♥ Hey, so I just started reading Kaichou wa Maid-sama and an idea came to me. Maybe if enough people wanted to participate we could get a Maid Cafe set up. Dress up and serve tea and cakes and whatnot. Anybody like the idea? ^.^ It sure seemed like fun to me, so I thought I'd throw that in there. ♥

I sadly couldn't come to this because it occurred during the masquerade. What did you all do? I've recently been thinking of hosting a Maid Cafe kinda thing at KCon, and maybe you could bestow some maidly words of wisdom upon me if that's possible xD
Colleen if you're going to be in charge then maybe instead of Usui you should be the manager? Or you could let me (Misaki) handle everything :D
Btw, count me, Kristee, and Shay in as maids. If you're doing it then we'll have to ;)

Honestly I don't think we should serve food at all. If we did we'd have problems with hotel catering, and we'd be competing with Nekopan, and the Ouran Tea Party. I think that we should have a Maid Cafe minus food.
We could have tons of maid related activities though, like we could do maid pictures with the customers for example. Also, the customers wouldn't have to pay anything, so that'd be more incentive to come.
Also we definitely need to call our customers master, and all that great stuff, so it's more authentic. I'd like to train all of our maid hosts before we have the actual panel :)

But you're not allowed to buy anything in bulk within a hotel- they want to cater everything which costs a lot of money.
I just think it'd be less stressful and more fun if we just played maid games and stuff.

Let's just say this one thing. There ARE going to be some kind of food or drink whether I have to pay out of my pocket and cut down on cosplays or not. That's final on my part.

We're not sure on prices right now. It's not gonna be too high but not too low. We've got almost an entire year to decide.

Talking with various people involved with it, the Ouran Tea Party (which had food from Nekopan and various other sources) came at the expense of Kumoricon itself. Because the food cost so much it almost was unable to come back for '09. You know what my favorite thing about the Tea Party was? It wasn't the food or the tea, it was the hosts and their interactions with each other and the guests.
It'd be more cost efficient and less stressful to have a foodless maid cafe, but if you want to disregard all of that then all I can say is good luck.

personally, trying to serve drinks is the least to try for as a cafe I think
as for the characters, I don't think the characters from maid-sama are quite as appealing to a large auidence then ouran host club is.
as another way of doing it, maybe forgo the cafe and make a delivery similar to pocky club?

It was cost. It cost too much for all of the cupcakes, and it cost too much for the tea and the hot water that had to be catered from the hotel.
The reason I don't think we should have food is because NekoPan Maid Training Panel and the Ouran HHC Tea Party each already have food, so if we did it as well it'd just be more of the same. And if we had food we'd end up wasting most of our hour giving food to the guests instead of playing maidu games, and have a splendid maidu time.
Maid Cafe' doesn't mean it has to be food related. Maid Cafe's are known for the maids, not the food, so highlighting the maid aspect wouldn't neccesarily be a bad thing.
I think something simple like Pocky would be doable, and maybe we could serve Ramune too? :D
And yeah, delivery is bad O_O

You will not be able to provide your own food for a maid cafe. You have to use hotel catering for events at the hotel. If you use hotel catering, you will have to charge for the event... hotel catering is not cheap.

which reminds me of something else I wanted to say. I think (not trying to hurt anyones feelings especially yours) that I'd make a better temaki then mori. I could be overly dramatic like him and romantic too. and I'm his exact height. mori is only 2 inches taller but yeah.

And not all cosplay you buy online is crap, and there's some really good inexpensive maid outfits. Just because one store had bad clothes doesn't mean all of them do. Shipping isn't usually awful unless you buy from China. Plus, it'll cost the same either way.

yeah it's always a few months before. but you should get the panel/event in asap. not now but a bit before. so all tis planning is wasted because theres no room left. and if you send it in earlier you get a better chance with time.

I found about of pearls, lace and trimmings. and many other cool things that I'm thinking of putting on my host outfit. btw I need some opinions. so I could either go with a suit jacket, a tailed jacket or a vest for my outfit. which do you think would be better? the vest in kind pin striped just fyi.

My talents consist of copying any picture right down to the point and being very flexable and dissconeting my bones and folding myself. Thats it I cant really do anything XD

so basicaly anything besides food, drink, and things from their gift shop.

the big way hotels get money from cons (and why they put up with us) is ussualy cause we fill almost every hotel room, and the fact that if theres nothing else besides ramune and pocky that is driven up in cost from uwaji's stand, then they will buy their over priced watar and cakes.
thats why they pretty much ban all food at cons.

We did a little panel similar to this, and it went...differently, hehe!
The hotel won't let you sell things in the panel. You can take admission, and include that into it, like the Ouran people did....To serve things that are hot (we wanted to at our Maid Training Panel last year...) it costs....so much. SO much. We ended up not being able to afford it.....
Even cold water costs a lot......
However!! The people that run the panels are so fabulous.....I can't say enough good about them. I wish you the very best of luck, pets~! If there is anything we can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask. ^_^

They worked really really really hard for us to get to sell things in the Vendor hall, but it was explicitly stated that you may NOT sell things during panels..... We were the ones that they had cater the Ouran panel. Each panel gets a little bit of money already, if you get a hold of who is working with the panels this year and approach them professionally, with a list of what you'd like, an how much you'd predict it would cost (or in the case of water/tea/treats, how much they would expect the hotel to charge..) they can help you work out something to help pay for it. There is a budget request form that you fill out along with your panel request form. No guarantee you'll get the money you ask for, but they're sweet people, and if you are serious about this panel, I see no reason why they wouldn't help you out!
A lot of people use this sort of thing to pay for prizes given away in their panels. *shrug* It is worth a shot!
We catered our own panel. We had already been approved to cater panels through this hotel, so we were allowed to bring our own to the Midnight Snacks panel. :) And yes, that is why we were allowed, we were a business that sold things that the hotel did not sell, and the people that worked at the con were awesome and somehow managed to get us in. It was by a hairs' breadth, though, it seemed.
Worst case, we might try and work together. That would give you more time to prep with your maid personas, and you wouldn't have to rent a professional kitchen/deal with all of the tax la la la/food handlers cards/insurance that is required. @_@ And we are cheaper than the hotel (thus why we did the Ouran....That and we also really wanted to...Cause it's awesome, hehe). And it would be sweets from one group of maids sold by another, which is also pretty awesome, honestly. :3

hmm well I'm not sure I'll actually be able to do this. I have a lot of events to attend and costumes to wear. I don't know where I'll be able to find the time to change so quickly from one thing to another.

I thank you for that but it's more of a matter of reserving a panel and when it's gonna be and if I'm even gonna be able to host it. My schedule has gotten a bit more packed than I thought it would since November. >3<

yeah, they got the money to not ticket it in 07 some how but this year you had to pay ) :
In 07 the hotel charged a TON more than expected for the host club tea party. K-con learned that lesson the hard way. This is why there were tix for catered panels in 08.
I don't know who is in charge of panels this year though. (Was panels staff grunty in 08)
