well me and my friend are coming all the way from northern california, [6 hour drive]
and I was just wondering where everybody else is coming from!!
oh yeah, and we are going to be there all three days untill the convention closes at 5 on the last day.
and the last day of the convention, is the day before school starts back in our town. haha.
yeah, we're crazy.
-
damn. thats a bit of a trip. are you prepared for the fantastic adventures the convention will bring?
-
heck yes!!!
and the wonderfull things that portland itself has to offer!!!
...like...VOODOO DOUGHNUTS!!!
-
OMG you just reminded me of that place! my co-worker talks about it all the time and i wanted to try it out! xD bacon donuts!
-
i came from japan once
-
oh man yes! I love voodoo doughnuts. hmmmm I should go there at the next meet up. haven't been in awhile.
-
Voodoo would be amusing in Cosplay ^_^
At least you aren't coming 6 hours just for the doughnuts though ^_~

Get the bacon maple bar. Best. Thing. Ever.
-
or triple chocolate penetration get that too. of course cosplay and voodoo doughnuts.
-

But you know they totally would though ;)
-
I'll only be in the car for two hours, but I can assure you that I'll be sandwiched between four wig heads, a bunch of baggage and a giant sitar the entire way up so it will seem like much longer.
Bacon... In a doughnut? I must meet the genius that so revolutionized the world with this idea! And have a bacon doughnut. With chocolate.
-
Ialready plan on getting the bacon maple bar doughnut!!! and the voodoo doll, and my friends are getting the cock-n-balls doughnut XD
and yes, I would so travel 6 hours just for the doughnuts.
-
LOL
shall we all plan a group voodoo run then? =P
-
To me, my otaku!
To SW 3rd and Burnside!
-
eh, i'll just follow the crowd (bad at directions)
-
My total walking distance to reach the con is less than a mile. Granted there's like 15 miles of MAX ride in the middle, but hey.
I'M AN INCHWORM
-
LUCKY!!!
and next year I'm going to Comic-con which is basically the same distance, just in the other direction XD
-

Chocolate with bacon bits is really good too *drools*
-
Even though it looks naughty, the cock n' balls is a god sent. It's so delicious and custardy filled! X333
I'm craving one now~!
-
man I really need to go to voodoo soon. It's just so delicious. ;3

Few things in life will compare to the sheer greatness of a Tex-Ass

Actual size. No joke.
-
i heard the fritters were HUUUGE!
-
I will now claim the title from this post. 11 hours. (San Jose, CA) xDD
Then again, this being my 2nd KumoriCon, and 3rd time driving up (SC '08), getting used to it...sans gas prices. -_-
-
Meh, an hour and a half. Not that bad, I suppose. [/got a crappy hotel] XD Good thing I'll be at the con most of the time!
-
Granted she is moving here next month, my girlfriend is coming from North Carolina..does that count? <.<
-
I'm traveling......not that far at all, actually. A 30 minute car ride at the worst, and a 25 minute max ride at best. Either way, I don't have very far to go. Yay for going into Portland enough to know your way around, lol.
-
Meh, an hour and a half. Not that bad, I suppose. [/got a crappy hotel] XD Good thing I'll be at the con most of the time!
oh my you got a crappy hotel thats an hour and a half away? @@ oh my go book yourself a new hotel, with gas prices its cheaper to get one thats less then a mile away lol....then again... i'm was going on taxi before lol lemme tell ya,
i got my dates wrong on the reserve so i had to book a new hotel, well as i was searhing i thought bout it a bit, i'd be spending about 60-70$ a day on the taxi if i stayed at the cheap one and if i got the more expensive one i'd be 10 minutes a walk away...
so i get the 2-3 star one which is closer but double the price.
say i spent 60 $ for 3 days thats 180
cheap hotel, 120
expensive hotel, 230
i went from a 1 star hotel to like a 3 star, 4 miles to .4 miles and i'm spending about 70$ less
-
Yeah, seriously. 30 minutes away is way too far if you're from out of town. (If you live that close it's no big deal because you are already paying rent).
There's a ton of hotels nearby and I really doubt that we could force them ALL to sell out.
http://pockyclub.com/2008_area.pdf
If you click the RED Hs you will get hotel information.
Other than the Doubletree, the Holiday Inn is the biggest hotel in the area (therefore, most likely to have vacancies). Everything on that map is less than a mile away, meaning you can actually walk to the convention each morning.
-
That's nice that there are some pretty reasonable neighboring hotels. Walking a short distance to the con is nice, but I don't think I'd ever want anything less than waking up and opening my door to the con. I'm spoiled, lol. That's why I have to be sure to reserve a room very very very early, heh. The cost of spoiling myself is steep, sometimes, hehe.

QFT
Ive been to cons at the hotel and near the hotel. Imho its best to get them in the hotel so you can stay out as late as you want and not have to worry about finding your way back when you are about to pass out. And you can always go offload whatever you buy or brought with you.

Indeed. As bulky and elaborate as my costumes tend to be, I'd hate having to walk anywhere that isn't in the same building to crash or change, lol.

o.o Wow. Well, I wanted the Con hotel, simply because it's the easiest. But, I couldn't find a double bed room. So, we settled for the hotel about a half block away and payed the same amount of money. We'll probably get a decent discount, since my mom has a crapload of these points saved up because her job requires LOTS of traveling.

Ah well that sounds worth it, then. Still very close and you have the potential for discounts. *thumbs up* ^_^ And, as far as I know, your costumes are pretty easy to wear and walk in, yes? That's good, even if it is just a block or so away.

XD True, true. o.o I just don't want the stupid keyblade to snap in half or anything. [/looks at unfinished keyblade] .......Once it's done.
-
5 minute walk, 10 minute Max ride.
I lose. Muah hah hah.
-
But losers win in this game, kinda lol
-
[/sigh] I lost the game. Man, I'm jealous of you guys. XD A five minute walk?
-
Well, 5 minutes of walking could actually be up to 4 or 5 blocks, crosswalks and stop lights being a variable. It just sounds really really close, heh, but on the large scale, yeah, it is close.
-
well we live half way between portland and the coast :-\
its not that far, but my dad is SUPER anal and insists on driving us there and back each day... haha
so it ads up to like 7 or 8 hours of driving for 3 days
(it would be 6 but you just KNOW there is going to be traffic!)
-
15-30 min. Drive from Tigard depending on traffic. Not bad really, and not really worth stopping by the MAX half way there just to not pay parking. However I will most likely use the MAX for lunch and whatnot at least one of the days. (I am thinking I'm not going to get much sleep this year...well less than normal I guess. But whatever...who needs sleep at con!? and I can always try to cat-nap when I get the chance.)
-
I'm traveling all the way from SW Portland :o
::LOSE::
or epic win...

heh, living that close, are you still planning on rooming at the hotel?
-
It'll take me three massive hours driving uo to the con from Roseburg :D But we got a room at Double Tree, so there shall be hardly any driving in between!
-

Eh, I was going to if my friends gathered enough people for a room so that it would be affordable
<---- ::cough:: poor.
Buuuut that didn't work so well, so it's a party at my place! woowoo!
We even have neighbors who are going xD
-
Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin -
4 hr. drive to Milwaukee airport -
Flight to Denver -
Transfer to Portland
Cab to DoubleTree
Total mileage = 2,509

And Antares...I think you win. That is pretty dang far, heh.
-
oh wow. Wisconsin?!
that's pretty far!
I think you win this game!! ;)
-
8D HEY COOL. I get to travel six hours too!
Except it's gonna suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
Where in Northern Cali? Cuz I'm LOWLOWLOW Oregon. |D 12 miles from the border, yeehaw. I'M JUMPIN' THE BORDER.
-
I live along the coast in crescent city :)
-
If I was going ( :'( ) I could technically say Hawaii
-
Dude... Crecent City?
No way.
I USED TO LIVE THERE. 8DDDDDDD
-

OH SNAP I forgot to make a ghost of you for Japan...gomen D:
I'll make up for it by making a ghost of you for Kumoricon!
And...if you were attending kcon I'd say you win by default lol

-
XDD At this point, it's been ten, almost eleven years.
God, I miss the coast. D: I went from humidity and cold and waaaaaater everyyyywheeeeeeeere to the middle of the Oregon desert.

Wow, seriously?! Same time for me - can I ask where you live? I live in Rainier, right next to the Columbia, up Highway 30.

I had just moved IN town when you moved out!
and I came FROM the desert!!!hahaha!
weird, huh?

I know we had AMV entries from other countries like Australia and Korea (I think), I wonder if any of those people who entered are coming. If so, I'm sure they'd win, lol.
-
I think I lose thought. I am right up there with Eve. I live in Tigard so it is like a 15 minute drive tops v.v
-

I was gonna say that the Europe AMV creators would probably win, then I looked up the distance and realized that Austrailia has a good 2000+ miles on Europe. Evidently I don't give the Pacific Ocean the credit to it's size that it deserves. o_O
-
neat! it's gonna be interesting talking to people from out of the country
^_^
