SO I THINK WHAT'S BEEN DECIDED IS THAT THE MEET-UP WILL BE AT BRIDGEPORT IN BEVERTON
AROUND NOON, ON THE 14TH OF FEBRUARY.
Due to the Dance being on the 7th, We've changed the meet up to the 14th!

lol it seems we all are. I'd say lets make this maybe a singles party so everyone can maybe meet someone but I don't want to exclude couples.

yeah we could have a candy trade off thing. everyone brings some candy treats and we play a game with it. I'm not sure where I'm going with this but as you can see it's not fully developed yet.

I see what you are getting at sounds like it can be fun. We can call it "Secret Cupid" and you bring a candy (or we could do gifts) for someone.

yeah I was thinking sort of like secret santa but then that would mean it would like telling someone 'this is who your going to crush on for the evening' XD not gonna work to well. well maybe we could do like put numbers or clues on some of the candy and then give matching numbers to people and then the candy somehow connects them. and we could even make the game so it works for all preferences that come. boyxboy, girlxgirl, and boyxgirl.

I know that is the problem. My good friend (not a anime fan) dad is the owner of the ZONE (the portland teen club) I know it is a very long shot but I can try to persuade him for us to use the zone.

well if the space is open for us then I guess it would be good. but we should wait a little bit before we get a place because we need to know how many are coming. and what activities we want to do and how much space they might need. yeah I say lets movie it to the weekend before.

Ok I quickly read through most of it and got the gist. The 14th is a good day for me and I should be able to make it ;D
I like the idea of a gift exchange, though I didn't quite get how to do the one you were talking about. Could someone expand on that a little more?
Also the speed dating is a good idea and a bad idea. There is too wide of an age range. We would have to split it up into two categories over 18 and under 18. Plus I am not sure how many people would be willing to do it. I know I wouldn't want to. There are too many creepy guys lurking around the internet and I don't want to deal with that >_>;
Everything else seems like a good idea. Maybe if people cosplay they could cosplay couples/pairing? I think that would be fun and there could be some sort of arch way to get a pairing picture taken under or something....Just a thought and since it is so far out it might work. People could get costumes together. I know that Bridgeport has BEAUTIFUL places to take pictures so maybe instead of getting a full costume together you could just do winter versions. Like with big fur coats (look at my avatar for example)
Those are my few cents. I also might get my parents to ok this at our house but we would have a limit to the number of people that can go >_>

Is this going to be on the 14th or 7th. I want to say the 14th. But what do you guys think. The is a very very good point about the speed dating with the split up of 18+ and under 18. It will matter what day becuses if it on the 7th i will be 17. But if it on the 14th i will be 18. so what will it be.

I'm not too sure where it will be either. I like the idea of being outside even if it is cold. It would be more like the season. Again going back to Bridgeport there is a large gazebo that can hold a large number of us as well as heaters outside and there were two fire pits to keep others war.
As for my cosplay I'm not too sure what I want to do. I really want to cosplay Albel but I would need either a Cliff or a Fayt >_>

most of the stuff you mentioned in your first post was already thought of. well I don't think we're going to do a gift trading thing. it's going to be more like weird candy thing. details still need to be worked though. it's okay not everyone has to do speed dating.
valentine cosplay sounds like a fun idea. I know I'm going to do something related to that.
the date and place is still discussable since we have 2 months and not enough people so far.

As for the Cosplay I'd probably either do Axel or Soubi. But that also depends on if my girlfriend is able to make it. Otherwise I might be Nichole's awkward other half from a completely different series for a day. XD
But if my girlfriend can't make it down on the 14th, then I'd say the 7th, otherwise I'll be up in Seattle. :-O

I'm sure people will be taking pics for sure. and no you won't get a plant. I think the non blind folded should yell out directions. like left, right, hot, cold, up down. but when someone starts tying a string to person being tied to has to keep quiet so as not to give anything away.

Somewhere in Downtown Portland might work. There are plenty of places. Maybe Pioneer Square or something, then if it rains or there's bad weather we could just go inside the mall.

pioneer square would be a nice place I guess. downtown Portland is the easiest place to get for most. and rain would be bad. I actually have some ideas of parks with covered tables and what not. but I think theres an admission fee to most of them.

I like the idea of Bridgeport mall. It has nice scenery and there are woods nearby it.

Llyod Center is nice, too. Although the park there is pretty dull if the sun isn't shining. We went out for pictures on Saturday and didn't get much. The rain would melt our wigs, though. And it could possibly damage some people's cosplays. :-O
Bridgeport is right next to I-5. The exit to it is 290. So it's pretty accessable.

Exactly. And some people's hair react to the weather conditions, too. x.x; I know mine was a little unhappy when it rained during Kumoricon this year when I was Light. But it wasn't too bad.
Yeah there isn't much to that park. When the water's going and there's flowers and sun then it's a little more exciting.

For those that were looking for a location, and with cherry blossoms, why not the Japanese Gardens?
Also unless everyone going is taking these games seriously, what if we did a speed dating and then the red string thing?
And...no one on here is too young, I'm just too old for everyone else. But going to this event might prove me wrong. So the 7th or the 14th here I come!
Last thing, is the show on Toon Disney called Pucca considered anime? Because I might just be Garu if nothing else seems worthy. Heck I might just use that as my first test of my Tuxedo Mask my prelude to Tuxedo Melvin for Sakuracon.

Why does only one side get blindfolded, I know calling out directions can make it go faster, but where's the fun of mystery if half the people already know who they're getting?

secondly do you know how much it costs to get into the japanese gardens? I haven't been there for a long time so I don't remember and they might have changed the price as well.

Again I still like the idea of Bridgeport. There is warm places all around it. If you get too cold we can go into a store also there are heat lamps near by.
As for the Japanese garden it would cost a lot and I don't think any flowers would be in bloom. It's still going to be quite cold. I don't think we will be able to find a place that has flowers at the beginning of February
Lolyd is ok but it is small and we got in a quite a bit of trouble last time, plus it is hard to control a large crowd. Bridgeport is much bigger and there are a lot of spots where large groups can meet ^_^

Flowers in bloom would be nice but maybe someone could get a dozen fake roses and we can use those or something. Keep in mind that most followers typically aren't in bloom (in Oregon at least) around Valentines day so it might be a little weird to have pictures with them in it.

Just make sure we have permission before we go if we do it at Bridgeport... And the Japanese Garden does not like it if you come in costume or being dressed different I know because me and mom wanted to do my Senior Pics there and they said no changing clothes to be in grad robe....
And the Japan Club at PCC is trying to a Valentines Dance... and make it look like a prom... and have it somewhere in Portland....

we're still looking at how many people are going. people who are saying their going now might not be able to go when the time draws near. Japanese gardens was a suggestion. and if we did go no one would be changing into different clothes so they wouldn't have to worry about that. but we already stated its expensive and doesn't have a lot of space.

Well since it's a Valentine's Day event, Tuxedo Mask seems like the appropriate cosplay. Besides, being Garu I wouldn't have a Pucca cosplayer chasing me around and cheating in the games to get to just me. There ain't no cure for the Valentines blues...except to take a deep breath and march in with my sword (er rose) and head held high.

The only thing I've ever disliked about Valentines day was the fact that after I got out of Elementary school, no one was required to give everyone else cards and candy. So I ended up getting nothing, which was upsetting to me. XD

Yes, an actual question about the event not my personal abominations. If this was answered already, I'm sorry for having to ask it again. And I'm sorry for bringing my personal life into an event meant to be fun for everyone regardless of how old they are or how they're doing in life. Heh, actually if I had the money for the pieces, I could make a very good Cloud Strife.
But on to my questions:
Just wanted to ask if doing both the speed dating and string game is possible? And from the rules I read in another post, I understand calling directions to the blindfolded person holding the string but that means half of the people will know who they're getting. I guess I don't understand the game entirely yet. I'll just have to come and see for myself.
Which means regardless of what happens between now and the event, I am set on going. And to grant the wish of a tradition lost in elementary school, I might just bring something for everyone. :)

The majority of people going to this are single. Most people who are in a relationship wouldn't go to a party like this.
I also wanted to add that my personal opinion on this is to have it a private party at someones house. You really don't want to be advertising that girls (of any age) are going to be speed dating on the internet. Anyone can read it and show up. It's a very scary thought. And because of that I might not come just for the fact that I care about my own safety.

Connected for a whole day...how many people in the shows that have been aired have been stuck together at least once and survived it? I'd be up for that challenge. But it also depends on what you mean by one day. As in sunrise to sunset, or 12 midnight to 12 midnight? Never did the speed dating thing, but for everyone else's sake I'll vote it down. But I'm still interested in the string thing. Well...we could do the speed dating game, but the question is how serious is everyone about these games? Are we actually trying to hook people up or are we just seeing what would happen. Also no matter what season or holiday, we MUST do a glomp circle.

It wouldn't be hard if you have a long enough string. If someone asks why you have a string on your finger trailing into the other bathroom, just tell them you're waiting for your friend. Or out of respect, the person waiting could take the loop off the other's finger and wait, then put it back on when they get out. Such a thrilling challenge yet no one to take them on with.

So the rules would be half the group is blindfolded, girls or guys, we'll decide then. The blind people have a string on their finger, while the other line calls out directions or they just march forward and feel for a hand to tie on.

As I said, first of all calling out directions might allow the un-blind to choose favorites, and second of all no one's paired up, you pick an equal number of girls and guys and line them across from each other. let's assume the guys are blindfolded and the girls call or wait for the guys to come to them. Though there needs to be something the extra people can get for participating if they don't end up with someone.

Thats why I thought of the whole people who come in couples probably want to stay as couples. Because if we just go with people choosing whoever, we wouldn't have a winner because almost everyone would probably tie to somebody. so maybe pairing them up before would be good. I'm still deciding on prizes and I'm not sure what I could do for all participants. I think it would be good if we did several rounds to get a feel for the game and to have multiple winners or something like that. Nikki said earlier to idea of separating people by female and male characters so you get guys and girls on one side, not just the same sex. we're not here to actually hook people up but if they meet someone good for them. :3 choosing your partner is the way to win. there will be prizes for those that get close to it and that at least tied themselves to someone.

So if a couple came then yes they'd be split into the lines and "might" end up with each other. Or they might end up with someone different. In the end they're still BF/GF or whatnot. Though all the single people can take it seriously or for fun if they want. If everyone wanted to, we could take turns for each side. Have the girls be blind and the guys be tied onto and so on.

I love Youji. He is my favorite from that series. I might buy a new wig for him though. The one I have would still work but it gets tangled very easily and is a little bit of a pain in the ass. I can't brush it without strands coming out but I can with the other wigs I have (from a different company)

I know my Axel wig was a pain to keep detangled. But that was back when I first bought it. It was down to my butt, and I let Steven wear it around Sakuracon. By the time he got back it was all tangled. It took me hours to get it detangled. Although, now it doesn't have that problem anymore, probably because it's a lot shorter now.
I'm gonna try my hardest to keep my Soubi wig untangled when I get it, but I only have two wig heads and three wigs. ~ ~ Soon to be six. x.x

this is the reason why I think it is a bad idea. I doubt a lot of the people there will want to keep the person they are tied to in mind. I keep trying to explain this but it seems like people aren't getting it. I am not going to participate just because I don't want some guy following me around the whole party thinking I am his soul mate.

It's not that hard. Bridgeport is right off of I-5, so basically you can go without directions and still not get lost.

Bridgeport is very easy to find. I don't think we will have to much of a problem.
As for food there is the pizza kitchen, a noodle place, a sushi place, village inn across the street (it's like Shari's), and a few others. I have eaten at most of them and they are all very good. The sushi place is a little expensive though >_>

We originally opted for the 7th for better attendance, since on V-day most people will be off doing their own thing with or without someone else. So the 7th I'm voting for.

Well for some people it's the 150th anniversary of Oregon on the 14th. While the ones that are lucky enough to be couples might already have plans. But yeah that can be wondered about who among those couples is on here and who isn't. So yeah, what about a split meet up then? One on the 7th and then one on the 14th. Whoever can make it to one day, whoo hoo! Whoever can make it to both days, double whoo hoo!

Yes it would be a lot more work, but at the benefit of everyone being able to make it to at least one event. Instead of wrestling back and forth between weeks. Otherwise no matter what day we put it on, at least half of everyone will be busy that day. And do we really have to have one person alone lead us in activities at either event? I mean on Pre-V-day we had the string game, speed dating, glomp circle and valentine card hand-outs in mind as possibilities. I'm just trying to suggest a way that no one gets disappointed. As far as I know, I can make it both days because other than the 150th B day of Oregon, I have nothing planned for the 14th. it should be an open bring-your-own game and food thing. No one person has to have the burden of bringing and running everything.

The fact is that people wont be able to make it to two events. A lot of people do not live near by and going to one is hard enough as it is. And even if they could go to multiple events with so many things planed I wont want to go to anymore. Like I said before if you want to organize one then do it. As for the "planning" that doesn't need to be made, you need to figure out a place, a time, and give others directions. Also if there is nothing going on during this meet-up then no one will want to come. And if you plan the same thing as the other then people will choose.
You are really trying to hard to make too many events.

err. i would suggest taking the chunk of hair that you need spiked, getting it into the right shape, and then holding it in place while you spray it with a TON of hairspray. and maybe put a bit of the spiking glue right on the tip just to keep it together.

I think you should just use your own hair. The color looks fine to me, and the length you shouldn't worry too much about. People will know who you are regardless. As long as you wear a punkish dress, have blonde hair in pigtails, and are hanging out with an L and a Light. XD

Yeah I guess it would help to think about the character's personality. Albel is very cocky but also loving.....deep down....DEEP DEEP DEEP down. He comes off as very masculine but doesn't show it in the clothes he wears. So the jeans and black tank seems to be the best idea. As for it being what we are talking about it really isn't we were talking about cosplays but more about cosplays that we were going to wear to the event not all the cosplays we have all together.

On that note, I can possibly make it to the the 14th unless I'm down in Salem for the 150th Oregon Anniversary. As for the 7th meetup and ball, I might be in North Bend that day, but if I'm not, I will only go to the ball not the meetup. Seeing as how many girls outnumber guys going (unless the numbers have changed), and even more the massive age gap, I know I'll feel out of place there.

because there is another one on the 7th and that is the date that most people wanted it on but we moved one to the 14th just in case some people didn't want to go to two things in one day (this and the dance) but most people still want to go on the 7th.

There were like four people from the forums, a lurker and his friend, and three out of the four people from the forums were all friends and another friend who normally come to Bridgeport. :P
Pretty much failed, but my group of friends has fun, I guess? I went to a movie later with another non-cosplaying friend so that was fun. xD

No one got pictures. It actually didn't feel like much of a meet-up at all. It was more like four young girls who are friends hanging out at their local city mall and three older guys who just happen to vaguely know us in cosplay. xD
