Welcome to year 2009. This last year, we had 35 Yojimbo on staff. We need alot more this coming year. I wont sugar coat the job. You will be up early and to bed late, sometimes you may not sleep or eat for long periods of time. But the rewards of seeing all those con goers having a great time is what we are all about. so please PM me the following information and I will add your information to the roster. Questions Welcome.

Thanks one and all. Your help in this is much appreciated.
PS: we ALWAYS need more help so don't be shy. Any questions.. post below.

Kylite is correct. The job is grueling, it can drain you of all physical and mental capabilities, but it's worth it to see the smile on people's faces when an even goes really well or we're able to help someone find that lost item they've been looking for. Since we were just shy of 4500 attendees, I'd like to see a minimum of 40 people on the squad this year. If you have any questions feel free to contact kylite or myself.
-
Should I sign up? Or do I have other things to be doing?
-
I am giving serious thought to this. I talked with a few yojimbo, mostly while I was a little sloshed. They seemed like they liked what they did, but that they missed out on a lot of things because they were spread too thin. Ill give it more thought as we get closer to the next con.
-
Do you get to keep the nifty red jacket? I know I wouldn't mind being a yojimbo, you guys were so helpful this year! ^^ I got both of my lost items back super fast, when I had given them up for lost.
Oh, I think I might be too young, though...
-
nope, the red nifty jackets are under the ownership of the convention.
You are always welcome to make your own tho :) It is called a Haori
as to the age. at the time I believe it is 16+. It MAY go back up to 18+ but we will have to see
-
this year was great for me, i made a lot of friends on the yojimbo staff and had a blast with all of them. cant wait to get started. hopefuly the roaming pack of people lead by the horse head will keep away though... that was just creepy >.>
also if i were to cosplay as Commander william T. Riker with the red top would i still have to wear the haori?

TanisNikana! We could be yojimbos together!! (This is Ryan BTW)
-
creepy creepy horse pack <.<
-
This year was my first on staff and I was a yojimbo. It was really fun, you got to run around with a radio and help people find stuff and feed the starving staff members and sometimes you got to get into events that would normally be full or cost money because you were helping run stuff. Like I've never bothered with the cosplay contest before because the line's always ridiculously long, but I had a shift manning the doors and seating people at the end of it and I got to see some of the skits and find out that it was actually pretty cool. :D Dooo it.
-

I can't be a yojimbo! I'm ineligible! (But I do have a more powerful position already: the Volunteer Manager. Wanna be my assistant?)

Isn't this superjaz's position?
-
so...Im still in, I hope everyone that i helped in '08 was thankful. btw: how can you be yojimbo #1? is it elected or staff mandated?
-
Yojimbo 1 is pretty much ops director appointed.
As for me I am not sure yet if I am in, I want to give it some thought (this year killed me.. o.o) before I say yes or no either way.

Vallie appointed me to it Monday night, so I think Jaz is moving elsewhere in the hierarchy.
-
nothing is set in stone yet guys. Remember all positions will be decided at the elections in octoboer.
The director of OPS will be the one setting these positions up
-
You know I'll be back again baring any special changes
-
a nice early turn out. :) I look forward to seeing each and every one of you over the year at the general meetings
-
Vallie appointed me to it Monday night, so I think Jaz is moving elsewhere in the hierarchy.
Jaz has indicated that she doesn't want to be volunteer coordinator again in 09 as she is getting married during this year and wants to do something with a little bit less responsibility. I asked Tanis if he's interested as I recognized he did a really good job of recruiting this year, and he said yes. Of course, he still has to go through the whole process of signing up and confirming the position with whomever wins ops director, so it's not official, but Tanis has interest and I will recommend him.
And because I'm already getting PM's on the issue, I know I can't officially appoint anyone to anything. Please calm down, there was a misunderstanding.
/end of off topic discussion that really has nothing to do with Yoji signup.
-
Fair enough. Not staff yet. But hopefully soon.
-
I should sign up for Yojimbo so I can have 6 staff positions! HURRAY!
If you sign up for Yojimbo we will be putting you on the schedule for hours during the con.
We would love to have you but not if it means your having to be pulled to your other positions.
-
I'll have to keep this noted.
I'll be 16 by the time of the con but things might get in the way and problems might occur.
I am interested though no matter how tough the job may be.
-
Yo! lol
I'm back for the next year too ^---^
Send you a PM.
Lol best I'm going to be 18 by then...*those a little dance*
PS: LOL I been wanting to ask never got the chance...can I iron the Red jackets lol they were so wrinkled xD
All do all of them If you guys let me. :D
So they look good ^--^

You should give it a lot of thought.
It is a lot of really hard work. But you are certainly welcome if they leave it at 16+. ^---^
It has it's fun things as well....lol but don't forget a lot of work as well.
For anyone that's going to be 16+, or under 18, think about it a lot.
Questions? Just ask anyone that was Yojimbo before would gladly help you with anything you might need answer.

But I do have a more powerful position already: the Volunteer Manager. Wanna be my assistant?)
I belive I still have volunteer manager position until the fall election, and while the past year's manager aka me, can recomend people for it, its ultimatly the directors decision
more powerful position already: the Volunteer Manager
What are you smoking that you think volunteer manager is a powerful position, as I have always said at times its a thankless thankless job (by the masses but the few who do thank you makes the job worthwile), full of stess LIKE EVERY STAFF POSITION AT TIMES!, some of my closest friends are yojimbo, Most respect to them
In no way is volunteer manager any more powerful then a Yojimbo!
Bottom line we are all con support, during con info desk (which is under volunteer manager position) works with the yojimbo at con as issues arise we need them at times and at others they need us. So many volunteers eventualy turn into yojimbo down the line as well
Isn't this superjaz's position?
Thank you ;D

well see, wait till I'm done with my chair before you try sitting in it
Jaz has indicated that she doesn't want to be volunteer coordinator again in 09 as she is getting married during this year and wants to do something with a little bit less responsibility
yup as most you know I am getting hitched to kendo boyfriend aka chris and I also have a job where i work saterdays, so making it to meetings and volunteer events would be very difficult as it has been the last month before con. I could not have made it with out Vallie as my second, she rocks so hard.
Jaz (back to the much needed yojimbo sign up I just had to put in my 3 cents)

I'm sorry. But Volunteer Manager does outrank yojimbo by one rank, and is equal to Yojimbo One.
I'm sorry.
-
no need to be sorry tanis :) jaz did a wonderful job this year, and so did you. i think together u 2 would be UNSTOPPABLE!

Everyone's a bit stressed right now, so I think the fastest and easiest way out of any of this is just to apologize.

The confusion has been cleared up and apologized for. I think that making any changed to this thread would jsut be confusing. Discussion like this helps out newbies learn how the con works.
So, let's consider this finished and get back on topic ;)

Haha, I couldn't stand it any more, so I ironed mine, and then Hawkeye said I had to leave it when I was going off shift for the day and I was all sad, but then it was still there the next day, either that or there was another ironed one>.>

Yeah...I remember that ironed one.....I got it the next day when I first reported in for my shift
:P
-
I really enjoyed helping people... and next year i'll stay at the hotel instead of staying at relatives.
this means gb can run with -0- hours and he won't have to leave to take his wife back to the house and end up getting stuck!
You were all awesome..
-gb
-
If everyone that was Yojimbo this year brings 1 or 2 friends with them to 09 then people will have more time off to do to panels/events and whatnot oh yeah and sleep! So please start hounding your friends/relatives/coworkers/strangers and try to get them in as yojimbos.
-
so i sent in my info and now i am woundering when do we all find out what happens next? this will be my first time going out for the yojimbo, i know we have to go to the meetings and the training but when will those take place? is there an email that goes out? can any one help the noob?

First we wait until elections are over so we know who will be running things next year. I am sure the new Ops Director will jump on planning things and appointing managers ... as soon as we have one ;)
Keep an eye on the elections section for more info. We will start having threads for each position at some point so you can ask questions of our lovely candidates.
-
and in the meantime I am still acting Yojimbo Manager. I have already begun a nice roster. 12-14 (depending) so far have signed up
-
ok good to know, thank you both. :)
-
I'm still contemplating.
Lots of work and I can go without sleep for a long time o-o
I've trained myself for a long time, good undah pressure to.
We'll see as time goes by! But 12-14 now isn't a bad number.
-
Count me in plz ^-^
-
I sent in my information already ^_^
-
I sent mine....but I am not sure where I am being 'placed' if that makes sense to any of you lol
-
everyone who has contacted me thus far has their info placed on a pending 2009 roster.
-
I think teep's working on getting half her rugby team on Yojimbo lol. I've been working on recruiting all the nerds I hang out with playing Magic between classes to do gaming. :D
-
Hmm... I want to be either Yojimbo or regualr staff this year... there is only a few problems.
First and foremost; my planned cosplay for that con is Yuna in her wedding dress. If you've seen that scene in FFX, you know what I mean. BIG.
Second, I am only sixteen year old, so can't be out after curfew.
Third, I want to enter Yuna in the Cosplay Contest; need to be there for that.
Fourth, I also really, really, really want to attend the Random Panel and Anime Huner's panel *if there is one*
The rest are just things I want to do, but can part with easily. Cosplay Chess (If Yuna proves too large, then I won't even enter. XD Garnet had a long train last year; Yuna's is twice that and wider, wings, etc. @.@) and AMV Contest (I always have an AMV submitted... this one if only if one of them makes it in.)

I think you would rather be Staff...not as much work...Yojimbo is a lot more things to do so you might not have time to do all you want.
-

you're kidding, right? A regular staff position is just as hard as being a yoji.

Ok...calm down geez...I just said something I thought because of what I seen. No need to get like that. My personal opinion and nothing more.
-
to clarify being a normal staff is the same as being a yojimbo only not.
A normal staffer is on duty all year busting their butts for the con.
The yojimbo are relatively inactive all year other then attending mini events or helping out when or if they can but during the con we basically don't sleep (well we do but not often). its kind of an endurance trial being a yojimbo. But as always there are perks. :)
Either way no position is any greater then any other.
Just a kind explanation, not a rant or yelling at anyone :)
-
Perks? I knew not of perks... what would these be? XD
-
Perks: you get to get into whatever event without waiting in lines
Perks: You can skip the registration line all together
Perks: Staff party after con
I am sure there is more but i am half awake right now
-
Perks: you're on a huge list with a bunch of REALLY COOL PEOPLE
Perks: custom badge images
Perks: cheaper hotel rooms
Perks: Much cheaper attendance
Perk v. /purk/ stand upright, protrude perky, pirks
-
~(-_-)~
Woo~
I can easily go through 3 days without sleep even if I'm working and I love helping out that's why I signed up to be Yojimbo ^_^
-
Hmm... I'll think on it a little more, then. Cheaper hotel room would be sweet... since I am poor. Very poor. XD
I'll probably go to the next meeting with Sugarlat or something and have my answer by then.

-
do we get payed?
is there any fees to be part of the staff?
me and my friend is looking to join the secerety we are thinking of doing this get out of the house ill be 20yr by this comming kumoricon and my freinds is the same
-
Security or "Yojimbo" as we are called, is not a paid position, in fact we pay the staff fee of $10
-
why would you want to get paid to do this
oh and jesse you know im always up to working security
-
You know I was wondering the same thing...why get pay to do this?
I think it's fun to do, even if we don't get pay. :D
-
i was just wondering if i had to pay to volinter since i dont have to pay the $10 ill do it this sems fun ^-^ am bassicly poor having no money sucks but doing this sems to fun to me ill volinteer for this is there a meeting i got to go to?
-
sadly yojimbo is staff only.
no $10, no entrance to the squad.
But that does not mean you cannot help out in other places :)
-
than its an ify ill problaly do it buts thats if i got money to spand by that time is there any meetings we gotta go to
-
Dark, the $10 is what we pay to register for the con itself, it's not on top of the actual con price. So if you are going to the con, it is cheaper to be on staff..but at the same time you don't really get to experience the con, either ;)
-

And you just *know* that I'll be there.
Night Shift Rocks.
Of course...if I get my panda suit finished in time....
I plan to sit at the Cosplay Door, wearing the Genma Panda Suit with a big blow-up hammer and a signpost.
-
I shall add you to the list good sir :) as well as the others that have signed up.
-

Itzel, we love people like you. *hugs* She's got a point though. We may not get to see some of the at-the scenes kinda stuff, but the behind-the-scenes stuff makes it worth it sometimes guys.
-
Ummm Hi...
My name is Paul (Pepito) L'amoureaux
I'm sure most of you know Robert Trotter, he is one of my TaeKwonDo students....
Anywho, I will be helping out on security this year, I thought I would introduce myself :)
-
pleasure to meet you. Please make sure to PM me with the info at the start of this thread so I can add your information to the roster. After that, we just need to get you to one of the general meetings to sign up and pay your staff registration.
-
Groovy, I have my staff app all filled out, and I'll be popping in to the Feb 21st meeting :)
-
Hey Paul..you the same one from CCG!? Small world if you are ;)
-
CC what now? Never heard of it ::)
Is that them Star Wars freaks?

tshirt signing (Medic Approved)
pizza (we didnt have enough)
drinks (soda for -21)
loud music (noise complaints b/c we were singing too loud)
the most abstracted and lewd music to sing to (everyone there remembers the first lines)
and the pictures that none of use will forget (hehehe you couldnt see my face in the pica pics)
yes
good times, good times
also kylite i sent you an updated resume for staff
-
I was kinda wondering how are we supposed to register for the con if we've signed up for Yojimbo?
-
Usually at a general meeting, you'll fill out a staff form and have your department head (Robert in the case of Ops) sign it, then pay your $10 and you're registered.
-
Oh XD I'll definetly go to the next meeting then!
When's Yojimbo training?
-
Nothing's been set up yet as far as I know. Though there's always plenty of training sessions either at meetings or just by themselves.
-
I haven't gotten all the training material set yet but I run a training at each general meeting if there are sufficient people to attend. if not one on one training is done. either way I will make sure each registered yojimbo receives training
-
sorry I missed the march meet. I just filled out the app. I will show up to the April meet though, just need to know when it's gonna be. this is gonna be fun :)
-
*Yawn* Pirate Boy waking up from gopher hibernation...
Should be there, keep you guys posted if I can't make it.
-
I can't wait for this con now, I am so happy. I get to be a yojimbo... (HOPEFULLY) :P

-
Hey I'd like to be part of Yojimbo, but, I have some questions.
So I think i'll ask them in person in July 11 at the meeting.
-
feel free to ask me in person, or here or even in a pm. the more the merrier.
-
Everyone who has expressed interest up until now has been added th the yojimbo roster. we currently have 12 yojimbo (including the manager and assistant) registered and paid, 38 pending (have not attended a meeting or have not filled out a form and paid), and 6 declines.
I hope to see alot of you pending people at the next few meetings
-

This is DeSoto, formally known as Default. Thought it was about time I picked a real name for myself. Anyways, I will be there serving in my usual manner. I would like any info on the next and final meeting before the con. Please let me know.
DeSoto
-
hey d
its been awhile
hope to see you at the next meeting
-
I'll do my best to be there. It's looking likely.
-
Is it way too late to do this?
-
you have one last chance to sign up, at the general meeting
