Title: Who do you bank with?
Post by: guspasho on June 19, 2005, 03:46:38 pm
Let me preface this post by saying that, as we get down to the final months before the con and planning really begins to pick up, expect a lot of stickies. We'll try to reorganize the forums to make it not so bad, but expect a lot of stickies anyway.

The hotel currently only has one ATM. We're planning on having two more brought in so there will be enough cash to go around (for shopping at the tables, etc.) But if you're like me you'll walk a mile to avoid the dreaded foreign ATM fees. So I'm going to try to compile a list of the nearest ATMs for everyone's banks, based on what you guys here can tell me of whom you use. So tell me what banks' ATMs you need and I'll try to look up the nearest ones for each one, and it'll go into the con guides. Just tell me what banks you will need to use.

IE. I use Washington Mutual and Wells Fargo.

And please stay on topic. Thanks.

I still use U.S Bank.. and while the ATM might not charge fees, the banks still will if you don't use their ATMs... just to let you know

Washington Mutual doesn't charge you but your bank might. Also, I use WaMu, and they charge me for using other ATMs.

I'd suggest Wamu and First Tech.

Wamu's quite far away from the convention center, about a mile and a half at the Fred Meyer on Broadway, or in front of Pioneer Courthouse Square down the MAX line. I learned the hard way that they don't have anything within walking distance of Lloyd Center. That was mainly why I wanted to take on this project :)

First Tech, however, appears to have some ATMs really close. If you bank with First Tech Credit Union or any other Credit Union or other Co-op that is part of the Co-op Network (http://www.co-opnetwork.org/public/index.cfm) you have several choices that are really close.

I might as well post the addresses now, since I looked them up.

Electra Central Credit Union
825 NE Multnomah
Portland, OR 97232
and
650 NE Holladay
Portland, OR 97232

Portland Teachers' Credit Union
1720 NE 9th Ave
Portland, OR 97212

I excluded the ones that are restricted access since those buildings will probably be closed on weekends. But I'll try to drive around and confirm everything after I've generated a list.

And Washington Mutual:
3030 NE WEIDLER ST
PORTLAND, OR 97232
and
811 SW 6TH AVE
PORTLAND, OR 97204

Wamu's site also lists an ATM location I've never been able to find and don't believe actually exists, but if anyone can find it, they say it's at Lloyd Cinemas, across the park from the hotel. I would not count on that location at the con, as I have personally attempted to locate it to much frustration and no avail.

Northwest Community Credit Union

*TIP Most credit unions in the northwest have a partnership with one another (ie; casacade, uof, so forth) In which you can withdraw and deposit money, manage accounts, and cash checks at no additional fee.

eh? thats interesting.  as far as I know, my family also have first tech for their bank.  I think it used to be attached to tektronix(not sure...memory fuzzy....) which both of my parents work at(or used to, in the case of my mother) so thats likely the reason.  presuming...my memory is correct....

All right already! First Tech has been covered! Please refer to my first post, last line.

Also, if anyone uses a credit union that ISN'T part of the Co-op network I mentioned earlier, let me know. Otherwise, I will assume that all credit unions are covered by the ATMs I found so far.

I bank at both Washington Mutual and First Tech so either one of those would work for me.

I think you are right good quick access to money will increase sales at the con.

Boeing Employees Credit Union.

Member of the Co-Op Network.

@ guspasho

lol @ "restricted access". Usually with my bank's ATM's, that usually means they're at Boeing aircraft manufacturing plants. On that note, the only ATM for my bank in Portland is at the company's fabrication facility on Sandy Boulevard. Yay for the Co-Op Network.  8)

I'd like to apologize for the fact that this list never made it to the con. I hope everyone managed. I imagine you all did, since the vendors I bought stuff from in the exhibitor's hall were able to process credit cards. However, there is no reason this can't be the beginnings of an ATM map for next year, unless we aren't in the same hotel again next year. Thanks for all your input!
