Hi Everyone!
If you're signing up for Yojimbo, find the other sticky thread in the Get Involved section. :)
Reply to this thread if you want to volunteer or be staff. Be sure to include:
1) Full Name (real)
2) E-mail
3) Forum Name
4) Age (useful for knowing if you're going to be available after curfew)
5) Volunteer or Staff
6) What would you like to help with in 2009?
If you would not like this information public, please email volunteers@kumoricon.org, and the information will be given to whomever is chosen to be the volunteer coordinator in November.
Please keep in mind if you are signing up for staff you will still need to hand in a completed staff registration form as well as the staff registration fee at a meeting before you are fully considered staff.
Thank you all for all you've done and continue to do for our event!

6) Wherever I am needed most.
I have helped run and officiate in track meets for 6-7 years, including some national level competitions with 1500+ athletes. I was generally in charge of the clerk circle, which handles registration and information, making sure officials have all of the necessary paper work for their events and that they start on time, coordinating breaks in between events, data entry and posting results, as well as a few other misc tasks. It can definitely be a stress heavy environment and includes long days.
So anything along those lines would be easily doable, or whatever gap I am needed to fill. I do like to be able to walk around at least every once in a while. So if the info desk needs help as well, I could assist them during that time or just roam and help various con attendees who have questions.
However there are a few complications. I live in Eugene, and as of this moment, I don't have a car. Also, as I work retail, I have to work some weekends. I have a 3 weeks schedule rotation, but it is fairly constant, so I can plan ahead. I get every third weekend off normally. I do have vacation time, but I would prefer to save that for the actual con and other events if it is needed.
So depending on when the meetings are, I may or may not be able to make most of them. If you have any questions or if you need more info about my work schedule, please let me know and I can give you the details. I will do my best to physically attend any meetings possible, but I also have no problems "telecommuting" or catching up on anything important that I missed.
P.S. This year I volunteered a few times and helped at the sake/beer tasting panel, the information desk, and a few of the viewing rooms.

AHHH! TOO EARLY! *ahem* Sorry- Kumori Con 2008 just ended and we're alreading finding fresh me- I mean, lovable staffers ^_^.
Regardless of what position, I have, I know it'll most likely be under Relations. And I'll probably e-mail my info whenever I'm ready...
-
It's never too early! I was talking to people about how to sign up for staff in 2009 while 2008 con was still in progress.
Just call me your pusher. :)

Lol, I'd rather forget the better part of that year for various reasons. Aside from which I've been utterly unavailable to all of this for nigh on three years since then, due to needing to pay off bills and other such things. XD
I just hope I can do something nice for Prog dept again, it'd be like coming back to my old hometown or something. Yay Prog!

Would it be a problem if I can only attend the meetings infrequently? I live 3 hours away from Portland, but I'd be able to make the meetings whenever I was in the area at my mom's house. I'd very much like to be a part of staff but if it's not good enough then that's alright too.
Edit: I should mention that I'll be probably be available to meetings from the end of July till KCon. So I could do bag stuffing and whatnot for next year XD

-
As Vallie said, one needs to fill out a staff form and pay dues to be staff.
So, making meetings is encouraged not required, but the place to turn in staff forms and dues to your director is at a meeting.
-
I'll be able to make this upcoming meeting on the 11th. Since I wasn't staff prior, I obviously won't be able to vote in the elections, but is it alright for me to come, just to observe? And I'd like to take care of my forms and dues there : D
Can we print out the forms for staff somewhere and hand them in on the 11th?
-
It's under Documents on the main website. However, it's the form for 2008... I'm not sure how the powers that be will want to handle that, they might have new forms ready to go for everyone at that meeting...
Link to 2008 staff reg form:
http://www.kumoricon.org/files/forms/2008/staff_registration_2008.pdf (http://www.kumoricon.org/files/forms/2008/staff_registration_2008.pdf)
But the elections is open for the public to observe. As you stated, you won't be able to vote, but you can certainly observe and ask questions of the candidates if you would like.
-
Okay, since that's the '08 form I'll just wait till the meeting. Should I bring my $10 for dues?

You could, the only thing is that . . .
1.) What director does maid squad fall under?
2.) Who will win said election?
Because next week is k-con election meetup. I guess we could corner the winners and bury them with staff forms :3
-
It can be their victory prize for winning! :D
-
... Good point Paul.
Maid Squad currently falls under Vice, and we don't know whether Vice will be a part of the staff election or not because that issue is being voted on that same day.
Basically, it's a good idea to come prepared. Show up to elections either way, because it's good to be informed about who you'll be working with in the coming year. If for any reason people can't sign up at elections, you can sign up at the next general meeting in November (date time and location to be announced).
-
So I won't be able to make the meeting anymore unfortunately, but I'd like to be a part of staff by or during KCon Lite so I can help out. Will such an oppurtunity for me to sign up arise?
-
Kcon Lite is a mini-event in conjunction with the anime and gaming clubs of PSU... you do not need to be Kcon staff to help out. There will be a thread for volunteers for the event posted, probably sometime next week. Or you can PM Logan (the guy who posted the original thread), and let him know you'd like to help.
-
I'll sign up for volunteering when the post comes up, thanks!
-
There's also future meetings once a month. If you are still interested in the future to sign up as staff you can do so at any meeting. Next one will probably be mid November, date tba.

Yes well, I suppose that technically tofu if you want to be stealing staff, I am the man to talk to since I am the one that both Tanis and Kylite answer too.
Also try not to let the public know that gaming flogs behind the scenes, wait till we have them sign over their souls *cough* I mean "time" to us.

I'm good at video/audio system design and would be willing to perform pre-convention equipment analyzing to develop a configuration plan for the Main Events room. I think quick on my feet and stay cool as a cucumber under pressure! One particular event that I would like to definitely be Main Events staff for is the AMV Contest as I believe that is the #1 main event that has the most room for improvement (from the A/V technical side).
As a side note, I plan on attending the January staff meeting and hopefully I'll get a chance to be able to officially sign up as staff. Thanks!

Really? :o Thank you. That's great, then; I could totally make it to meetings if they're in Portland. ;D Hopefully the meeting after the May one will be here.
I apologize, though; I just assumed that every meeting was in Eugene because the May meeting is going to be.

the final 2 general meetings in august are both in Portland

I was really interested in becoming a staff member for this kumori con, as I posted a while ago. However I had to take a haitus from checking up on this stuff do to some personal reasons. I live in Eugene, however I won't be able to make the May meeting. I can try to make one of the later ones in portland, but it might be iffy. How many meetings are left in the year or when would it be too late to make one?

There is the July meeting in Salem and 2 in August in Portland at the hotel. You are welcome to make it to any of those and you can sign up for staff I believe at the first two, I think the last one is too late but I wouldnt trust that, I'm not 100%. You may be able to sign up as late as the last one.
The calender on the site will keep up-to-date locations.

Ok, thanks a bunch for the info. I will see if my work schedule fits in with any of them, or if I know far enough in advance, I might be able to request it off. I'll keep an eye out

Guy would like to be AMV Manager again
and I'll do Cosplay Manager again... if y'all want us to that is. :D
And I'll sign myself up as Green Room Mommy for you again! ;) I've had a total blast for the past couple of years and can't wait for this year...and to see what adorable costume you'll be in. :)
So, in that vein:

I have already got okay from two different admins, does that mean that I still have to post my info on here?

Oh, my, haven't been to these forums in quite a while! Anyways, due to postponing my wedding a couple months, I'm free to volunteer at Kumoricon. Yay!
1) Moni Madjdi
2) pigtailninja@gmail.com
3) pigtailninja
4) 26 (27 at the con)
5) Volunteer or Staff - I'd prefer to be staff, but I'm fine with volunteer!
6) What would you like to help with in 2009? - Well, I was Con Chairwoman of ChibiChibiCon in Olympia, WA for two years running, and a staff member for a couple of years before that. This year, I handed CCC over to a new club director, so I'm commitment free! My specialty was always programming, but I can help out anywhere.
I'm going to try to come to the July meeting... is that soon enough to sign up as staff? I saw there was going to be some kind of retreat in June, but I don't know whether there are going to be any other meetings in June.

I was reading through the staff registration form, and noticed that it said that "staff members under age eighteen at the time of registration must submit a staff parental permission form."
Does anyone know where I can find this form?

Believe it or not, it looks like we haven't created this yet. We'll need to collect this from staffers who are under age 18. I think we'll get this form made in the next week or so.
-
Thank you. That's good to hear! ;D Will the form be posted in the documents section of the website, or will a link be posted on this thread, or another one similar?
I'd like to know where to lurk for the next few weeks. ;D

I'm not a gamer so I would be useless there, but I love anime and manga, and Lolita. I'm a huge J/Rock fan. I do enjoy Yaoi and Yuri. The big draw back for me is not being able to see the con. i still want to get to do all the things i enjoy while helping. Oh and I'm not a morning person, but if you need someone to be awake with not sleep at 4am, and still be able to organize things I'm your person. I also live in Portland so I can come to meetings.
-
I was just wondering if I could help in anyway on the last day of the con, taking stuff down, etc.
Since I'll be staying an extra night and leaving on Tuesday. :o
