay as The End. Because how many cosplayers want to cosplay as an elderly man? And if you did find someone, you have to make them appear to be old: i.e. wrinkles, liver spots, the works.

I just bought the XM8 and a 1911 pistol for $30 shipped so I figure even if I only use them for molds and whatever I end up making doesn't come out as good I can always use them for shoots not actually *inside* the con. I know I'm going to want to do some shoots like the other folks who cosplay Meryl & Johnny have done. Should be very easy to do with the Hilton!
Also we definitely do need some more villians. I'll see if I can maybe round up anyone!

I'm going to try to be as accurate as possible! also there shirts are really good looking, I need to deiced what I want for the shoulder pad's. I have some small knee pad's that might work, but I'm not sure.

No, my friend can get me a cheap PSP, and DS. So we were finding out if it's compatible with US stuff. 40$ for a DS, not sure what the PSP is yet. :)

The PSP is not a region-encoded system. The plug for the charger on the PSP is identical, so worst case scenario you'd have to drop $10 on a new charger.

I've got cap guns... plenty of 'em. Some of them just need some spray paint, but I'm willing to part with them for practically nothing.

-Two snub nose revolvers, one made out of clear plastic, the other made out of metal.
-One regular revolver.
-Two clear plastic Uzis.
-One .45(?) handgun.
-And one full sized 9mm hand gun (non-cap gun)
They all ('cept the .45) pretty much need a paint job of some kind.

Certain props are not allowed within the Convention Space. These include, but are not limited to:
•Airsoft or projectile weapons
This rule applies no matter if ya got ammo for it or not. =)

Liquid Snake was always quite the challenge for me. I enjoyed MGS4 but it didnt feel like a MGS game though. Amazing cut scenes and story

MGS4 felt like... there was many moments of the MGS I knew but at the same time the entire game seemed to be 10 degrees off and headed in a new direction. I suppose that's the way to go though when your protagonist is supposedly dying and being replaced.
So it was odd but in a way fitting.
And I agree with mattstotts, beautiful cut scenes and story.
Meanwhile - Otacon's labcoat, which had hung in my closet since 2008 sadly unused, is finally being put to use! For Halloween I am being a doctor with questionable practices and the labcoat is perfect - yay! XD And I have a friend who was already dressing up as a nurse so we match, haha.

I am sooooo not done with Maryl, not even close. It will be a little while, sorry Narunik. ^^ One thing we talked about earlier was a laziertag mgs meet up. But once again, most of us haven't started. lol, I look forward to your box techniques, because I'm not sure what to expect. :) Maybe on Friday I'll work on my Maryl wig, and my Carol cosplay. >.> hmmm we shall see how ambitious I am.

I thought to myself "Hideo is genius, there must be a way." I found out that you can switch controller ports on the PSP software menu while still in game mode.

TZ: The reaction and reasons of ppl in mgs seem a lot more understandable, and believable to me. were in most of the ff games the ppl are a little bit less relate-able to me. yeah the power of the characters are fictional, but there personality and reasons are very human. Also in ff7 not a whole lot is explained. :/ Tho, I will always love Cid & Vincent. >3< Lastly depending on the mgs game there are hidden historical messages. I like that stuff.^,^

I was playing it in the car with my dad and the game was showing a scene with Otacon I thing or Prof. Emmerich is telling about the HIROSHIMA bomb amd the other nuclear bombs that have happened! My dad noticed it and was like "Yep, that was one of the most devestating mombs ever." Also Prof Emmerich talked about the Manhatten project. "My dad said that was a nuclear bomb project.
And HEY! This sci fi parts are the reason why this game is so EPIC! NO WONDER IGN gave the GBA version of MGS 1 a 10 and MGS 4 a 10.

In Metal Gear Solid 4 it explains why Vamp cant die. I dont want to ruin the game for people who havent played it yet. I think the reason the Pain was able to control bees is much similar to the queen bee and had some sort of pheromone. As he was able to tell the bees to attack Snake he always would sorta just dance around.

Where you at in the game? I played up to meeting the Rat Patrol and the sequence after that. Stopped because soo many games to play.
And nope, all new PS3's are not compatible with PS2 games. There were only a couple different versions of the PS3 that did. One was the version that came bundled with MGS4. That's the version I made sure to buy so I don't have to have my PS2 hooked up too <.<

Thank goodness the only things I really need to get for Otacon is a wig... we have similar hair but mine refuses to act like his and I know a wig that would do the job. And some new jeans. My old pair for him got dyed green back when I didn't know anyone who went to k-con would be doing MGS.
It is times like this, when I'm not strapped for dimes or pennies, that I'm glad Hal doesn't have all the guns, armor, holsters, etc. that everyone else does.

And Maki, that's exactly what I thought of, haha!
On another note, this is bugging the heck outta me. In MGS2 can anyone tell from gameplay if Otacon's labcoat has sewn on pockets or flaps with inset pockets? I got his coat two years ago and mine has sewn on pockets... the gameART and (oddly bulky)figure of him have inset with pocket flaps. Now, while I KNOW there was a very compelling reason why I bought a coat with sewn on pockets and haven't changed them to reflect the art exists... I have no idea now. I have forgotten and the computer I used back then sleeps with the fishes.
My request - does anyone have in game shots of Otacon's lower pockets for his coat? If so, may I see? I can't find anything that is clear enough to show them yet and if they are different I wanna conclude if I am either gonna destroy perfectly usable pockets for perfection or if I will keep them as they are and still be accurate.
I'm personally hoping for the latter. Ha. I love my labcoat and it's roomy pockets.

Well I did some work on my guns, filling up the seams and such so no point in pictures just yet. Going for a completely seamless look when I'm all done with them.

@NARUNIK, No, BUT it will be much more enjoyable if you do play the others before. All the games can be played by them selves, but its the whole Snake arc and how he came to be, yadda yadda, that makes it really great. :) Soo~ I say play the others first.

And I agree, while you don't technically need to have played them, it really is good just so you know the history of everything going in. MGS2 takes place after MGS1, MGS3 takes place back in the 1960s and you play as Naked Snake, who will later become Big Boss.
I didn't really like MGS3 personally..it was just soo involved, what with all the crazy camo and all.

They aren't the same. Naked Snake was Big Boss. Solid Snake is different. In MGS1 we learn that Solid and Liquid are clones of Naked Snake/Big Boss.
The original Metal Gear (the NES one) actually had Solid going against Big Boss.

Does anyone know where I can get plain cardboard boxes? With absolutely nothing on it? I want to use painters tape to mark the markings, then paint it to look exactly like one from the game. ^^

You might be able to find completely blank boxes at office supply stores (like Staples..I think we sold blank boxes there?). Your best bet would probably be to paint the boxes white first, since if you're going for an in game look I believe most of them were white.

I just got to Sniper Wolf in MGS 1. MGS 4 I just saw Liquid. He looks like a pimp. I am on my way to Naomi.
I have seen MGS 4 cosplays before and they actually look pretty cool. With the white hair and everything.

Dude. Pop out Snakes = Brilliant. Haha, it's kinda funny to think about - a MGS group w/out a Snake. They tend to roam around cons though, dudes in stuff they got from the surplus store hiding under boxes... Just a matter of finding them? And Sak IS coming up - there are Snakes there! We'll kidnap one for kcon. My plan is full proof. 8D
And Drebin is pretty cool... the monkey though... that was one weird primate.

Naked Snake/Big Boss is..essentially Solid and Liquid's father, but they are really just clones of him that have been altered.
Eva/Big Mama is their surrogate mother, meaning they were just implanted in her and she gave birth to them.
MGS2 is set after MGS1 and Solid is the main character. That is the game where you find out who Raiden is. You also play as him for a lot of the game.

WORKOUT! I'm going to beef up for Meryl! I want to get in shape, I just did a 35min work out today and I plan on doubling that next time. My plan is to do weights on mon, wen. Aikido on tue, thur, and Sat, Sun is what ever I feel like doing. I'm pumped, Also I'm cutting my wig no matter what this weekend. Cosplay time is a go! >:D

I keep trying to do cardio five or six days of the week for at least thirty minutes... it's not hard... I just get so bored with one or two things but I don't have the resources to do fun things that are also a workout. =/

I plan to have DARN GOOD SHOULDERS. But not as awesome as hers. lol I think I'd scare people.
The point of doubling is to do one rep with 3bls, and another rep with 5bls. It makes you body work extra hard on the last ones, so your body doesn't get use to the routine(as I get better I will up the weight).
I love swimming!! Dose the hotel have a swimming pool? if it dose we should all go swimming! :D

And yep, there is a pool and weight room at the hotel. It was on the 2nd floor, there was a door between the railing looking over the lobby and the elevators, that's where it is.
As for my costume..still haven't really gotten anywhere yet with the guns <.<

And I really like your Sol designs. I think having a black one piece underneath would be really nice along with the red two piece. That way it'd be attractive but not super skank and it'd follow Sol's design well.

Well if I do the other con I thought Meryl swimsuit would be cheaper/easier(wear a tanktop and buy camo swim suit bottoms)... Maybe have a gun holster on me. AND Trumby would look hilarious, especially if you keep your balaclava on! So heck yes! XD Otacon would so be one of the guys with the sunscreen on his nose. Or if you wanted to be artistic, find or make swimshorts with a anime or robot stuff on it. :3 It would be cute!
As for Maki, I'm the one who likes mgs. So shes not sure she wants to spend the money on a cosplay person she doesn't know. Otacon your our bad guy now! :p

The thing with otaku shorts for Otacon... what shall be on them? For custom I could print stuff on but I dunno what would be water proof. XD (I do wanna swim eventually...) So regular swim trunks might be more effecient, and cheaper since I already own a pair, haha. They're green too so they fit in with his MGS2 outfit.

Instead of using a lanyard/clip for my badge I'm just going to put it in that so it goes well with the costume :D

And yeah, labcoats are usually used in professions where there are biohazards like if you're a chemist or doctor... Hal is an engineer... They're rarely used there. And he's never seen in a "labcoat" ever again - both his other outfits are just regular coats! I mean, not even when he was being an engineer for an actual organization was he wearing "protective" gear.
Also, when I originally bought the labcoat it was so hard to find an accurate one because there were so many unique, un-lab coat like elements in the design. I thought, at the time, that it was just that creative license that so plagues cosplayers...

The casting stuff I bought got here on Friday. Realized I need some bowls and such for mixing it so I'm just going to get some new tupperware for my kitchen now..lols. Hoping I can start experimenting with this stuff sometime during the week. Starting small by just doing clips (that way my pouches don't look empty!) then moving up to the actual guns.

I have depressing news to inform you of. This year has been very hectic for me, with the most recent offense being my car breaking down and costing me my entire cosplay fund to fix. This means that I probably won't be able to be Solid Snake for k-con. Sorry guys :(

No pics yet, still waiting on the plate carrier, but my first mold is made and waiting for it to set so I can use it. Just a clip first so I don't waste much resin if I do the casting wrong :P
..though I did buy a gallon of it so I have a lot anyway, haha.
And my shirt is almost done, she told me all she has left is to attach the sleeves. Also bought my boots so now the only thing I need to buy is the balaclava and I don't have to spend anymore money on this costume, yay :D

Yay, got my plate carrier, belt, and hydration pack Saturday morning before the meetup so didn't have time to get it all together and take pics. But I've got it all good now, home from work and took some pics with my webcam. I'll take some real ones when I get my shirt which should be this week. Those aren't the pants I'm using for the costume, they are just the only thing I have close to that color (the ones I'm using are on the way). Those two large pouches means I have so much space to carry things in this costume :D
...also I got that badge/ID holder but forgot to put it on and take a picture of it so I'll do that when I get the shirt too.
Can see most of the gear in this one. Pouch on the carrier holds his computer by the looks of wires coming from his keyboard. The other pouches on it are M4 ammo pouches to hold the clips for my assault rifle. Also need to put some velcro on my patch so I can attach it to the carrier.

And..honestly, the gear isn't going to be all that hot, it is going to be the shirts we'll be wearing along with the balaclava I'll be wearing. That will definitely make it tough. Good thing for me though, I will have the hydration pack I can use, haha. Either way I don't think we'll have to worry about super hot weather at kcon anyway. It'll probably be really sucky for me at AX though <.<
Also Rhe: Make sure you get the belt at the same time since it is from the same place! I believe you can get everything else for Meryl at the place with the stuff that is a lot cheaper.

Well, I think it is pretty much going to be us three deciding on the day, haha. As long as it isn't the same time as Baccano! I'll be fine, as that is the only other gathering I'm doing (unless I do Scott Pilgrim..but that's Friday anyway). Do either of you two have stuff that we need to work around?
Rhe, are you still doing Carol? I see you're not on the confirmed list for Baccano! so just curious.
Also got my boots in the mail earlier this week. Balaclava and shirt are on the way so everything will be done except for the guns here soon!

Aside from MGS and Baccano my only other group is Cave Story. That's also a part of TD so I know it won't interfere with Baccano, at least. And I don't have any days that require costume switching or the like.

And...I guess I should update that. The 2nd two aren't really happening. I'm also doing Greedlin instead of normal Lin. The twi'lek is still a go though. Those may be the only new things I do this year, since Johnny has cost quite a bit of money. I'll be wearing those 3 plus Firo. But MGS and Baccano! are the only gatherings I'm doing.
And haha I know what you mean. I even had to stop spending so I can make sure to have enough for everything I'm doing this summer.
Also, we still wanna do some laser tag sometime this summer? Been planning out my summer and weekends work wise and want to try to get things scheduled as best I can. Not going to have a ton of free weekends <.< If we are still interested though, I'll post it up on facebook as an event. Any weekends that would work best for either of you?

Well to be honest, it really isn't my work schedule that is tight nit..I just have a lot of other things I am doing besides work, especially over the next few months. I only have to work 5 weekends out of 13 in the next 3 months (not counting this month). But I also have: Anime Expo, PDXLAN, 501st stuff on one weekend, Celebration V, at least one more kcon meeting, Kumoricon, then maybe Rose City Comic Con the weekend after kcon. Which essentially leaves me with 1 free full weekend :P

No problem man, I don't mind at all :D Also just checked out prices for Ultrazone..looks like every Friday they do a deal from 8pm to midnight unlimited games for $20. So depends on where we want to go and what day.
As for a place to stay...people could totally stay at my place if it is at Ultrazone, since I don't live all that far from there. Though if we did it in Beaverton I'd probably need a place to stay too, haha.
And..not sure. In cosplay would be pretty fun, though probably pretty exhausting. What do you guys think?

I'm still in need of a white blazer for Otacon and might not have it in time? Plus, getting all sweaty in cosplay doesn't sound that great... :P We could always do a sorta photo op later on though. Training simulations via laser tag, hahaha.
And I don't have an opinion of where to go - I've never done laser tag before. So it's all up to you guys!

Well let's see, most of July doesn't work for me so: July 31st/August 1st weekend? Or August 7/8th? We haven't picked weekends yet for work so I at least can move things around at the moment. I'm planning on having August 21/22nd off as well, for the Kumoricon meeting that weekend so that one works too. Those are my weekends I'll be free in July/August. Plus probably the 18th/19th in September. I'll just make an event on facebook with those first 3 weekends listed and invite a bunch of people and see what happens!

Okay, so, I'm actually having trouble finding a white blazer for Otacon! You'd think that'd be a pretty easy find but they're either way too expensive or somehow not right. Aye.
So I've been looking at this blazer that's now discounted at Old Navy but I'm worried that it's not white enough. They call it "natural". The main reason I haven't been able to decide about this is 'cause they don't have it available in stores so I only have their online store to work off of. =/ What do you guys think?

If it's not white enough... think it could be bleached thoroughly? I've never bleached or removed color from clothing successfully before.

How hard would it be to make yourself? Just need to find one that is pretty cheap to use as a pattern really. I don't know enough about sewing to know how hard that'd be <.<
And yeah, I am making silicone RTV molds and casting out of resin. My first attempts came out pretty well (did a pistol magazine), except there were a lot of air bubbles in the mold so I had to fill those in on the casts. I need to get the mold for my pistol made today so it has time to set (takes about 24 hours). The great thing about the resin though is that it sets really quickly. Those mags I did were fully set in about 15 minutes. The only downside is that you only have about 3 minutes from when you start mixing to pour it into the mold, as that is when it starts to set.
I think I need to figure out a different way to do the rifle though, because it is going to use a lot of material and I'm not sure I want to do that for just a once off thing.

I have patterns for blazers already so if I can get fabric on sale it could be cheaper than buying that jacket... I might go ahead and do that. I feel kinda silly now, forgetting that usually making stuff is cheaper than purchasing it, haha!
Anthony, I'd be curious to see how those molds and resin casts turn out 'cause I'm wanting to make a mold of a small accessory I have but all the different types of molds and casts are very confusing. Much more of a hands on learner, I am. =)

Haha, that is one of the reasons I'd like to know how to sew..so I don't have to spend so much money on things :P
And The mags came out pretty decently, need to do a little fixups before I paint them, but nothing too bad. I need to figure out how to keep the air bubbles out of the rubber for the mold so it doesn't end up in the cast. THe bottom side of the cast is not nearly as clean as the top side because of that.
I forgot to take pictures before I put the glue on, but I'll take pictures of the gun when I get it cast if you want. Or you could just see the stuff next time you're up here

From what I've heard to keep air bubbles from forming in your mold, aside from having one of those super weird yet awesome machines that I can't remember the name of... ya gotta not stir vigorously when mixing, pour your mold in a small stream (drizzle?), and to let the rubber just fill in as it wants as you're pouring rather than direct it with movement.
And next time I'm up there I definitely wanna check it out. =) Pictures are awesome though, too.
Oh, also, just saw this in a video but tapping the sides of the mold to release air bubbles might help?

Yeah, I let this 2nd mold sit longer to let the air bubbles escape before I put the gun in so hopefully that part helped. I pretty much did all that stuff and it still happened so I may need an actual whisk or something to mix it with. As far as tapping it..yeah that works to a degree, but this is a pretty large mold so that wouldn't have worked with this one. With a smaller mold it would definitely though

In all the videos I've seen people used spatulas to mix. I also remember someone saying never to use an electronic mixer. I don't think a non-mechanical whisk would have any negative effects. =)
How much does the silicone you've been buying cost? And how much of it is there?

Oh yeah, you don't want to use an electronic mixer, that will introduce way too much air into it and that's a bad thing.
I bought a gallon of it and have used almost all of it, this pistol mold took up a over half of it. Don't really remember what it cost. I think like $75? Pretty expensive, but it is good stuff. It's just the big mold that killed me :P
Also FFFF I forgot to take pictures of my cast before I started cleaning it up. It was pretty ugly too, haha.The mold release I bought isn't working all that well (used to keep the two halves of the mold seperate) so I'm going to have to find something that works better. Having to cut the mold to get the original out is super annoying and not a very good way of doing things.

Yeah, it can get expensive. Luckily the actual resin will last a lot longer since I need a whole lot less of that for each cast.
And yeah, the molds can be reused. I used the magazine mold for 2 mags, will probably end up making a few more after I clean up the mold after AX.

I think it would depend a lot on whether you'd be making the stuff yourself. The jacket, the pouches, the pants, gloves. Maybe the elbow pads too? The boots you can probably find just by thrifting, though it could take a while to find 'em.
The rifle could potentially be the most expensive part, depending on how it is made. Now that I'm home from AX I'm going to mess around with my rifle and test out options. Like I said on facebook I don't mind helping you as much as I am able. Still new to the whole prop building thing myself too :D

Realized I left my sunglasses at a friends house down in LA though, oops!
And hmm, I wonder how well a mold of a knife would come out. It could be worth testing, but because it is so thin I am not sure how well it'd work, at least with the stuff I have. I can always test it on something small and thin to see what happens.
I still need to buy more of the RTV for the molds before I can do a whole lot more either way though.

Dang, good point. What I'm aiming for is a blade that will light up from a l.e.d I'm gonna put in the handle I'm making. Well, if ya can run a test that'd be amazing. =) Otherwise I'll have to brainstorm another way to make a translucent blade...

Ohh translucent..I can't do that with the stuff I have as mine dries to an off white color. With that kind of thing, the best way to do it would probably be something like wonderflex or even clear acrylic

EDIT: So Baccano, and subsequently Cave Story, have been decided for days! Sunday (Day 2) is Cave Story and Monday (Day 3) is Baccano with a photoshoot at 11am followed by an Italian lunch. That leaves Saturday (Day 1) for Metal Gear Solid. Sound cool?
And of course Scott Pilgrim is gonna be Friday. ;D

@Rhe: what do you want to do about your guns? I can't find any places with semi cheap desert eagle airsoft guns (to make the mold out of) in stock online. Do you want to go with just one or are you going to make the holster on her left leg too? This reminds me I need to buy more of the rtv for the molds.
I really need to get working on my rifle. I think I am just going to cut up the airsoft gun and use parts of it together with like wood or something, just so I can still have the functioning stock and magazine thing.

And ohh yeah, a place would be a good thing to come up with. I don't know the area very well at all so am not sure where would be good for this kind of thing. I was thinking like a parking garage would be good, some kind of stair well (at least for you and me). Not sure what would be good for outside shots

Geez, I can't remember the areas at all. =/ We could do some recon on Day 0? But an initial meeting place would be good to figure so we could all meet up and then travel to places to take pictures.

So, that wig ya gave me Anthony - I couldn't get it to flip in the back. Sad. But then I tried letting my hair out at the bottom (since it naturally does that pesky flippy thing) and TA-DAAAAAAA~ Otacon hair is mine! Now to grow facial hair.
... That was a joke, sadly.
Still working on his jacket (caved and I'm making it 'cause I really don't like that ol' coat I was using) and eventually here I'll start work on MGRex. Not lookin' like that's gonna happen. Maybe another con.

Yeah. I think she brought Pan (DBGT), Alice (Alice in Wonderland), and she's doing OVA Ennis (pretty much just without the jacket) since she couldn't find a jacket in time.
